One of the most honest interviews of that time and era. Stern broke the line of what people were forced to hear and created "reality" exploitationism. Had he known and been able to copyright such ideals during that time, he would've retired in the late '90s. Thank you, Artie Lange for your comments on Dr. Drew.
“Where’s Michelle Marsh?” Whenever Howard is on the news getting interviewed, he makes it so informal, and gets a rise out of everyone. True comedic genius!
Howard Stern's a genius. How many people can have a $100 million salary for working 4 days a week, 4 hours a day and all their work requires is talking among your buddies about anything you want. GENIUS!
Of course its not that easy. Howard has to see a therapist almost everyday. being in the public eye, is no easy task, and being a perfectionist, and all that other muck plays on your brain. Now in 2019 Howard seems to have been sliding away, perhaps its age or perhaps he does not want to be remembered for the days when everyone feared being near him, because he certainly knew he was not all that when it came to looks and was not afraid to say it, so he let the people with the looks know that although you may be beautiful or handsome, you are not getting out of my studio with the same life you walked in here with, yes he brought tears to the eyes of many guests on his show, and they in turn hated him, now he is trying to make amends, before the good Lord says its time to say goodbye, not good radio anymore, though true fans will always be in Stern's corner, it was not about him, just the show. He seems to have forgotten all of that. it was the Howard Stern SHOW.
Genius? Splitting atoms is genius. Building a suspension bridge is genius. He talks about farts, poop, midgets, and hookers. So do me and my buddies. I guess we're geniuses. Stern just had guts, that's all. But lets reserve the term genius for real geniuses.
Howard is incredibly articulate and the man is one of the best interviewers and interviewees I’ve ever heard. The man just brings in ratings. No one can deny it.
In the middle of 1981, I was living in Wash DC and Howard came to town, from Detroit. Robin was there and I talked to Howard on the phone ! DC101 was the call sign. Howard was talking about sex and I said to him, "I thought the Sexual Revolution only existed on the cover of Time and Newsweek" He stole that and he rambled on. I never said bye. side note: I thought Robin was white. Never saw a picture for months.
Well, they kind of broke him now. He sold out ---- and became Imus (which is the very thing he used to hate/fight against). He's no longer counterculture...he's full-on establishment. He's the mainstream that he used to prod against. PC Howard? No thanks. It's kind of sad, really. But, it'll never take away from what he was in his prime. That's for certain.
Wow I had no idea jackie was with him in 1984. "want to talk strange - your hair is orange" ROFL!!!!! at 3:20 you can literally see him zone in on his hair
I remember first hearing Howard on WNBC in the early 80s. He was on pm drive. I picked him up again in DC on WJFK and followed him til he went to Sirius and couldn't afford it. I have his Crucified by the FCC, Butt Bongo Fiesta, watched his channel 9 and E shows. He has made me laugh thru some pretty tough times. Thanks, Howard!!
Like 3-5 years after this clip he became the biggest radio show host probably in the history of the US. His ratings now dont even remotely compare to what it was in the 2 decades after this interview lol. I'm sure wnbc has already had 2 decades of regretting this decision if they even exist anymore.
Howard is very witty and funny. He is crude at times, but just for fun. People need to learn how to take a joke. When it comes down to serious topics, he is genuinely out to help people. He really is a good person. Robin too.

Greatest interview ever. This guy gets it. Both of these are equally intelligent, smart, quick witted and intelligently sarcastic as F. Even more, they played the game, against the game, and kept their jobs. Shout out to Queen Robin!
Shawn Evans They matter because Howard Stern is very entertaining. That radio network fired a valuable employee. Look at Howard now.. He's back and better than ever, you fucking idiot. You must be someone who can't hold a conversation. I imagine you're a single gay male. Watch the video again to see why I said that. You sad sad little girl.
Forde G I'm an idiot because I don't find Howard entertaining and nor do I care that he has a net worth of 500 million dollars? LOL You, obviously couldn't hold a conversation. Not me. And I'll tell you why. When I simply asked why it matters about Howard's net worth, your answer was because he's entertaining. Okay... but that still doesn't tell me why it matters about how much money the guy has. Also, you assume that someone who doesn't agree with you must not be able to hold a conversation. Also, why? I don't think there's any evidence there that tells whether or not I'm good conversation material. I just didn't agree with your post, and I asked a simple question. You also assume that I must be gay because of this. Once again, it's simple, gay people go for other gay people, straight people for straight people. Has nothing to do with this conversation. There's nothing wrong with having a difference of opinion, and that's what makes conversations interesting sometimes. But, the way I see it, your conversations would be boring, because people would have to agree with you and kiss your ass. Because God forbid, someone not agreeing with you and questioning what you say. Oh, and nice 4th grade style comeback of calling someone gay and then calling them a little a girl. Next time someone asks you a question, try taking time to articulate what your thinking, or why it matters that you wrote it in the first place. Because if you don't, you'll just continue to come across as a negative narrow-minded loner.
true for nearly EVERYONE ever. referring to movies alone, check out the directing skills of both George Lucas, and most startlingly, M. Night Shyamalan. compare his writing and directing in "The Sixth Sense" and "The Last Airbender". it's _exactly_ like two different people, man.
