Leaky Gut may have little or nothing at all to do with our crummy food supply. I developed it from medication I was forced to take over forty years ago. I was in so much pain and gradually the problems got worse and worse. I couldn't write my name, concentrate on a TV show, or even read a sentence. Every time I touched something the area would swell and become so painful, I had to sit on very soft furniture. I was mentally and physically crippled for thirteen years before I finally saw an immunologist who diagnosed the condition. And I was so grateful after a few days of being put of a diet of meat, white fish, and eggs the whole thing virtually cleared up. You see even the chemicals in vegetables had become toxic to my system. I couldn't eat fruit or spices or herbs, not even nuts or cheeses. I could eat butter and lard and still can. It's now been over forty years and I'm still on the carnivore diet. Occasionally I will make an attempt at green beans or peas with my meal and get away with it but that's all.
Good lord... the symptoms you described sound terrible... how awful for you to have suffered so much for so long... is there actually a name given to the condition that you had... and on the subject of the carnivore diet... you’re the only person I’ve ever heard of who’s been on it for so long and lived to tell the story ... so much of what I have read suggests that meat is fertiliser for cancer... is the meat that you eat organic ... grain fed... or grass fed... Dr Hyman, please, let the guest talk. For example, at 13:39 she starts to tell a story and he rudely interrupts to tell his own story 🙄🙄. I mean what’s the point of having someone on the show if you’re gonna be talking ALL the time. Rude 😏
He just likes to dominate the conversation. But, I think it is still ok. It is like a dialogue. I do not find that it is annoying, because he is adding to the conversation.

Please know being perfect is a tough mountin to climb, so people be nice and make suggestions in place of harshness. Thank you so incredibly much
Dr. Hyman, you come off as very passionate about this subject and helping people. I feel that you are genuine and excited to talk about this topic, however it would have been nice to hear more from your guest
Thank you Dr Hyman, you and your guest are so helpful.. I told 2 doctors I need help and they just ignore it.. they say is exercise.. I have exercised since I was 18 yrs old.. but I had surgery in 2018 and I feel bad ever since..lot of good knowledge here..💕🌴
Dr. Hyman, Thank you for this great information. It’s very helpful. Please allow your guest to complete their sentences. If you constantly interrupt your guest we may never know the direction that your guest would have taken the conversation. I know you are excited, which is good, however, keep that excitement for when it’s your turn to speak. Often it seems like you are waiting to speak rather than savoring and listening to what your guest has to offer. It’s not respectful to your guest and audience if you continue this pattern of interruption. Thanks for having this show. Just giving suggestions on how you can make your show more enjoyable. God bless you.
I have immense respect for Mark Hyman but this interview seems to be a self advertisement.....he seems to be talking more than her...he is asking the questions n constantly interrupting her answering the questions
20 years ago I had a Nissen treatment for my leaking gut. Was fine, but now I, at the age of 75, having cronic heartburn at night. Two doctors would not help me, told me to go back to the doctor who treated me! I drink Bicarb, because pills to expensive. Just had kidney stone, stent in and now out. Now on antibiotic treatment. I eat healthy, no gluten, starch, try to cut out sugar. Have no energy, yet do gym twice a week & linedancing, and bowls once a week. Hair falling out, nails ugly, "wee" 4 times at night, but try to drink 2 litres boiled, cooled water. Thank you for giveing me hope.
The man is an extremely intelligent, knowledgeable, sensitive person who is committed to his medical field. I think he is not completely comfortable with the interview process and this may lead him to interject when his guest are speaking as a means of, obtaining more information for his audience. I don’t see how the definition of jerk applies to him.
Absolutely! Interviewing is a learned skill...much harder to get a balance questioning/probing balance than you’d think! Also, if you’re very passionate about a topic it’s hard to put the brakes on and listen...even when you respect the person you’re in dialogue with...
I agree. His constant joking and fast talking betrays his discomfort. Utmost respect for both docs from me. I'm grateful for lots of important information.
