Wife drives Hyundai - Mother drives Hyundai - son drives Hyundai - I drive a 80s Mercedes - service all myself - never had a serious problem with any of them.
At the end, reliable car means SAFE!!! Consumers wants to change the model every but they don't understand changing too fast is risk of having problems!
Scotty, I've owned a 2006 KIA Sedona EX, No issues, traded for a 2016 Kia Sedona, No problems to date, my wife had a 2008 KIA Spectrum EX, no isses then a 2012 Hyundia Elantra, no problems, 2016 KIA Soul currently away at college, no problems with any of these except brakes and tires. I now own a 2022 Tucson, no issues. Please note that all these vehicles had their oil and fluids changed regularly.
Scotty isn't saying 10 out of 10 Hyundais will break down. It's a fact that Hyundais break down more often than a Toyota and just because you have owned a good Hyundai, it doesn't mean others would too. but at the same time, just because 9 Toyotas didn't break down, your 1st Toyota might.
I don't think he's saying they're a particularly bad brand. He's just pointing out the obvious issues they're having. He won't endorse anything else than a Toyota or a Honda lol
In contrast, my wife has a 2017 Kia Sportage. Bought new. $29K OUT THE DOOR. No issues. Leather seats, heated everything…my only complaint is the lousy mpg’s for a small 4 cylinder and the road noise. I think the road noise is because of the cheap tires used. But as a simple daily driver, she’s happy. And it didn’t break the bank. We will probably get rid of it at 100, 000 miles. But keep up with maintenance and it’s a fine inexpensive vehicle IMO.
For$29k u should absolutely get more than 100k miles out of a car. But that's the problem- they've figured Americans will trade in so why bother with long term reliability.
My wife drives a 2014 Sonata Limited (purchased new) with the 2.4L Engine. It's almost at 95K miles. Maintenance has never been missed and it runs great! Get's close to 40 mpg on highway.
My 2012 Accent is going strong at 108k. I realize it's not one of the vehicles discussed here. Not part of Hyundai marketing team, lol. Not every car is a lemon.
I have a 2013 Optima (parents bought new) that just crossed 100k and still runs great! Regular maintenance as well and planning to keep it until the wheels fall off.
Well I have a 2016 Santa Fe Sport with a 2.4 l gdi engine. I have cleaned the valves with CRC Gdi valve cleaner every 15,000 miles. The vechile now has 120,000 miles. The vehicle runs like a new vehicle as it should. My other vehicles are a 2006 Tundra and 2000 Honda Odyssey. Both of these vehicles work perfectly as I maintain all of my vehicles
Hi Scotty I have a 2018 kia optima with the gas GDI engine I have zero problems with this car smooth running quality made car no noises etc very nice looking car it's over 5 years old not one issue
My friend got a pre-owned 2016 Hyundai Santa-Fe back in 2020 for ~$9000. Not even a month of owning it, there’s something wrong with the engine so she took it to the dealership. They end up replacing the engine, but since it’s a manufacturer error, it can be replaced with no cost. I’m just happy that nothing bad happened to her, but she has successfully convinced me not to get a used Kia/Hyundai despite of more affordable prices…
My family and I have owned multiple Hyundai/Kia vehicles, starting with the Tucson in 2005 (which we still have and is still running strong). We have a 2005 Tucson, 2013 Kia Soul, 2018 Kia Rio, 2018 Kia Sportage(recently traded in for a 2023 Sportage) and a 2021 Kia Sportage between us all. They were taken for all required recalls and given routine maintenance and oil changes. There were never any problems other than routine maintenance requirements for any car (new tires, brakes, etc). Either we're the luckiest family in America or a lot of people don't know how to take care of their cars and blame it on the company.
@@LarryBirdsJumpshotMany people who buy inexpensive cars generally abuse them and do not service them properly. But then again so do some people who buy Bentleys. You just never know unless you buy from someone you do know.
My wife own a 2013 Kia Optima EX she inherited from her mother passing five years ago and its been wonderful daily driver. I own a 2023 Santa Fe XRT I purchased in 2022 and Ive had not trouble with it.
My Hyundais cars engine stalled after the dealership did an engine consumption test. The crank shaft broke and now they won’t honor their warranty even though my car is still under warranty. I drove the car only 30 miles after the oil consumption test and the engine blew up. I’m so disappointed in Hyundai they don’t care
Dirtbag dealership did something similar to my parents, wouldn’t cover a warranty repair, said car was out of warranty and said the purchase date was 8 months prior to my parents buying it, even though they had all the sales paperwork from that dealer. Stay away from Paramus Hyundai. Hyundai corporate was useless.
Well, I have owned a 2005 Kia Sportage 6 cylinder (purchased brand new) I have over 220,000 mi on it. I replaced all the hoses and belts, & the only thing that ever went wrong was that the fan blower needed to be replaced. Still so quiet sometimes you turn the key when the engine is running! I'm about to give it to my grandson who needs a car, and purchase a 2024 Kia Sportage. My wife has a 2014 Kia Soul it runs like the day it was purchased, it has 125,000 mi on it. I am definitely sold on Kia's engines!
Well Scotty you now have my heart pumping! I’m the owner of a 2024 Tucson, my fifth Hyundai which I have had no major problems with except for my 2006 Azeri where the transmission failed at 75,000 Kim’s (I’m Canadian). Hyundai replaced it under warranty and my son is still driving it with 398,000 Kms (he is frugal like you). You certainly have me worried about the Tucson but, I will keep you posted as I have a 150,000 km warranty! I love your informative posts so you can see why I’m now worried.
If you can afford to replace your car every 5 years, it really shouldn't matter what brand you buy. Regular maintenance and warranty should cover anything. Only real worry is resale - which on a reasonably priced car shouldn't differ hugely anyway.
this year my Hyundai Tiburon GT V6 5 speed, just turned 21 years old. i bought it new. the car is fast and has incredible handling! in 21 years I've had to replace the starter motor and the radiator, that's it! . it's a cool looking black coupe , probably the most reliable, and fun car ever! all it needs now is a new paint job! I'm SURE Scotty knows what he is talking about, but so do I!!
