Bought myself a Ricoh GR IIIx earlier this year because I hate taking photos on my phone, and I’d always keep the larger camera in the bag. Best decision I made in a long time. Most of my favorite images from this year were taken with the Ricoh. This video is truly great advice, and I feel like I was in the same mindset as you. Having something simple to take every day makes me take photos that I’d never take with a larger camera, and that I couldn’t achieve with a phone.
@@willsharber Thank you so much Will 👍 I'm glad it's not just me that hates taking photos on their phone!! I am slightly tempted by the GR IIIx because of it's truly compact size. Might give one a try over the next few months. Thanks for being here, much appreciated 😃
I always take two cameras with me. I got 3 that I take with me outside, two X-T5 and one 50S II. I almost always take a combination of two of them with me every time I go out (sometimes I only take the GFX). I know it’s not as light a load out as yours, but I’m just used to a messenger bag with two cameras in it now. Only time I don’t take any camera is when I go to the store that is right outside my apartment.
I recently got the Sony a7C II (paired with a Samyang 24mm f2.8) and the body has some pretty decent "film simulations" similar to Fujifilm, called "creative looks" which I know some people would shake their head and say "real photographers never use those" 🙄. But hold up - they're not bad! I've shot manually and post-processed for almost two decades now-I've "earned the right" to shoot jpgs with film simulations if it brings me joy. I'm in that phase of life where I don't want to spend time editing my photos - I want to like what I see through the EVF and move on 🤷♀ that's what everyday photography is to me-basically a phone camera workflow but with a more enjoyable physical user experience
Exactly - just do what makes you happy!! The snobbery in photography leaves me shaking my head at times, if people want to shoot jpg then why not?! I knew someone would bring up phone cameras, and I nearly spoken about it. They don't work for me for the exact reason you say - user experience! Thanks for watching :)
I carry my X100V everywhere, but living in the highlands, I mainly end up shooting landscapes, as opposed to it’s perhaps more usual street photography habitat. I’m glad to see another landscape photographer enjoying this wonderful piece of kit. Mine is fitted almost permanently with the excellent wide angle adapter and a wee circular polariser. It’s easy to remove and pop in a pocket if necessary, and doesn’t feel like a ‘lens’. I love this set-up, limitations and all. So much so, that I’ve ditched my DSLR and holy trinity of lenses - they just didn’t get a look in.
I’ve never considered the wide angle adapter and I’m not actually sure why! Something I might look at this year I think, sometimes I wish it was just that bit wider.
You are completely right. Just now i'm sitting in a nice Hotel for 3 days and forget my camera. So the best camera is the one you have in your bag. For me it's my Leica D-Lux 8. Since i bought this little beauty i don't use my bigger ones any more. I decided to use only the Leica until the end of the year. If i'm happy with the limitations i will sell all my other stuff. Thanks for your inspirations.
Great advice. I’ve been taking photos since the 1960s when I was a lad and joined the camera club at my secondary school when I was 12 in 1971. When your pocket money was spent on film, developing chemicals and paper, you quickly learned when not to press the button. My best camera which I still own was my Minox GT. Pull the lens out, think about the focus distance needed, assess whether you needed 2x exposure and often put it on a wall as if forms a great stable little base. From 1984 it’s now 40 yrs old. The lens is amazing. As you said it’s the image history that matters. I think back to when my son was very young, when I met my wife, our trips to France, boating on the Thames it’s also gone around the world as a fun back up to MF gear including Fuji 6x9. I always use/d Fuji film mainly Velvia and Provia. However, ergonomically if I had to name the best camera to use, whilst being simple to master it’s my EOS 1 with its battery grip. A thing of beauty, still in perfect condition 35 yrs on. I bought ban ex demo 80 to 200 2.8L, then a 20 to 35 2.8L in the late 1980s. It’s all built to last and the lenses still work well with my 5D mk 3. I did get the 24 to 105 f4 L with the 5D as an exit deal. It was £2k new and they threw in a manfrotto tripod, a bag and some cards. I used that as I needed to make some interview films. It paid for itself in 2 days back in 2015. Yes it is superb, but I’m still debating what to take in May on a trip of a lifetime - 3 weeks in China with a lot of touring. The pro stuff, my great little EOSM5 kit, or maybe go simple and get the great little Sony compact that does it all and fits in my pocket. It’s crazy expensive at about £1100. What would you do?
