    Soap & Clay is a family owned business operating in Washington State, but started out online thanks to Mrs. Soap & Clay's kickass brother and his amazing web design skills. The business was started as a tribute to Mrs. Soap & Clay's grandmother, the OG maker in the family that cultivated everyone's love for the DIY life. The studio/retail shop opened in 2017 on 6th Ave in Tacoma, and immediately began teaching soap, bath bomb, lotion, and scrub classes to the makers and maker enthusiasts of the PNW. In 2019, the pottery studio opened as well, making the soap shop a busy place full of artistic energy every minute of the day.
    Mrs. Soap & Clay has been featured on Business Spotlight, New Day Northwest, and was awarded a coveted place on the South Sound's 40 under 40 list in 2019, an award given to the most influential business people under the age of 40 each year. She cried when she walked up to the podium to accept the award. A lot.
    Drawing from her chemistry background and her maker spirit, Mrs. Soap & Clay infuses her favorite things into her soapy designs and creates products that are fun to see, use, and learn to make. Stick around for this ride - she'll take you on a great one.

    I love that you have a voice and can call attention to mean people. I started soaping a few months ago...A welcome distraction after my son was injured (complicated issue) and it made national news. The cruelty changed me. I wish i had a voice....on another note, I use ocean water with citric acid in my soap. My hubby is a lobster fisherman and just brought me home lemon weed. It smells exactly like lemon! Im excited to try it :)

      @@virginiaschott4482 - isn't Mrs Soap, the most? She's amazing, and I absolutely love her in so many ways.. I would not be where I'm at, doing the things I'm doing, without her and her advice... And as for mr dude, there's absolutely not a single place in any Soap space on the interwebs, where, a Brand New anything, would instantly be given recipes. There's no way, no matter what you say or how you ask, Nice or not, where, you would be instantly given anything but some seriously stronge tongue lashings of etiquette and manners, and recipe formulas are intellectual products, Born of time, effort, energy, research and development. And my only other comment on this, I noticed his name, and discussing this with hubbster, as he was watching with me, we're both wondering if he's such a do it all, Why or WHY - ? Couldn't he just do it himself?

    i appreciate all the information you provide us for FREE, especially with all the tests you do to show us the results of the experiments you do. you do what's more important than just share a recipe. you explain how the ingredients work so that we are empowered to formulate our own work of art. ironically, you share SO many recipes with us i have no idea what this dude is complaining about. also... i haven't seen ANY "female soap maker drama" at all, the community is so helpful towards each other and we always support each other to help reach our goals. thank you ms soap and clay for everything you do for us and spoiling us with videos every day... i've never seen any content creators so dedicated!

    Dude soaper here. This is my first comment to your channel and I wanted to say thank you ! I've been following you since I don't know maybe two years, and it took me some time to fully enjoy your channel due to the sciency side of it. I have to learn each new technical term and process it and translate with my french brain. But lately I found myself watching much more your videos, I love that you experiment all of these things, to me you already give a lot. Unfortunately, some persons are only takers. They take and they take, and when you put some limit you are the mean person. And to relate to the subject, in almost four years of soapmaking I have never felt the need to beg some soap recipe as I am able to formulate one myself, that's the base of soap making, isn't it ? What's the point to know exactly what oils you use? If one wants to put some f**king banana peel to soap, do your random recipe and put the f**king banana peel in it. Et voilà, you are a big boy you made your banana soap and can be proud of it. And if someone absolutely wants to beg, why not first say hello and thank you ? Oh I forgot we are in 2024, respect is dead ! The fact that some random dude is bashing another person over a soap recipe is beyond ridiculous and it says it all about that DoItAllwhatever....
    I stopped posting on Facebook soap groups almost two years ago because you know, toxic people are everywhere.
    But that guy attitude is over the top drama queen level.
    Dude, we people didn't came out your belly, that fact is proof that you are NOT our mother. So the world doesn't owe you anything, go figure out some soap recipe, please.
    But I digress. Anyway, love your channel. Merci 😊

    I made a 25 lb seamoss soap with pureed seamoss I added to my oils and it came out perfect; no specks. I did add water to the seamoss to get that creaminess needed to the puree. It's key. Thrilled you kept with it and tried many ways to determine which method is most effective.

