Oh such beautiful memories the exhaust note music brings to my ears..back to the late 70s and early 80s when I raced 400 and 465cc air-cooled twin shock drum braked kick-start only vintage big bore 2 strokes..love this video and how it keeps our much loved 2 strokes alive and doing well👌👍❤️❤️🤠🤠
Glad you enjoyed it
Makes you wonder why Honda or Kawasaki doesn't produce the 500 kings in the newer bikes. They would sell the HELL outta them, far too many want them, have had 2 and 4 strokes over many years and it's a back and fourth love affair they both have their benefits. Awesome other countries are keeping it alive.
@u.ppredatorx2394 They sell more parts so its more business when a complex 4 stroke engine breaks down eventually is one reason I guess.
@@u.ppredatorx2394I would by a new cr500 instantly 😂lol if only
Both are great bikes and thank you guys. I'm a diehard YZilla fan for some time now. Great to see modern conversion kits available for public. Truly amazing power to ground.
We did take the Yzilla to this shoot too so keep your eyes peeled for a comparison video with the t500, Kong & Yzilla soon :)
2 stroke or bust. Rematch!
😅
Yep t week it and rematch. So good to see that machine
i think its brilliant that someone makes a conversion kit we need a race series in the future i would go to watch(and smell) that
It would be awesome to see a full line up of 500's again. We would put our BRC's on it for sure :)
This channel has really come of age, the boyish excitement is still there, however the professionalism in the overall presentation has come on leaps and bounds, the mixture of vintage, modern and fun tech is perfect, with Dave on hand for the vintage, very good test riders and good tech experts in the team you can't go wrong. Well done Max and team.
Thanks, we appreciate your comment :)
Yep. Been watching since the beginning and now it’s one of my main channels due to the quality of content. Well done.
Although i dont mind 4 strokes. I would never buy 1 unless i was flipping it. The sound and the smell of 2 strokes is just how dirtbikes were meant to be. I dont care if they are faster or slower its just better when its 2 stroke.
DITTO
We could talk 2 strokes all day, this also include my favorite 175DT, a memory of youth also.
@monopolyspaentertainment3171 i can still remember the bike i saw as a kid the addicted me. Ktm 125 or 250. The white turquoise an purple one. The smell an the sound was just amazing to me.
Amen 👍
1984 Cagiva WMX 125, saw one at the dealership and instantly fell in love….
Electric start on a CR500. If only I had that back in the day!
As soon as That 2 Stroke 500 T go's up For Sale I Wll be Buying One!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Love it..............
It's has the best CR500 look, the 1986 gold rims and deep red.
Can’t beat the sound of a 2-stroke 💨💨
I got to ride a CRF450R a couple of years ago. What a beast, scared the s..t out of me but a hell of a lot of fun. Power to burn. 🙂
I was 61 back then but I was 20 again 🙂
I'll never forget my pal's Maico 490. I think it was an 84 model and we were thrashing it around a friend's farm and along a new stretch of dual carriageway that was being built back in 1988. Nothing quite like a Maico in the dirt.
you might like this video we made then :) ua-cam.com/video/H8_XDy7mCBk/v-deo.html
@@999lazer Thanks for the blast from the past. About 12+ years ago I made my interest known to a local bike dealer, who was actually a friend of mine (at the time) After he showed me pictures of his forthcoming USA barn find imports. So I told him I'd give him a grand for a 1984 Suzuki PE250, which was another bike I adored from my late teens. When I went to collect it 4-6 weeks later, as it was arranged, he'd sold it. So I've not spoken to him in 14 years.
Man I've been waiting for a video like this. Thanks! I really believe there are still a lot more advancements coming to the 2 strokes.
Thanks for watching :)
Two strokin, blue smokin, red riding son of a gun here, big dawg.
Thanks for another great video, like the previous comment, back when we raced RM 465's etc, you just can't but get that warm excited feeling inside your bones when you hear a big bore two banger.
Four stroke since 1968, Honda S90. Much more tractable and deceptively quick. My ‘73 xl350 pulled hole shot after hole shot. It didn’t hurt that I weighed 120 pounds. My xr500, same story. All the guys I beat off the line wanted to ride my bike and turned out to be unimpressed. My dirt bike today is an old Husaberg 650. I’ve yet to be bested off the line.
Uh huh
Thanks mate for this video and thanks to Tim Clark to bring the T500 also in the UK 💪
Thanks for designing such an amazing engine. Pure genius. 👍
Every video is top notch at the moment Max. Really smashing the quality videos out.