I know this is a year old, but thank you! Great points between carrying something every day and making it easy, having a separate photo and video kit, and how sony's just aren't as fun (although technically fantastic) as fujis.
I love this series! Looking forward to the next episode. I have had my X100V for over 2 years, and so many of my favourite photos were taken on it - probably because I always have it with me.
Hi Rick - I'm an amateur who broke open his piggy bank to get the Z9 but just recently decided to buy a used Z50 as my everyday/holiday camera with the 16-50 zoom. Bonus is I can still use my 14-30 F4, 24-120 F4 and 100-400 from the Z9 kit, but you're right - it's a pleasure to have a camera small and light enough to go in a pocket to take anywhere without using a backpack!
Sounds like a great move! That's the main thing holding me back from a separate stills system - I already have so many Sony fit lenses that going in on a different brand would mean needlessly(?!) doubling up.
I have an original x100 love it but upgraded to the X100t absolutely loved it but killed it in a flash flood replaced it with the F wow fantastic kit. A couple of years ago I gave it to my old dad as his other kit was getting too heavy for him. Last month I went to see my dad off this mortal coil as we chatted a few days before he told me he loved the F so much he upgraded to the x100v which blew his mind. Dad’s gone now and left me his F and his V. I’ve not used the V yet not had time but when I do I’ll upload the results and be thinking of dad the whole way through.?Awesome review Rick cheers 📷❤️
That’s so nice that you have those as a connection to him, also I’m sorry for your loss. Similarly, I’ve just bought the same (film) camera that my dad had when I was a kid (he died a long time ago) and have the same connection whenever I pick it up ❤️
Hi Rick, I’m with you, I love my Fujifilm XT4 and all the simulations and “recipes” lol. They make shooting such fun. If it’s fun, you are going to do it. Thanks for another great video. ❤
I still use my X100S (2014 I think) quite regularly. It often misses focus but I really do like the "look" of the photos is produces. I've got a A2 print on the wall I love from this camera which is a regular reminder to me that 16mp is often more than enough for printing. I didn;t realise the X100V was their most recent iteration. Mine looks to be worth £500 still even though its near 10 years old. Madness. I see a few people saying they carry a XT3 or XT4 as their day to day. For me, as a XT2 users, that still gives me the problem you mentioned about choice of lens, whether to take filters, a tripod etc etc. So the X100S takes that problem away. Very good point you made about that. Good work again on the video.
It was you using the X100S that brought it to my awareness, so I have you to thank!! It absolutely is enough resolution, unless you're heavily cropping then you really don't need over 24mp I don't think. Crazy that yours is still worth that! Thanks mate, appreciate it.
Some wise words there Rick. I bought myself a used RX100 in the summer and got into the habit of taking it with me most places. I tend to do long hikes and it’s perfect for those. Yes, it has its limitations compared to my full frame camera, but fitting a 400g camera with a 24-200mm reach in my pocket often outweighs its limitations. Glad you’re getting the photography bug back again
Thanks Anthony! I had the an RX100 for a time (it actually complimented my Fuji kit when I mainly shot Fuji) and I did really enjoy shooting with it - an incredible camera for it's size. Unfortunately I was in a 'must sell everything' position when I started working for myself in 2019, needed the money to switch to Sony ironically!
I’m a Nikon Z7 shooter but bought the X100v 📷 last year. I love how the emoji looks just like it haha. . It makes me feel more creative and relaxed. I’m not thinking about all the technical parameters of shooting but just enjoy the experience of photography. I definitely play more and as you say, shoot more because it is right at hand. I bought it used with the 50mm tcl ( I got a great deal !!) I enjoy the film simulations and have been shooting a lot of multiple exposures. I shoot for me. Lots more to work on. I haven’t quite got to the point of traveling with just the X100v yet. I get FOMO especially on the telephoto end. I still love my Nikon ❤ Thanks for this video.
Good for you! Multiple exposures is something that I keep meaning to try but never remember when I'm out. I often put mine in my bag with my other kit when I'm travelling - I know there will always be occasions when I'll want to venture out with a camera that isn't my big one. Thanks for watching!
