I just drove the 2024 models highest trim for Atlas, 2023 traverse (bc they don’t have a 2024 model), Telluride, Pilot, Highlander and Grand Cherokee. Hands down, the 2024 Pathfinder Platinum was the most comfortable, best tech/comfort with features, 80 cubic ft storage, but also sporty and stylish. Incredible car, by far the best from those we drove. We ended up purchasing white w/black trim Platinum model. Insanely great car, plus safest for children!!
I have the new pathfinder and love it, but I can understand why it didn't make the top 10. It's third row and cargo space are smaller than anything on this list aside from the Highlander. Only one engine option knocks it down, along with the 8 or 9 inch screen options. I do agree that it's exterior aesthetics is probably best in class (this is of course totally subjective), and the interior is nicely laid out and functional. All that said, I think it's just too small for a family that will regularly use a third row.

@michaelmi7903 I was waiting for that last sentence...I drove a new Pathfinder as a rental week3 weeks while I waited for the dealership to ship the 22 3LT Traverse I wanted and I must say that the Traverse is WAY bigger in the 3rd row and cargo department and I LOVE it

NEW YORK, Sept 8 (Reuters) - Toyota Motor Corp (7203.T) reached a settlement potentially worth $150 million to resolve U.S. class-action litigation tied to recalls of about 3.36 million Toyota and Lexus vehicles whose defective fuel pumps could cause engines to stall. I was surprised to see the Ford Explorer even made the list. The Explorer ranks last or next to last in reliability. I can attest to that, my previous employer had 15 Explorers in their fleet. They spent more time at the dealer than in our lot, and the ones that remained and all had some type of warning lights in the center cluster. I agree it was nice to drive but I absolutely would not purchase one to use as a family vehicle. I was assigned one as a take home vehicle and drove it like I payed for it and completed all the required maintenance and still it proved unreliable, other than that I kinda agree with your rankings, thanks for your 3 row SUV comparison.
Was surprised Nissan Pathfinder SL was not at the top. Have put 10,000 miles trouble free comfortable ride miles on it. Enjoy the V-6 and have got 29 mpg on the highway. Leaning towards turning my lease into a buy out. Best vehicle I have ever had. Tops in safety and crash tests as well.
Nice list. My criteria would also factor in cost of ownership/projected maintenance/brand track record with reliability. With this in mind, I'd rank the Honda higher than the non-Toyota offerings.
Ever sat and drove in a Highlander? It’s the worse I’m 6ft but very wide muscular build. You feel everything on the road feels cheap and the seats and sitting space in the front and back are way to small for me. I own a ford explorer and I love it. Smooth ride large seats has power
We have Grand Highlander Limited Hybrid… it’s really amazing and quite SUV ..specious etc … the problem is when we drove few times on the long drives (300miles ) it was really rough ..you can feel every uneven road or pat holes … it got better (maybe tires) but still not good enough
Stop complaining about the Honda Pilot’s infotainment display 4:45, like that is the most pedantic thing to get upset over, safety and reliability is way more important. Nobody with working brain cells cares if a 9inch display is smaller than a 10inch display, the important thing is if this $50000 car will last the next 20 years
Who cares, the Pilot is incredibly reliable and its Trailsport is badass. Looks amazing, is amazing in snow, icy roads and trails, it has incredible space and most importantly.....NO TURBO BS that will go bad before 50k miles ... Signed, every mechanic
The Atlas is actually really, really good! That being said I ended up with the Pallaside Calligraphy, it has just a few more features such as massaging drivers seat that the Atlas doesn't have.
@@anaveragehuman2937both are honestly the best practical 3 row SUVs. Get the one you like best for the price. GH has major MPG advantages. I got the pilot elite personally because to me the drive of it felt similar to the MDX and q7 but just a tad louder. Smooth with great handling.