Thank you Tomasin for making such a cool thing.
Thanks Paul
Dude, you have a problem with cutting people off when they're talking, which is extremely rude! You had the shorter guy with the red outfit on looking pretty irritated by you cutting him off, I've noticed you've done it a few times, you even did it to the other guy who built that motorcycle.
i read this before i watched the video and oh my god this guy just jumps the gun with every time he tries to talk in a conversation 😬
Some people just don’t seem to recognize themselves doing this, he definitely cut him completely off there at the end.
hell i thought i saw him run out on the track interrupting his ride! i know he was interrupting the sound of the bike
Dude ur acting like a girl
Why you trollin dude? Everyone communicated just fine and got .02c in evenly. You think everyone should be stoned like joe rogan letting someone go on too long? Lol. Sometimes its TIME to move on to the next question.
Not sure what was more impressive...those bikes or them drones filming them. Very cool!
Check out the slow action shots and watch the chain. You can see how much of a workout they get.
What a beauty Max. I'm sure they will get it fully sorted 💪🏼👍🏻
Turning up qt track with that cr500 is like turning up at prom night with a porn star🤣🤣
It takes a certain skill to ride one though.
@@greatestytcommentator Practice for perfection.
The Honda CR500 sounds absolutely wonderful on top. It has some "hitching" during throttle engagement in certain RPM ranges under load. Think the mapping may be a bit off and in need of some improvement with more track testing? All together a brilliant engineering feat that is to be commended!!
Great Video Max, Phil, and Sean! Well done Tomassin for creating a very stunning modern 500cc 2T weapon! Drool worthy looks for sure! All the best in your development and future sales!
WOW - 999laz you have out done yourself on this video / bikes !!! The sound of the T500 braaaaapin that track is second to none !!! Very interested in the build on the T engine !!! Super to say the least !!! I have ridden a stk 2022 CRF 450 and several open class 2 strokes ( my 92 KTM MX 500 ) has been my favorite so far !!!! 999 - you have the best content on the net by far !!!!! This track you are on looks amazing - what I would do to spin a few laps on it myself !!! I picked up what I call a modern open bike a couple weeks ago - my 2020 Beta 300RX and its amazing but not a KTM T500 lol ! Thank you again for all you do for our sport - god bless and keep safe my friend !!!! BRAAAAAAAP 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Italy gets all the cool Honda stuff. The 300 and 400 kits for the RX’s look fun as well.
That has to be one of the best sounding two smoker I’ve heard 😊!
Hopefully Honda will go through with their current cr500 project and get them back on the market and race approved. If they do I could see 2 strokes dominating races again
When I see this I hope that all japanice brands would make 500 cc bikes. The thing is if it will become different classes or if they can mix 500 and 450 four strokes. Super exiting video Max!👍
Thanks Thomas
Beautiful bike, definitely worth the money!
Problem with timed comparisons, while fun its not really comparable, there aren't any real 500 riders who are true 2 stroke riders left, even Bradshaw has too much 4t in him. I watch both of these guys for example, lines are the same, position cornering the same, its not like that on a 2stroke, 125, 250, 500 all have their nuances, gear selection, lines, track position, especially using the track to maximize the power delivery esp on a 500, typically you ride a 500 in higher gears to reduce wheel spin, torque and power is not an issue, you could tell on the jumps while the bike is balanced the rider is not front wheel up and rear wheel catching the lip, on a 2 stroke you push into the face of a jump, through your hips and drive into it, Cornering you want to carry speed but in a higher gear, why sometimes 125 riders of the past became great 500cc riders you don't wring it out like a 125, but you carry momentum in higher gears to maintain traction, but also to control the power, unlike a 125 where you are trying not to fall off the power, no that you cant go inside but to do that effectively and fast you need to be fit, strong and have great technique, they are all skills modern riders don't have, its not skill its technique developed riding 2 strokes, if you go back and forth and you are primarily a 4t rider you will ride like a 4t rider.
Reducing time is not just twisting a throttle, its how you utilize it, if you do the same thing expecting different results you get poor outcome! Of course its all about fun and for most of us we aren't racing pro nowadays and cost, I ride for fun and I don't ride 4ts, have no interest in owing one nowadays, but its still a bike and still interesting to follow races, its not the same anymore, because the bikes can do so much for the rider, yes they have skills, different skills, but bike allows that, 2strokes require a higher IQ and skill imo, doesn't mean harder, its just a skill that is lost .
