I don’t hear many people talk about Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction, which is a real shame. It looks like a GTA knock of set in North Korea, but it’s actually a fantastic 3rd person shooter with a fantastic open world, lots of weapons to play with, tons of cool vehicles, and a fully destructible world. You play as a mercenary, who is charged with taking down a dictator, and his 51 henchmen, represented by a deck of cards. You’re given an objective, how you complete it is totally up to you.

Oni was so good!! I'm honestly shocked it sold so poorly. Maybe the marketing just wasn't there. I had only ever heard about it because my uncle owned it.
I never played it, there was always so many (like way more than any other) copies of it in the used section of my local games store. I just assumed it must be a bad game.
Emulating the PS2 games on a PC with higher resolution graphics configured is one of the most satisfying things in gaming history. It's nostalgia with high quality.
Nobody ever mentions the mostly linear rpg Draken, And The Ancient Gates. Great airborne dragon riding combat, neat magic casting function where you draw in the air with the analog stick, archery, small and heavy melee weapon builds, lots of weapons and armor, various enemy types, female lead character, interesting story, multiple world climates... I really miss that game.
Without Roadkill, I never would have meet my best friend because of it. We literally became friends because with both found out we had Roadkill during class back in the 4th grade, along with 2 others. To this day We are still best friends
PS2 had a LOT of underappreciated games. Mad Maestro! was a rhythm game that went in for classical music. Why no one wants to touch that genre with a ten meter cattle prod, despite a huge catalog that would cost nothing to license, is beyond me. I'll see your "Through the Fire and the Flames," and raise you one "1812 Overture." Baroque was an unapologetically tough post-apocalyptic roguelike. It was weird, it was wonderful, and I miss it. G1 Jockey 3 got a Western port, and this was all about the racing, the horses, and the characters. You'd think a horse racing RPG-light would be a snoozer, but you'd be wrong.
As a person that is both a fan of metal, as well as classical, music, Dragonforce simply is a much more complex version of even the most complex of classical music, and, were they to have existed at the time when classical music existed, then their songs would be among the most complex of classical music songs that were ever made. Basically, think of the most complex classical music that was ever composed, and dial that to 11, and that is Dragonforce.
@@paxhumana2015 Not saying Dragonforce is in any way bad. I'm just saying that, in a theoretical classical music video game, conducting the "1812" would make for one heck of a "final boss" kind of piece (which is the basis for my comparison). 15 minutes long, bells, artillery, and even a choir, depending on the arrangement...it's a lot to keep straight. Gamers don't have fifteen minutes to spare for a single piece, so this theoretical game would focus on shorter pieces like, say, Pachelbel's Canon, or Mountain King, or Fanfare For the Common Man. See what I'm getting at?
I remember playing Oni back in the day. The combat mechanics were legit amazing. My favorite move is you run towards the enemy, grab his head while jumping, using your momentum and centrifugal force to twist his head 360 degrees. 3:p

I got ONI from my parents for Christmas. I really wanted Max Payne, but they could not get it here in Slovakia at that time. So they got me ONI. What a blast of a game no one never knew about around me it was. Really great game. This is literally the first time i heard someone mention it in this time. Thank you for bringing it up.
I've recently played Kya: Dark Lineage again. The fighting and platform mechanics still hold up imo. It's a shame that the lack of a dynamic story and a seemingly endless amount of 3D platformers in that era kept that game from getting the attention it deserves.
Fun fact: MDK 2 was made by Bioware, their last game that wasn't an RPG. Anyway, I believe a ton of these games simply lived under the shadow of Ratchet & Clank.
some really good choices. i-ninja was fun, metal arms kinda reminded me of ratchet and clank. grim grimoire looks as beautiful today as it did so many years ago.
Yes, we did play I-ninja, it was funny, exciting, and pretty challenging all in one game, I especially loved the dialogue because he was so cute and a little bit edgy, like when he would yell "I-ninja!!!!!"
duuuuuude whiplash! I used to have this sacred copy that I would hang onto any time we moved or anything. it stayed with me. the case looked like it got ran over by 50 cars. sick game.
I remembered. Playing both Sufferings, Urban Reign, Red Star, Max Payne, Time splitters 1-3, Killzone, Deads to rights, Time crisis 2-3, Black, Freedom fighters, GTA, XIII, Onimusha, Killswitch, and killer 7. Amazing games
ONI was fun as hell. i remember i had the demo on PC, and then i saw it for PS2 and had to buy it and glad i did. that game has so many cheats that its just fun to mess around with everything. you can literally change everything!!! when you change characters you gain their move set. you can have different actors in cutscenes, and you dont need action replay or gameshark for this. its all in game when games actually were fun lol
I saw acopy of Snoopy vs the Red Baron at a place that sold used books, games and movies. I didn't get it right away and when i went back a few days later, it was gone. Good grief.
