We used to own a current generation AWD Pilot and now own a 2021 AWD Palisade Calligraphy. The Palisade is less expensive and overall a MUCH better vehicle than the Pilot. We found the Pilot to be noisy, rough ride, a brace in the seat back broke, and the interior materials seemed cheap compared to the luxurious interior of the Palisade. After a six hour road trip we experienced no aches and no fatigue in the Palisade. Having owned both the Pilot and the Palisade we feel the Palisade is a much better vehicle.
@@KnowTheNewOfficial not going to pay 50k for kia or Hyundai. Honda and Toyota been in this game for over 10yrs and Hyundai and kia just started making those suv. 5 years ago kia and Hyundai don't even compete
So was ToysRus, JCPENNEY, BORDERs, been doing what they do for years!! I understand the brand sentiment behind the Japanese makers vs. Korean maker, but that's just how long it takes to gain trust.... You start low and climb up. Look at all the EV companies? Would you buy a Tesla EV or a Honda EV?
Another great review and comparison ! My choice would be the Palisade Calligraphy, because of its unique looks, build quality, innovative features, and reasonable price. My only disappointment is that it does not have the power-folding side mirrors that are on the Telluride.
Been said, Honda is rolling out a new Pilot for '23. It's going to be about three inches longer and I think a tick wider. I have heard the cargo volume will improve to around a 100 cubic feet, up from 83. They are also dropping the ZF 9 spd..Hooray!! It has had a problematic past. Improve the rear access behind the second row, edge up the styling and it will take more of a bite out of Hyundai.
One of my top concerns is the reliability. Does anyone have a Palisdade with 100k, 150k yet? If so tell me what major maintenance did you have to do on the car.
Hyundai has improved a lot. I had an 09 sonata that had 120K before it got totaled(t-boned) by somone that didn't stop at stop sign. I walked away with no scratches or bruises. A little shook up... But that car saved my life. The car had no issues and would have kept going pass 200k. Daughter has a 6 year old Elantra with no issues. All it gets is an oil change every 6 months and tire rotation. I had a Santa Fe, which had 60k miles... Yeah not too much miles, but I traded it in for a Palisade. Again, no issues with the Santa Fe. Concerns: Hyundai have issues with their Theta II engines. But the Palisade uses the Lambda engine. GDI engines have potential carbon deposit issues. Just the nature of GDI engines. But Hyundai is not the only one doing GDI. Honda and Toyota are doing GDI now too. It will be just another maintenance item... Cleaning the carbon deposits.
Honda Pilot for me! With no Hyundai experience, I have to fall back on my high satisfaction record spanning 40 years of Honda ownership. The fact that the Pilot kicks butt in the performance comparison is the icing on the cake. I suppose you can’t go wrong with either contender, but Honda gets my vote and my $$. (Watch for my upcoming vehicle reveal…hint: it’s not a Palisade 😉)
@Mike Fyxdt I had a Hy Elantra that had (still has) a serious braking deficiency. The dealer gave me the ‘run around’ and Finally claimed ‘that is the way they are’. I even took them to the BBB about this dangerous issue. Well - guess who’s side they are on? Hyundai of course because they Pay them to belong. Even though there was a brake booster revision for that year, they would do Nothing! And when I went to trade my Hy in, I found out the 100,000 mile warranty was Not transferable! My Honda’s is. Hummm, I wonder if Hys (and Kia) are Still catching on fire from poor engine machining?
@Mike Fyxdt Get this: Hy & Kia advised their customers Not to park their vehicles in their garage because they could catch on FIRE! If they still self ignite, I am not sure. Needless to say (write), I will stick to my Honda Pilot no matter what unvetted reviews claim. And it is faster and stops better.
Yeah I was a big Japanese car fan when it came to reliability, style, and performance and stayed away from early Korean cars for decades. The Koreans for the past ten years or so did a 360 and overtook the Japanese in all aforementioned categories. The difference now is like Samsung brand for electronics (televisions, cell phones, etc.) vs. Sony's. The Korean brand is so much better and fresh in comparison.