Unless you can get a Mike Brown and even then he rides 4t stokes too often, it would be great to get a Dave Thorpe on channel to talk about this subject, because I think it is a fascinating subject, its something as a kid reading magazines about Hannah, then O'Mara, Bailey Johnson, Glover, Malherbe, Thorpe, Eric Geboers, Jobe etc etc always studied their techniques, to me today its not generally discussed esp during these comparisons, but is very relevant, because my partner can ride a 4t around, she cant race it, or doesn't mean she could, its a different animal, she couldn't ride a 500cc around or my YZ250, it scares her.
But its how I developed my skills on a bike that and riding every hour I could, home from school and off out onto the tracks straight away, ride around the road 50m and on to the dirt, neighbors never minded no Karens, I didn't need Vanned or trailered everywhere. Thank gawd I'm not a helicopter kid of today, its not their fault its what we created for them. But they will never have that freedom and never experience the racing at all levels we did or saw or read in magazine about.
For what ever reason the 450 class just does not capture the aura of what the 500cc class does and did in its hey day, it is what we have so we have to accept it, but its not the same regardless of their power speeds, E bike will dumb it down even more!
Thank you to Tommasin and both these riders and Tim at Moto-X Workshops for doing what hes doing, lest we get to see something both modern and nostalgic that was always awesome.🤘
To be a new project is already very competitive.
I think in a couple of years those 500 two strokes will be again the Kings of motocross.
2 stroke of course,I was hoping the 500 would smoke it but had a feeling it wasn’t going to.Good to see Honda up the top for a change aswell
Neat! Hope they get to ride in the pro 450 class again some day.
I hope so too!
I like both 2 and 4 strokes. A big bore 2-stroke is a glorious sound.
Jet Lawrence could win on any bike at the moment I think he’s that good
Always 2 Stroke ! It’s in my blood ! They don’t only go good they smell good !
As I grow up in the 80-90s
It's 2 stroke all the way baby.
Plus I owned a CR 480, the one with the kick start on the left. What a pain to start but when it was going it was going.
@dpenduro8950 dude you tried to kick a single cylinder 480 2 stroke, bro even bumping starting it was next to impossible, even 2 up down hill in 3rd, it would just lock the back wheel.
I'm sure there was a load of left hand kick start bikes out there, but an old drum brack CR480 was a mission to get started.
I grew up in the 70's. (I'm old) I rode MX until 2002 when the tracks started turning into 4 stroke noise factories.. I hated being surrounded by the sound of a bunch of obnoxious thumpers. I'm sure the bikes today are amazing, but I'm 2 stroke all the way. There's nothing like the sound of a 2 stroke and smell of Castrol racing oil in the morning.
I raced an 85 CR500 at Carlsbad when I was 17....Oh My God it was INSANELY fast.
I rode a 1985 Honda CR 500 in Adelanto Cal and it was like a remote control with Fast Forward, scared scared the crap out of me, they were like 68hp, by 1995 they were 62hp, because only a handful of riders could handle them at full throttle….
@GreyCat-qd6yi yep, I used to ride with Ron Lechein and you would not believe what he could do on that thing!
The rush of a well tuned, big bore two stroke can not be bettered 😊
CR500 all day long ,i have not raced in 30 years now but have got into videoing some events , you can hear a CR500 before it comes into sight it is simply motocross porn and brings back every little piece of nostalgia from my day mostly due to DT himself and with an electric start you have it made because yep they could be a real B...... to start and it sure looks Damn Cool , Great feature really loving the channel
You need to get hold of a AJ Wagner service built Honda 500 in the USA. I'm not impressed with the t500 conversion. 3:36
Let's do this again soon. I'd love to see the 2stroke pull ahead.👍
A fantastic video Max, the T500 sounds nice and looks great, fair play to the Honda crf 450 a great bike, the track looked good too, nice one Max.
Thanks Kevin, it was a fun day for sure.
I've been riding a Cr 500 for over 30 years! A 450 4 stroke doesn't stand a chance! That's if the rider can get the power to the ground! And this dudes riding it like a 4 stroke! I've raced plenty of 450's, and I piss on um every time!!!!
.🦅🇺🇸RIDE ON FREERIDERS🇺🇸🦅
BRAP, BRAAAAAAAAAP!!!!!✌️❤️🤙
1976, standing outside the first turn at Namur when 30 500 GP 2 strokes are coming straight at ya! I'll take that memory to the grave.
