My plumber wanted 200 dollars to install a new kit for the tank. Excuse me? I may be a 71 years old female with failing comprehension, but I know I can find instructions on UA-cam and do it myself. This is an excellent video. I have replaced the toilet parts before, but that was before UA-cam and I had to figure it out by myself. This is going to make the job easy. Thanks, ToolDudeTony.
As a 23 year old female this video made repairing my toilet way easier. I do all the handy work myself so google and youtube are great tools for me to use.
This was a good start. However, my parts had been rusted and gunked together for close to 20 years. On top of that, my strength is somewhat limited. Therefore, the hardest part for me was turning the water valve, removing the bolts and removing the plastic gaskets. For the valve, I dripped some household oil which helped loosen it. I had to pound on the bolts to get off the corrosion. Once that was done, I could put a screwdriver in the crease to hold the bolts steady inside the tank while so I could unscrew them from below. Then I sprayed the bolts with wd-40; a couple of times. Finally, I used a q-tip to add some oil & heated with a hairdryer. This finally allowed me to loosen the bolts and unscrew with a wrench. I had to bang on the plastic gaskets a bit and add some oil to get them loosen also. Once I removed everything, it was easy putting it back together. The final step, adjusting the handle to the right height, took a bit of time but it now works great. I'm working on my second one.
My husband doesn't have the time but I believe tomorrow I'll be fixing my toilet...thank you for the video
Ok......you inspired me to fix my toilet......I hope I'm laughing & smiling like you when I finish the task! Great video!
I appreciate the courtesy flush at the end. Thanks, man!
I had reservations about replacing the parts in my toilet. After watching the video, and doing as he said, reading the instructions that came with the repair kit, I was able to fix my toilet in about an hour. Thank you.
I absolutely loved this video! Now I feel confident I can do this on my own. Thank you so much Tool Dude Tony for doing this.
Great video joe! My toilet has been broke for three months and in less than four minutes you helped me fix it with no cost to me. Thanks Joe!
Really useful. I just followed the directions and it came out pretty well. I learned two additional things: My flush handle was held on by a reverse-threaded nut, so I had to turn clockwise to loosen. And the tank's internal surface is rough, so I had to use silicone sealant under the washer to stop the water leaking out around the bolt.
This video actually spurred me on to fix 2 toilets that have been broken here for YEARS, because I have fear of screwing them up more, but (after I saw your video today) I did a little more research on the parts I would need to fix each one. I got to the hardware store, saw a bunch of 'separate' parts which confused me more, then I got lucky and noticed a FluidMaster Universal kit for only 9 bucks. I got it home, installed it, and things are looking good ! Thanks too.dude.Tony !
Thank you! Removing the tank to replace the insides is a FANTASTIC idea. It makes the job so much easier! Much better to replace it myself, than having someone show up with alcohol breath to fix it.
Thanks again Tony!!!
Dude, that was awesome!!!!…..answered all of my questions!
I agree great video. I have to work on mine tomorrow. the only thing is that I did not know about buying plumbers tape to prevent leaks so I hope that's not going to be an issue on my tank.
I've read no washer in the tank under the bolt head and I've read just the opposite. Supposedly the washer will prevent the rubber gasket from sealing well since the bolt head doesn't put enough local force around the bolt hole because the washer spreads out the downward force and a leak ensues.
I like it when you lay out all the tools you need to do the job including the teflon tape and tell your listeners as you go what order to install your parts including any adjustments that might be needed during the job. Also would be nice to know what happens if??? Somehow things don't always go as planned. It would also be nice to hear if different mfg of parts will or won't fit on certain toilet brands, or are all parts universal?
Thank You So Much For This Easy to Understand Shitter Fixer Video!!!!
My husband and I are do-it-yourselfers and we usually tackle our home repairs together. Your great how to video might have saved us a trip to our local divorce court LOL!!!
Just joken, but you should feel proud of your great contribution to all do-it-yourselfers who are not the best at successfully fixing plumbing problems!
Thank you! I was stumped trying to get the bolt off from under the tank (I'm no plumber, and the tools I can use are limited). Never realized I could take the tank OFF. Thanks again!
Thanks for putting this together, it really helps!
Thank you so much! You helped me fix my toilet and it was so easy. :)
In your case, when you install a korky fill valve, you have to set the height before you secure it to the tank if you don't want to have any interference with the flush lever and the float chamber. And your tank was rocking like you only got one nut on or one was loose
Loved it ,and yes ,that is what I am fixin' to tackle, Hope it is as easy as it looks!!!
I had to fix my toilet in May of 2011. It was tricky at first but after a couple of days I got it fixed properly and working. I basically overhauled the inside of the tank however I did not replace the gasket that goes on the outside of the tank under the flush valve and I kept the original bolts except put new gaskets in to the tank bolts since the original gaskets wore out. And I replaced the fill valve with the hydro clean efficient fill valve.
This video was all I needed, also enjoyed the humor. Thanks man. Keep it up! :D
Awesome Video, done so even I can even fix my own toilet. Thanks Tool Dude Tony!!
Now that I turned my water off and on to the toilet, it leaks around the valve. Hmmm...do you have a video fix for that?
Great video! Exactly what I needed to get the job done. Thank you!
Tool Dude Tony you ROCK!!!
Great showing and clearly.

