Stephen Taylor Way Ahead of you brother!😉
it was very fun to watch you guys put together this kit & play it....loved it...
Stephen!!!! I'm still around - I rarely play but I still love it when I can... and the square kit is still a part of my life! Thanks for the mention! :D
Could you put some drum triggers on it and make it an electronic kit? That'd be hilarious to see someone play at a show.
AsIf 21 ooooohhhh...now there’s a killer idea
@@StephenTaylorDrums :0 this is one of the first times I'm recognised by a content creator!!!! (THANK YOU!)
Jimmy Rainsford did something like that a while back. Here his video:
ua-cam.com/video/P8uj_oB3Noc/v-deo.html
He put triggers on a drum throne and box.
@@3xguysxfightingx He just mic-ed them actually, and used the signals to trigger actual sampled drums, etc. in software (probably pro-tools?). What Steven and David are doing, I think is a lot more intensive, as they're actually using the acoustics of the boxes (and/or cans, in David's case). Getting them to sound like a real kit, is a challenge!😁
Already sounds like an electronic kit. Hip hop sound
I'm currently learning on a starter U-haul kit. Hoping to upgrade to an Amazon kit soon.
That One Chris lol love it
Hey dude if your looking for e a nice starter kit the tama super star classic maple drums for under a 1000 bucks and Yamaha has the stage custom there made of birchwood with hardware for under 1000 and if you have a bank card you can get on a payment plan from ams com or zzounds. Com good luck don't go crazy cause it's really easy to go overboard I think you could get either one of these kits for like 60 100 bucks a month for like 6,8,,12 months depending on how many months you want to pay look into it if I had to save for all my gear it wouldn't happen cause life dose
@@johnparrish1042 Thanks John. I really appreciate the information. I'll look into it. At the moment, I'm learning on the Alesis Nitro mesh kit because I'm pretty limited on space. It works for now- I'm able to practice the basics- timing , groove and transitions but I will defenitly be looking to upgrade in the future. Thanks again bro! 🤘
U-haul isn't bad for the buck man
I made a miniature version with Chinese takeout boxes
If you couldnt tell we were playing the wii theme at 0:45
You can tell its rdavidr themed, it has a hole in it
Kinda like his channel. Jk im just joking
I knew it
Knew it
Same i figured it was..
Oh I didn't realize lol.
Can you do an unboxing video of these drums? 😂
wait
WAT
*wat*
Hahahaha!!!
wat
I absolutely love this kit. I've got a friend who wants to play drums but is completely broke, so Im going to make her this kit for her birthday
Wouter Hofstee did their birthday pass already or is it almost here
Awwww what a sweetie. I’m gonna make my own. I’m a chick. I wanna learn how to play so bad and this will help.
For anyone building a kit made from buckets
I suggest using a duct tape then place some coins, place them inside and you are good to go
my snare bucket was just like 1 dollar and some spare change
More cardbell!
Gil Flores lol
Wow. I was reliving my childhood while watching this video. I used to play on a similar setup before I could afford a real drum set.
Sounds better than my kit
Lol! It really came out sounding not horrible. The bass drum was great I thought
Stephen Taylor I do have to admit that bass drum sounded pretty good
That's tuff...
Sounds better then mine also
Good call on using the old heads to protect the boxes. With it mic’d up, you could make the boxes sound like anything you want! Great kit overall from 2 of my favorite channels.
Thanks guys!
Ross Gillis Exactly! Just do like all of the big guys these days and replace everything after the fact
The cool thing about this kit is it's going to be really easy to transport - it will all fit inside each other! I wonder how you would tune it to suit the room 😀
Make a drum set with only cajons!!!!!
There's actually a Cajon drum kit from Schlagwerk. I suggest you should check those out😝
That kit made by Tamazon? Sounds better than my kit...😳
Me : mom can we get a drum set
My mom : we already have a drum set at home
Drum set at home
This is the exact way that how I've started playing drums 50 years ago..... The cymbals were ashtrays made of bronze...
