In this video, we show how to change the oil on a BMW F10 535i xDrive with the N55 engine. The DIY will be very similar on most BMW's with the N55 engine. The job is very easy and requires only a few tools. The N55 is found in many BMW's including the 135i, 335i, and 535i. The oil service kits and tools can be found on our website using the links posted above.
Thanks for watching our DIY and as always, subscribe for more helpful videos for your European cars!
Why pay someone for an oil change when it's this easy? Thanks for watching!

Hey, how about you guys stop sending me returned and defective parts(like broken hoses/or wrong color wheels I paid 800$ extra for).
ECS Tuning
Zach is hot. There, I said it.
ECS Tuning plz check out my recent comment
$100 for the oil filter housing you guys could have added a metal cage on it!
Why did this feel like my worlds were colliding when I saw Zach on screen on anything other than a Donut media video 😄 Great video as always!
Jobe is the man!
Zac when did you join donut media??!
Make sure all parts are from ECS Tuning and always wear ECS Tuning gloves during installation.
How do you reset the oil life on the idrive system?
is this the same dude from donut media money pit?
Thank you
BMW says to Prime the oil system during oil changes in oil filter housing changes, there are a couple handfuls of peoples n55 seizing up do to not priming the oil system
Did you really destroyed all those inappropriate gloves?
I use Hengst (German) oil filters for my 2011 F10 bmw. They're just better made than Mann Filters!

The real reason why people don't DIY oil changes
B/c its sucha bitch to actually drain it comfortably. You need buy all the diff. jacks /tools to properly and SAFELY jack it up.
Personally, I'd recommend against the ECS magnetic drain plug. Mine sheared off in the oil pan on my third oil change. Had an IPD magnetic drain plug in my Volvo for 17 years - never had a problem.
Good video, but one click only on the torque wrench.
I do not use gloves, those mechanic gloves suck if the they get soaked in fluids. Rather have latex gloves. All about touch and feel boys and girls. I have never someone torque a drain bolt to spec though, that was fancy. Most people do over torque and strip it out! Glad it was by the book so to speak
That E46 M3 in the Back :-)
Thank you for producing this! I'm about to go to the link and order your kit. Did you empty all 7 quarts into the engine or did you stop a little short on the seventh quart?
Hey your suppose to be at donut Right now.
More DIY videos please
More on the way!
I've got a 135 with the n55 but I don't have a lift. Will the pan drain if put the front of the car on ramps?
yea brotha gravity is lit af
Where can I get that socket ?
I’m not tripping right this is the same guy from Donut Media now
25 newton meters is 18.44 ft-lb torque right?
Thanks ecs tuning! I've got a 335i xdrive coupe m-sport package. I'm going to do my own maintenance.
Do you have it tuned?
What’s the size of the oil filter wrench?
After change oil fliter , I cannot remove the 86.4 mm wrench ( just like the one in your video)from fliter housing cap, how should I do now?
Danggg clean Zach
😳😳 donut man
Bruh ur gloves are way too thick.
I have a 2011 135i n55 DCT 7 speed. Do I use 0W-30 or 5W-30?
How hard is it to replace the oil filter gasket and oil cooler seal at the same time I do an oil change? PPI said oil gasket was leaking.
Took me almost 3 hours for my first time.. then it gets better or faster over time. Just make sure you buy the OEM gaskets and make sure there's no crazy oil drips on your serpentine belt and pulleys. I had to replace all those together w the oil filter housing gasket.
And you'll need E torx sockets and a thin wall socket for one of the annoying short bolts on the oil filter housin.
Whait.. Is this Zack from 🍩?
I feel sorry for the people who pay $200 at the dealership lol
So do we!
Actually dealership only charge $160 .
@@VijaySINGH-kb9ze $125 where I go
I would have poured some oil into the oil filter housing also.
which engine oil for bmw 316i f30 model 2014
Hey its Z.J.!! Now here's a tutorial that's easy on the eyes
Hi Is there a requirement to follow the BMW Oil System Priming Procedure as described here ua-cam.com/video/ATJ5ONHOngY/v-deo.html ? My local mechanic also mentioned that you can blow the N55 if you don't do this? What is your advice? Thanks
it's the guy from Donut media
Funny to see baby Zac
I think you guys should do a DIY k04 swap instructional video.
Wow it’s Zach jobe
Where can I find the plastic part you transferred into the aluminum oil filter housing.
The billet oil filter housing caps.....inwould be interested in finding out if you sell the billet aluminum caps for other vehicles......That could be a lucrative market if you can get the design, r/d, and any manufacturers copy right issues sorted out. The plastic housings I can already see are cheap and subject to either breaking or worse hair line crack that may not be so obvious until you get the oil leak and either burning off against the metal of the block or as a severe case total oil loss.
I will check their website, thanks!
I wish ECS Tuning had an app
Wtf Zach ? What’s up dude ! Cyphs? Got some questions
zack jobe before donut
I was curious after reading about priming oil after fill??
I just installed the ECS oil cap while changing the oil for my N55. Absolutely Love it! Great solid construction, very well anodized, and much easier to work with. Fit like a glove!
pointless
hello~... I am a 520d f10 2010 version (although I bought it on year 2011 new) owner driver from S. Korea.
