That’s one sweet restoration job on THE badass bike! I had a brand new 86 CR 125 and rode it for a year and a half. Then I got the 87 CR 250R. I ported n polished the top end. Chunked the stock exhaust for a Pro Circuit full system, that had some bark authority to it. The best sounding exhaust back then. I did get to spend some time on a 87 CR500R at the track. That was an awesome beast! That was a blast to hit the track hard with! Sure wish I could find another one to fix up…
Great effort on the CR500. I once had a similar CR250 and the idle speed was adjustable by rotating the choke pull knob. it is an enrichment adjustment and can speed up the idle. Hope your carb is similar.
The 1987 cr 500 in my opinion is ,when all things are considered ,hands down the most iconic motorcycles of the golden age of motocross,..out of all the 500s i reckon that particular model ,with great looks and build quality and handling makes it the king that will appreciate in value more than any other model eventually ,even the newer ones,,for sure..i have one and i also have a 1990 yz 490 and just recently sold a 1986 kx 500 , one thing i did notice ,with one of each to compare with each other is that the honda cr 500 build quality is way way better than. Kx or yz ,no comparison..thats why its the best..iconsof an era always turn into wanted collectibles ,thats what it is ,not so much the newer ones...
@@bigshowdownunder8969 you said it all. I’ve just completed an 82’ RM 250 which I love but…not even close in quality of build or looks. From a colour perspective the 87 was perfect. From a proportion perspective it stands out as the perfect design. Only a few folks realize that it is the one CR you simply cannot find parts for. All this makes it, as you say, very collectible and an icon. Perfect as can be.
I sold my cr500 1989 for £750 back in 1997 thank god i’ve owned and raced one of these beautiful machines because these days just turn into a money pit alone with massive profits, human greed 😠🤷♂️
Great journey to completion 👍🏼nicely placed decals too. Would be nice to see the process of finishing the plastics off a little more which is a tricky thing to get right but Loving your work M8
@@blanchard899great! Yes it’s a PJ27 B I’ve got a 1.70 main 1370 needle and a 58 idle Running a proRace pipe. This was one the bike when I got it. Fuel is E10 (95 octane) In the video I started a 1.5 turns but it’s surging and hard to get it to idle. I haven’t run the bike since the video. Cheers 👍
Oh my! NOW I know what I want for Christmas.! What an unreal restoration. I am super impressed. Highlights are the plastic restoration and putting together all the correct pieces in the right shades of red/orange. And that seat - the colour and the vinyl work is just wonderful. Congrats on a wonderfully well done project. It's been a dream to follow. Can't wait for the next video - go crazy! :D
Ran into a hi-cup on one of my last builds. had a slight cold seize right before the guy came to buy it. Turns out i had a failure of a brand new transmission side crank seal. Fixing that right now so that i can get the money to start moving on the 500. Getting a new cylinder for it this weekend as the original one is at its last bore. Looked everywhere for a sleeve and no luck. @@MyRestoration1
Fantastic job you did there 👍 The look on your face riding it in the intro clip said it all 😁 These motocross bikes sound scary and must take a lot of nerve to ride at full potential. Looking forward to seeing you ride it proper after some tweaks.... but hope you don't get it too dirty🙃
Outstanding build, the bike looks and sounds amazing. Congratulations, you should be rightfully proud of your achievements. If you are looking for a willing pilot to test ride the beast on the dirt, I have 36yrs experience of racing these machines (I race a 1996 model currently) I would be happy to take one for the team and stretch the cable for you !!!!!
Brilliant job of doing the bike I am currently taking on a job to restore one for a friend would it be possible for you to to all the oem stickers for the bike and ship them to me thanks Tom
Hi Craig. This seat is the 3rd attempt to get the correct one. I made it myself and as you can see I sprayed it with decals I made at my work. If you want to do this right you have to do it yourself. Story of our time..the previous video goes into some detail on this job..and no I don’t make them to sell 😂
We were already getting worried... Almost 3 weeks without news! :)

Indeed! This fellow did a marvelous job with close attention to detail and making it just so.

Thank you. Yes when the dust settles I’ll look for more tutorial type content 👍
What a great job all round, those plastic parts are not easy to restore. A great bike the Honda 500 is.
Outstanding restoration. Bravo!
That beast was so hard to ride! I think the seat is from a 250 CR. Thank you for the Videos!
@@robertkatzenmeier6 I’ve heard this from another but I’m sure it’s not the 250. It was bent out of shape by the non oem tank.
Marvellous restoration and what a sound !!! 🎉
Congratulations mate , she looks beautiful, please next time you ride it wear a helmet, we need you to be safe for more restorations like this!!!!
Raced one in 89,these bikes are beasts! They just want to pull your arms off!

Absolutely amazing work! You should be really proud 👍
Wonderful sound!!!😊
Oh yes..!
Looks amazing. A true labor of love. I hope someone actually rides it in the dirt, though that probably seems painful at this point.
Yes it has to be run down a lane pinned…then into the house!