I’ve owned over 3500 cars in my 65 years ( was a licensed dealer) but I drove every single one of them. My experience is one fire only which was on a 1999 Jeep Cherokee from an electrical short under the dash which overheated and caught fire. I found the Hyundais to be less durable than most Japanese brands. Of all the cars I’ve processed and sold I believe the Toyota Corolla and 4 Runners were the most durable and lasted really well. Mazda 3 also were really good cars
2013 Hyundai coupe caught fire while on freeway then exploded due to “engine issues”. I consider myself VERY lucky to have gotten out alive. The company was very weird about it, I’m glad to see more info coming out on it these days so people can at least be aware. I’ve been a fan of your channel for years, and took your advice into account when buying my most recent car a few years ago, thank you! Currently loving my Honda
Did anything come out of your incident? Seems like lawyers would have a field day with that situation. I would have talk to a lawyer to see if that's the case. That's unacceptable for a company to put the lives of its customers at risk.
I had a my 2006 Hyundai Sonata 16 years no issues. I have a 2020 Sonata and it’s been great. My parents 2016 Santa Fe works great. My sisters have had Sonatas too all worked great. My only complaint is the glass in the windshields. I think we all have had a cracked windshields. I’m going to get the new 2024 Santa Fe.
My dad bought 2006 Sonata with 2.2 CRDI few years back for backup vehicle for 1000 eur. 465 thousand km in odo. Thus far only problems has been to replace injector seal rings (which is very simple and cheap fix, but can cause bigger isfues, you should do it if you haven't in these diesel engines), fuel gauge has electronic issue so it doesn't work, and had to replace rusted fuel line in the back. It's solid car I'd say. Much better to drive than my wifes 2012 Toyota Avensis with half that in odo and 10x more expensive in used market. There are problem cars in Hyundai/Kia lineup, but thanks to it the good ones are a steal, if you know what to look at.
Same, I have a 2015 Accent with a GDI and I’m at 175k miles, Ive had to replace wiper blades, and one $200 AC issue that I got fixed. It’s been an excellent car.
My college student daughter drives a completely loaded 2008 Santa Fe AWD with 320,000 miles on it. Doesn't burn or leak a drop of oil, and the inside of the engine is spotless. Best snow vehicle in the family., and we live in Colorado. Drives like new. Best part, I bought it six years ago for $1000 with a blown transmission at 195k. $450 for a used transmission and a couple of afternoons busting my knuckles in the garage and it's been unstoppable since. I keep asking my daughter if she is ready for a newer car. She says she never wants to get rid of it. So while they have a lot of GDI and Theta II engine issues, those pre-2010 Santa Fe vehicles were very well built.
Had a 2017 Elantra where the paint started pealing. The warranty was extended to 6 years but I was never notified and didn’t learn about the extension until after the 6 years. Was a good car aside from the amount of oil it burned.
Switched to a 2024 Corolla Hybrid after I learned my 2017 Elantra was burning oil. Good car but dealbreaker that the engine burned oil at just 67k miles which is when I found out.
Have a 2015 Veloster and the clewr coat stated chipping away a little over 2 years ago. So barely 5 years out of a Hyundai paint job before it starts going to hell.
Me and my wife have been driving kia and hyndai for quite some time with no issues. We follow the maintenance schedule, like any car owner should do, and schedule any recall work if it gets issued. 🤷♂️
When people say Hyundais are unreliable, they generally don't mean every car with a Hyundai badge is going to fail. Among ever car brand there's going to be a percentage of cars that run to high miles without issue. It's just Hyundai tends to have a higher percentage of cars that do run into parts failure. So you being a part of the high percentage that doesn't run into issues is believable, just be equipped with the knowledge of what you're buying
Same here. I have a Kia Rio and my wife has a Hyundai Accent. The Kia is a 2015 and the Hyundai a 2010. So, many years of use. 0 problems. Best cars we have ever had.
Those problems were recognized on 1996 Mitsubishi 4G93-GDI engine that I believe the origin of the Hyundai Theta II-GDi. The problems were enhanced by Hyundai.
Yep. The GDI tech that the Koreans brag about is actually 30yr old Mitsubishi technology with enhanced problems. I remember when the early Mitsubishi’s used to burn oil. Kia and Hyundai in 2023 still burn oil.
@@mrgurulittle7000 Same thing happened with MOST of our Mitsubishi’s in our Avis rental fleet. We maxed out our oil change intervals, ‘obviously’, at 7.5-10K mls and they would be burning a quart every 1-2K mls by then. None of the other cars at that time would approach that
Recalls schmecalls... even Toyota has them. I have 147,000 miles on my 17' Sorento, sold my 11' Sante Fe with 126,000 miles, my 07' Santa Fe before that with 107,000 miles. Our other vehicle is a Seltos SX with 35,000 miles... Maintain as you should and they should serve you well.
I guess it depends on the model. I have a 2005 1st gen Tucson with a 2L CRDI engine and I love it. Had it for over 4 years and only normal maintenance. All electronics work, plenty of power and does about 32 MPG.
My neighbor asked me about buying a Hyundai Sonata because he loved the looks and all the electronic gadgets it has. I told him what Scotty said and recommended he lease not buy. So he did, he leased for 3 years. Meanwhile we have a 2010 Lexus RX that still looks and runs like new after 180k miles.
Correct. Kia/Hyundai are great for leasing as you get way more bang for the buck than a Toyota, and return the car before any long term issues crop up. But if the goal is to keep a car forever, then you BUY a Toyota.
I own Hyundai Santa Fe 2018 .77,000 miles . No problems . Only things I do is changing oil every 5 thousand miles , tire rotation, breaks replacement and regular maintenance.👩🔧
In 12 I was looking for my last vehicle. I looked at the Hun. Genesis. Loved the way it looked. But I was afraid of the motor (reliability). So I bought a GM Buick Regal GS a 13. 10 years and 83,000 miles. Blown motor. Always changed oil on time. Wishing I had bought the Genesis. Never again will I buy a GM product.