You guys are all making excuses for him. Its not like he’s a panel guest, the man started a podcast & YT show! Of the vast litany of topics he’s mastered, I’m certain he can master interviewing & LISTENING should he so choose. I actually think his incredible giggling & interruption are more signs of complete lack of self awareness & emotional immaturity. I actually felt like she was dealing with a child throughout the interview. This man is obv brilliant; Im here listening. But his repeated obtuse behavior as a host is truly distracting.
Despite what most doctors say, especially oncologists, what you eat matters a lot and can have real healing qualities, if healthy and natural. He briefly mentioned mold exposure exacerbating his previous issues. This can be serious indeed and also a contributor to serious immune issues. Get your home checked out. About 20-25% of people have higher sensitivity too.
I think this is what’s happening to me. They’re trying to say it’s AS ankylosing spondylitis but I was active and exercising regularly when my pain and inflammation and digestive issues suddenly began 7-8 months after we moved out of an apartment we found had lots of mold when moving

Hello. Thank you both dr. for a great information. There has been a lot of "work terms" which only you know the meaning, but thank you for explaining some of them for people who are not in medical field. I didn't know what to expect at first, but something was telling me to listen to this today. The story about a 50 years old lady with inflammation sounds like me. I have join pain in my right arm fingers and stiffness in the morning. Always freezing my hands and feet. Like 4 years ago I became lactose intolerant without knowing why, got some herb allergies as well even I use to drink herb tees all my life. What is happening with my body, is it age related (I am 50 next year). My doctor said that I got streptococ bacteria inside my mouth so I need to do a surgery to remove that from my mouth, other doctor said that I don't have anything like that and I don't need any surgeries. What is happening, can someone explain it to me??? Thank you for any answer!
Sounds goofy surgery for a strep u wouldnt let a knife near me try an oregano her al tea and eat a clove of garlic in your food daily.Research is what you need to do with what I just said.
This is the best video I have seen on this subject and I have watched so many of them plus I have experienced all of this and need a plan that works, I wish I knew a Dr I could see that understood this stuff like these Dr's do...
I have noticed the interruption and it is bothersome, however I do realize he is doing it to give his audience more understanding on what the person is saying, he is explaining what they are saying further so that his audience can fully understand. But yes it is bothersome but he’s doing it with good intent for us
Zinc is an important mineral for leaky gut. I once took too much copper over a period of time and it lowered my zinc levels and I had LG. Took me a while to figure it out.
Thank you doctors for the valuable information. Both of you are awesome! But what should be done with leaky gut? Please list it down. What causes leaky gut besides prolonged use of antibiotic? I managed to avoid antibiotic as far as possible & sometimes, I reduced it on my own in case of sickness like UTS & i focus of flushing it out with drinking plenty of water. Yet, I may be having leaky gut - my metabolism has not been strong.
@@asndeep6959 i was fasting for 20 to 22 hours, for about 1,5 months and got worse. Maybe because of 1or 2 , rarely 3 expresso coffee during the day(no sugar or sweetener)
Okay those of who are saying that Dr Hyman is interrupting the conversation please bear in mind it’s a conversation and not a interview. Also he himself is a highly established doctor and he is adding his knowledge and experience into the conversation. Both of them are speaking gold so kindly don’t call it a interruption.Interruption happens when one person is talking off the topic due to lack of knowledge.
It’s a shame there is only a couple of functional medicine practitioners in the area and they drain your bank acct. before they offer a real solution. I wish there were more Dr. Hyman in my area
Funny you should say that because the consultation with Mark hymen is at least a couple of thousand dollars that’s if you can actually get into see him because he’s not taking new patients... his primary motivation these days is to make money off UA-cam... because he makes more money... and he don’t have to deal with icky people in his medical practice...
The problem with advice like this is”eat lots of veggies “ is that often leaky gut is accompanied by by histamine intolerance or sibo/imo) and in these situations fiber will cause many more problems as well as probiotics
I really wish he would let his guests speak. I like the guy and I think he is a wealth of knowledge, but, he interrupts everyone and literally takes over the interviews every single time. At this point, he just sounds like a broken record.
