I'm so thankful for personalized functional medicine... it saved my life. I was trained as a conventional immunotoxicologist specializing in autoimmune disease, and then I came down with my own set of autoimmune diseases. After suffering for decades, I'm now a walking, talking testament to the science of functional medicine. At 57, I'm healthier than I think I've ever been. Remarkable what we can achieve if we just give our bodies what they need and get out of their way. Thank you for all you do, Dr. Hyman and Dr. Boham... you're my mentors from afar and I hope to meet you at the next IFM conference.
@@boromirofmiddleearth557 It is, I’m 23 and was recently diagnosed with pre-diabetes, fatty liver disease, high cholesterol and an autoimmune joint condition. I’m willing to work to pay for the functional practitioner and fortunately I will have the means to do so (no debt and no kids, but I do have bills). They are quite expensive
Thanks D Hyman for your continued help to the general public. I suffered from food allergies, eczema, candida overgrown and IBS body inflammation for for 15 years . I was able to cure all these issues though a lifestyle changes and proper nutrition. I realized that I struggle so that I can help other who are suffering. Take care of your body and it will take care of you.
Dr. Elizabeth Boham and Dr. Mark Hyman thank you for sharing your knowledge of vitamins and nutrition. I really enjoyed how you both put this information together. JP
I am 67 years old. Up until 2010, all my life, I suffered from bad colds every winter. Typically three per season. These colds always ended up in a Chest infection. The cold would get better after 3-4 days, but the chest infection and congestion would go on for another 3 weeks. I used to dread winter coming (in the UK) and the misery of these colds. In 2010, I heard a radio program (BBC Today) about Zinc. Since I was now taking medication for T2 diabetes and IBD, I thought "what the hell just another pill per day" (20 mg Zinc citrate). The result has been as follows. In the past ten years I would normally have had between 20 and 30 colds with chest infection; since taking zinc every day I have had just six colds (less than 1 per year), so a reduction of around 76% in colds. What is more, if I now get a cold, there is NO chest infection. Zinc is cheap. Thirty tablets costs about one pound. So for me, taking a zinc supplement has been a huge success. I have told lots of people about it, but most are cynical. Recently, I also now take vitamin D3 each day too.
Thank you so much! Boy did you hit it today..I am 68 and eat a very healthy, dense diet along with supplements..I have lived this lifestyle my whole adult life and so great to keep on this learning path! Can’t thank you enough!

But we are asking you to save it even better by letting your guest speak more without interrupting them. We know that you already know most of the things they have to say but I think you should let your guest’s thoughts take form. Cause they never do. You always stop them halfway and give them yours.
My husband and I both take specific supplements. We work with a Functional Medicine Physciain and the key to what we do is TESTING!!! We ONLY take the supplement that out blood labs show that is needed and ONLY Professional supplements like Metagenics etc. We ALSO focus on organic and GMP free foods as well. But as we age we often no longer absorb the nutrients we take every day. The take away? Get tested...and work with a highly trained individual.
That's great information. Testing is great, but affordability is an issue for some. I'm all for getting help from functional doctors, but the costs to see doctors and get tests is high for many, especially if many are already paying expensive health insurance premiums. I hope Dr. Hyman can do a show one day on how to afford a functional doctor and tests.
Ketones diet is the best we are in our mid eighties we started our 2 year ago we are doing great walking playing golf.as old we are we had going pee a lot we started talking nano colloidal silver daily and our bladder improves 100 percent

This would not be available on our NHS and so many folks "me included" can't afford private health care...... Difficult to even get a Vitamine D level test here in the UK....
People are creatures of habit, and I noticed that the majority of people that have some type of sickness all have one thing in common, they eat for pleasure not for health because they believe that if it tastes good and fits in your mouth then it must be good for you. Our society also plays a role in our psychology to influence us on what we are to consume whether it's coming from peer pleasure in school or in the workplace. The food manufacturing industry are experts in convincing you to buy their edible products marketing them as healthy for you when in reality they care more about profit than your health, so don't be surprised if you find out that they also invest in pharmaceutical or life insurance stocks because it's a profitable win-win proposition for them. So the bottom line is to know what you want in life? What makes you happy? It's sad to watch someone work so hard to reach their financial goals only to lose it to poor health.
Some insurance does pay for vitamins each company is different some require a prescription for the vitamin, some just want you to buy the vitamin then submit the receipt for reimbursement, and my Medicare advantage plan united healthcare has a catalog I can choose from that has vitamins, first aid supplies, testing equipment and more. They credit my account $50 every 90 days that I can use to buy what I want shipping is always free! Now the company I was with before had a similar plan but I could choose items from Walmart only certain items but it was actually a better deal because Walmart had much better prices. Be sure to check your insurance plan or ask if they have a benefit for first aid, over the counter meds and such as many now do and more are adding it because they find those who take care of themselves a really lower health care cost in the long run. Unfortunately most folks never even realize that Thier plan Includes the benefit so they go years without taking advantage of it
Mark should have a podcast where he invites himself....and asks himself questions...and starts answering them.....and then proceeds to interrupt himself 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
You can start with a good multivitamin first for a few months. Then depending on your health, beauty, energy & longevity requirements, add the additional supplements. Every body is different. And you get better results when you are doing IF & LCHF.
I wish it was that simple. Dosages vary from person to person and not every person needs to supplement with the same vitamins, minerals, amino and essential fatty acids.
This is great info but trying to a find a Dr who has the knowledge they have is close to impossible. Most of the knowledgeable Drs I find online are not taking new patients.
I live in South Africa, Johannesburg... We Cannot get all the different Supplements! Are these Brands Ok??? Metagenics Solgar Solal Now foods! Thank you Jenny
I would suggest you look up information on brands which are recommended in Physicians' Desk Reference (PDR) or Monthly Index of Medical Specialities (MIMS). I use Usana because its recommended on both reference books.
I took Biotin for over a decade and I didn’t even need it. Put money back into my pockets. Phew! I have my adequate servings of veggies and fruits, don’t need a B-12 supplement. My labs come in with flying colors year after year so I am going to decrease some vitamins 🤷🏻♀️