Gentlemen, this is an awesome video. You just basically reviewed an entire segment! Blanket coverage for someone trying to decide! This is the first time in my life I have ever watched a full UA-cam video! Outstanding job!
I considered getting the 2024 Chevy Traverse Z71 or the Honda Pilot Trailsport, but then decided on a 2024 Toyota 4Runner Limited. The Traverse is having significant transmission problems, and I saw a video where the Trailsport had issues with deep snow, and living in Minnesota, I needed something that could get me back and forth with little trouble. I'm sure I'll get some push back from people talking about how ancient the 4Runner is, but I can guarantee that when all of these other vehicles bottom out, mine will still be going strong. Plus, with a true 4wd system, it'll go farther as well.
@@Brian_Eugene_Lee I love the SX Nightfall Edition, but that's only offered through the 2021-2023 Telluride. Any personal experience with the Palisade Limited?
I own just a basic Grand Highlander XLE 45k out the door. I fking love it. It is very spacious, drives smooth and very quite. Very little road or wind noise
They should start rating these based on short term 2-3 yrs those leasing or long term 5 yrs plus for those who keep long term. I went with the pilot because my goal was to keep long term, so storage, quality and reliability are my top picks. But it i was leasing i would have probably gone with the Traverse since its larger with cooler tech and its leased so i know im dumping it in 2-3 yrs anyway. But i would agree looks aside the Grand Highlander is the best overall package.
Resale value can be a good addition as well a lot of us likes to trade in the vehicle within 3-5 years that aspect can be a good addition in my opinion
I can’t get past the misspelling of “experience” lol. Just stands out and punches me in the eyes. But other than that, love the video as always. Looking to get the wife a palisade. That’s what she really wants. But we have a 2017 Acadia Denali and have had it for right at 7 years. Since the announcement of the new Acadia. We’ve been waiting to see it first before we decide. And we wanna see the new traverse as well.
I test drove the new Traverse and it truly is amazing. The interior is fantastic. Seats super comfortable. Quiet cabin. Huge interior space that felt like a minivan in the best of ways. The screen and infotainment just literally unmatched. All this but I can’t get over how so many people online shit all over Chevy in general and a lot specifically about the Traverse reliability.
I believe everything on the list can recline the third rows to some degree. The options with power third rows are able to do it electronically, of course.
Just wanted to say the VW has REALLY solid doors. The power is not the best, but it's so luxurious inside and out. If you are really smart you are basically in a lambo, audi q8. With less power.
Which vehicle out of the Pilot, Korean twins, or the Grand Highlander do you guys think has the best ride quality for back row passengers? My kids get car sick easily.
@@rnguyen2516The grand Highlander has been noted by several reviewers as having a very boaty feel to it in the worst way. That makes for far more likely queezy ride for those in the back if not in general.
Thank you for the video! I would suggest you ask your audience who are interested in buying these cars what their top 5 categories are. When you look at this category of a 3 row SUV, the largest segment of buyers are families with children. I would then change the category of luxury to reliability. If you wanted a luxury 3 row SUV, there are far better ones that are not listed here which I completely understand. I am sure you guys will likely do a video for luxury SUV's at some point. Families who are buying these cars will want to know how much it will cost to maintain and not spend time in the shop for repairs. I would be interested to hear if you did make this change from luxury to reliability how you would rank these SUVs. Thank you for taking the time to read my opinion and keep up the good work.

