Oil Filter Housing + Oil Cooler Gasket Replacement BMW F30 335i N55

  • In this video I show how I replaced the Oil Filter Housing and Oil Cooler Gasket on my 2014 BMW 335i with the N55 engine.
    IMPORTANT NOTE
    I mentioned in the video that there were claims of possible engine failure after this replacement when the priming procedure is not performed before starting the car right after this replacement. I did not perform the priming procedure and have driven the car over 1,000 miles since I did this replacement and I have had no issues at all after doing this replacement!

    Thanks again for this video. I just finished the job and can’t thank you enough. It took me roughly 4 hours to do the job with some help. Well worth a diy as this would cost $600-1200 at the dealership. My engine had so much oil residue on my block. It seems that it should have been replaced 30k kms ago

    you do not need to cut the hose in order to put on new flange. Use a pipe plier and a little pressure will crack the plastic one into big pieces. Note, tilt the pipe downward, so pieces fall into the hose.

    Thank you for the short but very informative video. My car has been sitting in my driveway for two days now as I was able to change out the gaskets. But my plastic flange also broke like yours when I took it off to make it easier to unscrew that bottom bolt. Lol.

    I enjoyed the video and you have an excellent, calming voice and explained the steps very well, but why didn't you replace the intake manifold gasket? Once it is disturbed it will surely leak to some extent.

    • @InlineSixAuto
      @InlineSixAuto  2 роки тому +1

      Yeah I’ve heard that but honestly I don’t see how it would affect anything when you really look at how the gaskets are seated. Plus it’s been a year and the car has been running great with no issues relating to that.

    • @InlineSixAuto
      @InlineSixAuto  Рік тому +1

      It seems there's a small chance of engine failure after doing this replacement without priming but I never did priming and never had any issues since doing this. And from what I've seen many other haven't either after doing this. Only a small percentage of N55s have had issues from what I can tell.

    I had some engine problems right after doing an oil housing gasket change. I pulled fuse 165 and let it die out so I knew there wasn't any fuel. When I tried to prime the engine after installing the oil housing gasket the engine turned on and now I have some engine problems. I got codes 131501 Vanos Inlet Cold Start: Not Controllable, 0, 120408 Boost Pressure Control Cut-Off Pressure Rise Blocked. 0 , & P052B Cold Start "A" Camshaft Position Timing Over-Retarded Bank 1. My advice for this is to disconnect the battery after you drained the engine of fuel after removing fuse 165 and then finish this job within a few hours.

They told me that they do not have any idea why this happens and the customer has to pay for a new engine. He also mentioned this only happened to older generation (I guess the E model) - he told me for my F32 it should be fine.