I'm agree with you. I used to be a "fuji guy" till I started professionally (on videography), and I jumped to Sony (A7IV), but everytime I go out, I prefer to take my XT3 and I enjoy it a lot more, and honestly, I prefer the photos I take with my fuji!
Another great video Rick. Never used a Fujifilm camera so don't understand all the hype, especially at the prices being asked. My everyday set up is a Nikon Z30 with kit lens. It surprised me how good the images are with this. When necessary I can also use the lenses I have for my Z7 so for me, smallish, good pics and versatile.
Thanks Alan. I know, the prices are stupid - especially when the rumours suggest that a new version will be out in spring.... Sounds like a great setup 👍🏻
Thanks Rick, another thought provoking and enjoyable video. I'm in the process of changing from a Canon 6D mk2 to an Olympus OM1 and will see if I need anything other than a Panasonic DMC GM1 as an edc. Its served me well for about 7 years and I still love using it.
The key with recipes is to pick a specific color one, and a black and white one for *at least a month* That’s how you can lock in and create “your look”. I personally use a Portra recipe based off classic chrome for my people photos, a Velvia variant for landscapes, an Eterna one for night shots, and a Tri-X recipe based off Acros-Y for my black and white work.
I shot with an X100F for a couple of years Rick. Fabulous little camera that just lacked the lens for close up work when shot wide open Most other stuff though, it was epic Great video mate. Great photography 👍
I adore my original Fuji x100s. And I’m waiting for my x100vi to land in my hands. I agree with all the faults, and weigh that against all the joys. And still land on the same camera. Wish I wasn’t as indecisive on the film simulations. But I feel a whole lot better hearing you say the same thing …!
Good video and it's on of the reasons why I have a variety of cameras covering full frame, APSC and micro 4/3. Many people will say that full frame is the way to go and even though I have full frame cameras from Panasonic, Pentax and Nikon ,they can't match size with a Fujifilm XT3 or XT5 or one of my Olympus OMD 1MKIII or EM5 MKIII with a small Olympus or Panasonic prime lenses, the OMD 1MKIII with the 12-40 f2.8 is a camera setup that is compact enough and very versatile for photographing different subjects.
Thanks - I'd wager that most people with a full frame camera don't actually need a full frame camera! Sounds like a good range you've got, something for everything 👍🏻
I had the x100v and couldn’t live with it and I’m a fuji user, I find a fixed lens to restrictive, at the minute I use my iPhone with the 3 lenses it has I find it more useful. But I get what your saying and you should have something in your pocket to take a shot 😊
Fair enough, it's definitely not for everyone. I can see why you use your phone, amazing to have that versatility with something that is ion your pocket anyway. There's just something about shooting on a phone that I don't like though, and I'd honestly rather not use mine. Curious individuals aren't we?! Thanks for watching :)
Don’t forget the digital tele convert mode (crop mode) to the equiv of 50 and 70mm on X100V. With The 24MP, those JPEGs is usable, at least for social media. Still a better choice than mobile phone camera.
Great video, my everyday camera is a Lumix DMC-TZ8 I find it a great camera and it can fit in a shirt pocket or just about anywhere. It has all the modes I want, the only thing is it doesn't shoot RAW but it comes with me everywhere and I picked it up on ebay in mint condition with a charger and 2 batteries for £23.00. The best but is its a Leica lens and the optical zoom is incredible and CCD sensor pictures are amazing.
After lugging my Sony system around for years, I wanted an easy to use everyday carry. Have my name with Wex waiting for the X100V , then the Leica Q3 was announced and I put my name down with Wex on launch day. Three or four weeks later Wex contacted me to say the had a X100V and a Q3 in stock for me. After contemplating buying both I decided to take just the Q3 and let the next person on the waiting list get the Fuji. Not looked back, on wish the Leica had the Fuji recipes
I've got three Olympus m4/3 bodies, but i just picked up an old Canon G12 & a Canon G7Xii & they're really probably gonna end up being my edc because of the wonderful versatility!
Thank you for a refreshing video and pointing out topics that are usually under the radar. Personally the X100 series would be a bit too limiting to me. I understand the idea but I need the variety of at least two focal lengths like 35mm and 90mm. YMMV like everyone else’s and I’m glad there’s plenty of options. Keep up the great work!