I am following the leaky gut protocol...and already seeing some helpful results. I have been recently diagnosed with Collagenous Colitis. I believe that this is one of many autoimmune issues I have been diagnosed with over the years and it's time to get to the root of it. Is there any chance that the healing I will get through treating my leaky gut with diet will also cure my colitis or will it always be present and diet will always need to be managed carefully. Thanks so much for this wonderful video :)
I often read comments from people who are suffering ... who ask for advice and never get answers... it’s so upsetting that these doctors can’t take a few minutes to contribute to somebody’s well-being... I get that they’re doing a good thing by sharing information and knowledge thru UA-cam ... but essentially, the fact that they’re not answering questions and trying to help the occasional person pro bono ... clearly shows that these videos aren’t made with any kind of humanitarian intent... but merely to make money from people suffering (which sums up the entire medical industry to a “T”) ... these days you can’t even get in to see Dr Hyman... if you cld... his consultations often equate to thousands of dollars. Anyway... I hope you’re doing better... and have found a good doctor who’s been able to help you... :)

I wish I knew about leaky gut earlier before my son got type 1 diabetes. There were signs throughout his life - food allergies, IBS, wierd autoimmune responses and recently type 1. I heard about GAPS but didn't pay much attention until now. Hopefully, once we start this diet, we will get his blood sugars stable with insulin as well of course.
Good luck on GAPS! I tried it twice and could only stay on it for 4 months both times! I did the diet by the books and I just couldn’t get enough food. I have food allergies/ sensitivities and asthma due to my leaky gut. On GAPS I got down to 131 Lbs and I’m 5’9. I am now underweight where I really didn’t need to lose any weight at all. I am not digesting my food properly so I’m malnourished and can’t absorb vitamins and minerals. I also decided to stop because I don’t think I’m tolerating the broth well either. 😣 Now I’m definitely going to have to go the 5 R route through my naturopath. Hope I get somewhere soon because this is absolutely miserable! 😭
Hi Dr. Hyman, great info!! I had just one question. you mentioned that Acid blockers can stop acid production and in turn help yeast grow. Is that correct? Because most of the information I find points to yeast grows well in an acidic environment. And when I tried to implement this practically, IT WORKED. I mean I stopped using chilli Peppers and Tamarind(Citrussy) and tomatoes etc which are acidic, and it reduced my bloating etc. Which I belived to be was due to candida Overgrowth. Care to clarify? Thanks
Huge disappointment :-( what happened to the first male patient Dr Boham started telling us about? Dr Hyman interrupted her story multiple times and I don't think he gave her chance to finish the story without telling his own tales. We love you Dr Hyman, but on this occasion there were far too many interruptions.
I was hoping the same. Sure would’ve been nice to find out what happened in the end with that gentleman and his healing journey and how long it took him to heal! 😒

Or at least keep the interruptions extremely brief. Otherwise good show
I had a conditioner that caused me to be paralyzed and screaming because low and behold it had (drum roll).... Wheat Protein. Basically Wheat. So, my husband told me to wash my hair with a deep natural hair cleanser. So, I literally crawled to the shower, washed my hair TWICE! I got out and my arm worked again, and no more pain! I am also finding out that wheat is even in supplements. I went in my house and went on a hunt! I went through EVERYTHING from my art stuff, supplements, shampoo's, condish'es, and you name it, I looked. I was literally shocked where the wheat and dairy was hiding. I was so mad when I was so, so, so sick. I found ALL the culprits, and the elimination protocol works. I research companies before buying now, and becoming more patient to do so and not making rash decisions based on emotional decisions without patience. I even looked into the company that makes our cat's food. I do juicing now, and it got rid of my arthritis, (i'm very young btw) and, the list goes on.
It's a great show but please when you ask for her or any of your guest to tell their story, please let her or your guest finish and kindly stop interrupting . Otherwise then the constant interrupting a really informative show.
Great video... it's given me a ton of things to think about. I've had psoriasis since I was 3 years old (I'm now 45) and PsA since my early 20s. I can't believe in all these years not a single doctor ever suggested leaky gut, or any of these tests you're discussing. Just endless pushing of steroids, biologic immunosupressants and UV therapy (which is done in combination with chemicals to remove your skin's natural UV protection). I live in Italy, (in Umbria, so roughly between Rome and Florence) and if anyone knows of any good functional doctors here I would be super grateful of a recommendation!

