This is far better than any Disney version. It's surreal, a piece of real art.
Ouch.
stfu dude
It is called “Magic Realism”

@@gandalfthegrey2592 lol are we butthurt over movie preferences now?
I originally saw this marvelous movie in my high school French class. I have loved the tale of beauty and the beast ever since. My fave version.
The first and inspiring moovie of La Belle et La Bête. Pure creation of a poet.
I think this haunting masterpiece is one of the two most sublime, profound and beautiful black and white films ever made, along with "Night Of The Hunter" - 1955.
YES! I totally agree! Both of those are on my favorites
absolutely agree about these two films.
Four more b/w cinematic gems are,
Sunrise - 1927
The Crowd - 1928
Sunset Boulevard - 1950
Paths Of Glory - 1957
@@michaelbruns449 Thank you for this list - I have seen Sunrise, and Sunset Boulevard is indeed a masterpiece. I must look up the other two.
@@mlrmlr4919 kool, def do so. The Crowd by King Vidor is a profound movie, devastating and beautiful and Paths Of Glory, by Stanley Kubrick is intense and unforgettable.
I have the DVD of this version and loved every minute, the "Beast" is fascinating and Belle is perfectly paired with him. At the end I wanted the beast to stay as himself, and not change into a handsome prince.
absolutely brilliant film, beautiful in every way. True cinema, I'd say.
Get the Criterion version.
Me too!
Beastiality
One of my fave films ever!!!
Disney who? this is the Beauty and the beast version everyone has to watch
yup, pure beauty this film.
Hey i enjoy that version (the animated one, not the half assed live action remake attempt to remake the 1991 film) and also enjoy this one and the 1987 to 1990 series with Ron Perlman and Linda Hamilton as i'm a fan of human X creature person relationships
Johnlindsey289 I love the live action remake! It was very well done in my opinion, keeping in mind it’s a newer adaption of the 1991 version.
eduardo ramirez Ouch!
well disney created their version of beauty and the beast more for children. the grim fairytales aren’t rly for children. this one is art but disney’s is also a piece of art.
I watched the Criterion release of this film two days ago, was mildly impressed with the image, disappointed by the sound, and thought, "The BFI should consider restoring this film."
I'm ordering their 2018 restoration immediately. Thank you, BFI!
A beautiful adaption to the classic fairy tale, both sureal and gorgeous to look at.
Did you know that all of the interior shots of belle's house are designed to look like a Vermeer painting? That was half the budget. Also, the evil sisters and "ugly" sisters were actually beautiful actresses who were directed into acting ugly - despite makeup that enhanced their beauty. This is a masterpiece. As a French speaking person - my first language as a child - I wish other people could hear the brilliant articulation of the sisters. They sound like movie stars of old - but their words make them sound ugly and shallow. Imagine watching FARGO and not being an American born person. You would miss the Dakota accent - and a lot would be lost, don't you think? Fargo - another masterpiece.
Great movie, saw this on video when i was 12 after hearing about it in magazines and movie books and it with Cronos (the vampire film from Mexico) and Hard Boiled were the first nondubbed foreign films i ever saw and enjoyed them. What can i say, i'm a huge sci-fi and fantasy nerd growing up since 4.
This beast scared me a lot when I was a kid.
I was scared even more by the eyes following Belle everywhere.
@@LizzieJaneBennet It's not like in the 2017 version where Beast looks like a cute puppy hah
Breathtaking ❤
WHAT IS THE NAME OF THE SONG ON THIS TRAILER??? It is NOT Georges Auric!!!!
Isaiah Galarza here it is :) soundcloud.com/amotz_playlist/journey-to-the-golden-ark
Nothing quite like it, before or since. And every attempt to replicate it will never quite hit the mark.
Qu'est-ce qu'il etait magnifique Jean Marais.
Wow, this is classic, I wanna watch it.
Looks gorgeous ❤
¡Ya la tengo en formato físico! 😆👏👏👏 Me encanta
Need to see this.
Un film que l'on ne présente plus !
This looks amazing
I love this movie so much!
Another bump for the correct song artist/name please. Is it Georges Auric?
magnifique Jean Mariais
Step aside Disney Belle. Josette Day's looks truly have no parallel!
Cocteau was the director this "chef d'oeuvre" ,a french poet, this movie was made just after the terrible second world war , the resilience
Back when true talent in special effects & make up reigned, not all of this CGI stuff they going on now.
To be sure there were great special effects artists and technicians back then and their work is often unsurpassed, but there is a lot of beauty and great art in modern CGI too.
Magical ❤ will now buy
cocteau was a genius

I don't get it "coming soon"?!! It's already out there was a long time and everyone could guess this trailer was made not in the 1940s but in the 2010s!
Largo The Creeper its remastered obviously
Stefan Lundin it's not remastered but it's made by this idiot.
Largo The Creeper oh I hate it when people do that
Building up expectations
Largo The Creeper still if a remastered version came out I'd buy it

🟦⬜🟥 France 👑🏰⛪ Salut ! C’est une dame française Jeanne-Marie Leprince de Beaumont qui a écrit le conte 🌹La belle et la bête 🐻 au 18 ème siècle.
Mai 2024
J’taime la belle est la béte.
It's to dark you can't see a thing.
So primitive.
'It's so sharp you won't feel a thing'
This actress looked too old to play belle
Cancel beauty & the beast it is offensive to ugly men!
Must be a joke, surely the beast is deliberately made very sexy and attractive, the 'handsome' prince is a great let-down!
disney should learn on this with not change the fairytale with use things like race, i dont care with pocahontas or aladin got change by dark people cuz they are a little bit dark in original story but not with prince frog and little mermaid, i would never watch their new adaptation with dark little mermaid & Tania & frog, its enaugh to see little mermaid got ruin with stupid happy ending that she should sacrefice her life for love now they even change the race , feels like watching chun li adaptation playing by white people