Thanks, appreciate it! I know what you mean, there are definitely times I wish that I had more focal length choices, but on the flip side I do think being limited helps a lot with my creativity at times.
Ricoh GRIII/IIIX Excellent images Great lens Ibis Recipes/customisable Image coontrol APSC sensor in a tiny body Genuinely pocketable (jeans pocket vs coat pocket of other pocketables) Only drawback for some is no viewfinder.
Agree 100% really love my GR been using it a couple of years … but it can be quite fiddly in cold weather as it is so small and I don’t like that control ring, mine has now started jumping, sadly I’ve lost so many ‘keepers’ this winter because of it - Been quoted £300+ to repair it 😢… bit the bullet & now have a x100v (at rrp) in the day bag keeping it company … it’s become a game changer - happy shooting 😊
A lot of good and true (according to me) things in this video. The fact that you need to love your camera to use it, the fact that the camera for filming may be not the best for doing pictures and the interest for a day to day camera that you bring everywhere … without a bag. I can only agree to this as I applied it to myself. I got a Leica Q for d2d, à gh5 for filming and a Nikon z7 with z zoom and afs prime lenses and this fits perfectly to me. All this stuff is second hand usually at half of the price from new (sometimes more) because I do think that new gear is far too expensive. The fact that Canon CEO explains that in 2022 they sold less volumes but got a better margin at the end of the year just confirms I am right … and it’s probably even more evident for Sony who can sell a standard 50mm f1.4 at more that 1500€… The only gear I could buy new is the Nikon Zf because as an old Nikon user since the Nikon FE , this camera is just the dream all ex Nikon users have in mind and it will be difficult to wait for 2 years for buying it old :).
Haha, I so agree with you on the recipe thing. Perhaps they want a unique term for Fujifilm that is different from other brands. I was going to get the XT5 as my everyday camera but you got me sold on the X100V, or maybe I will wait for a while for the hype to die down so I can get a gently used X100VI at a more affordable price. That one seems to have many of the weaknesses of the X100V solved
Rick, I just subscribed to your channel. I love the subjects you are covering. You are talking to me directly. Thank you. I need to do a location street type shoot. I am familiar with both Fuji X100 and the Ricoh GR line but did not want to get another camera. For the past week or so, I have been thinking about getting a pancake lens for my Sony A7RIV to make it a stealth street camera. All my lenses are zooms and they stick out like a sore thumb. There are no true pancake lenses for Sony as they were for my Pentax system. Their 40mm f2.8 is a true package lens. I will give it some more thought.
XT4 is my main camera, but I have two EDCs Ricoh GR3 (love it!) and recently bought the … yup x100v (was like an 11 year old at his first school disco who’d been asked to dance by the popular girl … fell in love with it immediately 😂) - nice vid mate … 😊
This video is beautiful! So liberating to realize that no, I don't absolutely need the big and bulky full-frame camera. Since I travel and walk a lot, I too need something like the model you talk about in this video.
Why not pop the xf27 mm lense on your XT3? It gives you many of the things that you like for portability and removes issues like battery loading. I like having the controls that I use the most on the outside, all the things I might have to touch from photo to photo. I like Fuji's industrial design, it makes me want to pick it up and shoot. I enjoy using my XT3 and the film simulations.
Nice video Rick. I have an X-T3 with the 27mm f2.8 pancake lens attached for everyday use. When I go out for a hike or something I use it with a 16-80 and 70-300. I much prefer using prime lenses though.
@@00Ryder I’m really pleased with it. It’s nicer than the 55-200 I had previously in terms of output and build and for the focal length it’s compact and lightweight.
@@richardturner81 at some point in the near future I’ll be switching to an Xt5 and I’m just not sure what lens set up to go for. My current options are the 27mm pancake and the 18-135 OR the 16-80 and the 70-300. I use a 18-135 now and love the versatility of that lens but I also want an everyday option. I’m just wondering if the extra reach is worth it.
@@00Ryder I had the 18-135 and really liked using it for the same reason. I did want the extra reach for wildlife shots as I live near Cannock Chase that’s why I traded it in for the 70-300. If I didn’t need the extra reach though the 18-135 is really capable or at least the copy I had was. The 16-80 is fine but it’s my least used lens out of the 3 I have.