I have a 2010 Hyundai Genesis 4.6 loaded. Just turned 106000. Had the extended warranty, only problem was the starter . Dealer replaced it at 88000 miles. Regular maintenance, and I still love the car!
@@dirtyjersey4672 are you NJ? Hudson county NJ. I hear good and bad about kia hyundai. i say it is oil changes and fresh filters that make the difference. If a toyota is not maintained, it can have the same problems.
I have an 18 year old Kia spectra, It has given me no real problems, except for normal maintenence. The only problem I have has has been with the shifter which was an easy fix.
For a car that is so awful there are as many of them on the road as Toyota. I've had at least 8 Hyundais and never had a problem with any of them. I even had a couple of the ones Scotty mentioned. Again. No problem. Any model or brand can have problems. If you like keeping your car 10 or 20 yrs then fine. But hold on to your shorts when you have to replace it. Especially since it won't have any value then. If you like getting new or newer every 5 yrs or so at least your vehicle should have a little value left. Have a nice day !
Failed to mention the massive depreciation of a car in the first three years, so if you replace one every 5 years or so you will be absorbing big losses when trading it in. It's makes much more economical sense to maintain and keep a car for at least 8-10 years.
@@tims7738 Don't necessarily agree. After 10 yrs your car won't be worth much and after the warranty expires all the maintenance and repairs are on you. Then when you go look for another car you are basically starting from scratch and the price of a new or used one will probably knock your socks off. If you replace (not necessarily with brand new) you will or should have warranty and hopefully no repairs or problems. But do whatever works for you. Just my opinion.
@@Steven-v5h2gEach approach has its pros\cons, however, I don't think Hyundai and\or Kia's hold up as well mechanically as Toyota, Honda, or Mazda over time. I can only speak from experience, have a Mazda3 for almost 9 years, only basic maintenance, runs like new. A comparative car like the Elantra may have similar results, but overall I don't think the quality is on par with the Mazda.
I had a 2021 Hyundai Elantra, and just about every time I started the car, there was a small grinding noise. It sounded like the starter wasn’t lined up correctly? Anyway, I traded it in for a 21 Acura ILX. What a huge difference in everything. The technology package is nice. Power seats, heated, ect…. Night and day! I used to have to pump a lever, to adjust my seat! It was an SEL MODEL. Because of Scotty, I took his advice, and knowledge, and bought a much more reliable car👍
2007 Elantra owner, close to 200k miles. I've only had a throttle position sensor replaced under warranty in 2011. Recently lost the engine on the road, and it was from bad gas! Besides that and a vandalized window, and occasional cracked windshield from road pebbles, car is trouble free. Paint still looks good, with occasional washing and I've never waxed it. The interior does need some work as the sun visors have both failed, but the cloth seats are holding up great with no rips or tears.
Yup, my SIL didn't listen to us and bought herself a Santa Fe. Driving down the hwy it threw a rod. Luckily for her even though she bought it used Hyundai is going to put in a new engine in for free. I think she should trade it in as soon as she gets it back.
Thanks to the Scotty I bought a 2024 Mazda CX5 vs Hyundai Tucson as they were both 0% 60 months and we needed a car bad. RAV4 were 8.25% or 5.99% my bank
I have a 2015 Sonata, that my mom bought new, it runs great no problems. It only problem was a broken plastic gear at the bottom of the steering shaft. The car has just under 115K, it only once showed a check engine light, it went off and never came back on again.
@@USA1-g9i The 1.6t is less prone to the common issues but it is still a gdi motor. If it doesn’t burn any oil right now I would definitely be looking into having an oil catch can installed that way you protect the piston rings. Just remember your climate if it gets too cold like freezing the contents in the can may freeze. We have 2020 tucson 60k miles doesn’t burn a drop or has any signs of carbon buildup affecting the motor catch can beat idea ever for this motor. Can I stalled since new I’m worried this thing will make it surpass 200k the way it drives right now it’s like better than new. Im begging for it to give me an issue lol but it just works.
This girl i know has a hatchback elantra and she drives it back and forth on a rough muddy road and her car has a really hard life and it handles it well. Better than my dodge hands down. So im sold on hyundai.
Wow. Good to know. Yeah I see LOTS of used hyundais and Kias on sale In Las Vegas with 200k + miles. Some people swear by them. Some people on forums say they have nothing but problems with toyota prius. Others get 500k +. A guy is selling his used prius In Vegas and it has 500k miles. His other one has 300k miles
My 2023 Santa Fe left me stranded on the side of the road in busy Atlanta rush hours. Dealer is trying hard to not replace my engine under warranty. F that 10 year 100,000 Powertrain Hyundai Kia do not stand behind their pos. Previously I had a genesis coupe 2.0 and the engine was burning 1 qt oil a month. Do not trust jd power all they do is take money from manufacturers and ranked them higher. My 2002 Ford and my 2006 Acura never gave me any troubles.
Wow I see a lot of comments about hyundai won't honor the 10 yr warranty.. my mom's 2012 sonata blew engine just months before 10yr expired and they honored it and gave a new engine still had to pay a few grand tho. I guess my mom got lucky..
@@hey-diddlediddleif your mom had to pay a few grand they definitely didn’t honour the warranty lol . They probably just made her pay “ their cost” and charge her any extra . I purchased a 2013 Hyundai sonata in September of 2013, and just traded it in for a 2023 Sonata July of 2023. Never had an issue and got over 300k miles on it. I was always up to date on maintenance and normal wear and tear. Never an issue with the motor.
In my experience, I've just sold my 7 year old Kia Sportage Diesel DCT Auto which I had from new; I did 132k miles in it and it never missed a beat! It has been the best, most reliable car I've ever driven and still looked like it was brand new on the day I sold it.