Yes!!! Only 2 stroke !!!!
@@Lyonne875 😁
Wicked! My shoulders couldn't take it anymore.
2T until the day I die. Nothing wrong with the 4T but I love the sound, smell, and snappiness of the 2T.
I've always criticized the fact that manufacturers don't take motocross engine design seriously.
For example crf engine block is only slightly modified from the old two-stroke design.
It's not the right way to build a four-stroke engine, it's a cheap and easy way.
I have said that this could easily be converted back to a two-stroke.
Good to have someone else do it so I don't have to prove it.
There is no way I could bring these two beast together and not race them side by side!! I wouldn’t even be able to talk for an interview in till someone raced me on the opposite bike😤😂❤
I love the sound of a well tuned 4 stroke 👍
Always a 2-stroke fan, not necessarily about power but power to weight along with cost and simplicity to maintain and rebuild. I guarantee both are not running the same compression, so betting a lot is left on the table for power in the 2-stroke.
There is no better sound than a two stroke motocross bike being ridden through the gears ! Any chance of you arranging for Dave Thorpe to give this bike a spin ? , it would be great to see his feedback and opinion , that video would be amazing. We can but dream !!
I bought my first "big bike" in 2006 when i was 15. Ill never forget the yamaha dealer saying "2 strokes will be gone within a year or 2, parts will disappear, and theyll become worthless"
2 strokes had a scary reputation but it was between an 06 yz125 or 06 yz250f. So i bought the 06 yz250f. The irony is that yamaha makes that very same yz125 today.
I can’t wait for a rematch after that tune up
Good looking Track, both Bikes Beautiful Machines would take both 300cc CRF would be more the power I would like
That dirt is primo chocolate cake!!!
The most impressive operator in this video is the drone pilot! 😎👍
Love two strokes but I'm absolutely in the fourstroke camp these days. Can change in the near future since the fuel injected two strokes are promising. By the way,. the CRF450 isn't the king of the class, it didn't win any shootout in stock condition for the past years. Don't mixup the factory stuff with stock bikes.
Kudos to all involved for publishing an outcome which is unfavorable to Tim's marketing of the T500 - this shows complete honesty, a quality which I have come to appreciate here on 999lazer!
IMHO, big bore 2 stroke vs. 4 stroke on this track isn't going to make much difference, because the amount of power which can be delivered to the ground is limited mainly by the rest of the bike (chassis, suspension, etc). In tight woods, small bore 2 strokes have a significant advantage over 4 strokes.
Something I wish you would address in your reviews is how well the test bikes fit tall riders. A skilled short rider can ride just about any bike fast, but a tall rider on a diminutive bike is hamstrung. Most available 2 strokes seem to be diminutive these days.
The T500 looks like it would work well for tall riders - thank you for making this video 🙂
Love that 500 Max ! Awesome video ........
Thanks Scott
I could never afford a bike so I haven't tried many, but I tried a cr 500 when I was a teenager and wow it was devilish !! We had to pull with a car to start it obviously, compression is sick
Looks so nice!! Can we please get a comparison to the YZilla and Kong? Looks like it doesnt have a powervalve, just like the old CR500. Would be interesting to hear if that makes a difference for the worse. And yeah, it sounded a bit 'off', maybe a bit lean?
Stayed tuned, we did shoot that comparison on the same day so its coming soon :)
@@999lazer Awesome!!!!
ONE POINT OVERLOOKED THE TWOSTROKE WILL BE MUCH MUCH CHEAPER TO MAINTAIN. GREAT VIDEO MAX ,PITY IT WAS,NT RUNNING COMPLETELY RIGHT 😔. LOOKS FANTASTIC,SMELLS BETTER .ITS A VERY CLEVER ENGINEERING PACKAGE FROM AN ITALIAN MASTER THAT HAS DONE EVERYTHING RIGHT . MR HONDA COULDN,T BE BOTHERED TO DO IT 😢
No notification again 😡😡😡😡 two stroke all the way
Should do a report on the Triumph team in mx2. They are up there!
We were luck enough to try the Triumph in FLorida (link below) but stay tuned as we have something very interesting coming up with them next week;) ua-cam.com/video/2tDuOxo52n0/v-deo.html
@@999lazer Can’t wait! McLellan and Haarup are doing great which means Triumph did a great job and especially the test riders Hot Sauce, the Panda and the Goat.
Although, as a Belgian my goat is and will always be #72 Stefan Everts. 😉
Always 2 stroke!