***** His material was fresh and he was more outrageous than he is today. Through its promotion of violence and tastelessness, the media has desensitized us. We were much better off thirty years ago than we are today...
Honestly, a true genuis. He was in his 30's during this interview and dominated. There's a lot to be learned about ineffective management in this clip.
This video is an embarassment to NBC, and it should be. Light bulbs and entertainment are two very different businesses. MBA sophistry dictates that profits unite all businesses, but this should be a biz school case study. Worldwide Pants, Inc.😅
I remember when he left WNBC- my mother turned me onto his show and it was freaking hilarious- incredible sketches, great instincts all around. He was too good for mainstream radio. Made Imus look like a tool.
The station’s management eventually made the calculation that the potential consequence of being associated with his controversial comments outweighed the benefit of continuing to run his show. Perhaps they were being pressured by some influential advertisers behind the scenes, or were worried that he would eventually say something on air that would lead to a sudden mass exodus of sponsors. 1984 was a fairly socially conservative time, so in my opinion, it would not have been unreasonable for them to have such concerns at that moment, knowing only what they knew then.
I really hope Howard can bounce back from this.

jetliFAN 3 days a week lol! wish it was 4.
Ill say anything about him thanks for the invite to say something. Hes dumb as a sack of nails.did i do good?
This mustard yellow jacket is better than the mustache and thick rimmed glasses combo he used to wear. Bubba Booey!
wow. he was making $200k a year in 1984?
That's like 500k in today's money, pretty amazing
Im still being paid in wooden nickels in 2019 😡
@@Kevin01SH That's More Than A Million in Today's Money. House were $120,000 in San Diego then
gets $80 million a year nowadays
This guy interviewing is GREAT, Howard is relentless and this guy handles him so well. Almost as well as Letterman
This interviewer is very good Letterman in my opinion is pathetic
I think this guy’s dad is on Sirius.
Haha.
Funny how now Howard is a legend and I have no idea who these people interviewing him are.
Before your time, and this was on NYC local CBS affiliate. WCBS CH 2.
I love howard stern, he's a true genius it's undeniable.
Just because you like aaron
Howard is incredibly articulate and the man is one of the best interviewers and interviewees I’ve ever heard. The man just brings in ratings. No one can deny it.
Your delusional. Remember Momma Lukaboobooday? Absolutely racist.
"You want to talk strange, what about your hair - it’s orange" (3:24) What a great conversational shift.
The funniest thing I ever heard in this interview and I saw this video about 7-8 years ago 🤣
Never saw a picture for months.
they couldnt break stern hes a fucking BOSSSSS!
+boredXsomethingXIDK and hows your career going?
divzerr r The chicken business is going pretty well..
How about you?
boredXsomethingXIDK my import business is going amazing. Thanks.
Marci Turk is the boss
Wow I had no idea jackie was with him in 1984. "want to talk strange - your hair is orange" ROFL!!!!! at 3:20 you can literally see him zone in on his hair
he looks older in 1984 than 2016 lol
Bruno Castro plastic surgery
He looked much better in 1984. I was shocked to find that he ever was not completely disgusting. Still ugly, but not the freak show he is now.
everyone looked older in the 80s. lol.
My mom is the most wholesome lady and she loved Howard Stern, when he went to Sirius , she demanded that we buy her Sirius radio lol
I'm very impressed with his loyalty to Robin 👌
Looks like imus then and woke now
I remember first hearing Howard on WNBC in the early 80s.
He’s rockin those 80’s lady shoulder pads in this video 😂😂😂.
Sounds like those who run those media businesses are "I'll decide what the listeners listen to not what they want"
They adhere to what the advertisers want, not what the listeners want.
Howard Stern has huge ratings today; the WNBC president probably regrets firing him.
Like 3-5 years after this clip he became the biggest radio show host probably in the history of the US. His ratings now dont even remotely compare to what it was in the 2 decades after this interview lol. I'm sure wnbc has already had 2 decades of regretting this decision if they even exist anymore.
Dare I say, Howard looks a bit handsome here?
Lol, yea, he actually does.
I know! He looks like Harrison Ford here too
Nick Jasper 80s nerd... 2017 hipster
He is handsome
Vulgarity begins with those shoulder pads.
He looked like Frankenstein with a wig on.The shoulder pads on that mustard colored jacket were ridiculous.
Mac Harper Herman Munster with a wig.
Welcome to the 80s
What year was this.
He's a comedian and an entertainer. He has an audience. He pushes buttons, but many comedians do it all the time.
He actually turned into this program the last decade
Howard is very witty and funny. He is crude at times, but just for fun. People need to learn how to take a joke. When it comes down to serious topics, he is genuinely out to help people. He really is a good person. Robin too.
LOL it does say "Jew" in the URL
Who the f*** reads URL's ????
lol good observation!!!
Lol
Ol' Jew G who's just sayin'.
whos js?
Poor Howard would have been blacklisted for these comments today. His career would be over before you could say me too
That’s what’s wrong with the world nowadays
This Howard would be digusted on the Howard of now...