I love seeing 2 grown ass men making a box set here and bucket kit on David's channel..... you guys are awesome and show us all that's it's ok to think outside the box.....no pun intended😆
#minimalistdrummer
I used to go and watch a local trad jazz band back home in Scotland; they were all guys who’d been playing since the 50s, and I’d usually sit in for a few tunes after the break. One day their drummer had car trouble and couldn’t get to the pub where they were playing, so we improvised a kit with a few stools, instrument cases, pint glasses, crisp packets and whatnot, and I played the whole gig on that. Not much volume, but it worked well. :-D
This has all the makings of a great reality competition show... judges are Stewart Copeland, Dave Grohl and Sheila E. Contestants are challenged to make kits using parts sourced from various environments, like an emergency room, a junk yard, or maybe a beer bottling plant. Contestants are judged on skill and creativity...
A piece of paper loosely taped to the "snare" will give you (a tiny sounding) high end.
I'm impressed! It sounds like a real kit with all the highs and mids rolled off!
Love that tonewood !
Lol! I was playing on chairs tables boxes bucket and car dash for many years i had just drum stick for 15 years before i finally decide to go for druming lessons in june of this year... I just love it and glad i did it! Thank you! As rhythm is in every thing around us sometimes you just have to hear it and play with it.
That kick is dope. I'd probably use a 5 gallon bucket as my tom. For hi-hats an old sauce pan. Use another bucket as a throne.
I've always been a big fan of well-rounded drum tones, but there's something to a sharp edged boxy tone too.
Wow, this is how I learned drums for the first few months! Only minus the fancy drum hardware and plus a tambourine (with improvised “snares” on the head) for a snare and some stacked metal bits for cymbals. No kick pedal so I sat on the floor and whacked my kick box drum with the side of my foot. It was a really big box so it actually sounded pretty good! The whole setup wasn’t half bad.
Those hi hats are unusually dark for the size.
Very useful and creative, inspiring everyone ~ thank you 😁🙏
When I was 15, at some point during the last century, I wanted to learn how to play drums. For 6 months I used old card board boxes, large plastic tubs and a cardboard suitcase. I did not have a foot pedal, so I "played" the suitcase in a heel down position. It did have some depth of sound. That was how I started. My mother, gave me the money to buy an ancient set of drums which were cheap even when they were new. Such was my beginning, this was well before there was such a thing as the internet or DVDs. Today, I have a brand name set that I saved 2 years to get - and it all started with empty cardboard boxes!
You guys sound great 👍
0:48 that is definitely the Wii mii background music 💀
You guys are amazing, especially what you did to that child’s drum set.
Ha, nice! I made a kit out of some sports balls, a jacket and a some containers today for a rehearsal with my band when we didn’t have access to a kit, it’s so much fun making kits out of junk. They usually sound pretty great too! 😂
good stuff stephen & david i like the box kit more than the junk kit you guys rules
This is great, guys! I love the sound of the kick drum.
Sounds pretty realistic. I remember my mom used to practice on pillows before she got a kit. I would sometimes try it as well. The pillows were kinda silly but they gave some nice bass sounds, and it wasn't half bad.
That sounded badass!! I think I might try that sometime, just for the hell of it.
Sounded pretty dang good. I really like the hi hats they sound awesome. Great video guys!
Love the cross over videos!! Cheers from Texas 🍻
only possible with 1000usd microphones and another 500usd in stand and pedals. still greatly done. Interesting the hi-hat is irreplaceable. I was thinkin as the first piece to buy to play silently in apartment. thank you.
Kick drum! Is That bubinga cardboard!!?
rosewood actually.
Nicholas Dentato David was just overly picky about the grain for this kit. It got to be annoying.
What about a maple / mahogany blend? And spray paint. That would be pretty. Lol.
That kick drum sounds great!!!
The kick and the snare sound perfect with the electronic sounding hihat
Excellent sound.
You guys always seem to amaze me!!!!!
The thing i envy you guys the most is no the drum skills you have, its the houses you have! damn! so much space!
Wow that's pretty dang cool. Really impressed with the sounds yall got out of them. The junk set video was neat as well. You fellas got too much time on your hands😂😂👍
Man I like the kit
Especially the snare and the bass drum
the hats sound good with this cardboard kit...of course you guys have this kit all mic'ed up but still the sound is pretty amazing...low volume cymbals would work great on this kit.....looks like fun....
After being mic'd it sounded good, especially the kick and Snare, I wouldn't be surprised if Meinl or LP releases a cardboard snare in the near future. a side note...Steve Gadd playing brushes on a cardboard box is one coolest things ever.
For once the hi-hat is louder than the snare!
when you do stuff like this, itd be cool to see you guys do crazy additive effects with reverb, delays, and compression on the drums.
