    Give this director not just a trilogy, have him lead a new timeline ala like how heisei did. He wrote, directed and did the vfx so we need to see him do more. This is what you get from a Godzilla fan making a Godzilla movie

      This is so much(and more) what I was hoping for leading up to Gareth Edward's 2014 Godzilla and I left the theater liking the movie but disappointed at the same time. Only the Japanese could have REALLY made this kind of Godzilla with such emotional impact because of what they had been through and still feel today, generations later.

    They hinted at the ejection seat thing when Tachibana was working on the Shinden. He looked in the cockpit and the seat had German text on the back. Several late-war German aircraft (He-162, Ar-234, Me-163) had rudimentary ejection seats. Japan and Germany had a technology exchange going on. So when I saw the German text on the seat in the Shinden I knew they were setting it up for an ejection.
    The movie had a lot of little historical nods like this for us WWII nerds. Like all of the ships we see being historical survivors of the war - most notably Takao, Hibiki and Yukikaze. The attention to detail was refreshing.

    S/o to Tachibana. I almost chocked up when I saw him happy that Koichi survived. How a character that had like 30 minutes of screentime max could have such great character development is crazy.

      Also, nevermind...just realized this is a spoiler review and spoiler talk is OK. I just was remembering how emotionally gutted I was for the ending and then to see him finding her alive sent me into tears. I wouldn't want that to be spoiled for anyone. Probably why I stayed away from spoilers and went to first showing of the day😊

      Tachibana has a bit of a story arc to him too. When he comes to angrily beat Shikushima, he looks rather disheveled and angry. It's almost like he is a bit lost himself in this new postwar reality.
      Later, after repairing the plane he looks a lot more put together and tidy. It's like his role in enabling the defeat of Godzilla gives him a renewed purpose in life. His cooperation with Shikushima also helps him get over the war too.

    Dude, I was not expecting to get emotional over a Godzilla flim, but this got me. I remember the first Godzilla movie I cried in was the one he fought Destroyer, and that was when I was a little kid and thought he died. But in Minus, I actually cared about the people and wanted Godzilla defend. This was a masterpiece.

      Exactly yes Godzilla vs DESTROYHHH
      Yeah same I’ll never forget that there was so much emotion weight behind it considering the continuity and build up of this whole timeline since 1984 and the fact of what happens to Godzilla and Jr as much as I teared 😢 in GMO
      DESTROYHHHH still made me cry harder during the end I could not hold back my tears 😭 man
      And still is the only Godzilla film to have actually done that to me with that not in your throat and pain in your chest of disbelief.
      One day I hope Japan pulls that off again but it would take a long development time of years of another timeline for that

    • @thatjrpganimefanplayerjusi8003
      @thatjrpganimefanplayerjusi8003 6 місяців тому +1

      Yeah it’s because that’s what Godzillas story and tone and message originally was when it all started it’s why it’s the deepest he was a horrific power force message for nuclear war
      But with that said GMK 2001 even though it had other monsters in it and what Godzillas minus one took a lot from it with Godzilla attitude and it’s ending GMK really was the only Godzilla film where Godzilla killed literally and not just out of animal nature before GMO took that influence GMK really was the only other film to do that
      GMK was my favorite Godzilla film and still is to a certain degree.

    See I thought that when Tachibana was showing Shikishima the plane and he told him pull this to arm the bomb. I thought he was tricking him to pull the plunger that was the actual ejector seat and the bomb didn't need to be armed. It would have worked because they established the kamikaze planes had no ejector seats so Shikishima wouldn't know what a lever to launch one would look like, and its clear that Tachibana wants him to live but didn't seem to know how to tell him directly. The fact that he DID tell him directly here is the actual ejector switch, and that he should chose to live for those he has now rather than die for those he lost was awesome curveball to my theorizing in the moment

  • @MrStefanops
    @MrStefanops 6 місяців тому +3

    It was heavily hinted that the plane had an ejector seat before the final fight. We get one scene in which the Doctor says that the government made planes without ejector seats and another scene in which the mechanic is about show an updated he did to the plane before the camera cuts him off.

  • @Aust51989
    @Aust51989 6 місяців тому +7

    I knew that Koichi was going to ejection from the plane because the mechanic said he had to tell Koichi “2 things about the plane” and you can see the mechanic show Koichi something behind the pilot’s chair.

    • @cluelesslink16
      @cluelesslink16 6 місяців тому

      I liked that because it was just enough of a hint to what he may do later on. I feel it gets undercut a bit by the flashback after the fact. It hints at that being the case, gives the reveal of his survival but then tells the audience anyway. But that's just me.

    • @jurassisart
      @jurassisart 6 місяців тому +1

      I thought that he was trying to trick him, meaning that the mechanism not only sets up the payload but also ejects the pilot.

    • @MrStefanops
      @MrStefanops 6 місяців тому

      I also think it was very clear he had an ejector seat in the plane. Especially since the scene with the mechanic comes after a scene in which we are told the Japanese government made planes with no ejection.