    If people want free recipes there are loads out there. My take from these test videos is to see the effect something has and if you're interested you can try adding it to your own soap. If you truly like soap making then part of the fun is testing it out for yourself anyway. Learning the different properties and deciding if that's something you want to add. It's part of the reason I'm still only a hobby maker. In the UK we need to have a set recipe that is tested if we want to sell but I enjoy trying out different things too much to want to make the same recipe all the time. I think as well that when you get to a certain point you can look at ingredients and know what someone is adding to their soap if you felt like trying out something different. It's absolutely entitled to demand the amounts but it also serves no purpose in the long run, people want and need different things from soap. I'm currently looking into canola oil more due to the increase in olive oil and the video you did a few months ago was very helpful!

    I so appreciate your willingness to share your knowledge. Your teachings of why and how to formulate my own. As a brand new soap maker with a sister who makes soap, she told me to figure out what I wanted. I had to figure out my recipe and then she would come to my house and show me how to make it. That is all the information she gave me. Each time I talked with her she would ask me if I had it figured out yet. In hindsight I’m glad she did that, though at the time I was just frustrated as other soap makers I was watching didn’t teach how to do this, and I had never made soap before, let alone come up with my own recipe. That’s how I found you. It was your video on how to use soap calc and what a balanced bar of soap looks like, and all the information you gave there that I was finally able to formulate my very first recipe. I made my first batch of soap three weeks ago. I did all the things as a first time soap maker that I have since learned is recommended to wait. I used tea for half of my liquid, another one of your videos, and oat milk for the other half. I divided the soap batter in half and added clay to it, and used the handle of a spoon to do a swirl. I used a 4” mold and I don’t quite understand the CPOP process as of yet, and so I put it in my bread proofer to keep warm. I even made lotion bars from your formulation video. I appreciate the videos that you do share recipes in, as I have been learning from these. Combining these with your formulation videos, gives me a confidence and knowledge in moving forward I would never of had otherwise. By the way my soap turn out great, and so did the lotion bars. Thank you! (I didn’t call my sister to come help me make my very first batch, I just went for it, she loves four hours away:)

    Love your attitude! The misogyny that was all over every single message from that incel absolutely deserves to be called out. I'm not usually here for the drama but I'll admit it, I've got the popcorn. Now for the seamoss! What a labour ... I've definitely turned down the seamoss gel company who've asked me to develop a seamoss soap. I certainly haven't got this kind of patience.

    • @MrsSoapAndClay
      @MrsSoapAndClay  5 місяців тому

      Yeah I generally let the drama and “haters” take themselves out, but when it crosses a line into full blown harassment? Oh I’m addressing it. 😂 The seamoss was annoying until I got some that actually worked, so it was definitely a test of patience.

      @MrsSoapAndClay Hey, I have wondered?? Have you heard the "Aleppo" soap is supposed to cure for over 9 months? I weigh my soaps & when they stop losing weight, I call them good. I have set aside a batch of my semi Aleppo soap for the 9 month cure to see any difference. What do you think about this time frame for curing? 🤔

    • @MrsSoapAndClay
      @MrsSoapAndClay  5 місяців тому +1

      Yeah, so I started this Aleppo soap testing thing and never finished it on the channel. The Aleppo soap I made sat for 6 months before it stopped losing weight. I did use my standard 2.4x water so I could have cut down some cure time if I had used a water reduction.

    Some guys are just A$$es. I am sorry that you had to experience that. My husband watched your video and he thinks those guys have a problem, yes they probably don't like females and they have other problems as well. I just want to let you know that I have been watching your videos for a few years. You have inspired me to even tile my bathroom and then my kitchen backsplash. I am a soap maker too. I sell to local markets in my area. I attend a few shows a year and I love making good stuff. Your videos just are so real and so inspiring. I don't really enjoy watching men make soap. I enjoy Brambleberry, MO Soap, ER Soap, Holly, Sarah, Ophelia, so many great makers. Oh yea the Thermal Mermaid is amazing too. I have to say that Soap and Clay is one of the best. Keep your head up and just know that you really put this Jim guy in his place.