Im in Toronto Canada if you have a place to refer please. You are obviously an icredibly passionate Doctor . Please know being perfect is a tough mountin to climb, so people be nice and make suggestions in place of harshness. Thank you so incredibly much
We’re you able to find a doctor in Toronto?
Thank you Dr. Hyman for bringing Dr. Boham on, who is extremely knowledgeable and professional.
I have exercised since I was 18 yrs old.. but I had surgery in 2018 and I feel bad ever since..lot of good knowledge here..💕🌴
Thank you Dr Hyman for educating me on this gut issue and thanks to you
Well informed guest, Dr. Bowman
Dr. Hyman,
Thank you for this great information.
What a great definition of the word SYNDROME. Thank you.
You know you've got leaky gut when you can't even eat vegetables.
No kidding!!!! 😒😣
That’s me right now too ☹️wishing us both healing
Thank you for this video and for having such a balanced expert guest. This topic is important to bring into the mainstream.
We need Drs like these good doctors in Australia.
I agree, I listened to a conversation between two highly intelligent and experienced doctors, both offering valuable information.
I completely agree, however she was so eloquent in her response to his interruptions
@@tjgrafiks i’m sorry to hear about the issues you faced with the mould ... I sure hope you’re no longer exposed... ... I’m just wondering if you’re on Remicade for your Ankylosing spondylitis...
@@virtuallyme2518 No drugs. Just find what's causing the breakdown in my spine and repairing it naturally through diet . I'm running and jumping again and eating most of the things I suddenly began reacting to almost 2 years ago. I didn't take the Cvd shots for fear they would further ruin my digestive tract and cause even more issues with my immune function. My wife took pfizer and his having all kinds of respiratory issues and sinus and digestive issues she NEVER had before and still got cvd 3x times after getting it lol. I eventually caught it from her but I had symptoms for 2 days she was sick for 2 wks and like I said continues to have issues EVERY DAY! she needs to improve her diet but won't listen to me. I also started upping my Vit D and C since end of 2019 so that was perfect timing. I also take NAC once I learned about it so that absolutely has helped!
omg great info! thanks!! please please do a video for people that cant take fermented foods for the histamine , and have trouble with probiotics... how we can star to restore and repopulate our microbion???? please is so dificult!!!

Find probiotics that are low in histamine. There is a list of them which can be found with a google search.
Functional medicine is unbelievable amazing 🙏🏾 ...all about balance.
So true! One common mistake that people make when attempting to fix gut health is not thinking about the root cause of their symptoms! But when they do, the results can be incredible!
Great video, and very helpful information. What part do lectins have, if any, in causing leaky gut?
'Hy man' stop interrupting. 'Mark' this for the future.
You didnt talk about how to heal leaky gut.
Questions are great however let the answers be complete and finished.
Great content is somo stuff money can’t buy wisdom!!
This was very powerful!!
I am a nutritionist and do a lot of Food sensitivity testing. I felt this was helpful as an overview. Thank you Dr. H and Dr. B
[Did she say irregardless? ;)]
😂
Best podcast ever!!! Thank you!!!
Where is her channel? If I know I would go right to it.
Always outstanding content doc💖 Dr Bohem so knowledgeable!
Too bad for all the interruptions 😢
Please do not interrupt your guests, will you? We know you have waste knowledge on health but it does not make sense when you invite someone and answer your own questions, or even more, you repeat the same answers all over again and again.... you are a good man, just let others speak
But yes it is bothersome but he’s doing it with good intent for us
I could listen to you two all day!!!
I guess I could too. On my last week of my two vacation I sipped some beer in the mountains listening to this UA-cam video..lol
Zinc is an important mineral for leaky gut. I once took too much copper over a period of time and it lowered my zinc levels and I had LG. Took me a while to figure it out.
Really
Where do u get good sink from plz and thank you
Why are you od on copper
Very interesting. The last patient you referred to getting rid of the bacteria so what herbs did you use?
Thank you doctors for the valuable information. Both of you are awesome! But what should be done with leaky gut? Please list it down. What causes leaky gut besides prolonged use of antibiotic? I managed to avoid antibiotic as far as possible & sometimes, I reduced it on my own in case of sickness like UTS & i focus of flushing it out with drinking plenty of water. Yet, I may be having leaky gut - my metabolism has not been strong.