Howard Stern in terms of personality, humor, and legacy is better than Joe Rogan.
True! Howard is an absolute legend. Joe is a just a Podcaster.
@@voxpopuli735you do realize stern was podcasting before podcasting was even a thing? He was the original podcaster.
There is no comparison. I’d watch Howard read a menu.
I hate seeing a mans career ending like this
The man is self made. 100% hustle this guy
WNBC was so full of shit. Howard was the best thing for them, and when they fired him, it screwed them.enough said.
“Ethnic and racial attacks” 😂😂😂. They’re not specific. They vaguely accuse a Jewish man of what?
Damn I just realized stern was the first anti SJW of all time. LEGEND!!!
He’s done a 180 on that shit
Then he became the biggest one of all
@@uba51 you white racists wanna get your ass beat? I’ve been putting Republicans in the hospital for years!!!!
Steve What are you taking about, keyboard warrior?
@@4gegtyreeyuyeddffvyt cool story bro. Hilarious that my comment was deleted the first go around. Tough guy, can you even afford to come to Texas to fail at putting me in the hospital?you wouldn't lasr 30 seconds against me in real life lil boy.
I listened to him every morning in the nineties on the school bus. All he did was make me laugh.
And E tv every night love him
Good DAMN those Miami Vice shoulder pads look ridiculous as fuck, especially on someone with a long turkey neck like Stern's.
How many of these "anchors" are still working and worth even half of what Howard is?
$200K a year salary, damn thats a bargain. This exchange is really good though.
Last time I listened to his show was back in May of 1999 when I was out in Denver CO. His show was on a local radio station from 5am till 9am, I believe, anyways I loved listening to him for the 2 weeks I was out there.
Greatest interview ever. This guy gets it. Both of these are equally intelligent, smart, quick witted and intelligently sarcastic as F. Even more, they played the game, against the game, and kept their jobs. Shout out to Queen Robin!
Howard Stern is worth 500 million dollars, that's more than Simon Fucking Cowell!!
And either one of their net worth's matter, why?
Shawn Evans They matter because Howard Stern is very entertaining. That radio network fired a valuable employee. Look at Howard now.. He's back and better than ever, you fucking idiot. You must be someone who can't hold a conversation. I imagine you're a single gay male. Watch the video again to see why I said that. You sad sad little girl.
Forde G
I was with you till the single gay male part. Wrong tack, Dude, and poor attempt to be shocking so you could appear to be like Howard.
Forde G I'm an idiot because I don't find Howard entertaining and nor do I care that he has a net worth of 500 million dollars? LOL
You, obviously couldn't hold a conversation.
Because if you don't, you'll just continue to come across as a negative narrow-minded loner.
daleva187goligo yes he has. He was a friend of the show.
Howard was much funnier before he became super rich.
true for nearly EVERYONE ever. referring to movies alone, check out the directing skills of both George Lucas, and most startlingly, M. Night Shyamalan. compare his writing and directing in "The Sixth Sense" and "The Last Airbender". it's _exactly_ like two different people, man.
***** How are you so sure it's the money?
***** His material was fresh and he was more outrageous than he is today. Through its promotion of violence and tastelessness, the media has desensitized us. We were much better off thirty years ago than we are today...
That's what happens, when you try to slant the interview in a certain direction, Howard's going slap your nipples every time!
Back when howard was quick witted and rapid fire... He could shut anyone down. Today's howard not so much.
Miss the old days of Stern.
Clearly dont listen anymore then. This statement is ridiculously false.
He looked like a creep with that mustache
My faviorate look of Howard was in his 80s.
What moustache.
He looked like Weird Al 😂😂😂
Honestly, a true genuis. He was in his 30's during this interview and dominated. There's a lot to be learned about ineffective management in this clip.
Not a fan whatsoever, but nobody can deny Stern is a extremely smart and talented guy
This video is an embarassment to NBC, and it should be. Light bulbs and entertainment are two very different businesses. MBA sophistry dictates that profits unite all businesses, but this should be a biz school case study. Worldwide Pants, Inc.😅
What year was he fired?
wow...he used to look like a jewish jeffrey dahmer.
That’s funny
He is
I remember when he left WNBC- my mother turned me onto his show and it was freaking hilarious- incredible sketches, great instincts all around. He was too good for mainstream radio. Made Imus look like a tool.
Well it was a pretty easy job then yeah? Bc Imus IS A TOOL LOL.
I'm so glad this video is being picked up again in the "recommend". ICON.
This guy should do his own radio show.
He threw him off when he made fun of his hair
Yeah dude was rattled, hard to interview Stern but that literally stopped him dead in his tracks.
@Corby Dipsen Why?
Howard Stern was definitely way ahead of his time. I love him for being so authentic and genuine and always keeping it real!
Not anymore
what makes him so good is he says what everyone thinks but are afraid to say it
Bottom line:WNBC was a family friendly station & Stern's show was inappropriate as far as management was concerned.
So he ended up on K rock a few months later, right?
This is like seeing somebody from the 1900 and another from 2000