I had a 2015 Hyundai Sonata and I loved my car. Had no problem with it. Would still have it, but in 2022 I was rear ended & the car was totaled out. Replaced it with a 2023 Kia Sportage.
I had a 2018 hyundai elantra gt with only 32,000 miles. I'm the original owner, and it is in excellent condition. I went to renew my insurance and they only wanted to give me liability since they are stolen left and right in Phoenix. I ended up selling it and buying a 2005 toyota Rav4.
Hyundai for me has been great im on my third one, very reliable vehicles. I drive a 2006 Sonata bought new, runs gr8 @ 18 years with 80,000 miles. Routine self maintenance (fluids, belts, filters, transmission, brakes etc etc) I think a lot of trouble stems from poor maintenance by sloppy techs & owners who just don't service their vehicles until it fails.

2011 Sonata GLS here. 145, 000 miles. 2.4 Theta. No problems. Done all the recalls. Use Mobil 1 Full Synthetic and K&N filters changed every 6 months, Top Tier gas, Do the required maintenance on it. No problems, just brake jobs in my garage from time to time. Great car. Better than the Ford nightmares I've owned. Wife doesn't like the drive or ride in Toyotas and Hondas, loves the "fit" and "pep" of this one. The only bad part of these are the rust bucket rear brakes, changing them out is a royal pain, and the calipers tend to rust out and lock. Spring the extra cash and buy the rust treated ones from Rock Auto or such. My other rides are pre-1995 Jeeps. I work on them myself. Love, em.

