Hey everyone, two quick corrections. First, and perhaps MOST importantly, Thomas meant Ed, not Eddy. Also, the 10-year warranty we reference is US only. In Canada, its a 5 year. Sad face. Have a great day!

Toyota have good resale and reliability ratings but they are absolutely not who you go to for features and luxury, until their updates this year a lot of their engine options, and infotainment systems have been laughably outdated. Depends on what a person is after I suppose. My volkswagen GTI may not last as long but the interior is night and day nicer in terms of initial quality and feel in my opinion, I have two family members with tacomas and I can never get over how much of a tin can it feels like when you close the door on them.

I own a Palisade and the button selector didnt bother me until I needed to back out, and immediately go, in traffic. With a gear shifter you can flip the car from reverse, to drive, while it is drifting back...with the drive by wire, and understand it is a safety feature, you need to come to a stop before it will go into drive. Add in the cross traffic sensoring and you feel like a sitting duck. It is a one time life lesson. It quickly taught me to be more patient.

My wife originally wanted the Telluride, but after finding out dealers in the US were gouging prices, I decided to look at the Palisade. We ended up with an SEL with the convenience pkg, which included the much nicer 20" wheels and many more amenities. We almost have 20K miles on it now and are averaging 23mpg. I have gotten used to, and actually love the push button gear selector and the paddles make it a little more fun when the mood strikes. It also allows for a shelf on the floor under the center console which gives it better storage packaging over the Telluride. Hyundai dealers were way more willing to deal on the Palisade as well. The reason it became a no brainer. Oh yeah, Car and Driver actually got 6.8 secs to 60mph in the Palisade and 7.0 secs in the Telluride.

      1. Wait till its always at the dealership getting fixed and inevitably has catastrophic failure, most likely just out of warranty.
      2. Then you'll be faced with should I fix or sell it... but by then it'll be worth nothing when compared to a Japanese competitor.
Even before the failure it's resale value is the equivalent of garbage.

I know it’s anecdotal, but the Hyundai has already proven itself indestructible. Our switch from the Highlander to the Palisade was one of the best switches we’ve made from a Toyota to a Hyundai. You can continue to be negative and insistent upon Japanese superiority, but Kia and Hyundai are competitors to be taken seriously. All of their cars in the past 2 or so years have stepped it up in reliability(their cars were already pretty solid beforehand, not as good as Toyota of course, but now is a different story), and the appeal to it is insane. Regardless of reliability, you’re getting a huge value proposition with both the Telluride and Palisade. You get features(and cargo space) on those two cars that competitors like the Pilot, the Highlander, and the CX-9 simply don’t have. You’re buying a level of comfort that others don’t match as well. We LOVE our Pallisade. So far it’s the best vehicle we have ever owned by far. I am sold on the brand after many Nissans and other Kias, Subarus in the past. You can’t go wrong with either, but; after driving both several times we opted for Hyundai which has a superior interior if you have three growing active boys.

The interior in the Sonata won't feel so outdated for many years to come, in my opinion. I commute a little over 40 miles and usually average 37-42 mpgs going about 65-76 mphs. It's been good going for 15 mo/ 16K miles w/ our 2020 Hyundai Palisade SEL and did a round-trip last summer from PA to CA. Needed an 8 seater & was worth the money compared to Telluride on features and space. Despite the hype & over MSRP price, got a great deal from NJ much lower than MSRP. Two dislikes so far - shifting at low speeds and frequent service schedule.

Thanks for this comparison of these two really awesome vehicles. This helped my wife out a ton on making her decision on which to get.