Primal is another one that most people haven't played that was pretty good. It was basically the predecessor to the modern Sony movie game like Last of Us and God of War.
@@lonewolffangI bought a huge lot of Ps1 and PS2 games from the flea market a couple months ago, and mr. Mosquito was one of the games. I never heard of it before I got it.
Sure do. My big brother and I would always play that game when we were kids. He would also kick my ass with that Robo-47 monster and its Atomic missile, but it was fun.
I've been on and off playing an extremely rare JRPG called Baroque. The first game had very bizarre visuals and characters compared to the re-release, which boasted a more "anime" visual approach, but all still the same premise and game mechanics. I highly recommend anyone to check it out.
MDK2 is a seriously hidden gem. I loved that game so much and played through multiple times back then even on harder difficulty levels. The concept of saving one hero by the hand of another who have been kidnapped afterwards by the aliens was a great experience of this sequel of MDK came out in the 90s. Nonetheless, we could also play 2 extra characters with their own unique playstyle and oh god, the dialogue is GOLDEN! MDK3 will just never gonna happen as much as I see this game. No chance regarding that, no matter how great of a successor it was in my childhood.
great list alot of games i never heard of so im going to need to pick up. ps2 days largely missed as was 17 - 25 then and got abit busy for gaming then picked back up at 25 and in my 40s love gaming more than ever now
I played NOLF on the PC when it first released, which is the superior and the original version. I keep hoping Monolith Studios, which are still in business, revives the franchise and makes NOLF 3. Cate Archer deserves a comeback!
you unlocked a memory with i-ninja. completely forgot about it then as soon as you showed it i instantly remembered playing it and enjoying the hell out of it
This Bungie fan boy played Oni. Pathways to Darkness, Marathon and the first two installments of Myth were my favorite games in high school. Was pretty devastated when they sold out to MS. Haven’t been the same since, while Halo still had some of the magic it was clear the visionaries had cashed out and left. Valuable life and why it doesn’t piss me off anymore when a company sells out. We already lost the best of them in 00.
Some of the games are games from my childhood that I have played, for example I Ninja, Snoppy vs Red Baron, and Rumble Racing. All three games are really fun and great to play! 👍
I'd settle for No One Lives Forever being released on Steam or GOG, but apparently the rights to the games have gotten so involved in corporate acquisitions and mergers that it's unclear who owns them. Nightdive Studios tried to do a remake of the games like they have for System Shock and other games years ago and even got their hands on the source code, but couldn't get the license settled.
For me, Chaos Legion was a pretty cool game overshadowed by Devil May Cry. It had its faults. Hard mode had some enemies that were just stupidly spongy, but I liked it a lot. It was very frustrating, because I remember a review at the time from one of the big sites being 'Its too easy' when they obviously played on easy difficulty, due to some of the things they complained about being more of situations associated with easy mode.
No mention of Pirates The legend of Black Cat in my opinion 1 of the most underrated games on ps2 you could explore different island, find treasure, fight pirates, banshees, skeleton warriors, upgrade your ship and have great ship battles. I still love to play it even now. It's also on the original Xbox 😄
There was a point I was convinced I was the only person on earth to play Kya. Thank you for covering this hidden gem I poured so many hours of my life into ❤️
Kings field 4 was a game I loved that was completely dumped on in reviews when it came out that honestly now is a really good game. You move like a slug but the atmosphere is absolutely brilliant.
I played so much No One Lives forever on pc as a kid. Finally picked up the ps2 version on clearance in 2005 . Also know everyone one of these. Usually we're in the $2-10 range for games I'd pick up at gamestop.
Radiata Stories. I hold out hope that it gets remade/remastered, but it is one of my favorite games of all time, easily one of the most unique J-RPGs on the PS2
Lol funny how the first game you place on the list is one if my favorite childhood games. Me and my cousins would be up all night passing the controller because it was so hard back then
The Mark of Kri. You play as a Polynesian warrior out for revenge for the destruction of his tribe. The animation reminds me of Don Bluth and the gameplay predates the Arkham series. By moving the right analog stick, each opponents will have a symbol of the face buttons. So you can fight different enemies at once. Loved that game when it came out and brought it again on the ps store. Hope I can still access it.
I was poor af as w kid, but my gramma got me a playstation magazine subscription and to this day my favorite memory of gaming was getting the demo disks every month and playing the shit out of games i knew id never be able to buy. Drakengard, chaos legion, ininja, spyro, destroy all humans, the bouncer. there were some bangers that i never experinced more than like 20 minutes of but played them every day for years.
