Can't wait to see this here in Portugal, comes out next week so iam hyped about it! The crazy thing is how much cool stuff we had in the 80's and 90's, there were new IP's that are still super huge nowadays, but the studios stoped betting on those... It's good to see Japan, South Korea and other countrys trying to do they're own thing and being sucessfull, i hope they can take down hollyweird and create new IPs and storys from all over the world. There are so many diferent cultures and with so many amazing types of stories we never even heard off, we just need to get the right people doing stuff!

Agree, CGI is good when it is not overdone. A bad example of this is another Disney movie, Prom Pact, which is released in March 2023. There is a scene where the background characters are CGI. Not even good CGI. Not to mention that scene was shot close up so there no way no one cannot notice it. Why can’t Disney just hire a few more extra actors for background? 😂
Saw it 3 times now. It outstands me that a Godzilla movie is doing this well. Been a hardcore Godzilla fan ever since my Grandmother gave me a vhs copy of the first movie and it makes me happy that this franchise is still striving almost a century now. This movie is just proof that it won't slow down any time soon

Went to see it this weekend. As someone who grew up on the classic 50's and 60's VHS Godzilla movies, I can say this definitely brought those nostalgic feelings back. Excellent film.

These marvel movies just looked terrible and lack the story. Practical effects go a long way an modern cgi is just 1 dimensional visual noise. “Woke-ism” is a lazy trope and excuse. Yes it can be annoying but it isn’t why these movies are failing: they fail due to their own systemic failure of imagination and story.

So Geekdown I saw it last night after seeing the hype about it and saw you made it think 4 videos on it. My friend gave it a 20/10 😆 so I was like F it let me see it 🤷🏽♂️. OMG….. it was an amazing story and experience for me from start to finish. I predict a few scenes but only the hospital scene I didn’t see that coming at the end. I will say seeing it in 4DX was a bit much for me 🙃. I never seen a 4DX movie before and I heard it fun but OMG I felt like whoever designed the motion for the chairs to move when Godzilla would throw you around wanted you fall out of your seat 😆. I seen one girl had popcorn flying up in the air and another guy spilled his drink on his lap. It was very intense and felt like I was on a damn roller coaster 🙃. I put my large drink on the floor because I didn’t want it to splash open on me lol. It was my 1st time seeing the movie and made it a bit of distraction for me because (maybe I’m over exaggerating it) I had to have a death grip on the seat handles 😆. Maybe if they installed chest harness I would feel more secure and not scared to fall out of my seat especially if it threw me forward. The Regal worker told me the handicap seats has a lap seat belt but I doubt that would because I would either A) have bad stomach pains or B) slip out of it 😆.
Overall the movie was amazing, the story telling was outstanding and you felt the pain, love, hurt and all the emotions in one. I plan on seeing it again with my dad but not in 4DX because I know he wouldn’t enjoy it since he is 64 and I’m 34 now 😆. I will see it in IMAX tho just “Minus One” of the seats shaking and throwing you around lol
Now I’m glad I didn’t see it in 4dx lol, imax was awesome though. I saw it twice in imax and once in Dolby cinema and imax was definitely better.

Grossed $52 million after 2 weekends in the West and one month in Japan. Yeah, it didn't destroy anything, quite the opposite, this movie did worse than Shin Godzilla while also costing twice as much, but Godzilla fanboys are too biased to count 1+1 and see a clear picture 😂. Moving on.

Too many people define "wokeness" as exclusively intersectionality, which is a big part of it. But the part that people don't talk about is that wokeness is an inherently angry and grievance-based worldview. Wokeness taught Hollywood to be hostile towards its own audience, which is exemplified by the media's coverage of Ghostbusters 2016 and The Last Jedi. Also pretty much modern Disney's entire approach of trying to shape the audience to their liking instead of giving the audience a good story. In that respect, even moreso than all of the pandering put together, wokeness did kill Hollywood. People don't want to pay to watch a Hollywood writer's therapy session.
I saw the movie and I loved it. The characters all blend well together. That's what I think is missing. We got to know each character that was presented from the pilot to Godzilla himself. I'm a minority and I love that representation is presenting itself more and more but sometimes it does feel like padding. I heard the rumor about F4 and why Pascal was most likely chosen. If the rumor is true I'm not feeling that at all. Godzilla is very political in this certain story but that side of the story mixes well with the drama and action. Now there were some issues I had with this movie but it didn't take my enjoyment of it. 8.5/10.

