    I love how you can hear their relationship change in how they speak. If you know Regency language, you can hear how it becomes more intimate. It's done so beautifully.

      That's interesting, can you give an example??

    • @merrygray2791

      @@dwrae62 You can hear it best in their tone. Regency language is formal anyway, just in word choice, but take the first conversation about dancing and how their tones are controlled, calm, and respectful. And then juxtapose it to when she gets caught in his house and he follows her outside. They kind of float between both. "I'm in Devonshire with my aunt and uncle." "Are you having a pleasant trip?" and then "I'm so sorry to intrude...." and so on. They're getting more comfortable with each other and they have a relationship that hasn't actually been identified yet. And then the final scene in the field. They're completely at ease with each other, "peak intimacy" if you will. The formality is pretty much gone, they still respect each other but they speak as best friends, as lovers. They've silently acknowledged their connection and then they acknowledge it aloud. It's so interesting to watch!

      Eh not really, don't forget that we are not reading about or looking at regular people, these are members of really the affluent landed gentry , the only thing distingushing them from the aristocracy is the lack of a title. Other than that I agree :)

    • @johannafeminist1745
      @johannafeminist1745 5 місяців тому +20

      In fact, refined vocabulary is the refined speech of Jane Austen and screenwriters. Most people of those times expressed themselves like most modern people - sparingly, boringly, chaotically, sometimes absurdly like Collins, Bingley, Mrs. Bennet, Mr. Bennet, Lydia, Kitty, Mary, Lady Catherine and others, which offends the ears of adequate people.
      When I look at Bingley or anyone else who can't put three words together in one sentence, I feel sad and lonely. Because people have not changed, men for the most part remain mediocre.

      In many literature discussions it is agreed that Jane Austen indeed wrote the ultimate romantic plot: girl and boy meet, there is instant connection, however this is misinterpreted in some way or another which leads to mutual negative regard, circumstances will not let them avoid each other so they get to know each other better, and find out they are a perfect match (and live happily ever after😉).

    The progression of Darcy's attraction from the time he laid eyes on lizzy to the time he is totally and undeniably bewitched by her is so satisfying to watch over and over. His resistance to fall for her and lizzy's biting remarks to put him in his place both contributed to the interplay of emotions leading to mutual desire. Once invested to win lizzy, Darcy immediately rectified his "reputation and good standing" in lizzy's perception thus Darcy assisted in Lydia's maariage to wickham and Bingley's proposal to Jane. These were not missed by Lizzy's keen eye and assessment. From the moment Darcy first proposed to her, Lizzy became aware of every detail Darcy does. She even saw clearly how Darcy felt when she visited Pemberly with her aunt and uncle. The early morning scene right after Lady Catherine De Bourgh called on Lizzy, both were not able to sleep. I wish they have also officially added in the US version epilogue - the scene after marriage and they were in pemberly. Darcy was calling her Mrs. Darcy and lizzy told him to call her that only when he is “completely, perfectly, and incandescently happy.” Which he then proceeds to call her repeatedly so whilst kissing parts of her face. Actually, I liked goddess divine on regular days lol.

      @@Dustandfuzz we all know our own flaws (well self aware people do anyway) and we all know the faults of our family members but we love them anyway. I think she was insulted (rightfully so) about his observations of her family and his callous behavior towards them and her. He lacked the full understanding and story, and made many of his decisions off the cuff pompously. She was also not shy to hold that observation back from him either and I believe that really was a catalyst for change in each of them. Later he realized how gravely mistaken he was about so many things, as was she after meeting his aunt and sees how prejudiced she is too, and he was still smitten with and bewitched by her that he now could overlook her and her family’s faults and love them all too.

    There is no comparison to past versions. The soundtrack and beautiful cinematography put this one in a category far beyond, not to mention how every actor nails their character. Other versions are cold and stale in comparison. They dont have the passion or the chemistry. They're too wordy. That's great for a book, but a movie has the advantage of sight, you don't need as much. They took a great book and turned it into the perfect experience for the senses. You can't help truly falling in love along with Lizzy and Mr. Darcy. I agree, it is my all-time favorite movie!

    For me, the greatest part of my adoration of this particular rendition of the story springs from the deep feeling the two spoke to each other with their eyes. Both actors have extremely expressive eyes and I have wondered if that is one of the many reasons they were chosen for these roles. I do adore Colin Firth as an actor, but, this version is my personal favourite.

    Other than that amazing walk in the meadow, my fave scene is always when they’re talking with the sister and lowkey flirting and the sister smiles up at the brother like “YUP I SAW THAT BROTHER!!” 😂😂😂 Love this adaption! The series is my fave but this is such a comfort movie!

    • @user-ed7et3pb4o
      @user-ed7et3pb4o 9 місяців тому +28

      Haha yes I love the scenes with Georgiana. It’s like the only time his guard is down like that and he’s so at ease and so obviously in love. And of course his sister can tell. It’s just adorable. They’re both so hopeful and so attracted to each other. It’s the first time it’s mutual and they’re actually on the same page understanding each other after the proposal disaster. It’s also kind of the first time they’re on an equal footing? Darcy meets her family from the start. He’s seen her home, he KNOWS her, which is why he fell in love with her. But she’d never had the same insight into him. She’d never met his family or seen his home, she hadn’t seen him with his guard down like that. Even when he proposed to her the first time, he kept her at a distance. But at Pemberley it’s almost like they can start from scratch and do things properly.

But I watched it today and I'd say this has become one of my favourite movies. I hate cheesy lines and unreal confidence in a man, this was so pure and real. I dont have enough words to express myself I am not that good at it too. Also like Mr Darcy I am unable to engage in a communication with people i dont know. I am a social person but at the same time i just want to be with my closest friends and family members and most of the times alone. Also he's lucky to have find the perfect women for himself.

    unpopular opinion: I just finished the book, and watching the 1995 BBC series version. I love how Darcy and Elisabeth are played in this version (I think much closer to the book personalities than the tv series), however the script is way too quick in the movie version. They blended sections to make it all fit and added unnecessary statements to try to make it flow better, but it almost takes key contexts out of the narrative. I like the movie, and wish I could love it more.

While Greer Garson and Laurence Olivier just fill the screen, MacFayden and Knightly do a wonderful job with these characters.