I have a question in regards to self battery replacement for my bimmer. I know this much, even if I replace the battery... until I register it as a new batter, the system will still regard it as the old battery ( currently I've been having battery replacement warning light for almost 2 years) and I won't be getting rid of this alert sign on my dash board.
But either way, if I still want to go through with replacing my battery even with this issue, do I need to have my charger connected
on the front bonnet of the car while replacing the battery at the back trunk? I remember someone telling me if I try to exchange battery without this procedure will result in total power out from the car which then would mess up the whole system program and will end up causing me to pay huge amount at the certified BMW A/S center for restoration. Is that the case?
How often oil change is required with these N55 Engines? Every 10,000 km etc....please let me know
eric douglas just do it every 3000... it’s a bmw... plus oils only like $25
Every 6000 km im changing.
I want the music name
There seems to be a common denominator of the modern cartridge type oil filters which will take some getting used to especially after years of the spin on filters wheee the oil pan was drained first and filter was removed while oil was draining.
Note how he removed the filter first. The logic is that loosening the filter housing allows more of the old oil to drain out of the filter housing. This step has been noticed when watching Y/T videos for other vehicles.
Is this Zach from donut media?!
My cage from my old filter housing had a spring in the center. Does this need to be transferred to the new filter housing?
the oil filter housing cap is available for a 318d f30 2016 b47 engine?
I can't understand what tool you use when you say "Tighten it to 25..." What tool is it and 25 what?? Thanks
25 Newton meters is the amount of twisting force you apply. You measure that with a torque wrench. Cheap ones are sold at auto parts stores and they're usually not that bad, and Harbor Freight has some for < $15 that somehow are pretty good.
You set the setting on the torque wrench, and put the correct size socket on your torque wrench, then tighten the drain plug or filter cap until your torque wrench clicks.
(If you bought a click-type. Beam type are very old fashioned, very affordable - -and very reliable. You just stare at the needle-arm on those.)
Other than getting the offical factory tightness, the other thing a torque wrench does for you is teach you that you really don't need to put that much muscle into tightening most things.
oh shit it's the Donut Media guy
This guy seeeems familiarrrrrr
What is the oil spec for the F30 B48 engine ?
He's at donut media now right?
and that's about $300 !
Is it Zach from Donut Media? Absolutely love this guy. You should watch some series on donut media of him. This guys know a lot.
I think he just worked at ECS before donut
correct
Anyway also good content on your channel 👍🏼
More f10 n55 xdrive diy’s pls.
Is this the same dude from Donut medias the money pit?
Its Jach Zobe, Zach Jobe's evil twin
I just installed your oil filter cap on my F10 N55 just like the one in this video. The stock cage I swapped over clicks in and aligned with the outer tabs but doesn’t sit flush due to the 2 tabs sticking up in the middle. Is this normal? I don’t want dirty oil flowing past my filter.
If the plastic cage clipped into the tabs in the cap, you're good! It isn't supposed to seal against the housing; the gap allows for oil flow for the factory bypass valve.
Awesome thank you!
Any one with a full video of an oil change for an n55/f32 (435i)? Please!
Eugenio Suarez check kies motorsports video for f30 335i. Should be the same
I recently went to bmw and they said they don’t sell 5w-30 anymore they only had 0w-30
0w 40 better choice for 335i i heard most Time
A good, simple video. Thanks.
My N55 2011 335i oil drain plug is in a different spot... wtf?
The example car is a 535 I think. party on
Do you have to use that specific oil?
Trevor Capps im not sure if BMW approves it but at the shop i work at we use 5w30 pennzoil platinum. If anybody else knows if they approve of it feel free to comment after me
Mobil1 0w-40 for European cars or use the highly recommended German oil by enthusiasts called Liqui moly 5w-40. Fully synthetic of course.
Thank you Zack Jobe
CoooL
5w30 viscosity is not too low ? 0w40 or 5w40 would be better, because the N55 works very hot
Donut Media!!!!
Это сервис или аптека ?
Bmw oil is .. i dont wanna say the “worset” but never think of something else other than liqui moly.
A WORD OF WARNING. I JUST BOUGHT A BMW WATER PUMP AND THERMOSTAT FROM THESE PEOPLE AND BOTH ARE NO GOOD. THEIR ORDERING SYSTEM SHOWS THE PUMP FITS MY CAR, THE WRONG PART ARRIVED SO I CHECKED AGAIN ON THEIR WEBSITE UNDER "DOES IT FIT MY CAR" AND IT SAYS "NO DOES NOT FIT MY CAR" THE OTHER PART A THERMOSTAT IS A USED PART WITH ENGINE GRIME AND WATER SPOTS ON IT. IT WAS PREVIOUSLY INSTALLED IN ANOTHER VEHICLE.
Fcpeuro should have been your way to go
Awesome
Nice presentation
More diy vids please!
Why have you changed the housing
Would never ever put 5w30 oil in a turbo its a very thin oil to start with, once its been through a turbo it will turn to water...
Manoo42 hi , I just did oil change to my car f10 with 57000 miles and I used Mobil 1 5w30 , can you tell me if I used the right oil ,
Would you recommend 5w40, I live in the northeast and am tuned
The idea of a mutigrade oil is thin when it's cold thicker when hot. Thin oil through your turbo will thicken up immediately !
@@peternorman2563 !!! Multigrade oil means it holds its viscosity over a wider temp range, NO engine oils thicken with heat!!!
