i had the same experience when i travelled to nz. I took the xh2s with the 16-55mm and the x100v. i took waaay more pictures on the x100. I took it everywhere with me. For example going to the coffee shop casually i wouldn't take the bulky xh2s, the x100 is super casual and from my experience thats when you get the most memorable images.
I love my X100V for all the reasons you said plus the custom film sims. I use to take my D750 with just a 50mm prime on holidays which worked out ok as well but the Fuji is much better and more fun to shoot. I have lost count of times people have asked me if it is an old film camera...lol
The last point is bang on - I prefer the feel of Nikon cameras, they're just a pleasure to use. Sony and Fuji are also nice, but I really dislike Canon cameras, I can't really say why. I loved the hour long USA epic Chris, thanks a lot!
I’m looking to get the Sony A7C II with Tamron 20-40 2.8. Maybe consider that set up? I also saw a video about changing the photos to panorama aspect ratio and dialing in colors to look more like “film”.
Nice video Chris. As a Sony user, and former Fujfilm owner, I do miss my X100v at times. I sold it when I changed all my Fuji gear, switching fully to Sony. However it was the last to go, but when I sold all my gear I also got a Leica Q2. Once I had that, the X100v just didn’t get used, but I do sometimes wish I still had it.
Thanks mate, always love your videos :) Ive become a sony a7iii and fuji x100f owner. I generally take the fuji out now unless i need bokeh or low light performance.
I took a trip to SF recently and I took my X100V over my XT-5, even though the XT-5 takes great photos, something about the X100V just makes the shooting experience much more enjoyable.
All the Sony points seem to be specific to the A7 IV, not Sony in general. You can get bodies with more silent shutters (or even fully silent if you go for the stacked models). You can get bodies with regular tilting screens... etc...
Thank you for sharing your experience. Obviously a full frame sensor will always give richer files compared with a crop but I found the Fuji do process a lot better with DX0 photolab, this software does close the gap a bit more, I wouldn’t recommend using it for hundreds and hundreds of images as it can be slower, and for that obviously Lightroom or C1 would be ideal, but if your going to single out an image to print a poster or crop in heavily its amazing the results you can get, DX0 Photolab has some secret sauce that improves the sharpness and cleans up the noise really well on Fuji files.
Big amens to your thoughts on simply buying the camera that feels best to you! Cameras are so flipping awesome these days, you pretty much couldn’t get a bad camera if you tried. :D It’s an amazing time to be shooting digital.
While I love my Sony a7iv, my Fuji x100F goes everywhere with me. The form factor makes it just a better camera to take everywhere. I love that I don’t have to edit the files for with uploading and sharing and the pop up flash is life for me. The Sony is just a bit more cumbersome to carry all day and the lenses are never small enough. I had similar issues with me a6400. The lenses were just bigger. I wish Sony would make an x100 competitor with a flash and great colors sooc
I still really REALLY hope they come out with a new RX1 kind of camera. I like the design of that camera so much I would even consider getting one for personal and wedding photography since I tend to have 35mm on one of my cameras all the time anyway. Imagine that: having an up to date RX1. If Sony started getting into film emulation SOOC, that would be mind-blowingly awesome! For the time being, I’m making do with my A7C and Lightroom =)
perfect video at the perfect time. Heading to South Africa next month and change my mind on a weekly basis on wether to bring the X100V or the A7IV with a prime.. maybe I'll bring both for this trip just to settle it once and for all what I'll bring for personal vacations... would love to see a video about making your own photo book for yourself as I want to do the same for this upcoming trip.
Fuji needs a Monochrome Version of the 100V with lenses that can be used manually with that “Leica-like” thumb knob. 28 or 35mm. It would sell like crazy.
I love my Fuji x100v, but I want to defend my Sony. Get the a1, put a C button on silent and you can shoot in absolute silence. Very useful in temples.
I'm looking for a camera with interchangable lenses to compliment my X100V... what would you go for? XT-5 or A7IV ? I'm leaning towards the XT-5.. but the RAW-files from that full frame sensor of the A7IV seems so nice..
Well the X100VI has arrived.. Will you make a video about that? I have pre-ordered from Photogear Auckland waiting for the call.. apparently there are a lot of people on the wait list
fuji Does video really well actually, especially if you pair it with the wide adapter, 28mm. classic chrome with some grading looks awesome, it's a bit shaky, but you can get by using a strap
It's hard to tell people to get the X100 series, because it's expensive, and loses when you compare the spec sheet. But we don't shoot spec sheets, and if you actually use the camera, I prefer the X100 any day~
Have you ever used the Leica Q2? Wondering what your thoughts are there. I left the XE4 for a Q2 but I miss Fuji. Thinking of selling to go to the 100V but unsure.
First off I want to say I’m on my third V I’ve owned . I do love the camera but having also owning 2 a7ivs i do get crazy fomo before leaving to go shoot recreationally. It’s awful . I’ve thought about maybe selling it and getting an a7cii but I’m afraid I’ll regret it lol
Get a Ricoh GRIII and you will keep ending up with it instead of the X100V Lol!! Well I did anyway. Especially if you set it up right. Set to manual but function button set to AE and metering to highlight protect. Then tweak exposure with front/back command dials controlling aperture and shutter. I'm the biggest Fuji fan boy. Have the XH2, X-T3 and GFX 100S. Used to have X100V but after using the GRIII I sold the X100V straight away.
Awesome insights! I was just wondering about this in my questions on your vlog and then you posted and answered it all here haha does the A74 and 24mm G fit in the Moment 2L sling?
Hey Chris! Great video as usual - the other reason I don't like taking the Sony to social events is that it looks too professional. So I'm looking at the Fuji as well =) Ps. What's the backpack you've got in the beginning of the vid?
I’ve managed to ruin wedding ceremony shots on silent shutter (on an A7C) due to rolling shutter. The shutter speed doesn’t even matter - the readout speed simply is the bottleneck regardless of shutter speed. I personally also kinda miss the haptical feedback of feeling the vibration in the camera body. Having a quiet shutter is cool, but I just don’t like silent shutter. :( I avoid it as much as I can.
@@ChrisTurnerPhotographerI just used my a7iv for a volleyball game. Gym had artificial lights. I used silent mode. It worked great. Not a single photo had issues. But o know what you’re talking about. It can happen but I have yet to have it happen to me with my a7iv
The GR is quite flawed since it's not weather sealed, which lets dust in to the sensor. And since you can't remove the lens to access the sensor to clean it you have to take the whole thing apart to get to the sensor. A huge pain.
@diabeticonboard6459 it’s just the nature of the camera. You have to be very careful in artificial light for banding and rolling shutter with fast moving stuff
X100VI will have much improved AF and Xh2s sensor, then will be worth buying. I had the X100f and loved it, infact had a couple and shot a fair few weddings on the combo with the lens adaptors, granted, they were slow-paced weddings so handled it all very well. I'm loving the new sensor in the XH2s so if they put that in the next-gen and improve the AF on par with XH2 and XH2s then great, I just hope they dont put the sensor from the Xh2 in it, not overjoyed with that one. Sony defo has the AF battle won, even over the Xh2s but dont regret getting rid of my A9II, well maybe a little, as nothing phased it, I just did NOT enjoy it.

