      You fool, you fell victim to one of the classic blunders! Neither card draws air in nor do they pull air out of that spot, if you take a look inside from pictures online for example, you can see how the fan guide blocks off any flow from that spot making it useless for cooling. Unless the baseplate can get heat traveled to that spot thouhg that doesnt seem to happen.

    @Optimum Tech great video thank you and I am a first time watcher and this video got a sub from me.
    I was impressed where these new AMD cards are willing to run at for clock speeds hitting over 2GHz is very good for a Radeon card. I have a Vega56 flashed to Vega 64 bios for the extra voltage for the memory and extra OC room after the flash. I used ot be impressed with my Vega because of it being able to hit around 1810MHz on peaks and sustain around 1755-1790MHZ and memory peaking out at 1150MHz for the HBM2 I run it at 1075MHz now. These new RX 5700 cards do this and more all the while using less power.
    When I seen where a stock Vega 56 sits in the bench marks I just kinda snicker and looked over at my Vega 56/64 card in the system and go you better never go that low or it's the side walk for you dude...lol I swear I hear a small wimper and get a slight FPS increase for a few seconds after saying that...lol all kidding aside great video and I am now a subscriber to your channel...thank you.
    Edited:
    About the coolers one way to look at it is this. A blower cooler might be louder but at the same time it is also dumping all of that hot air out the back of the system case. A cooler such as the one on the RTX cards and any other card that has dual or triple fans just dumps all of that hot air inside the case which heats up everything else including the CPU cooler which makes the CPU run hotter as well. Which cooler do I prefer the dual or triple fans ones of coarse they are quieter. If I could not get good air movement in my case I would take the louder blower cooler any day though since 85% of the heat built up while the system is running is removed for you by the blower cooler. On my own system my card has dual fans and tries to dump the hot air into my case but I made it so it now dumps it out the side of the case which dropped temps by a huge amount in the case so I get the best of both worlds I guess.

    As of 22.7.1, best driver settings:
    1. Set Core Clock to 2000 MHz
    2. Set Voltage to 1.111V. Navi voltages works in 0.006V increments. Setting 1.106-1.112 sets 1.112. Sometimes the driver is iffy and 1.112 might jump to 1.118. That's why 1.111V is best.
    3. Memory: Mostly ... DON'T touch it. RDNA1 is weird and AMD chose to use a mix of memory modules AT THE SAME TIME on the same board with different timings (Samsung + Hynix for example). Memory OC is extremely unstable. You can usually do 1840 MHz, but IT WILL crash eventually.
    4. For temps, you only need to worry about TJunction. Officially, RDNA1 is rated to Thermal Throttle past 115C on the TJ. In my experience, the card starts misbehaving at 108C on the TJ. So keep that in mind.
    5. Power Limit is mostly pointless. RDNA1 (or 5700 XT anyway) is not Power Limited. It's Thermal Limited. You'll never hit Power Limits using the 1.2V max default. Power Limits are only useful when using MorePowerTools to unlock core clock and voltage limits.
    Fan: Set it manually to whatever you're comfortable with. Most 5700 XT have FanStop up to 50C on the Edge temps (not TJ). Setting fan to 100% actually allows it to boost to 103%. FanStop actually gets disabled when setting a manual fan curve. It only works on Automatic.
    Minimum manually set Voltage can be set to 0.750V. This allows 1350 MHz clocks. Auto voltage actually goes down to 0.725V, but you can't manually set that unfortunately.
    RDNA1 loses 3 fps (on the dot) for every 100 MHz between 2300 MHz down to about 1700. Not percentage, just 3 fps. Very bizare.

    Hi, thanks for the good and informative video.
    Is this the highest result you could achieve, or is there some oc headroom left by increasing the fan speed?
    I know nobody would want to live with an extreme loud gpu but if you could go higher than ~2100 Mhz it could be considerable to swap out the cooler to a watercooler / Morpheus or to wait for aftermarket cards.
    Thanks in advance.

