So another worthwhile project hits the screen. No less the beast, a 'Man bike', Cancelled in the name of safety, What ever you want to call it. This is the last un-restricted crazy idea from Honda to produce a bike you simply can't use to it's full potential. Dull 4 stroke restricted racing still sees the CR500 2 stroke competing and winning in many unrestricted races after 30+ years of so-called- development. I want one. I want it in a glass case just to know I have something that belongs to another age.
Lets see if it is up to the hype..

I am seriously impressed. I’ve owned lot of bikes and done tons of work to them but nothing like this! It warmed my heart watching the original labels being applied, as if this neglected motorcycle was being reborn into the beautiful motorcycle it once was and still deserves to be. As a motorcycle enthusiast, thank you for sharing your incredible work with us, and for preserving such an iconic machine. Cheers from Michigan USA!
You are most welcome! Thank you 🙏
that was beautiful
The most beautiful off road motorcycle ever made
I agree. It is pure function. No frills. That is something we don’t see anymore
One of for Sure 🦾🏁
The widow maker in all her 1987 glory, what an absolutely beautiful restoration
Thank you 🙏
@@MyRestoration1 thank you for all the hard work! She’s beautiful
One scary motorcycle. 👍
Excellent video. 1980s best decade for motocross bikes.
An astounding restoration. It’s been a pleasure watching it all come together. Extremely gratifying I’m sure but totally understandable why you’d never want to do it again.
Thanks for an amazing restoration video, it brought back many fond memories watching you restore it as I brought my CR500 RH brand new in Australia for $4,600.00 and rebuilt it from frame up 3x times! over the many years of ownership I even drag raced it and it did the Quarter in 13.2 seconds stock!! it was an Animal to ride and anyone who was behind on the track's used to keep there head down if they seen me twist on the throttle!!
That’s funny 😆 I watch Kaplan America rip up some turf when I need a boost! Thanks for your comments mate
Wow! I had an ‘84 XR500RE and loved those old Honda’s to bits. Incredible quality work, bravo!
To say I am speechless is an understatement. You sir are nothing short of a master restorer. I always wonder how much work people like you had to do on bikes to garner such skills. I just received my 1981 Honda CR 250R in the USA my father bought for me in South Africa as a schoolboy in 1982. It has sat inside our farmhouse since I left South Africa in 1988. It is 100% original and after draining oil , coolant and cleaning carb and putting a new plug and filter it kicked over on the second kick having sat unridden for over 30 years . There is nothing like those old bikes . Thank you for taking us along on the journey . I bet the first ride was exhilarating like only a 500 can give you . 👌👌
Stunning, a craftsman at work . Such an iconic bike .
What I love about this channel is the fact we all make mistakes and rob is the first to admit it that makes this channel the best restoration channel because we all don’t feel beliited and the attention to detail is something special
Much respect.. as an American that seldomly sees these parts rusting away in someone's back yard, I know that you're doing God's work for the parts you might find in the UK that are rare as hen's teeth.. Bravo
Nice to see original Honda parts restored, Hondas don't like being upgraded. Sweet bike.
Hands down the most obsessive and detailed restoration of anything I’ve ever seen ever you made this bike brand new out the factory 1987 this is incredible
Thank you 🙏
Ur definition of restoring makes me feel good inside. I enjoyed every minute of this video. Thanks
Just to see a RM 500 let alone owning one and riding that big yellow rocket wow
One will be available for sale very soon 😜.
Lovely to see the sellers reaction mind blowing merry Christmas
I own a 1992 CR500R. I bought it because my father had one even before I was born, and there's home video of me climbing on the thing when I was less than 2 years old. Parts are very difficult to find for these things, so the fact that you've managed to salvage and re-use so much is very impressive. I admire your determination, and eye for detail. Also, the jazz in the shop reminds me fondly of my grandfather, and I greatly appreciate that nostalgia. Side note, if anyone has a line on an intake boot or a throttle housing for a 92, please let me know.
This must be hands down one of the only CR500's left on the planet that is in near new condition. Seriously it should be in a museum it's too nice and rare to be ridden about. Just wow amazing job. Thanks for sharing
Thank you 🙏
If someone else is reading this and knows of another mint 87 please share!
Finally someone with my attention to detail! I done a yz125 1989. After I finished i just couldn’t ride it. Paid 300 for it! 2years getting parts all around the world for it. Then 1 year building it in spare time. Then sold it 4500. I also got the safety stickers made. Well done be proud of it! I brought a brand new tc125 and now rag hell out of it and dont care about the bike. They guy who brought mine said he wanted it for his man cave and its never to be ridden! So somewhere in england there is a yz125 1989 that completely restored back to original show room condition sitting in a man cave resting! I loved that bike but loved it so much I couldn’t ride it! I said il never restore another bike. Ive probably dont at least 5 different bikes after that but customers bikes not my personal bikes
I admire your patience I would have never been able to have the patience to restore a bike like you did but you did save a lot of money by hand fabricating
Yes I did have a bunch but I was still surprised at the final spend. More then I expected..There was very little on that frame to work with unfortunately. Rookie lesson.