It's just nice to have a Godzilla movie that isn't just liked by hardcore fans, but the generally public. What's even better is it's a more serious movie from Japan subtitled, and even still general moviegoers are still showing up to watch it. I always knew a Godzilla could be this good with updated effects, and now finally it's here. I've seen the movie 4 times now in theatres always bringing someone with me. My friend came two days in a row and he's no godzilla fan, that's how much this movie is resonating with people. It's not just a good Godzilla movie, it's a good movie that's well made all around.
Problem is hollywood focus on cgi but neglected storytelling, plus hollywood studios have stop making movies that entertained but rather current hollywood movies became propaganda outlet for out of this world liberal ideas. Im sure theres is a market for people who lived by these liberal ideas but its only a very tiny portion of the cinema going public, the rest still retains the same values, culture that they have grown up with. People experiencing being told that woke culture, lgbt+-/* lifestyle is good and should be embrace are very much turned off by this. Its not like hollywood is the only source of movies and entertainment in the current world, other countries especially asian contents have advanced so much that made people shift their where they get entertainment needs. Advancing and more affordable CGI tech coupled with traditional values, great storytelling, movies with heart quickly captured the attention of global viewers. Unless hollywood realized their mistakes, hollywood's relevance in global entertainment will quickly diminish

I saw it again for the second time yesterday, after talking my sister and her family into going. They all thought it was great too, and they’re pretty normie.
I think that I’m going to G-Fest this year, in hopes that maybe they’ll work out 4DX screenings of this and GxK.
I’ve got to say though, if Legendary is really intent on embracing the Showa-era silliness, I really wish that they’d put the guy who directed Skull Island in some sort of supervisor/advisory role over the entire Monsterverse. I feel like it struck the right balance between humor and monster brutality. It felt like more of a proper Jurassic Park-style adventure than pretty much all the Jurassic sequels.
I’ve seen the movie twice, and it still blew me away the second time. There were some politics in this movie, but the trick was that it wasn’t anything divisive, it criticized dying for lost cause and celebrated the will to live (Japan has a big suicide rate problem) and the human characters were just so likable. I hate to jump on that train, but I truly do feel like Western films have been so focused on representation, that they’ve gotten lazy with character development, making sure x,y, and z are casted is top priority and with the assumption it will draw more people.
There's something I've noticed that no one seems to be talking about: the movie poster and the statement its making. Obviously we know the movie IS titled Godzilla Minus One, so why is the Movie poster this Japanese brush stroke abstract representation of Godzilla (his tail sweeping up over his head) and - 1.0 instead of just - 1?
I'd like to believe that this was a deliberate statement like a software version reset. That this is effectively Godzilla version 1.0. I could be way off base but I love that idea of making that kind of statement taking Godzilla back to its original intent

I Felt like I understood the characters and I didn't need any of them to represent me in race or sexuality in order to connect with them. No forced agendas. It was just a pure Un-American story telling at it's best. I loved it.

U don't get the point. The point is the movie had better effect and plot than the modern marvel and flash movie and that all cost less than those films.
I like this take. Minus One has what Barbie and Oppenheimer had, heart. That’s something Disney has been missing out on, especially with all these live action remakes. They’re alright to a degree but it’s stuff like “Encanto”, “Moana”, and “Spider Man: No way home” that people want. I hope Godzilla will serve as a wake up call for them and they’ll sort themselves out and start making stuff that’s at least likable.

The reason why the film resonated with so many Americans is because the themes are very human. PTSD, depression, anxiety and how the country got hope to move on despite the hopelessness of their situation. It’s a story about men the bravery , taking care of family , providing for family and yourself . It’s truly a great film and very human

The problem I see with wokeness is that it shows the human nature of not being able to relate or care about something that is not like you... even though is actually trying to do the opposite. When it is overdone or forced it starts to send the wrong message and do the complete opposite. "Oh you didnt like it because of the inclusion? then you are unable to relate to people that are not like you" when in reality is more like we didnt care about the character regardless of race or gender, but woke people try to make it seem like race and gender are the problem

Godzilla Minus One is a Great Movie. The final confrontation felt like watching Gohan defeat Cell when I was seven years old.
The fact that the director waited 16 years to make a Godzilla film (with the cameo in Always 2 and also the ride) and just dropped peak is such a giga chad move.

The people on strike were trying to protect themselves from future potential advancements in AI. But right now there's nothing to be afraid of at all. It's extremely limited and barely even works half the time people somehow unironically think Terminator 2 is on the horizon, it's not. As for Hollywood, being too corporate literally how has it not always been? What do you even define as corporate? I'm pretty sure the biggest companies at the time had their hands in Hollywood in the 70s and 80s. And probably throughout all time because it's a profitable source of income. Profitable things always have people with money a part of it.