Nicely done 👍
Hey man, I've been looking for drum setup idea to work with acoustic guitar and unplugged kind of sound.
This video is very helpful for me.
Followed, and look forward to more drum ideas from you
The HH was a nice low volume addition.
that sounds shockingly good, nice work guys
This is epic
Kick and snare sound like great electronic drums. Totally usable, you should put out a sample pack.
Man, that's sick! I did something similar when I just started learning drums and didn't have a kit yet. Some people call that stupid, I call it passion! Keep up the great work!
Marks VAIVARS Ain’t nothing wrong with it. Love that you’re that dedicated!
Just thought i would give you the heads up brother ... top left there is a perfectly good purplish drum kit in the corner ,, ( just in case you missed it ) ...
snare sounds awesome. I like that hi hat sound too
Fun stuff! It sounds just as good maybe better then a practice pad kit.
Whoa you made that zildjian hi hat with boxes? Impressive, by far the coolest part of this video
I am amazed by the kick
Giving the term “boxy” snare drum a whole new meaning ;)
Your cardboard snare almost sounds better than my snare. This is so cool. I think I'll probably add another floor tom to my kit by making a cardboard one.
Great video guys 😎
I love the bass drum sound
That’s pretty DOPE! 👏🏻👍🏻
Trying to decide if I like the sound of these better or the junkyard kit on David's channel.🤣 Actually with the cans, etc., I think there's a lot more possibilities for developing a full kit that would be sustainable and not fall apart right away. Nice work you guys!🤘😁🤘
Love the kick drum
i didn't knew kratos was into drumming! and drums made out of boxes! BOY
Fantastic!
You guys gave a great idea for a practice pad set
Sounds good, a bit like an old roland drum machine I owned in the 80's
Inspiring!
the kick drum sounds good!
Honestly looked so fun
Who is that bum you are with?😳😆🤷♂️
Just kidding David, I think you are one of the first people I have subscribed to and thanks for the rdavidr drum stickers. Now I have to subscribe to Steven since I just watched his drumeo church playing video. I’ve see. Steven before on David’s channel and now I can make that connection. Bless you guys.
Sounds really good actually ! You’re right, not excuse 💪
This is so much better tonally than the kit on Dave’s channel. I love his stuff, no hate. Just tonally this is weirdly not horrible😂
Pie tins for the cymbals would have been a nice touch.
Thanks for sharing... Could you say something else about pitch match? Is it like trying to have similar sound to the real ones, just that right? Or maybe there are other tips...
beating on circles all your life and then you have to beat on a bunch of squares. that must have been wacky. I really loved this video and the bucket one as well. these are all things ive tried to some degree but they never seemed to work very well. with your cheats, I think I could pull it together. (such as the old heads on the boxes, or the manure shovel as cymbal. thanks for the awesome video.
also, ever heard of doo rag? they got new boxes for every city they played. check em out. they're wacky but pretty amazing.
Soon we'll all be making unboxing our box kit videos I guess.
Why am I seeing a street corner band in my mind?? LMBO
Exactly what I was looking for. Now I just need to find the right boxes
Man that's some funky stuff
Thanks!
It has an 8bit feeling
I used Charlie Chip cans and boxes for them to sit on premier snare JC Penny crash cymbal and Tamborine for hats no bass drums. I was 11 in 1981when I did this
Love the kick drum. Who’d a thought a box would make a good drum. Good job guys.
Wally Ordona it really didn’t sound half bad lol
Cool vid... I did that as a kid to learn how to play the drums
You inspired me to get drums I have a Tama kit in my shed
That snare sounds like a Cajon snare
How does this sound better than my kit!? I have a realy cheap hammy down with old heads and i thought I had it bad. This guy got boxes. I guess this was mixed but man this just tells me i need to learn to tune my drums better
Real good sounding and faint as well for practicing at home
I made a tiny drum kit out of cardboard that's made completely out of cardboard. the cymbals are even branded with paiste or zildjian or something
Your snare sound a little boxy 🤣😂
The kick actually sounds great
Imho. I’d go looking for the plastic cans with say 12 to 14 inch and then dampen them with tape. Same for metal things. I know you will improve the kit. Also try a pillow type kit……great job guys…..
Innovative percussion at it's finest
When literal boxes sound better than your kit.