Try a 3 day fast, look it up! Great benefits! 🙏🙏🙏🙏
@@asndeep6959 i was fasting for 20 to 22 hours, for about 1,5 months and got worse. Maybe because of 1or 2 , rarely 3 expresso coffee during the day(no sugar or sweetener)
@@user-sm8wo3dj5z In my opinion, not more than one and if you drink it in the morning, try at least 90 minutes after you wake up.
Please stop interrupting your interviewees!
it's a pity that the host keeps interrupting the guest...
This guy won't let her talk. Wow. Quite annoying. Poor woman, she has th patience of a saint.
How do you know if dr Hyman wouldn’t drain your bank account
Wow, thank you Dr. Hyman, I'v learned a lot from this segment.
This guy interrupts alot how she handles it is fantastic
It is too bad that this great lady did not have more time to share her advice. It seems like he did most of the taking..
I really enjoyed this interview. People seem to complaining that he's cutting her off but they were both going back and forth.
The problem with advice like this is”eat lots of veggies “ is that often leaky gut is accompanied by by histamine intolerance or sibo/imo) and in these situations fiber will cause many more problems as well as probiotics
Somewhere in the bible says LET FOOD BE YOUR MEDICINE AND MEDICINE BE YOUR FOOD
Amen!!! God gives us the plants of the earth for healing!!! Food, spices, herbs, essential oils!!!
I really wish he would let his guests speak. I like the guy and I think he is a wealth of knowledge, but, he interrupts everyone and literally takes over the interviews every single time. At this point, he just sounds like a broken record.
Two minutes into the interview Dr Hyman takes over the conversation. It was a shame as she was so interesting.
@@virtuallyme2518 Thank you for taking a moment to respond to my post. I have done my own work, research and trial and error with diet to help control my symptoms. What would be the best gut diet? Even if you don't have any major problems.
The gaps diet
High honored salutation to Dr. Mark i'm too in the road of recovery through your book my inflammation is getting better just corrected my food and few other habits....
So much interruption from Dr Hyman. Can she finish her story?
Let your guest speak
He just won't let her talk waste of time
I had to stop 16 minutes in. I want to hear her speak but he keeps interrupting. :(
I wish I knew about leaky gut earlier before my son got type 1 diabetes.
Now I’m definitely going to have to go the 5 R route through my naturopath. Hope I get somewhere soon because this is absolutely miserable! 😭
Hi Dr. Hyman,
great info!!
Thanks
All I can say this is a AMAZING STORY and interview .
Everyone should listen to it.
THANK YOU.
Nice one, keep it up💪🏻
Huge disappointment :-( what happened to the first male patient Dr Boham started telling us about? Dr Hyman interrupted her story multiple times and I don't think he gave her chance to finish the story without telling his own tales. We love you Dr Hyman, but on this occasion there were far too many interruptions.
I was hoping the same. Sure would’ve been nice to find out what happened in the end with that gentleman and his healing journey and how long it took him to heal! 😒
thank you for this video it helps me a lot.
I looked in the comments specifically to see if anyone else noticed how much
he interrupted her. He had good information, but I was Becoming so aggravated I almost stop listening. But she did so well in keeping her Focus and staying on point, I decided to keep listening. I'm glad I did. Good information. But please, let her finish her point. Or at least keep the interruptions extremely brief. Otherwise good show
Why invite her if she doesnt get to talk ?
Agreed that he needs to talk WAY less. She was great
I had a conditioner that caused me to be paralyzed and screaming because low and behold it had (drum roll)....
Interesting correlation!
My Endocrinologist just told me I need to go see a functional medicine doctor. Please tell me you have a recommendation for one (or more) in NYC. 🙏
Please stop interrupting the guest.
Please, make video about psoriasis
Try Colostrum, this working for me. A gradual process over 3 to 4 months. It seals the leaky gut.
Thanks for this interview!
That's all the do
Soak white rice in mud clay pot along with water overnight. In the morning after brushing eat the rice and drink this fermented water on empty stomach. This is your probiotic.