My 2016 Tucson's engine seized up at 44K. Luckily I was on a back road. The lady at the dealership didn't even shrug when I went in, just handed me the warranty claim form. It took a couple months to replace the engine during which time I had to squeeze into the Accent they loaned me.
Loved my 2002 Elantra. That engine flooded with water and still ran for 20k miles after it dried out before I sold it. My 2011 Sedona just 205k miles and still drives great! Nothing but oil changes, brakes, and shocks for the last 105k miles!
My daughter had a 2016 Kia Soul that needed a catalytic converter twice and she was always getting the breaks repaired on that thing. Someone tried to steal it even though it was the top model with the push button start...so she had to replace back side window and fix steering wheel. It got totaled 2 months ago with over 120k miles on it. We told her not to go near a Kia again or Hyundai ...so now she's in a 2021 Mazda CX-30 and she loves it so far.
We had a 2018 Kia Sportage but just got rid of it for a '23 Nissan. The Sportage ran fine while we had it but we did have to bring it in for that knock sensor recall. Same engine problem as the other models where all the software does is when it detects the fatal knock, you're supposed to get it into the dealership ASAP. Most likely what would happen is they either ignore it and say it's fine or replace the engine. After doing the software update, Kia then provided a lifetime warranty on the powertrain. Not a bad deal but concerning none-the-less.
I believe Kia/Hyundai quality peaked in the late 2000’s. I had a 2007 Sportage with a V6 that ran like a clock for me. I would later upgrade to a 2006 Ford Escape.
I have a 2016 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid SE with 137000 miles. Drives very smooth and quiet. Gives me 620+ miles range per tank. I prefer its ride to my wife’s RX350. I always use premium gas. Change oil every 3k miles. I use cataClean and Fuel system cleaner before every oil change and have recently treated it with GDI valve cleaner from Lucas products.
Kia and Hyundai really jacked up their prices during the pandemic. Now that Honda and Toyota are close to full production, Kia and Hyundai will need to cut prices or offer large incentives. With that being said, I own a 2021 Kia Soul. Fingers crossed, but 60k miles so far.
Our '24 Sportage EX has a $30k MSRP and the features blow away anything from Toyota under $50k. I lease it for $0 down and $450/mo while a Rav4 was $650/mo and still had fewer features.
I have had 4 Hyundais from 2009, 2011, 2015, and 2023. No problems whatsoever. Don’t get me started on the new Fords I have had until I finally woke up!
I wish Scotty would make a comprehensive review of all the Toyota recalls and issues over the past 15-20 years. But he’ll never. He’s too much of a Toyota fan boy.😂
I bought a NEW Hyundai Santa Cruz... The transmission went out at 2,000 miles. Hyundai LIED to me about recalls...There are MANY RECALLS on Hyundai transmissions. Mine, would drop into whats called 'limp mode' thats 20 mph.... without any notice, I was driving on the freeway at 60mph, then suddenly dropped to 20mph ON THE FREEWAY !!!! and angering my life and my families life..... NEVER AGAIN... I SOLD it right away.
It's hard following the various power outputs of different models, and gets harder when they have different battery sizes. Maybe it would be easier if Graphs were shown? Plus most of these EV's are not Named - there's just a random collection of letters and numbers.
@@tooltime9260 Ohhhh.. I love this..LOL! I’ve read more novels, books and literature than most people in my age group, which you OBVIOUSLY wouldn’t be able to determine considering your statement. I had a 2022 elantra and faced lots of issues and I bought it new. I just got a new 2024 hyundai sonata delivered in the last three months and I already have these issues : 1. front bumper already detached 2. back bumper detaching already. 3. automatic side mirrors not going down. 4. the infotainment screen already blinking. 5. the remote control already peeled 6. body paint peeling. I will consider another company when my lease ends..
I love the styling on Hyundai and Kias. They may have issues but they are much cheaper than a lot of other car manufacturers out there in terms of a brand new car.
Scotty is all Toyota. Also he is back and forth. You can find a handful of videos of him praising the New Elantra, and at the same time millions of other vids trashes it.
Aside all the bashing he gives for Hyundai/Kia, he also made a video of top 8 Asian car brands where he put Hyundai/Kia fourth place after Toyota, Honda and Mazda.
My next car will be KIA NIRO. I trust Scotty, but prices for used rav4 hybrids are insane. There's absolutely no point of calling something better if it's in a different price category.
Scotty your video editing skills are often overlooked. Its not easy for most to produce content that looks professional as you produce. I would not consider a Hyundai or kia because i have to make my cars last at least 10 years