Absolutely phenomenal restoration! Enjoyed watching your craftsmanship
I used to race this exact model back in 1989 and 1990, before I left to go into the army.
Sold it for a LOT less than you bought that one for! Loved it, I actually finished a race with a flat front tyre, my older brother who helped me spanner when I raced said I’d not finish, I told him, nah, don’t need a front tyre inflated! (You do, but the bike was such an animal, it done half the course on one wheel anyway!)
What I’d give for another, with some 17” wheels and slicks!
Well done! Now on to the Norton!
That is an excellent restoration. I'll definitely be rewatching this when I get to my project. I still have the 1985 Cagiva WMX 500 that I collected from their California warehouse still in the crate. It hasn't been ridden since I last raced it in 1987.
The best restoration channel by a long way
Your one of the few that truly restores. You don't farm the project out and have excellent skills. Well done!
Thank you. Keeps me trying. Appreciated!
Grazie per aver recuperato una moto straordinaria grazie alle tue capacità da hondista grazie ancora
Stunning! I mean just an outstanding build. I live near the Mojave desert and owned a 1986 CR 500 and it made my eyeballs bleed. Even in the Mojave desert, there are very few people who could ride this machine to its potential. With a resto this nice it would be a shame to rail it in the dirt. It's a museum piece now.
I would agree will everything you are saying here Steve thank you 🙏
Great job. I had a friend who's uncle was a pro and he ride a CR 480 and then bought one of these and man talk about game changer. Excellent job on the restoration.
Thanks Darrell. I must say up until now I have not ridden the bike other than in the video you saw. Let’s see if you a right. I have no doubt you are!
Finally!!! A PROPER restoration, not just people with excess cash throwing big money with bags of NOS parts at a project. Taking the time to find, repair, restore and revive old, existing parts, creating the unobtainium bits from scratch and fabricating a piece of history for the rest of us to behold. Congratulations on such a job well done.
You get it! Your channel looks up my street. I’ll be dining on your projects too. 👍
@@MyRestoration1 Yes sir!!! We are definitely cut from the same cloth - I only wish I could spend more time doing these restorations. It's a part-time gig for me but I just love taking the time. The end result is so worth it. Cheers - K.
The only rebuild I've ever seen ...and I wasn't aware until I watched this. Clapping!!!
Bike is mint. Bravo.🎉 . The off idle pulses get yout hands sweaty, but hyped up. Good job. 🤠👍
Beautiful job, I restored a 1981 Yamaha YZ 465H2 stroke back to original and that thing was fast but nothing is as vicious as a CR 500 great job
Ah, the widowmaker. Absolutely beautiful work in bringing her back to life. Red Bull team member, Aaron Colton, rightly said of the CR500, "Honda produced the bike to humble anyone who thought they were tough." What a terrifying machine!
WOW brought back great memories when it fired up….i really loved that sound…..unfortunately I was stupid enough to sell it in 1989
I don’t know what’s more impressive… the restoration or the fact that the Orwellian European Union allows petrol powered dirtbikes to purr on the continent. Beautiful bike nonetheless. 👏 cheers bruv!
Upgraded to a 87 CR-500 from my older 83CR480 race bike .
Thought that if the 87 had the same slim ergonomic fit that the 480 had along with a OHLINS rear shock on it
It would've a much better bike.
Great restoration job 👍
Wow, not just a parts changer but true restoration, much respect fine sir.
Ive had 2 cr 500s over the yrs , a 88 and a 95. Awesome build, damn near pwrfect. If i had any complaint it would be thats the wrong seat pan for the bike. The 500 was a little wider at the tank those yrs. That looks like a 250 pan. But only the nerdiest of honda nerds would notice. Great build man
the attention go detail is unreal that belongs in a honda museum 👌
@@Davidsasuk thank you. I’ve yet to see one better in all honesty so I’m very pleased that I currently own it.
SMILE . Great build . I rode one of those beast back in the day. If i would of seen what was coming i would of bought all the used ones up.
Amazing and incredible resto, truly always satisfying to bring back a bike to its original glory.
Absolutely impressed! Down to the factory warning labels and decals! Bravo!
Absolutely amazing, all the fine details like the stickers on the carb etc. well done. What a rebuild.❤
Thank you Vold
My mind has just been blown!! You are seriously skilled!!! What a beautiful bike.
Used to have an 88....wish I had never sold it...years of fun on that bike!
Fantastic transformation of an iconic motorcycle. What a job you have done on her. Your channel is one of the best on UA-cam and your resto job on the vfr 800fi was also equally as impressive. Fantastic work. Best wishes for the new year and all the best.
My God, that's all I can say! You have done such a beautiful awesome job, on a scale of 1-10 it's a 99. Great work my brother with every attention to detail.
BEAST !! love it :) Ive spent a lovely Sunday morning watching this and the Le Mans rebuilds and now have face ache from smiling for an hour - top job !
That’s so cool! Thank you
Impressive work! Very nice attention to details. Well done :)
That bike is amazing. The patience you must have endured. I loved all the OEM looking stickers you replicated. Badass bike!
