    I’m actually impressed by how well Rannazzisi is handling the conversation. It’s such an uncomfortable and humiliating situation he put himself in, and he’s dealing pretty well with Howard talking about it to his face. I think most people would just wanna disappear forever after doing something like that.

      This is a really big psychological thing going on there. At first I was like WTF who douchebag would do that. But watching this interview, he's just a person that had/has deep social anxiety / emotional issues - like all of us. But his manifested in a strange way. He seems very honest here and trying to become a whole person. It's very interesting closer look to a fallen celeb personality, timely now with all these Louis CK and other guys with previously proper imagos but who have gotten caught with some dirty stuff

    i gotta admit, i didn't think there was _anything_ Rannazzisi could've said to make me _understand_ how/why he did this; but i think he's right about having only 15 seconds or so (4:40) to pull back on a lie before it's too late-even more so when the lie, intentionally or otherwise, invokes 9/11 sympathy.

    • @JaneDoe-zr4px
      @JaneDoe-zr4px 5 років тому +1

      agree totally. all he had to do is just not talk about it after he lied the first time. every time you're asked about it, simply say it's too upsetting to talk about and be done with it (who the fuck would pressure a 9/11 survivor to talk about their story if they say they don't want to). he did the opposite. several times over the years he discussed his fake story in DETAIL - that's the disturbing part. on marc maron's show, he went on and on. And remember, he didn't confess, he was busted, or about to be, that's why he did this apology tour. if not for the Times article., he'd still be going around telling his fake ass tales. Sick stuff. also totally likely that his tv show FORCED him to do Stern as a condition of keeping his job.

    Such a bizarre thing to lie about. Everyone old enough to remember, knows exactly where they were that moment the twin towers were attacked. I was stuck in Las Vegas. I watched the towers fall on a crummy tv from our ruddy room at the Fitzgerald. I remember meeting a sweet older couple in the elevator that morning who told me they we’re anxiously waiting for their son to reach them since he worked in tower 1 on like the 100th floor. I think about that couple over the years wondering if their son made it out safely. They eventually rented a car to make the 2,000 mile drive back to NY in the hopes they would be reunited with their son 😢.

    As someone with codependency issues I know exactly what he’s talking about. He describes it perfectly basically. It’s not really a conscious thing. There is no reasoning behind it. It’s no different than getting angry and doing something stupid.
    Codependents are trained to respond a certain way in social situations usually by abusers.

    i hate hearing him say over and over this is not him and not what defines him. But it is him because he DID do this. He had no problem going public and bragging about what a hero he was, but couldn't figure out how to come clean in public....until he got caught? He is a horrible person and I'm sure he wants to "move on" but he told this lie for a long time and he doesn't get to decide it's not an issue anymore. I wasn't in NYC on 9/11 but I was in OKC on 4/19/95 at 9AM and this guy is like a one of those yahoos who walk around in uniform stealing valor from our honorable military veterans. I think Stern was very fair and appropriate in the way he did the interview.

      +Trend101Warrior I do adore the way you baited him and then unleashed hell on him with all those amazing points to further drive home that opinion you have. Be honest with me you live for this and the bickering between people an the comments its empowering to think you have smashed someone right>? I bet you came back many times an edited the comment checking it over an over saying how dare he contest me an what i think. So what do you think should happen after all of this should he have his bank account stripped an then ran out of town or should we stone him>? I mean like you said he lied for personal gain and then had many chances to come clean yet ignored them an kept the lie going for many years.

    I’ve never known him as the comedian from 9/11 and I don’t believe anyone else did either. I think he told the lie to few people in the beginning and then it spread to a few other people and yes, it got worse when he was asked about it on podcasts and by other interviewers and stuck to it but he was in defense mode in regards to his career. Yes it was it a bad thing to do but is it truly an unforgivable act.

    I give this guy a lot of credit for what he did. There is a documentary called The Woman Who Wasn't There about the woman who made up being in the Twin Towers and was so deluded she became the board president of The Survivor's Network. That is a sick person. She is in hiding and refuses to talk to the media. Let he who is without sin cast the first stone. This guy is all class in my book.