Toyota has the same issues they several recalls right now@@Qpwoeiritu1019

I don't think he's saying they're a particularly bad brand. He's just pointing out the obvious issues they're having. He won't endorse anything else than a Toyota or a Honda lol
Have a 2011 Hyundai Sonata. Put 249k on it before I had any issues. Was a good car.
Try touring tires.
My wife drives a 2014 Sonata Limited (purchased new) with the 2.4L Engine. It's almost at 95K miles. Maintenance has never been missed and it runs great! Get's close to 40 mpg on highway.

Absolutely key is to do maintenance, if not overkill maintenance.
That’s great. Toyota owners don’t need to do that. We just take it in for oil changes.
Thing is, we shouldn't have to maintenance queen a Hyundai like we would a German luxury or Italian road car.
How is the GDI Valve Cleaner applied? Thru the air filter, or do you have to pull the rocker cover off?
Wish I had seen your comment before August of 2023, I would still have my 2013 Santa Fe Sport 2.4 L GDI with me.
Hi Scotty I have a 2018 kia optima with the gas GDI engine I have zero problems with this car smooth running quality made car no noises etc very nice looking car it's over 5 years old not one issue
After 7 years I promise you that problems will start to come to you. I have owned kia before and never will ever again
$9000 used car, and a new engine under warranty? Sounds like a deal to me 🤷🏻
My family and I have owned multiple Hyundai/Kia vehicles, starting with the Tucson in 2005 (which we still have and is still running strong).

If you can afford to replace your car every 5 years, it really shouldn't matter what brand you buy. Regular maintenance and warranty should cover anything. Only real worry is resale - which on a reasonably priced car shouldn't differ hugely anyway.

Hyundai is a Korean brand
2013 Hyundai coupe caught fire while on freeway then exploded due to “engine issues”. I consider myself VERY lucky to have gotten out alive. The company was very weird about it, I’m glad to see more info coming out on it these days so people can at least be aware. I’ve been a fan of your channel for years, and took your advice into account when buying my most recent car a few years ago, thank you! Currently loving my Honda

Me and my wife have been driving kia and hyndai for quite some time with no issues. We follow the maintenance schedule, like any car owner should do, and schedule any recall work if it gets issued.

