Today, Levi and I are going to show you how to change the oil and oil filter on a 2013 F30 BMW 335i xDrive. Don't forget to pick up 7 quarts of oil and the correct oil filter kit before you start!

Man this was such a good video on so many levels! First off, my wife and I just traded in our beloved e92 335i for an f30 335i because we are having a baby next April and needed a four door so it was way cool seeing your little boy helping out :) plus I needed a diy for this so win win. Thanks bud!

I use 0w30
Thank you for a good guide on how to change the oil. One thing I found out unfortunately is that if you over tighten the drain plug you can either damage the plug itself or the oil drain pan. I would suggest for anyone doing this at home to be very careful as it is easier to do than you might think. If you're using a torque wrench it should be properly calibrated.
Can you do a video on F30 transmission fluid change, it would be very helpful for alot of us?
Bilal Ahmed I'll second that. Love your videos and have done the oil change and spark plugs with your help. Would find a transmission, front and rear differential, and transfer case dyi awesome.

While u have the sump plug out u shud remove the oil filter then as the dirty oil in the filter housing will go down into the sump and out putting the sump plug in before changing the filter will cause a bit of old oil to sit in the sump with the new oil
Hi guys I did my oil change and filter thanks for the video. I found I have an oil leak from the rocker cover and need a new gasket replacement. Do I need to replace the cover also.?

Are the RWD and AWD Oil Filter the same?
NON xDRIVE VEHICLES USE THE SAME FILTER. Sorry for the caps, but there have been a lot of questions and confusion.
If you are somewhere where temperatures get cold, use 0w, if you are in somewhere like southern califonia use 5w 👍🏽

Hey Bryan, does it matter if I torque it to 18.4lbft for the drain plug and filter cap? Planning on doing an oil change on my 435i and don't have a torque wrench

Sure, I can do that, just not yet. If you follow the video we have on the 328, it's a similar process for the 335, just more spark plugs and different locations

Try Pennzoil 5w40 instead. Ow40 from Mobil 1 gets thin like a bottle of coke.

Is it only necessary to jack up the front of the car? I’ve seen a few places recommending jacking the whole car up so it’s level.
I have the extended warranty and dealer does oil changes but I want them done every 5k so I just changed it myself. I’m assuming I shouldn’t reset it so the dealer will do the next change when I would want it done?

great video. One question. The differential drain bolt is that for the transmission fluid or is there a front differential.
Brian, what's happens if the cage that goes inside the oil filter is missing? For some reason when I get my oil changed this gets thrown out. It happened before on my e90 n51 and it caused limp mode. I think it has been missing since the last oil change on my n55.

Bryan, I have a 2013 328i I took it to the dealer for an oil change and they put 0w-20 in... the manual calls for 5W-30 or 0W-30 / 0W-40. Should I have it changed to 5W-30 or will it be fine with the 0W-20?
Where was the center jack point? I’m not sure where it is. Can you please tell me where I can find it. I also have a cover under mine, not sure if you have one.

Mobil 1 is not BMW spec anymore now. (2020 and up) what brand you use now.

What can you use to ensure you have the torque to 18.4 foot?
I'm surprised no one has answered you, but it's just a torque wrench. You can find them at pretty much any hardware/automotive store.

Hey, really like your channel awesome videos. I just bought a 435i gran coup xdrive. It’s the same engine like yours N55. Can I use the same oil filter/oil on my car. Also curious about your downpipe and exhaust. Really like the sound of it. Do you have a page for all the mods that you have done on your car so I can easily just pick those! .... also if you link the jack you used .... do you have a video to jack up your car and where you put the jackstands? I know so many questions!!! Sorry :|

Hi there! I did oil change to my Bmw f10 2013 with 57000 miles and i used Mobil 1 full sintetic 5w30 I just want to know if just the right one. Thanks
Yes 5W-30 is correct but stay away from Mobil 1. I’m not sure why Brian is putting a thinner weight in his car.. Possible do to his upgrades or the climate temperatures in his area as thinner would flow better in colder temperature areas.. Either way I’m scratching my head as well. Or maybe his engine is modified and tighter and he needs the thinner weight so not to put stress on the crank and pistons.. Only he knows... But I’m leaning towards his areas climate, as that initial cold start on the engine is where the engine is gonna is gonna experience a lot of wear.. I think he just takes good care of his baby... So far it appears he has no leaks from wear patterns formed from the 5w and changing to Ow, so he’s fine.

Mobil 1 isnt on BMW's list of recommended oils. i've heard, with Mobil 1, it is no longer recommended because it deteriorates the oil seals on the turbo(s).
That actually explains a lot, and validated my suspicions, thanks. Using Castrol or just straight BMW dealership blend from now on.
Well BMW's list of recommended oils changes as they change partnerships. Right now, Pennzoil struck a deal with BMW so Pennzoil is the recommended oil. I would simply switch between brands, record initial startups and compare performance and let your experience make the decision. I am changing the oil on my N55 335i today with Castrol oil, but I will switch to Mobil on the next oil change.

How important is it to torque it down? 18.4 isn’t that much and I don’t have a torque wrench.
I would recommend getting one, they are fairly inexpensive
Did the 7qts put it pass the max line or right at the 3/4 mark?
It's to the "full" mark, but it does appear to be 3/4
It said unsuccessful due to not having date and time set. This is because the car will give you a millage that it needs to be changed at or an annual date to change it

Definitely would not use 0W-40. 40 weight is too heavy, especially for the summer weather in the video
It’s an ok weight to use. Bmw used up to 10w 60. We use 5w 30 at our shop mostly though

You jacked the car at a point in the front. What is that point? Also, I too have a N55 engine, 2013 335i. In the manual it says that you should use either 5W30, 0W30 or 0W40 with BMW LL01 specs. It that essential? None of the Mobile 1 oils have that spec. The only Castrol full synthetic oil that has that spec is oW40 from Wal-Mart. At around $25 per gallon, that is a great price. Please advise. Thanks.
Hi Chris, that's the central jacking point. We have a video on how to jack an F30 up, so you can see where it is. To be honest, I don't know. I've heard that the Mobil 1 was approved and now it's not, but with how BMW is, it's hard to tell why they approve some and not others..
Thanks Brian. I finally used low rise ramps. I used Castrol Full Synthetic 0W40 which is also BMW LL01 certified. I know some people recommend 0W30 going into winter but I just used 0W40. I changed the oil after 8000 miles when the dealer did the last oil change. Thanks for your response! Excellent videos. Could you post one on the transmission fluid and when it should be done?

I do mine at 4000 miles. It gets too dirty at 5000-6000z
I do mine every 15000 as per the car's maintenance schedule. I use full synthetic 5w30 and has been running excellent since 2012. (F30 MPPSK, AC stage2)

I've been using original BMW 5W-30 twin power oil since I heard of this. I did end up using (finishing off) my two remaining 5 qt bottles of 0W-40 mobile 1.
Maybe if at 5k intervals I wouldn't really worry about it...
Eh, I feel like they go back and forth on it. The only reason I don't use the BMW Twin Power oil, is because of it's cost
accord705 it was fine for years until BMW started making its own oil. Any oil that comes standard in a Porsche GT3 is probably fine in our $50k BMWs.