After your review, I think the Palisade wins … my biggest problem is that I need a bench seat on the second row, and Palisade does not offer that in the higher level finish. ;-(
I test drove both, put in 7 passengers, and in high elevation that extra acceleration and power makes a huge difference. In the end, I still ended up with a 2022 Honda Pilot sport trim in my garage!
Wonderful comparison! Yes I was a strong advocate of Honda cars and thus loved the Pilot until I got to know Palisade. one word to sum up or maybe two "Inexpensive Luxury". I am waiting for 2023 Pilot so that have a final verdict before buying 2023 Palisade Calligraphy. Thank you again Gold Pony.
I am in the same boat. Waiting for pilot 2023. I have heard bad reviews of korean cars in general and also where a mechanic said "hyundai kia is junk". Also heard, hyndai kia cars start burning oil at 15k, not surr if its true for palisade. I dont want to goto mechanic every 6 months. Recently, honda pilot is also seeing disappointed customers on transmission issues. Palissade infotainment and interior does look luxury.9
You should do a comparison of the pilot Vs explorer Vs pathfinder. These 3 vehicles have been on the market for decades and not the Koreans. I had the Chevrolet Cruze.which was made on a Korean platform, which was the worst reliability and lasted for 130,000 Kms for 5 years. I had so many problems with it.
We been driving pilot for almost ten years with replacement of one easy sensor only .I'm trying to get another pilot but new model are smaller I think I'm going with palisade 🙏thank you for your information
Honda doesn’t need to keep up with the other competitors , Honda performance, and durability is a factor. I just bought a 2022 Honda Pilot and I am totally satisfied and impressed. Made in United States 🇺🇸 Honda is Honda . My Choices 👍❤️
The lowest trim for pilot is now the Sport, around $37k. Hyundai dealership are also adding a $10k "market adjustment" cost making a $41k sticker now cost !$51k to purchase. So far the Honda dealers in my area haven't joined in this "price gouging."
The prices these reviewers quote for the Palisade/Telluride are like Unicorns! I was looking for a used Telluride with low miles but couldn’t find one for less than mid $50,000 with 40,000 miles! Hell nawh! I’m poor!
@@JC-zw4bw You can't really find a Lexus SUV that can haul 7 - 8 passengers.at that price range. The RX350L has third-row that is meant for pets, not even toddlers. Likely have to go up to Lexus GX which is much more expensive.
The Pilot! The AWD system is night and day better than the Palisade/Telluride. Some of these reviewers never go into depth about the AWD systems when they review these SUV’s. Search SH-AWD or I-VTM4. Love the look of the Telluride👍🏾, not so much for the Palisade👎🏾, but that’s where it ends.
Can you please say honestly how Hyundai Palisade v6 gdi engine is? Is this very good quality v6 engine? Will this engine run 500k to 600k km? I want to know because I have a confusion to choose between Hyundai Palisade V6 vs Volkswagen Atlas sel V6, please give me the right information
I used to buy all Honda. I had 2 excellent Honda vehicles and I had 4 that were below average reliability, comfort, and terrible tech. Honda's have not been even close to Toyota reliability for a decade or more and I was a big fan and still love the AWD system on the Pilot but otherwise the newer vehicle have been big let downs.
Here in DFW they are selling used Pallisades/Tellurides for $60k plus with 30k plus miles on them. I seriously don’t know where these reviewers get the pricing info from🤷🏾♂️.
Overall, the Palisade seems to edge out the Pilot, but I’m concerned about resale value. Hondas have a higher resale value traditionally. Could this be the game changer? 🤷🏽

Honda is the better an trouble free vehicle. They do need to change there body style
Palisade
3 yrs maintnance is it only in the US ?
The Nissan Armada offers 8 seats in top line luxury model.

Honda Pilot