    I have found that this card (although I have the XFX Thicc 3) when overclocked doesn't show any instability until about an hour or two of gameplay, after many frustrating game crashes late in gaming sessions, an "auto" undervolt while leaving the rest of the settings as stock (this card targets 2094 Mhz while sitting 2033ish during actual gameplay with 1750Mhz RAM freq.) has resulted in great stability, while keeping fan's under 35% usage. Temps are stable around 75 degree current temp, and I have been more than happy with this result. Any additional overclocking has not been worth the marginal fps gains imho. So i gave this a watch as I have a 5700 XT. Now i am a bit green on amd software but currently i run with the OC slider maxed out, a slightly more aggressive fan curve than stock and memory at stock. No undervolt.
    Things seem to run okay and cool enough but im unsure if i should adjust my settings to match the video or what my appoach should be. Am i losing performance with my settings?
    Lets say i do 2110 as is the in video OC. Can that OC be undevolted? Also should i run the 2040 with the power slider at 0 or 50? Or should i stick with what I have?

    I don't understand why blower coolers are being used still. SFF cases are far more efficient now and no-one is using multi-GPU setups. It's in these two instances the blower cooler makes sense. It seems to me the only reason left is budget. Or maybe the AIB partners have asked AMD not to release dual fan designs so that they can sell their own variants. Then again, if that's true, if Sapphire, ASUS, Powercolor, etc actually had cards on day-one release, most people would choose them over the AMD-branded models directly from AMD.

    • @bluestrider2562
      @bluestrider2562 5 років тому +1

      I feel its closer to the budget reasons. If they did SFF cases they would probably have to charge above $399 and that wouldn't look good for there traditional marketing being about solid budget. This way their AIB partners can take make efficient upgrades while making AMD look good. Cant wait for Sapphire to launch there version. xD

    Either you got a pretty good 5700XT, or mine is pretty bad, I can't undervolt more than about -50mv before it crashes. It does give me (at least subjectively) very good boost clocks at roughly 1150mv, seeing consistently over 1905mhz but Wattman seems to break when you mess with power settings on Navi right now.

    I’m getting the card this monday. Partner 5700 xt’s here in the philippines cost around $500(P25000) with the nitro+ and strix go as high as $600(P30000). The cheapest I found was a reference xfx rx 5700 xt at $460(P23000). I also found a bykski waterblock for $90(P4500). Now I’m thinking of water cooling and adding it in my existing loop(240 rad for the cpu). Do you guys think a 120 rad would be on par, at least temperature wise, with the stock blower while being quieter? Reason for a 120rad is because I cant fit a 240 rad on my matx case without any serious modification. It would set me back maybe around $110-$120 additional cost for the waterblock, rad, additional fittings and tubing (all items branded under either bykski or barrow) bringing the total cost to around $600. My cpu peaks around 60C when streaming+gaming, if that matters. I dont plan on overclocking the gpu, or maybe a little if a get better temps than the blower.

    I generaly see the GPU market as follows: nvidia for people who want consistent performance out of the box throughout the years without next to no additional tweaking; AMD for people who want to mess around and test their GPU to get some nice numbers regarding thermals, and fps (vega lineup had stepped cooler speed, so after a light overclock and undervolt it never reached a certain threshold that would cause a jet to appear in my room); also note that the AMD GPUs age VERY well; vega 64 got a whole one performance level better during its lifetime.

    Yours runs so much cooler then mine.
    Mine runs so hot out of the box that my system crashes, I've pulled mine a part and applied thermal paste (they used some junk thermal pad thing on mine (and all of them I think?), that dropped my system temps by 10 degrees however, the card still runs way to hot and I cannot play most games as it overheats itself trying to push for higher core clock.
    I would recommend to anyone to purchase the XFX 5700XT mine is not going well, I plan to macgyver a better cooler on though so hopefully it can handle itself better once I have that in place.
    Currently working on butchering a Kraken G12 to fit it, unfortunately the way the Kraken mounts it blocks you from adding heatsinks to the RAM chips which is problematic as they overheat really badly.
    I am currently working on cutting some heatsinks to get around this limitation and retain a reasonable thermal mass.

    • @K31TH3R
      @K31TH3R 5 років тому

      Look up the washer mod for the 5700XT. The problem is that the mounting pressure is too low, and if you replace the graphite pad with thermal paste you need to increase the mounting pressure by putting a couple plastic washers beneath the spring steel in order to increase mounting pressure. And also, you're going to want to be careful with running the core with uneven thermal paste spread, because hot spotting because of imperfect contact is a very good way to kill a GPU quickly.