My a7iii & the 35mm Zeiss 2.8 are a very small combo that get great results. When I use this same lens on my a6600, the setup is even smaller.

This trip could have been a good time to test the new a7c II especially comparing it the 100V. Would love to hear your thoughts on it.
Not for me. I’ve just never got on well with the A7C cameras for photo. Great for video. I just don’t like the form factor in my hands. Uncomfortable

Your vids are looking awesome mate, like this format
good video. what is this video filmed with? a7m4 + 24mm f2.5?

You could prob make it fit if there was no grip but it would be tight and nothing else would fit haha
"that bulky leather strap on" (05.28). Sorry, couldn't resist that. Great video, tho 😊
Great video, thanks! Have you ever tried the Leica Q2 or Q3 for comparison?
I haven’t but I think if I wanted to spend that much money I’d take the Q3 haha
This video makes wonder if the Sony A6700 or A7c II or A7cR with the compact G lenses not a better choice than the A7IV of X100V?
I’ve never liked the form factor. They make my hands uncomfortable. Great for video cameras
where is the leather strap from? (the one you use for the fuji)
I can’t remember honestly. I think it was just an eBay special
Nice.
Ok now do this video again with the x100vi 😅
Seriously considering selling my a7cii for the Fuji
Wish I could get my hands on one to do the video lol
Hey Chris! Great video as usual - the other reason I don't like taking the Sony to social events is that it looks too professional. So I'm looking at the Fuji as well =)
Ps. What's the backpack you've got in the beginning of the vid?
That’s the NYA-EVO 36. Such a sick bag. They sent me the big one and I loved it so much I bought the smaller one as well lol
what filter are you using on the x100v? CPL?
1/8 black mist
are you from New Zealand bro ?
Yeah mate
but what about point 1: x100v being silent? you have silent mode on the a7iv right? (even being more quiet)
Yeah but you can’t use it in artificial light or fast moving situations
I’ve managed to ruin wedding ceremony shots on silent shutter (on an A7C) due to rolling shutter. @justonbrazda3846 it’s not a fault. It’s the nature of the sensor. You got lucky, the lights must have been modern LEDs
Did you ever thought about getting the Ricoh GR? It would be even more compact than fuji x100.
Yeah I owned one for a while. Didn’t gel with it
The GR is quite flawed since it's not weather sealed, which lets dust in to the sensor. And since you can't remove the lens to access the sensor to clean it you have to take the whole thing apart to get to the sensor. A huge pain.
What filter is attached to the lens of your x100v?
For the trip I just had a clear filter. In this video it’s a 1/8 black mist which I usually have on it
The A7iv has a silent mode 😊
Yes but it’s dangerous in artificial light or fast moving situations
@@ChrisTurnerPhotographer that has not been my experience.
@diabeticonboard6459 it’s just the nature of the camera. You have to be very careful in artificial light for banding and rolling shutter with fast moving stuff
@@ChrisTurnerPhotographer Lol, i’m never careful with my cameras, Chris! Great video, by the way. Hang onto that x100V. You cannot get them anymore.