@@richardturner81 no way, I only live just off of J16. How often do you chat to someone on UA-cam who’s essentially ‘down the road’ 😂. I keep coming back to the the 27mm prime and 18-135 and then considering other options then back to that. I don’t really do wildlife but the extra reach on hikes for landscapes would be nice to have. Since my first born came along I’ve absolutely rinsed my 35mm but it’s a bit to tight at times on my APSC Canon and the 18-135 just isn’t great indoors. Hence why I’m thinking the 27 f2.8 and the 18-135 would work well. And like Rick has pointed out, I can edit RAW photos but those simulations and JPEG workflow for quick sharing of family photos would be much easier and enjoyable. I can still shoot landscapes RAW and edit them if I want to.
Hi Rick! I just thought I'd say, it's easy for me, because my Nikon D7000 with the 18-200 Tamron lens is the only camera and lens I own! So, in a very real sense, I don't have that choice! Fortunately it is a camera that I absolutely love! I often joke that "I could love it, and hug it and call it George!" 😁😂😂
Another great video Rick. I’d like to try this camera esp as it has built-in flash but with another hopefully being launched next year will wait and get to try one out in a shop. Will be interesting to see how the used price changes when the new one arrives. Currently I pack a Nikon Z7 with a Z26mm in a bum bag when I want to travel light. In APSC mode it gives 39mm as well and still room for more digital zooming in post. For composition esp architecture I shoot in RAW & jpeg and set the camera to mono B&W. So the monitor, viewfinder & jpegs are B&W but the RAW of course are in colour. I create A3 wall calendars for a vintage steam railway station and even iPhone images printed at A4 are superb and heartily satisfying when seen printed & hung on people’s walls. Life can be shorter than you assume so do what you enjoy doing!
X100F (secondhand before the silly prices), and also because my little Lumix LX3 broke when I dropped it! This is a shame as the black-and-white setting (noir) is so moody and has great contrast, only matched by AR (B/W red, plus a lot of grain) with the fuji. The advantage of the fuji is the viewer. I never got on with the whole screen thing. By the way, a great, honest video. Note: I'm still a novice, and the thought of anything other than a fixed lens is beyond me.
My phone is my everyday camera - and it's not an amazing phone. I'm saving up for a decent camera as I'm sure I could get much better images from it, but there are so many things on the list above it. Think it's going to be a while! I make do with what I have though. Your videos are so inspiring.
Love the GR3 been using one a couple of years …. However discovered this winter it became just too fiddly to shoot quickly with cold hands (and that bloody control ring!) and I missed stuff. Bought the x100v, boy it was a real game changer! I will never get rid of the GR and I take them both out together (though, I maybe imagining it, but I’m convinced the GR growls when the x100v is put in the bag beside it 😂 😂) - happy shooting 😊
Every time I go out with just my phone or a camera with a fixed lens, I am frustrated. I always see a pic I'd love to take if what I had in my hand had a bit wider or narrower field of view. So, I carry my G9 and the 16-800 worth of glass. I am certainly partial to the concept though!
I totally get that. There were plenty of moments whilst recording where I wish I had narrower (the tree) and longer. 24-50 ish would be perfect for me, but that would mean sacrifices elsewhere I guess.
Thanks for this vidéo. Did you gave up on your A to Z series? I would say that yes: the best camera is not the one you have with you but the one you actually use.
The best everyday camera always is a mft camra. A 24-70 eqivalent lense is almost comically small on it at the pictures look great. I use a 14-140mm (28-280) lense and no camera on this planet could give me more joy than this combo if it comes to everyday shooting experience
What software are you using to open up the RAW files? My best friend left me his XT2 and I picked up a X100v used a while ago, I was always used Nikon and still do, I’m using Lightroom, Nikon RAW files open no problem, but my Fuji RAW files will not open.
I use Lightroom and never had an issue opening them. It’s a bit slower reading and importing than my Sony files for some reason, but they’ve always opened. Have you tried Adobe camera raw?
By the way, did you know that Fuji made a program that lets you apply recipes to RAW files on your PC? Can’t remember the name right now, I don’t use it. It involves connecting your camera to the PC and the files gets processed by the camera. It’s a little weird.