@@reneerozic4999 yeah, unfortunately a lot of my family members have purchased VWs in the last 15 years as they were getting good deals on them, turns out first 4 to 5 years were alright but after that the engine started having issues and so did the transmission and air conditioning, and that’s not the worst part. Any car can have issues BUT VWs are not great as after sales service providers. Parts are expensive ( compared to Japanese or American brands) and they lack expertise in zeroing in on a problem. My brother in law had an engine seizure just 4 years after buying a new Golf and Vw straight up refused to acknowledge any issue with the engine and put forth a giant bill that he had to foot as there was no other option. My colleague has an older VW Tiguan and it is riddled with issues of suspension, electronics, body work and the car is not super old , I mean its from 2007 or so and is always parked in a garage and is driven gently by a 50 year old .
Thank you so much for your expertise what are you thoughts on Mitsubishi 2023-24, Honda HRV, Hyundai Santa Fe Looking to purchase next year hoping to best SUV that won't hurt my budget

Thats why now im really knowledgeable about cars. Keep up the great work. You guys are great. Happy New Year
Listening to your top 10... I chose none of the above but went with the 2024 Genesis GV80 Advance Plus, 3.5T AWD. The price was higher, but the amenities in this vehicle are amazing!
It's 328hp and 326lb ft of the new Chevy Traverse seems to me that on powertrain scores at least a 4. Also there should be a design category because the Chevy Traverse, Hyundai Palisade, Jeep Grand Cherokee and Mazda CX 90 are better than the rest in design. If you'd included that the resaults would have been much different..
My family got a brand new Hyundai Palisade Calligraphy. Safe to say we will never purchase a Hyundai again. While driving in a city 6hrs away from home the car suffered a catastrophic manufacturers error where the engine literally fell due to a poorly heat treated transmission mount. While being repaired by a Hyundai dealer they told us that if we were going at 60 mph which we were about to do, the car could've ended our lives as the engine falling at that speed would disable speed, braking, and airbags. We are absolutely furious as this is a brand new 2024 Palisade of the highest trim level. We have already gotten a lawyer and are suing Hyundai motor company for giving us a dangerous vehicle. Absolutely dangerous vehicle that I would not recommend. Do not let its flashy interior fool you.
Powertrain reliability should be top of mind. Everything else is nice-to-haves but if unreliable, it's pointless. Honda Pilot has one of the best engines on this list - the tried and true naturally aspirated 3.5L V6.
I'm guessing reliability and the cost price for these car is not important to buyers. So the way how you guys rank these suv is not accurate. Because the top 3 selling suv in north America and the rest of the world is based on reliability space and cost prices.
You guys put a lot of effort into this video. Appreciate it. Got a lot of value out of it. My 6th grader noted that you might need to repeat 4th grade. Experiance? LOL.
If/when you do both mid-size two row segments (please don't skip doing both regular and luxury), I can't wait to see how the Mazda CX-70 does. It's what I would drive
I have been driving the Grand Highlander Hybrid Max for 6 months now. No problems whatsoever. One thing I do note, sometimes when I step on the petal, it feels like the gearbox doesn't shift into place. Like the car is on neutral and won't accelerate. But when I let go and step on it again, it shifts and takes off. I never felt this before in another car. Have anyone seen this before?
The Hyundai and Kia used to be the top 2, but the newly redesigned products from GM are seriously exceptional. I also think that the new Grand Highlander is a great option as well. I was surprised the CX90 was so early in the list considering the luxury it offers and the features that it offers, but definitely agree it may not be the most practical. The GMC got last place this year, but think that with the redesign, it could score #1. The new model is honestly amazing.
They take into account price. Hyundai/KIA will always win because they offer so much more for the price. I can bet you thousands that the new GMC Acadia will surpass 60K loaded. And it still won’t offer massaging seats, hybrid systems, ventilated second row seats, heated 3rd row seats, and other features/tech/luxury competitors offer.
Yea, you ain't get the same Luxury at the same price as Hyundai/Kia. Grand Highlander is the best but no one can get it because of such low supply+ dealers are super greedy and will charge a market adjustment.@@ayushmalpeddi2793
@@ayushmalpeddi2793 definitely agree you will probably get more bang for your buck with the Hyundai and Kia’s, but the new GM products are still offering a lot, but not as much for the price.