2stoke all the way always been a big 2stoke nut with owning a lot over the years
Another great video!!!
Glad you enjoyed it!
That CR500 looks CLEANN
its a nice looking bike for sure
For once I don't agree with Sean.
When he says if Honda built a 500 this would be it I'm just not on the same page.
I love the idea of this bike but when it comes down to it its an engine conversion.
The chassis was designed and built soley around that 4t - which is why its very well balanced and all the parts/systems are calibrated to make it as good as it can be.
When you simply drop weight from the top of the engine, change the power curve, throttle pick up and fuelling completely, all that goes straight out of the window.
If Honda built one it may use that frame. However if they took it seriously it would look and behave very differently. With the lower weight and less bottom end it simply doesn't need as heavy a frame or as large - which again plays into that stiffer/lighter circle.
In the same way the gear selection would be different, tc mapped differently, suspension set up would be different and all the rest - even down to it not needing as much starting juice allowing lighter components.
There is probably a 10+kg difference in what a real factory developed bike would be and quite a noticable difference in frame size/shape.
Then there is the price. £18k after tax? Imagine the BRC based nutterbike you could build for that. Or just look in your garage...
Right on!!
That last jump on the 500 was close!
Sounds like they need a decent carb! But 2stroke all the way baby
That sound!
These bikes both are bad ass.. especially the 500 two stroke..
awesome videos lately
Thanks, you're welcome :)
Love the 2 stroke, how many hours until the first rebuild?
Hi guys, what is the difference in weight between the two engines and weight difference between the two bikes if you have the specifications, top stuff hit a goal with this one cheers.
Wonder if it’ll fit the CRFx
I first thought that is whas a bike from rappa racing he also does allot of 4 to 2 stroke swaps
Something to think about too, that bike when ridden properly rarely hit fourth. It has a lot of room in each gear and the video sounded like it was barely being revved out which -that- 2-stroke is literally made for. It was being ridden like a 4-stroke and it 4-choked. I gotta say, as someone who's been on a few.. You have to take a bit to get comfortable with that bike. It's a lot to handle.
NO BS THIS T500 COOL AF‼️
it looks like he needs to dampen the rebound some on the 500 . its a bit too springy on the landings
I learned to ride on 2 stroke off road bikes, they are easy and cheap to maintain, I love them and am often on the web looking for street legal cr500's. Until I find my dream bike I will stick with my KTM superduke R
Two smoke till i die
I have fond memories of my KTM 380 MXC.
And YES had a CRF450 and CRF250
He's lugging that CRF450, in too high of a gear through most of the video. That guy looked like an amateur rider on that bike. I think he was scared of it, in all honesty. I wonder how the infamous 1986 CR500 would compare to these 2 bikes? I remember riding one of those CR500's back in '87, when I was 13, and man it was wild!! I've also been on a CRF 450, recently, and they are surprisingly quick and light feeling. Plenty of power. Very unlike any oldschool 4 stroke I've been on. I love the looks of both bikes here, probably prefer the sound of the 2 stroke, but like the powerband of the 4 stroke. It powers through, but you got to have it in the right gear.
Interesting comparison.
The two smoker sounds like a 250????
Neat bike anyway.
As cool as a 500 2t is, it’s not the fast way aroubd a MX track. I’m faster on a husky 390 or 430 than I am on my 500. They are fun, but they dies out for a reason. The electric start would solve most people’s issues with owning a 500.
Braaap! All the way
😊
They should run a Smart Carb in the T500 that will fix all the fuel issues
It’s efi not carburetted
who welded that 500 pipe?? brazed?
team 2 stroke ftw but dam havent watch the whole thing yet but dam that sounds beast
I'm waiting on a bike that uses the new Pantera 600cc motor!!!!
4 strokes have come a long way. I ride a 2004 RM 250 2 Stroke myself, but the power of a 450 is just so easy to handle and it has so much traction. The on/off nature of a 2 Stroke is harder to get to the ground. I think the world would be ready for 3 classes of cc limited bikes no matter what the strokes. 125 would be all 2 strokes, 250 would be mix of 2 vs 4 strokes, and 500 would be mainly 4 strokes with some brave souls on 2 strokes. And just as the playing field is starting to be level between the strokes then comes the electric bikes to shake it all up 😂
How about Maico 700cc vs Honda T500 ?
Smoker's rule
I'll be a two-stroke guy for life!!!! Why is the dirt black????
That dirt is wild. Looks like asphalt crumbs
