If you're wanting to go really fast, you can put a 5 inch pulley on the Transaxle and if you have a friend who can rework the lower pulley that you removed from the engine You should be able to get 40+ mph out of it.
Where did you buy that replacement pulley from? I used to have the same mower but could never find a bigger pulley so I sold it. Looking at a john deere sabre right now that the guy only wants 130 for
No we just tinker around some rear one can't be changed. Checkout this guy he has some good info on this and was who we watched before trying ours. ua-cam.com/video/pk34jusEJbA/v-deo.html
It's not a single belt. It's 2 belts and the center pulley is your clutch as well as your variable speed drive. Without it you would ONLY have one speed and it would be full blast. Also no clutch or way to stop without that center pulley system
+mr.random videos on the MTD it is a little challenge to change the back pulley but we wish we would have went bigger in the front but that was all they had in stock at the time and it was his first one. He did try the locking diff but that didn't fair so well he actually busted it a few weeks ago so had to swap everything over to another mower check it out ua-cam.com/video/4glJxSGJW4A/v-deo.html and thanks for watching as we say lessons learned and each one is getting better. Just picked up a sears hydro trac 14 working on getting that going now.
+Asah Pakome Thanks for watching... yes it sped it up to about 10mph. This is why an MTD mower is not really the best option. The gear ratios in these trans axles are really high. but if you can swap the back pulley to a smaller one or go bigger on front you will get more speed as well.
+nick the stick 88 only about 10 mph not much of an improvement but like +Robbie Dobbie says below if we changed to a smaller in back it would go way faster. This model is not great for swapping the shifter and some things underneath get in the way of the belt if you don't choose the right size pulley. Stay tuned for the Murray upgrade we found have the motor running and the front rear pulleys swapped. Son is working on a clutch and brake now and it should move!
thankyou so much i did the same thing and now i dont have to do trial and error for the right belt now i know its a 55". thanks!

I also have a mtd with a variator like you but mine whines like hell i think it is the belt thats too short what do you think?
Use a 3" pulley on the trans axle, then you will fly!
If you want to go 40 mph put a huge pulley on the engine and like a 3 or 4 inch pulley on the trans
Any ideas on swapping the transaxle pulley

For the engine how were you able to line it up perfect to the rear transaxle.pulkey.
Just put the pulley up as far as it goes ???

how did the gaurd come off of the top pulley?
How can I find a smaller pully for my transmission? My current one is 1A6460-25840
put a 6-9 inch pulley on the front and a 2.5 on the transaxle an lock the diff an ull have one fast mower

does this belt change make it faster

How much pulling/ torque do you lose
Make a spacer and put the bolt on the bottom
Or you might keep losing the pully
What exact belt did you use
55"
What size shaft is on the motor??
betactical 1”
What’s the diameter of the shaft?
1 inch.
how fast does it go
