this game had some impressive mechanics, especially for when it came out. imagine the puzzles and possibilities for a game based around this wire weapon! Also, I liked kurenai, she had more characterization than i expected. when i picked up sekiro this and tenchu were the first things that came to mind

Duuuude! Thank you so much for making this. This is the ultimate Sekiro game before Sekiro. I loved the boss fights, sneak kills, and story! Especially the story, very unique.

I played this when I was a kid. I still have the case and disc for it on Xbox. It was genuinely, legit one of my favorite games ever in the time! I just remembered it existed yesterday and I think of it extremely highly and fondly (even if I don't remember the story, but my memory's bad)!!! Thank you for covering this game. I would be stoked if Red Ninja did come back, even remembering the game gave me immense joy

This game might return now since it's owned by Microsoft. All it takes is 1 internal studio to be interested in the IP since MS usually allows developers to choose what they want to work on.

Thank you for shading a positive light on the game, instead of just talking bad about its because I loved it!
yes it was hard, but that was part of the charm, it was a huge part of my childhood and hands down my fav ps2 game.
    Thank you
and I agree with you, if this game goes to the right hands, it will be a killer!

I played through the game twice back in the ps2 days. Still have fond memories of it. I even bought a 1/6 scale resin figure of Kurenai (MC)which was my first introduction into the world of resin figures.

I miss games like this! Now it seems so expensive to develop games for the consoles that we’ll never get ones like this again. Do you still have the resin figure?

I like it, I mean it aint no NinjaGaiden or Tenchu. But it was very interesting and fun stealth mechanic. Seductive and Wire decapitate moves.

This game was hot mess... Did you even get through the first 3 missions?
If you did you'll know first hand that the controls are half-assed, the camera is atrocious and the platforming is not well implemented at all, this game easily has one of the most frustrating platforming sections of any game of its generation and oh boy, don't even get me started on some of the boss fights. Unfair, full of nonsense, unpredictable patterns and the occasional WTF moment where the boss stops moving and adopts a T-pose for the rest of the fight...
This game was panned back in the day for those reasons, among others you mentioned during the review.
It had a lot of untaped potential, but every ingame action and gimmick that they tried to implement failed miserably.
If you're looking for a hidden gem, look elsewhere, 'cause there's nothing here but a pretty cover and a broken game.

I would love to see Kurenai come back in a new Red Ninja. They would have to bump up the violence, bump up the stealth and bump up the sex appeal/seduction.
In today's market, people would go wild!
Some screaming and crying saying it's made for perverts, and the opposite side throwing their money at the screen because it completely goes against the virtue signalers.

Main thing holding this game back is the clunky camera and movement controls, imo. The stealth mechanics and tetsugen are fun, and dedicated/faithful kunoichi games seem to have been rare, even back then. Honestly a bit depressing to hear so many old reviews focusing on the one-off seduction 'mechanic'. Would rather hear more about what made the game good, instead of what someone wanted the game to be.

I always wanted to play this game ever since it was first announced, but then the reviews came out stating exactly what you said.
Fast forward to 2023, I've recently downloaded it on PCSX2, and... yeah. Holy living Zeus are the controls and camera bad. It's like a PS1 game masquarding as a PS2 game when it comes to platforming (which is 90% of the game). The combat is hit or miss (literally), and the stealth... isn't stealthy. Had the dev team taken the mechancis of the game as serious as they tookKuronai's design, we definitely would have seen at least a couple sequels out of them instead of an immediately closed studio.

Yo, can we all like sign a pettiton or something and send it to the (rights owner) company?
I had an idea while watching your video.
You mentioned YUNA in Ghosts of Tsushima
In a DLC, YUNA like JIN discovers shnobi talents....and is self-trained
by markers hidden throughout the landscape by non other than
    (Kekka no mai)
When YUNA finds all markers and finishes training
she must defeat the last of the shinobi zombies or creatures that
Red Ninja Kurenai killed so long ago.
In order to get that sexy fucking red (Geisha) outfit !!
But then YUNA ain't that pretty, Perhaps she has a daughter who finishes the quest? , LMAO !!

I bought my own ps2 in 2021 to play several classic ninja games including this one.
Personally, I really love to play around with steel wire assassin and seduction kill in this game. It's so unique. The game has some annoying flaw but I still play this game today. I even bought the beautiful resin figure of Kurenai from e2046 website and hire a local to paint it. Satisfaction 👍
I hope we will at least get another kunoichi game in this era with steel wire technique and seduction kill too. The enemy look so stupid once they think with their desire 🤣

    • @prime1773

@@projectfear22 Ghost of Tsushima and Sekiro is a great shinobi game. Sekiro has what they said 'steep learning curve' it's really difficult at first but becomes awesome once you know how to play parry at least and make use of the ninja tool. This game is really, really punishing though.
Ghost of Tsushima is also a great shinobi game with easy gameplay. You can play with your own creativity on how to execute stealth kill or just samurai fight.
Next year ninja game that you can look forward to will be Assassin's Creed Red. Not much detail has been revealed yet but all I learned is that we will play as either a kunoichi (female ninja) or a sumo style protagonist.

i bought the game back on ps2 era and still have it... problem is my controll is so damaged that can´t play the game mechanic´s at full... Most problem that kinda ruined for me was that the game had a level upper for the weapons whose never is able to max them all since the title does not have a replay missions function.

I remember quitting this game when I got to the point of having to fight the snake bitch. Pretty much I couldn't get the timing right for fighting the snake and freeing the girl. It got really frustrating and I put it down for a bit then picked something else up and kind of didn't go back to it.
Kind of kicking myself on that because it was overall a fairly interesting game and I really enjoyed using the wires.