  • @tombeh

    I'm so glad that they made a storyline to keep from getting America involved to "save the day" because this needed to be Japanese citizens fighting Godzilla on their own, and not America or even the Japanese government(who had deceived the citizens during the war plenty) doing it. It would have hurt the feel of the movie tremendously and they did what they could to explain it away. I thought the U.S./Russia excuse along with explaining all wartime planes, ships etc had been decommissioned. Besides all that, I loved this movie so GD much and can't believe a Godzilla movie got me involved in the Chara ters story to have me verklemptat times and then teary eyed and lightly sobbing at the end(woulda been bawling had i not been surrouned by others, of which so.e qere doing the same thing!). A GODZILLA MOVIE DID THIS?! This film needs to be accepted and honored when awards season comes around because it deserves a lot more than just special effects honors. Acting, directing, iud, screenplay etc were ALL top notch and deserving of those accolades. I'm telling you, if the lead actor isn't no.inated for acting awards, including the Oscars, I'm gonna go all out Godzilla!🙂

    A lot of the old movies implied his healing factor but we dont see it. He heals off screen or between movies because of the guy in the suit. Its why the oxygen destroyer that destroyed his cells can kill him or they resoort to freezing him to stop him. Im glad more modern movies can show his healing factor like in shin Godzilla. The boat scene was similar to Godzilla vs kong when he destroys the boat with his beam. I'm pretty sure the director likes the action scenes from the monsterverse especially since he directed Godzilla the ride and loves the toho films

When he looked at the pictures of the dead engineers, grabs his head and says " i know i know i know" he has voices telling him its all his fault. His "What if you all are just the dream of a dead man??!!" Delusions/psychosis from the trauma of war. One of the things that I love about this movie are the subtle things that many people didn't notice at all. First, the battle cruiser's guns slowly turning towards Godzilla even after the ship was ravaged shows how bad-ass humans can be despite the danger, and second, when people were running away from Godzilla and some random rich-looking lady stopped to pick up a child to save her, it showed that rich and poor humans are capable of doing small heroic good deeds even in the face of danger, unlike most disaster movies that I watched, which portray rich people as generally just assholes.

    Love this movie. It is my movie of the year for me. So glad I got to see it.
    When Tachibana was explaining to him how to arm the bomb, I felt he was also showing him the ejection seat instructions, unknowningly to the MC. They had earlier talked about to how their planes had no ejector seats so it seemed fitting a lost plane would have one.
    At first I hated that Tachibana explained it to the MC, that it had an ejector seat. I thought it would have been more fitting if he left it as a surprise, but now I see it as the MC choosing to live. Choosing to mature and grow from his past. So it is fitting now.
    And yes once I say the telegram come in, I already knew she survived. There would have been no other reason for that scene to be there.

    It is weird monsterverse gets slander for using the vs formula that got the series popular to begin with, and this idea "monsterverse doesn't know how to do a proper Godzilla movie" because it's not dark and depressing.
    A bit annoying we have two unique variations of Godzilla and instead of appreciating it, fans gotta make it a toho vs America thing instead of

    If a sequel does happen, it needs to take place decades later. Maybe the 1990’s? So that the new characters will have to research and seek out the first characters on how they defeated the monster.

    SPOILERS
    The haunting track Elegy combined with the buildup to the shot of Godzilla staring (people in the comments on other videos say he does so in admiration of what he’s done, and while I like that idea, the first impression I get is of casual innocence as he observes the effect of his destruction) at the mushroom cloud he just made is probably not just peak cinema for me, but peak anything ever.
    Been a Godzilla fan since I was four so this film has been a long time coming and the payoff is huge. Saw the movie sixteen times in theatre. We’re so fortunate to be Godzilla fans and alive in this time.

    Can we take a moment to appreciate that this movie is the first Godzilla movie ever (correct me if I'm wrong about this) that shows the "birth" of Godzilla. I don't mean him hatching out of an egg like his sons and that Tri Star opening doesn't count. We actually see Godzilla before he becomes Godzilla and then we see him get hit by the atomic bomb. This was something I didn't know I needed to see but glad that I did. Not to mention all the other great stuff that happened.

    Spoiler alert
    The technology was so janky but it made it so much better. Like when they pulled out a stack of maps I loved it, its the same thing we'd do today, but with a big screen instead.
    It really felt like they merged the first and second movies. But I feel like the pilots in Raids Again were actual fighter pilots and were able to get a nice gig like scouting for fisherman. Poor guy in this film was a disgraced pilot. It was a good contrasts. That long break to set up felt like the Raids again portion maybe while the first half was more like goji 54
    It pulled a lot from GMK, GVMBFE, and GPOM a bit too. It almost felt like it could have been a prequel to GMK.
    A big theme was just the way governments dont value life enough.
    I don't think this atomic blast was that strong. 2004 Godzilla blew up a moon/meteor. 2021 Godzilla blasted to the center of the Earth. Godzilla 90's had that red spiral ray and Godzilla Earth was just ridiculous.
    I wanted to see Godzilla vs the Pacific fleet, but I guess the United States wouldnt want to risk such an asset. Thats why Taiwan is still a thing. But they had a pretty low budget, I've heard around 15-20 mil. Compare that to legendary Godzilla movie budgets.
    I don't think theyll be a sequel. GMK, Shin, Tokyo SOS, Megaguirus and maybe more did the same
    I liked the happy ending, but... imagine everything after the kamikaze strike was just a dream in a dead man's final nerve impulses

    I don't think the fate of Noriko is what matters. What matters is what would happen if the government ever found out about this.
    Godzilla Minus One isn't about Japan going "-1", it's humanity itself that's going "-1".
    The movie makes it clear that humanity sucks. The US and Allied forces refused to help innocent people from the threat of Godzilla, even if said innocents were once enemies. Then, there's the government that refused to help their own people to deal with the threat. Instead of the world being united for peace, they remain divided and lash out at each other when the opportunity rises.
    The only exceptions to this are Shikishima, the veterans and civilians who all banded together to stop Godzilla. At the end, not only they earned their chance to rebuild but Shikishima gets a reward by having Noriko though she bears scars so as to remind him about the sins he and his brethren committed during the war.
    So, if the Us or most likely the Japanese Government ever learnt about Noriko's miraculous revival, they will no doubt go after Godzilla and revive him to become their weapon.
    While human life is finite but their penchant for conflict remains the same and with that, Godzilla will always be eternal.