South Korea holds their currency at a cheaper rate to the dollar so they could have an advantage in build quality, tech and price over U.S. manufacturers. Enjoy these while you can as their currency will be revalue on par with the dollar causing a significant increase in price.
We have the previous model of that highlander and now I really want to have that Grand highlander and does anybody have that new car model sickness like you have to catch up with latest model like me.
Totally disagree with them. Seems like cargo space was more important than reliability, performance, handling, and driving excitement. I drove all of them and to me, here is which I would pick. 1 Mazda 2 Toyota Grand Highlander 3 Toyota Highlander 4 Honda Pilot Rest, I don't care for
It was, as we only scored in the 5 most important categories for the average customer in this segment. While we completely agree on a personal level that performance and handling should be considered, the average person in this class cares about them far less than cargo space, 3rd row and features. Hope this clears up where the ranking numbers are derived from 👍
Agree with Carconfections. Most buyers in this segment need the space and a good 3 row both if which are not good for mazda. If you don't care for those then yes mazda is good.
Talk about drivability, resale value, reliability, longevity, safety...Mazda kicks Hyundai and Kia's butts. Add in cost of parts for eventual repairs, Volkswagon slides back as well. Don't forget to mention Jeep's iffy transmission. Ford shouldn't be anywhere near this list. Toyota, Honda, and Mazda all the way.
I drove the new mazda and it is so stiff and rides like 💩. and the interior looks cheap and the doors aint good. I will give them they made a quiet, cool looking exterior, but overall cars like lexus rx and nx exist and kick their ass in all of those.
Clearly, palisade designed thrid row with heated seats to feature high on this channel. On a serious note, this compares the features on the spec sheet, but fails to acknowledge the intangibles, safety and reliability that are key when you invest > $50K
I appreciate your efforts to sort out these 3-row SUVs. I agree with your ordering, but as you said, some people will have different priorities, and for me, a 2nd row bench seat is a requirement *as well as* all the bells and whistles of the top-trim offerings. That reduces my options to exactly *three* of the options in your list: Explorer, Pilot and Atlas (I've heard Atlas offers what I want but I've never checked it out because of the poor reliability - Explorer does, but reliability removes it from my list.) Are you guys aware of any other 3-row unibody SUVs that meet my criteria? I think Pathfinder is also available in top trim with a 2nd-row bench seat but once again the reliability is just not there. We'll see about the Traverse and Acadia, but given that Tahoe 2nd row seats are captains chairs in top trims, I expect the same for both these two.
@@FizzerTT21Thanks for that. I'll add it to the list. I'm getting older so I'd like to go with a Japanese vehicle so that I spend most of my time driving and very little time at the service department. Nice list. My criteria would also factor in cost of ownership/projected maintenance/brand track record with reliability. With this in mind, I'd rank the Honda higher than the non-Toyota offerings.
Absolutely correct, they do nice reviews but seem too impressed with bells and whistles and not enough about reliability.
My thoughts exactly. How can u rank a Chevy,VW,Hyundai,Jeep and Kia higher than a Honda. I just bought a 2024 Pilot Touring and love it!!!
Is warranty an indication of reliability? If the manufacturer is worried about reliability, why provide the best warranties by far?
Ever sat and drove in a Highlander? It’s the worse I’m 6ft but very wide muscular build. You feel everything on the road feels cheap and the seats and sitting space in the front and back are way to small for me. I own a ford explorer and I love it. Smooth ride large seats has power
Guys, how is the road noise in highway for grand highlander and if we using hybrid power train how are transitions?
We have Grand Highlander Limited Hybrid… it’s really amazing and quite SUV ..specious etc … the problem is when we drove few times on the long drives (300miles ) it was really rough ..you can feel every uneven road or pat holes … it got better (maybe tires) but still not good enough
At least you've explained the criteria for doing the ranking but clearly some SUVs here don't deserve to be on the list because reliability issues.
What are the most reliable ones in your opinion please ?
Stop complaining about the Honda Pilot’s infotainment display 4:45, like that is the most pedantic thing to get upset over, safety and reliability is way more important. Nobody with working brain cells cares if a 9inch display is smaller than a 10inch display, the important thing is if this $50000 car will last the next 20 years
Do you mean the 12.3 inch display** in the GH?
Honda Pilot Interior. Welcome to the year 2005
Who cares, the Pilot is incredibly reliable and its Trailsport is badass.
No. Stay away from vw. I work as a tech for vw. They are not as reliable as you think