@@Flexick No no it’s a program that Fuji makes, it’s on their website. It literally lets you apply/change the same settings as you can in camera and nothing else.
XPro2 + XF35mmF2, i have X100V and XPro3. But living in Indonesia with safety aspect, Xpro2 to go for me.. Got X100V when it launched, now people want to pay 1.5x the original price for secondhand one.. 😁
Nice. I'm curious, what's the safety aspect where you live? I know. It's crazy. Especially seeing as it's likely there'll be a new one out sooner rather than later!
I had one of the previous RX100s a few years back. I honestly can't remember why but I just didn't get on with it. Weird how that happens with certain cameras.
Yeah, it's something that's tempted me over the X100V. I just like my camera too much to switch it though!! Maybe a GR III could one day be an option if I had an X-E4 and a smaller lens as part of my overall kit... Are you enjoying it?
@@RickBebbington I am, honestly carry it every where and it produces great images. Because it's so small people pay you no mind so you really get some great candid photos. I ended up selling the x100V because I had an X-T5 which is very small if you pair it with a pancake lens i.e. the 18MM F2 . Not that much difference in size compared to the x100v.
Yea, too bad you can't actually buy one. Fuji should just end production and stop making this camera since they clearly have no idea what they are doing and are incapable of producing cameras.
@@robinbhairam7508 they are not available in the US and when they are, it’s price gouging for like $2k. I don’t know why Fuji is going to bother making a new one when they can’t even keep the current one in production
Not another x100v video🤣 I think they only appeal to people with GAS or Nikon and Canon users. As Sony a74 user could I justify buying this camera for the price of 3 compact primes? No. Are the images better? No.is the ergonomics better? No. So it all boils down to the optical viewfinder. Hard Pass.
You didn't have to watch it 😂Each to their own - I'm a Sony shooter and prefer using this. I find it much more inspiring camera to use than my Sony gear 🤷♂ as I said in the video, it's a totally different use case to the A7 series - who wants to carry that round with them all day every day?!
@@RickBebbington yes that’s the UA-camr regurgitated drizzle everyone says. The x100v is sooo inspiring 🙄 Your a74 and a single compact prime could serve the same purpose.
@@AStCG1989 Sorry for sharing my thoughts and them being different to yours. As I said, I don't want to carry round an a74 all day. I don't find Sony cameras as enjoyable. If that works for you then fine but it doesn't work for me
@@RickBebbington on a positive note. This was my first introduction to your channel and after watching a couple more videos I like your production quality and your overall delivery. I’m not criticising your channel I just cringe at x100v videos. Don’t take it personally.

What's your everyday camera??
XE4, same size as the x100v but interchangeable lenses 👌🏼👍🏼

I recently got the Sony a7C II (paired with a Samyang 24mm f2.8) and the body has some pretty decent "film simulations" similar to Fujifilm, called "creative looks" which I know some people would shake their head and say "real photographers never use those" 🙄.
Got to agree with you! I spent 40 years working in IT and the last thing I want to do now is sit in front of a computer editing photographs.
Maybe some people will say that real photographers edit their photos
How good are these “creative looks” in terms of giving pictures that pastel film camera retro look?
Thanks, so glad you like them! I think you're probably right, good choice :)
Another brilliant video Rick! Loved this one and can relate. I have started using my Nikon Zf with a prime and love it on walks with Pebbles.
Thanks Nige! It’s so liberating just having one camera/lens on you. Especially when you usually carry around as much as I do 😂
I have an original x100 love it but upgraded to the X100t absolutely loved it but killed it in a flash flood replaced it with the F wow fantastic kit.
Similarly, I’ve just bought the same (film) camera that my dad had when I was a kid (he died a long time ago) and have the same connection whenever I pick it up ❤️
@@RickBebbington cheers Rick what camera is it likewise I have a few film cameras dad used to use they are all great memories 📷📷📷
Hi Rick, I’m with you, I love my Fujifilm XT4 and all the simulations and “recipes” lol. They make shooting such fun. If it’s fun, you are going to do it. Thanks for another great video. ❤
Haha, don't 😂 They are a lot of fun, glad you like shooting on them. Thanks, means a lot :)
@@RickBebbington Glad to be an "inspiration" lol. I never knew that bit at 7:08 about changing to a Fuji film simulation from RAW in Lightroom!