@@parthasuresh1225 Believe or not I recently find out the root of my problems high cortisol (I never heard anything about this before) and started looking for supplements that help me to reduce the intensity and lowering down I just started taking a supplement like 3 weeks ago and waiting to see if they really work and this thing with the adrenals is also causing the dehydration. The information is out there but nobody thought of that, my drs don’t believe in that because the blood test said I am ok but I don’t feel ok and that’s the reason it took me to be my own dr reading and listening and I am learning how to get better

Magnesium vs Tumeric ?
Hey doctors, what about magnesium threonate?
Thank You Dr.Hyman for explaining ,that we have 3 variety of magnesium and they play different role in our body. Thanks again.
It is a problem not to be able to afford functional medicine.
This would not be available on our NHS and so many folks "me included" can't afford private health care...... Difficult to even get a Vitamine D level test here in the UK....
Definitely

We also use Magnesium in pain management and in anesthesia. It's a true wonder drug!
What brands of these supplements should i look into? Great convo it’s improving the lives of many people no doubt!
Wondering if you found good supplements you were looking for
Now if you could make this affordable and insurance pay for this type of medicine!?
Insurance will not pay for this because they are already in the pockets of the traditional medical industry
Unfortunately most folks never even realize that Thier plan Includes the benefit so they go years without taking advantage of it
No $$ in a cure
Thanks for so much information
Mark should have a podcast where he invites himself....and asks himself questions...and starts answering them.....and then proceeds to interrupt himself 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Thanks for the information
No one is going to say it’s hooey if they have enough courage to try supplements themselve. Food is not enough nowadays.
Please include the dosage, and when to talk whenever talking about a supplement.
You can start with a good multivitamin first for a few months. Then depending on your health, beauty, energy & longevity requirements, add the additional supplements. Every body is different.
And you get better results when you are doing IF & LCHF.
I wish it was that simple. Dosages vary from person to person and not every person needs to supplement with the same vitamins, minerals, amino and essential fatty acids.
what about diabetic meds?
So a expensive vitamin is best?
There’s just not enough of these type physicians around and they aren’t affordable for most of us
Thax for podcast . 🙏
is magnesium in pure cacao good
GREAT WORK !!!!!! DOES LITHIUM DEPLETE B VITAMINS ?
It depleats your soul...
This is great info but trying to a find a Dr who has the knowledge they have is close to impossible. Most of the knowledgeable Drs I find online are not taking new patients.
I live in South Africa, Johannesburg... We Cannot get all the different Supplements!
Are these Brands Ok???
Metagenics
Solgar
Solal
Now foods! Thank you Jenny
I would suggest you look up information on brands which are recommended in Physicians' Desk Reference (PDR) or Monthly Index of Medical Specialities (MIMS). I use Usana because its recommended on both reference books.

where can I find a good functional medicine clinic in Austin?
How do i find a clinic like yours in houston texas!!!!
If you eat plant matter you need this video.
If you eat nose to tail carnivore with wild caught fish occasionaly you can skip this video completely. You do not need supplements at all.
Thank you Dr

Dr. Hyman,
What is your opinion on Biomaridian scanning? I've heard of this before and honestly I'm a little skeptical... But whenever I try to find a holistic/functional medicine practitioner near me, they ALL seem to use this method of body scanning.
I'd love to get your feedback.

I take vitamins ect becaurse I have been very I'll and hardly been eating. But it seems like I keep having these signs of too little of everything even after a half to one year of extra vitamins minerals ect. Does it take so long or can I take it in somehow...am I not absorbing it?

Exactly 😂
Coffee!😩 even just 2 cups in the morning?
U can drink in the morning n stop before afternoon, then take the mineral Mg, Zinc, Fe.. supplements at night!
I did not know that a microbiom was in the soil.
I realized it's in our gut, but jezz!
Interestingly, most people dont really care about any of this until personal health takes a toll.
Maybe what we need is an all ever seeing ponoptigonuc eyeball staring at the snakes face!
It would be interesting to have Dr Morley Robbins on as he has created the Root Cause Protocol regarding magnesium defficiency.

Thank you for sharing. I will be looking into picking up some magnesium glycinate. 🇨🇦❤️
Yes, I"m wondering what are some good brands to look for? Thanks
@@frankferrara624 check Amazon, I just got my 1st bottle from purely holistic Magnesium Glycinate 400 mg. A bit pricey, but worth it imo
If only we could trust Amazon. I get a get supplement the first time. The second order they change and the ingredients. So many Cheaters it’s difficult to trust many of them.
Many fake reviews. Many people not being honest I’m their information.
PureBulk for best pricing. Spred out mag thru the day. Take it all at once and you may be pooping alot. Figure out which type works well for you. Mag glycenate mixed in water tastes kind of sweet and fishy...gross, but a lot cheaper than pills if you can put up with the taste.☺
buy mg. glycinate from Pure Bulk, etc. Get capsules & pill maker.
Vitamin e supplements have helped my asthma so much I no longer use an inhaler

I'm trying to see a functional medicine practitioner, but they aren't covered by insurance. And their visits and testing are super expensive. I'm very interesdted in pursuing this path, but it seems it's just for the rich?