Those problems were recognized on 1996 Mitsubishi 4G93-GDI engine that I believe the origin of the Hyundai Theta II-GDi.
The problems were enhanced by Hyundai.
Good information! That’s the kinda stuff that doesn’t make it to the public
Yep. The GDI tech that the Koreans brag about is actually 30yr old Mitsubishi technology with enhanced problems. I remember when the early Mitsubishi’s used to burn oil. Kia and Hyundai in 2023 still burn oil.

Perfect explanation.
Failed to mention the massive depreciation of a car in the first three years, so if you replace one every 5 years or so you will be absorbing big losses when trading it in. It's makes much more economical sense to maintain and keep a car for at least 8-10 years.
@@tims7738
Don't necessarily agree.

In my experience, I've just sold my 7 year old Kia Sportage Diesel DCT Auto which I had from new; I did 132k miles in it and it never missed a beat! It has been the best, most reliable car I've ever driven and still looked like it was brand new on the day I sold it.
2024 Hyundai/Kia recalled for defective valves, blown engines, now also rear axles were not forged properly and snapping!
So why don’t you talk about the major Honda V6 recall for catastrophic engine failure and recalls for Toyota?

Scotty is right about new cars. Most of them have problems. Keep your old car if it has a manual transmission. And enjoy the reliability, too.
We had a 2017 Hyundai Tucson . It was the only new car that never had any problems or warranty claims on the 4 years we had it .
I bet it was under 100,000 thousand miles too. That’s a big part of the reason why you had zero problems
Yes it was . But I have to say , had far more issues on other makes . Current Volvo been back 3 times

I’ve had the 2017 Elantra, then the 22 kona limited with the 1.6T and dct tranny (that was the only flaw was the tranny wasn’t smooth starting into 1st). Now have the 24 Kona electric limited.
You just now put enough miles on it. How long before tranny goes?
Mom got a 2020 tucson and after the KIA BOYS scare with precaution her vehicle runs good no issues reliable. Just keep it maintained and it runs beautifully.
My 2020 Hyundai Tucson 2.0 is still running great also 🤞 🤞 🤞
My son’s girlfriend just dumped a 2018 Hyundai Tucson on a Mazda dealer (@ 48k mi) for a new MX5. The Tucson was burning oil so bad it had 1/2 quart left in it the last two 4K mile oil changes.
2019 Hyundai Sonata Sport SEL….have had it since 2020 and I absolutely love everything about it. MPGs are great and it is somewhat loaded, thankfully I haven’t had any issues, I maintain it well too, so not all Hyundais are awful…just fyi
We’ve had 2 Santa Fes, a Sonata Coupe Coupe , a Genesis G80 and GV 80 over the last 15 years with no serious issues

Kia recall for engine valve springs may cause fire
Kia is recalling 2,872 of its 2024 Telluride vehicles. The engine valve springs may break while driving, which can result in a loss of drive power and possibly create a hole in the engine block.7 days ago

That's great, I have an 06 Highlander with no issues either. But not everyone wants to drive dinosaurs. My wife leases a new Sportage, it's way nicer and way cheaper than a comparable RAV4 and we're going to return it before any long term issues crop up.
Love, em.
I made a video on a 2014 Elantra and yes it had knocking. It was only a matter of time before it would fail entirely.
Which Engine?
I owned a 2001 accent for 17 years, 2007 entourage for 8, and the dreaded 2016 Tucson for 7 years. No major issues with any of them. I keep them well maintained. My 2016 Tucson's engine seized up at 44K. Luckily I was on a back road. The lady at the dealership didn't even shrug when I went in, just handed me the warranty claim form. It took a couple months to replace the engine during which time I had to squeeze into the Accent they loaned me.

My 2011 Sedona just 205k miles and still drives great! Nothing but oil changes, brakes, and shocks for the last 105k miles!
A workmate had early Sonata and the Clear Coat failed just out of Warranty. Looked like crap.

I have an associate who works at KIA. The amount of brand new cars that are waiting for new motors is astounding.
I am not sold on any EV's right now
Plug-in Hybrids are superior to all electric autos.
No to both, thank you!
I believe Kia/Hyundai quality peaked in the late 2000’s. I had a 2007 Sportage with a V6 that ran like a clock for me. I would later upgrade to a 2006 Ford Escape.
Since they're starting to cost as much as a Toyota, this is a no brainer
Hyundai is great as long as you replace the engine every 70k miles.