@@paulmills9933 Haha!! Yeah, good innit?!
I still love my Nikon ❤
Thanks for this video.
Thanks! My journey was exactly the same. I keep threatening to get a Fuji again for the same reason!!
Thanks Chris, if it works and you love using it it sounds like a good camera to stick with!
The key with recipes is to pick a specific color one, and a black and white one for *at least a month*
That’s how you can lock in and create “your look”. I personally use a Portra recipe based off classic chrome for my people photos, a Velvia variant for landscapes, an Eterna one for night shots, and a Tri-X recipe based off Acros-Y for my black and white work.
I shot with an X100F for a couple of years Rick. Fabulous little camera that just lacked the lens for close up work when shot wide open
Most other stuff though, it was epic
Great video mate. Great photography 👍
Thanks Glen
I have just bought the X100s and I love it.
Thanks!! That's amazing for that price!
@@RickBebbington I know, it has no missing pixels on the screen It even came with a hand-knitted pouch. 🤣
They sound like great choices!
Sony a6300, just the 18-50 kit lens at the moment, it's in my possession most of the time...
I love my x100v… photography is my hobby.. it relaxes me from busy work schedule.. i just wish i had more free time
Thank you for a refreshing video and pointing out topics that are usually under the radar.

Great video and very true, sometimes I just not able to take the main camera out and wish I had a smaller one.
Thanks Bernard. Whilst obviously incredible (and smaller than they used to be), 'big' camera are still just that.
Thank you so much! It's still by far my most used camera.
Where have you been all my photography life! You get it!
How do you find the 70-300?
I can still shoot landscapes RAW and edit them if I want to.
absolutely fantastic video, everything
I'm in love with X-T5 and 23mm f2.....always in my hands
I used to have that lens when I had an X-T2 - loved it, great choice!
Very honest and good presentation of the Fuji X100V. 😊
I bought my used XE2 with a 27mm for exactly the same reasons. And yes - “recipes” has always sounded weird to me! 😂
That's a good shout, especially if I do decide to move back towards Fujifilm for my photography. Haha, so glad it's not just me!
My portable is a Canon G15. It's quite old but still capable, and I have yet to find something worthwhile to replace it.
No point replacing it if you don't need to 👍🏻
Lumix GX8. Huge view finder and many sharp lenses. Super light weight also.
My phone is my everyday camera - and it's not an amazing phone. I'm saving up for a decent camera as I'm sure I could get much better images from it, but there are so many things on the list above it. Think it's going to be a while! I make do with what I have though. Your videos are so inspiring.
Great video, thanks. I have an X100V and I'm a novice. Was wondering if you use the 50mm and 70mm functions.
I have a Ricoh gr3 that goes everywhere, even the pub , fits in a small pouch on my belt,
Love the GR3 been using one a couple of years ….
Spot on there Pal
Thank you Mr S!
Thanks for this vidéo. Did you gave up on your A to Z series?
I would say that yes: the best camera is not the one you have with you but the one you actually use.

The best everyday camera always is a mft camra. A 24-70 eqivalent lense is almost comically small on it at the pictures look great. I use a 14-140mm (28-280) lense and no camera on this planet could give me more joy than this combo if it comes to everyday shooting experience
suppose you need an everyday lens, which one you choose from 18mm, 24mm, 28mm, 35mm on a FX body?
Mine is the X100V I bought new in March 2021 😎
Good choice :)
What software are you using to open up the RAW files? My best friend left me his XT2 and I picked up a X100v used a while ago, I was always used Nikon and still do, I’m using Lightroom, Nikon RAW files open no problem, but my Fuji RAW files will not open.

I had one of the previous RX100s a few years back. I honestly can't remember why but I just didn't get on with it. Weird how that happens with certain cameras.
I just sold this camera. 😂 I like the Ricoh GR iii more as an EDC. Truly pocketable compared to the X100v

Not another x100v video🤣 I think they only appeal to people with GAS or Nikon and Canon users. As Sony a74 user could I justify buying this camera for the price of 3 compact primes?