No way I'd buy a jeep, Hyundai, or Chevy over a Toyota, Honda or Mazda.
I'm torn between Pilot Elite or a Grand Highlander Hybrid.
Why not a Hyundai.
@@anaveragehuman2937both are honestly the best practical 3 row SUVs. Get the one you like best for the price. GH has major MPG advantages. I got the pilot elite personally because to me the drive of it felt similar to the MDX and q7 but just a tad louder. Smooth with great handling.
That Jeep Cherokee will be in the used car lot within 3 years
Jeep Grand Cherokee is one of the best SUVs. The Japanese suvs are so ugly and boring.
Gentlemen, this is an awesome video. You just basically reviewed an entire segment! Blanket coverage for someone trying to decide! This is the first time in my life I have ever watched a full UA-cam video! Outstanding job!
Terrific! Glad you found the video helpful!
So satisfying to see when your vehicle ranks at No. 1 😌 Toyota Grand Highlander 2024
The Telluride will definitely do it for me
@@Brian_Eugene_Lee I love the SX Nightfall Edition, but that's only offered through the 2021-2023 Telluride. Any personal experience with the Palisade Limited?

What do you think about the Ycon?
I own just a basic Grand Highlander XLE 45k out the door. I fking love it. It is very spacious, drives smooth and very quite. Very little road or wind noise
I have a 2019 traverse premier, got totalled last week. Looking for new mid SUV. GREAT JOB GENTLEMAN LOVE THIS VIDEO!
Sorry to hear about your Traverse, but we're glad this video helped!
Was reliability or resale value taken into account ?
I would pick the Ford Explorer or Toyota grand highlander! I can’t wait to see the 2025 Ford Explorer !
Agreed
Amazingly, it made it through 3 sets of eyes somehow 🥲
I test drove the new Traverse and it truly is amazing. The interior is fantastic. Seats super comfortable. Quiet cabin. Huge interior space that felt like a minivan in the best of ways. The screen and infotainment just literally unmatched.
All this but I can’t get over how so many people online shit all over Chevy in general and a lot specifically about the Traverse reliability.
What is the rating of the Volvo CX90 with 3 rows of seats? thank you

How does the 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe Calligraphy scale on your list? Any honourable mention or does it not compare to the palisade
It's typically considered part of the class below this which is why it doesn't appear on this list
Great video! Does the new 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe fit in this category? If so, why did it not make it?
which of these vehicles has the best motor built to last 300k miles. with minimal issues. I need to buy a 15 to 20 year vehicle
Probably Honda but you have to make sure the trans will last that long...🤷🏽
Where’s the Pathfinder?
Thank you for the ranking and your opinions. Which ones have reclining third row seats?
I believe everything on the list can recline the third rows to some degree. The options with power third rows are able to do it electronically, of course.
Great Video. In the process of trading in my cr-v hybrid for either the Hyundai Palisade Night Edition Calligraphy or Toyota Grand Highlander.
Thanks! Great choices!

Just wanted to say the VW has REALLY solid doors. The power is not the best, but it's so luxurious inside and out. If you are really smart you are basically in a lambo, audi q8. With less power.
You can always tune it to make more power.. probably push it to 350 hp
Which vehicle out of the Pilot, Korean twins, or the Grand Highlander do you guys think has the best ride quality for back row passengers? My kids get car sick easily.
Out of those, the Grand Highlander has the most body roll. I would say Palisade and Pilot are both excellent in comfort and well controlled
I would go with the pilot. The 3rd row is big and it drives way better than a GH and Palisade

Thank you and we appreciate the feedback!

Hi, Can Volvo XC90 be in the top 5? Could you say the reasons why it wont be in top 5 list?
Very informative. Thanks fellas
Happy we could help!
Listening to your top 10... I chose none of the above but went with the 2024 Genesis GV80 Advance Plus, 3.5T AWD. The price was higher, but the amenities in this vehicle are amazing!
We have a separate list for a luxury options... Nevertheless, great choice!
4 cylinders is no 1 !
What about Acura MDX, Lexus TX, Genesis GV80, etc ?
They are doing mainstream products. I hope they do luxury (or near-luxury) sometime soon.
You guys put a lot of effort into this video. Appreciate it. Got a lot of value out of it. My 6th grader noted that you might need to repeat 4th grade. Experiance? LOL.

I wonder where the Lexus TX model fots on this list?...same chastity as the Grand Highlander
The Lexus TX falls on the Luxury 3-Row SUV list, so it does not compete in this segment
I agree when spending this type of money reliability and depreciation rating need to be somewhere is this rating.
Plz also make a video on best full size pickup trucks
Good to see a systematic ranking. But yeah, if you have kids, safety and reliability are major factors for consideration in a family vehicle.
Stay tuned for the 2025 list next month, accounting for many more categories including reliability, resale value, safety and more
Thank you KIA and Hyundai, you have made everyone step their game up...
Least expensive top trim version?
I like ur channel, objective n realistic 👍👍👍 waiting for the next 3 row SUV comparison👍
Thanks! 👍

South Korea holds their currency at a cheaper rate to the dollar so they could have an advantage in build quality, tech and price over U.S. manufacturers. Enjoy these while you can as their currency will be revalue on par with the dollar causing a significant increase in price.

Totally disagree with them. Seems like cargo space was more important than reliability, performance, handling, and driving excitement. I drove all of them and to me, here is which I would pick.
1 Mazda
2 Toyota Grand Highlander
3 Toyota Highlander
4 Honda Pilot
Rest, I don't care for
yay! I bought the CX90 and it is reallly good!

This list is only for mainstream brands. Luxury ones are in another video.
Reliability, people emotions, resale price etc categories can be added
We'll see about the Traverse and Acadia, but given that Tahoe 2nd row seats are captains chairs in top trims, I expect the same for both these two.
right about explorer, avoid at all costs, my colleague owns one, it is really a poor vehicle
Thank you! You're right, the 2nd row bench seating on top trims is something very uncommon in the class now unfortunately
The Jeep Grand Cherokee L can have a 2nd row bench seat in the top trims
@@FizzerTT21Thanks for that. I'll add it to the list.