Gotta love this guy. Ive never done this job before (I've done EVERYTHING Else though) . So seeing it should help. And sine The Walking Dead isn't back on yet - what better way to spend a Sunday Night than changing the guts inside a toilet??
You are so funny. And, you are talented repair man. Love it

Tool Dude Tony. Many thanks for your video. It was very helpful when replacing parts on my toilet. I'm a visual learner. Just show me "video" and I got it.
Great video Tony!
I'm glad you used the up to date parts. I often get praised when fixing a toilet because the last guy used a rubber ball.
Nice job Tony! Thanks.
This really helped me... Thanks for the info

@kittysinventiont101
Thanks for the great feedback. Good luck with your DIY projects.
Thanks Tony, My toilet started leaking a couple of nights ago. Thought I would have to call a plumber. You made it look easy. Now I have the confidence and know how to tackel the job myself.
Thanks tool dude Tony!
On which fitting? Thanks
This is a great video!
Hi Kaleb, Try some Vice Grips. Hopefully, there is enough room for them.
Thanks for the help!
Great video ..thanks tony
how do you put the handle back on, my daughter broke the big floating ball thing but the chain was already broken. so do i have to remove the whole thing to fix the inside?
That looked easy too do. Thanks Again
Great Video, and the ending was Academy Award material. Kidding aside, I will use this video for mentoring because my toilet is just flushing to dam slow. I have to give it about two flushes before it looks decent (if you know what I mean). So, before I get a new toilet, I will try to replace the toilet tank parts..and I hope I can end the same way as the video..with a smile!
Okay. Good to know. Thank you!
Thanks tool dude!!
you have inspired me to go out and get my shit together and fix it! First time watching you fix shit. Just made my day.

I REALLY NEES HELP WITH THE 3 SCREWS AT THE BOTTOM . MY WRENCH WILL NOT EVEN GET HALF WAY ON THE BOLT AND ITS ALL THE WAY AT THE TOP ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO GRIB WHAT TOOL DO I USE ?
I just fixed my toilet. Thanks for the video!
Best how to vid. Thank you and don't forget to spray the bathroom air freshener lol
Good job :)
thanks for the video. it was easy
I've replaced all the parts in one of my toilets and it leaks. The leak could be coming from where either of the bolts is attached to the tank, from where the flush valve is attached to the tank, from where the fill valve is attached to the tank, from where the tank is attached to the bowl, or from where the water supply is attached to the fill valve. I can see that the leak is not coming from where the water supply is attached to the fill valve. How do I determine where the leak(s) is(are)? Might it be a clue that there is a leak even when the flapper is down?
The instructions say to not over-tighten any of the connections, but if they're not tight enough they'll leak. I've tightened the bolts to the tank tight enough that I can see that the gaskets are being squeezed. How can I tell whether I've sufficiently tightened the connections of the fill valve and flush valve to the tank?
I had a leaky toilet myself. And the amount of work was more then I anticipated. I knew it would take time to replace the flush valve. I replaced that. Then noticed the washers that are on the bolts that bolt the tank to the toilet wore. So I replaced them. It stopped leaking from the bolts. Then I flush the toilet and all of a sudden it leaks from under the tank each time I flush. So now I know I need a new Shank washer. And I sure hope that is the last part I need to replace.
Thank you for this video. Made my job much easier than the instructions that come with the overhaul kit!
thanks for the video! that was funny at the end..."thats what I am talking bout".
Nice job! I'm going to fix my toilet today! Woo-hoo!
Thanks tool dude

Teacher, teacher, tell me how you do it! It looked so easy, like there was nothing to it!
Tony followed the toilet repair. But having a small leak from the bolt. Suggestions?

Hey Christopher, I see your posts. I'm glad you like the videos. I put a message for you on your UA-cam channel. Thanks for being a big fan and keep you fingers out of the saw! Ha!. Tool Dude
Haha this was great. Thanks
Isn't it difficult to handle the tank? We tried to replace one and it broke very easily.
Try setting the water level higher. I think it needs more water to complete the cycle.
what if my flush is at the top?