Dirtbikes must be the hardest to restore in mint condition? From all the damage and scars they naturally get from minute one when using them.
Awesome job! ❤
Motor mount you manufactured looks gorgeous, great work.
Extremely well done on an iconic bike
You sir are a maestro. Couldn't believe you did it all yourself...well done 10/10 from Texas USA
Thank you sir!
The attention to detail is unbelievable!
What a great restoration! I did something similar with a SWM 125 but not nearly as well as you, and I had way more help. A lot of setbacks and I think I made a loss of at least € 3,000 (if I were to sell the bike, which I will not). But I got at least € 10,000 back in fun, experience and meeting good people! Wish I could have made a great video like yours. Congratulations on a great job.
You are absolutely amazing what you do attention to every detail the patience you have is bar none God broke the mold when he made you .
you need more than 7k for that. you need a loooot of various skills and a lot of time available. Glorious save of a widowmaker. It's one of my dream bikes.
real mechanic! refurbish with simple tools und know how , great !
I like this rebuild, i am in the proces of doing a cosmetic detail of my CB1000 big one. I have gained a lot of succes with replating nuts, bolts and such. The company i work with charge very little money and the endresult is like new!
I meant to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and positive proactive 2024 for us all. Let's forget the crazy planet out there and focus on personal excellence!
You did such a fantastic job! I’ve restored several bikes in my day (current one is a ‘71 Kawasaki F8 Bison disaster) and I’m very impressed!
😳 if you don't notice the Michelin Tracker tires - you're sure you've been thrown back to 1987 in a time machine !!!! nothing short than AMAZING !!! ALL THE RESPECT !!!
Spotted! 😂
I WANT THAT BIKE !!! it's beautiful, my favourite bike of all time ( apart from the 1980 Suzuki 125 x ) brilliant job, congratulations on your skills.
Can someone find me one that needs restoring please!!!?
Really like your cardboard template screw holder. Well done!
Now, that is what I call a true restoration. Not like some other restorations that is almost perfect but only ruined by replacing the original rims with ugly black rims. Congratulations on a job well done.
Being a qualified light engine mechanic by trade , KTM race team mechanic and ex pro MX racer from Australia. I must commend you on the detail you went to on this restoration. Great job
Thank you!
i'm impressed. what a job especially since u were looking or all OEM parts. Most people would have been happy with some brembos & different plastics
Crazy build, you should be proud of yourself, I give you a 10/10 ❤
That's a proper job right there. Some amazing restoration of original abused parts.
I had an 86, its ridiculous what parts are obsolete.
After watching all the full length videos of this build I feel like I'm actually part of the 3 days of blood and pain that went into getting that original gastank the same exact color and texture as it once had in 1987. Merry Christmas. Beautiful bike.
Thank you. You all were! Happy new year
Wooooow
The factory would be proud of this restoration… renewing a classic for all time 👍🏼
Best restoration I’ve seen
Very impressive build, its great you restore almost everything and dont just buy new parts.
Fantastic, restoration well done for saving it.
Amazing video mate well done ❤❤
Absolutely incredible restoration.
Thanks Jim. Very kind sir
This is amazing! True talent and craftsmanship! You can be proud!!!
What a bike! the original widow maker! Cracking job!
slick work buddy awesome bike im in the middle of a 92 cr 250r build people don't understand how much work goes into a toy ❤
Yes it is stressful dodging the parts scammers but we push on because it’s worth it. Good luck on your build!
You’ve realised a long time dream of mine. Thanks for sharing. It’s a beauty.
You do beautiful work and I absolutely love how you restored The beast to All its glory, what a awesome build 😎👍😁
The only thing you should change about this video is where you said, "i think we did it.. No, you 100% did it, and holy shit did you do it. From what this started out as to what it ended up is right up there with the best restorations I've seen on UA-cam and trust me I've seen alot. Absolutely brilliant 👏
Top man thank you buddy
I am about to restore a 1992 Yamaha DT80. Love to see how many original parts you have saved!
Incredible job. Nice to see the old girl back from the dead. A fun video to watch. You have a new sub!
I literally said 'oooh yeah' out loud when you showed that shiny blue suspension! 😂
If I hadn't of watched it I wouldn't have believed it, amazing work.
Loved watching the build !
Absolutely amazing job of an iconic motocross bike
You sir are a master of your craft! Seriously impressed! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
.. Superb job !,.. Certainly a labour of love, ( looks just like my '87, too ).
Absolutely beautiful what a job you have achieved with this restoration on a dream bike of mine awesome job well done
Thank you 🙏
I owned one, I had it on a trailer, stopped for lunch, it was less than 20 metres from me! I came out and it was gone. A bystander said 4 men with a light truck pulled up, undid the bike and lifted it into the truck in less than 90 seconds. I’ve never had as much fun on a bike since I lost that bike, it was great, it suited me to a T.
Unbelievable..that is truly awful. These bikes simply cannot be left unattended. So sorry to hear this.
Your an artist with that work and you take a lot of pride in your work it shows keep it up man
Brilliant
Very beautiful restoration, very beautiful bike!!
Nice red is my favorite color