@mojoplays, fun fact, Seek and Destroy (which is also the title of a classic song by Metallica, by the way), is actually a part of the Choro Q franchise, which began with the game that is called City Connection (and is now also the name of the successor video game company to the old video game/mega-conglomerate company that was called Jaleco). The Japanese name of the game translates to True Combat: Choro Q, so, yes, the English name of the game is a lot better. Also, in my list of my own twenty good picks for the PS2, I mention a few good war based video games that are criminally overlooked as well. Finally, Seek and Destroy/True Combat: Choro Q reminds me of a more primitive version of World of Tanks. I also mentioned two other games that were in the franchise that also got NTSB-U releases as well in my Honorable Mentions list, namely, Gadget Racers/Choro Q HG, and Road Trip/Choro Q HG 2.
Grim Grimoire is excellent! It doesn't look it, but it actually plays similarly to Starcraft, in fact a developer cited Starcraft as one of his influences. The original PS2 version did have some slowdown issues when things got chaotic, but there's a PS4/5 remaster out now, so just get that version!

I never hear anyone ever talking about the adventures of Lomax. Such a good game.
I played MDK 1 as a kid. Had no idea there was a 2nd. Absolutely underated game. I know what im goin to play soon
Psi-ops was amazing fun. You could unlock MK Scorpion too!
Syphon Filter games, most people only played the Ps1 episodes.
I loved the game Oni. It was one of the first games I bought for my PS2 and, given the chance, I would play that game again.
There was a point I was convinced I was the only person on earth to play Kya. Thank you for covering this hidden gem I poured so many hours of my life into ❤️
MDK is the greatest series that never got a chance. From fantastic writing, goofy levels, and great set pieces it truly deserved better than it got.
Wow seeing Whiplash and the Snoopy vs Red Baron gameplays really sent me back in time
Simpsons Hit and run, psi ops, the godfather, Scarface the world is yours, Scooby Doo night of 100 Frights
Night of a 100 frights used to kick my butt when i was younger but i was IN LOVE!
@@vjjames5769 for me was the awkward platforming. It brought back memories playing it again
@@GJPGAMESvideos 😭😭 the fisherman's village the roof 😭😭 OH DONT GET ME STARTED ON THE GARDEN 🤣🤣 but honestly I feel that
Mission Impossible Operation Surma. The Soundtrack kicked ass and it is a heavily underrated game in the Mission Impossible game line.
I’m upset Dark Cloud and Dark Cloud 2 aren’t on here, but I guess that also means it got the attention it deserved
DarK Cloud 1 was actually a Greatedt Hits game, meaning it sold extremely well.
wow amazing I had not heard of many of those games, great research, thanks for the great video!
Props for including Urban Reign
PS2 has a treasure trove of underrated gems
Mention of No-One Lives Forever makes me happy ^_^
Granted i had both on PC and really wish they could be remastered.
FINALLY I SEE ONI ON ONE OF THESE LISTS, STRAIGHT BANGER.
Damn rumble racing, Im shocked to see that bad boy on the list. Nothing but good memories with that game as a kid. Highly recommend.
Cel Damage Overdrive was a fun little cartoon reality demolition derby game that also got a port to PS4.
Great video❤
Whiplash and The Operative: No One Lives forever. Wow, I played those games when I was really young. I didn't even remember their names until now.
Radiata Stories. I hold out hope that it gets remade/remastered, but it is one of my favorite games of all time, easily one of the most unique J-RPGs on the PS2
NOLF and ONI is my fav childhood games. Played so many times
Lol funny how the first game you place on the list is one if my favorite childhood games. Me and my cousins would be up all night passing the controller because it was so hard back then
Played both NOLF games, but on PC.
so anyone else played Primal or Legaia 2? those were good ones for me.
I about got choked up seeing metal arms 🥺 I loved that game and didnt get to spend enough time with it.
Drakengard, chaos legion, ininja, spyro, destroy all humans, the bouncer. there were some bangers that i never experinced more than like 20 minutes of but played them every day for years.
psi ops is one of my most favorite games of all time.
i got seek and destroy but havent played it yet
Ah Back in Action really takes me back. Enjoyed that game and was a riot to play.
Oni, I Ninja, and Beyond Good and Evil were my first PS2 games I played.
I was just reminiscing about Oni a few days ago. Got to the end but never beat it though.
No One Lives Forever is an amazing game. Definitely one of my favorites on the PS2
Bloodrayne was so good. I was addicted to that game.