I have seen numerous Godzilla films since I was kid in the 60’s and this is by far the best one. This film transcends the monster genre. This film is much more than a Godzilla film. Godzilla is not on the screen for large parts of the movie. It’s the human characters and their struggle and development that makes this film. Just as in the original Star Wars it’s the heroes journey that makes the story so successful. Jaws was like that as well, the shark was not on screen for large parts of that film it was more about Sherriff Brody and how he and a rag tag group take on a threat to the people they care about. This film was essentially the same story.
Godzilla Minus One was amazing! And I agree with you. But I think in large part it’s the woke critics who have forced the studios hands. They can’t risk bad rotten-tomatoes scores so it’s almost as if studios went out and hired a bunch of diversity and inclusion experts to make sure they’re checking off all the boxes. I’m sure there was a good story somewhere in the beginning but by time some of these block buster movies come out they’ve been butchered so much it leaves nothing for character development. Which disconnects the audience from the story. Not to mention the majority of Marvel/Disney/Lucas/DC films movies are formulaic and uninteresting.
Don't forget about the mario movie being the only animated film since 2019 to actually hit a billon and across the spiderverse being a hit as well well not at the same box office 1 billon but still was a big hit with 600 or 700 millon and also barbie as well being the only live action toy film as well to hit 1 billion so we had hits beside godzilla minus being a hit and even the fnaf movie that was realse both in streaming and theaters is doing really well hitting 300 millon being the best horror film of 2023 and even the fnaf movie had customs and didn't use cg the entire time which is a key element into things starting to change and with writers and actors strikes ending and getting paid more I guess mabey another redemption era is coming soon or more indie films I guess

People aren't tired of Superhero films, they just are fed up with BAD Superhero films. Guardians 3 & Spiderverse proved that.
Also I feel once Hollywood doubled down on their political agendas (especially after Harvey was exposed) that's when we saw Hollywood take a nosedive. It was no longer about telling a good story, it became more about preaching their political views. Until Hollywood gets their heads out of their asses this will continue to be the trend unfortunately.

Seeing Geekdom geek out over what I grew up with is awesome! This is how Godzilla was intended. That being said, I grew up with serious Godzilla and campy Godzilla, but they have both returned in my adulthood and I’m totally here for it! Great to be 34!

I'm so glad we got a great movie like GMO because almost all Japanese movies are treated even worse than Disney in production. They're often based on comic books that sold well to reduce time and money spent on scenarios. What the Japanese call "production committees" only use movies to showcase new or pretty idols with almost no acting experience and no training and shortcuts vital essence from the original plot, often making them completely incomprehensible. They don't care about making movies any good because watching the same movies repeatedly won't profit them as much. Flashy instant consumables are far more profitable for movie companies, I guess. If movies are food, most Japanese movies are like sugar. You can't even call them food. At least Disney's woke BS movies provoke anger from audiences, which is doing something. Godzilla Minus One is a really rare exception, and it happened because the movie was targeted at international audiences, and we care about shame and embarrassment when we make things for outside countries. I don't know what's happening in China or Korea, but, to me, they're doing far better jobs than we Japanese are doing.
That’s rather interesting. Most movies I’ve seen from Japan have been excellent. Even the live action movie of Space Battleship Yamato was a fun time and perfectly comprehensible (I hadn’t seen/read either the anime or manga it was based on). Admittedly, most Japanese movies I’ve watched are older, so I’m not getting a good sample for today. I’m a bit surprised by the filmmakers’ thinking like that, though. You could make plenty of money via physical disc sales and digital downloads, more if you make a quality product that can be turned into a series of films. I tend to ignore pure “sugar” films because if they’re not worth watching at least twice they’re not worth watching once. Nothing needs to be superb, but acting needs to be at least passable (and I’ve got a decently low threshold for that) and there needs to be no major plot-holes.
I'm so glad this was a transcendent experience for you. This is what I hope for people who watch the future Ghost of Tsushima adaptation. The video game blew my mind, and Godzilla Minus One is the first time in years I had a similar level of hype for a project. Ghost will likely be in Japanese, so Minus One broke the ground with American audiences to get ready for that

I’m a major Godzilla fan and I was worried that I had hyped it up too much in my head and it would never live up, but this is such a good film I was still blown away by it. This is the first Godzilla film where I don’t have to say it’s a good “Godzilla movie” it’s a straight up great movie. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen a film in theaters that made me feel anything, to have it be Godzilla is just icing at this point. My mom, who hates Godzilla movies, loved it enough to go again two days later, so I think at the very least you will enjoy it. If you can go in blind to the plot for the most part I think it will be better
It amazes me seeing how far something like Godzilla has come, considering how often the heart is there but not the budget, or the budget was there without heart. Look how good something can be when both heart AND budget (or even a fraction of which) are there. 👏👏👏👏 bravo
