So glad you mentioned to turn off mains water stopcock at front of residence. This is an awesome video covering beginner washer replacement, intermediate refacing seats, and advanced replacement of tap seats for DIYers. Thank you so much.
HELP 😢 PLEASE! I followed your video on how to do a simple washer change and now when I turn the bath taps on, water is coming through the wall.... What have I done wrong?
Bloody brilliant Bill. My dad (retired plumbing industry) was very disappointed when I told him I fixed it myself with this videos help. He had even gone to his shed to get his old tool box.
A big thank you as I'm on the brink of having to change my bathroom sink washers myself 🤦♀ girl power to the rescue. I have to rummage through my fathers tool box to find the needed tools do most of the task. Watched this job done many times as a child so wish my luck 🤞
Go girl power !! I've seen my dad replace washers many times, and fix cars. I've replaced washers myself, but never done a reseat. This video was awesome. Extra knowledge.
Thanks so much @billshowto I'm an elderly lady and my husband no longer can do handyman work. I'm excited to learn from you. I'm so very sad my husband is no longer able but it does mean I now get a chance to do things. Blessings and Thanks 😊❤😊
Missed a few tips here. Turn off the water first. Open the tap valve as it makes it easier to remove spindle. When you tap a thread as in for the new seat always go 1/2 turn forward and 1/4 turn back. This will clear the debris and make it easier to tap the thread. You also need a slow revving drill such as a cordless drill to reseat as too high a speed would cut too much out.
Magic. Thanks for this video. The new tap seat is what i was hoping for. Never new you could do that. You have saved me a plumber bill. Thank you so much.
Thanks for sharing brother. As a tiler and carpenter, I've always shared knowledge when and where ever possible. Plumbers rarely ever share knowledge, and I never knew that third way to resolve a broken seat. Brilliant
Finally the solution. I had a micro crack in the seat and I have tried reseating this about 4 times and feared I was getting close to flogging it out for good. This has fixed the problem. You are a legend Bill.
Another great, helpful video. Well done Bill. Your explanations are perfect, not over complicated and give confidence to the home handyman that they could do just about anything around the home.
Thanks Bill. You are a legend. I find your videos are very practical and useful. All explained in a very thorough and straight to the point DIY friendly way.
Thanks for your video. I've never experienced a plumber actually flushing the taps after reseating, so now I know why I have to keep getting them back to fix dripping taps! Ceramic disc taps are the way to go though.
FANTASTIC, AND EXTREMELY WELL PRESENTED. SIMPLY EXPLAINED DIFFICULT ACTIONS. I LEARNT A LOT. GREAT JOB. I ACTUALLY HAVE A MASSIVE LEAKING TAP, AND NEED TO RESEAT THE COLD WATER. THE PLUMBER MADE IT WORSE.
Great video Bill, I love the knock-up you made, excellent stuff. I was amazed 20 years ago when I came to Australia, that these old fashioned taps were still a thing. Ceramic washer taps were unheard off 😂
Thanks Bill. Great video that I will share with my daughter. Can you make a video comparing the various materials used in hot & cold tap washers. There are so many choices, cheap & expensive, soft & hard, plastic & brass stems. Some wear out quickly.
Good job. That kit's been around for years. Haven't had a tap where I've had to go that far, but it's a good s option if required. There's one leak which is rare but you can add it to your list and that is the spindle o-ring.
cheers Bill, very timely. I have a set of taps that are leaking again that I did the tap seats in years ago, I'm hoping another go with the reseating tool will do the job, but that hydroseal looks like a game changer if it doesnt!
Yes mate have done all this and it must be said that one has to be very careful when reseating a tap seat as there are many cheap reseating tools are really great at wrecking the seat or taking too much of same goes for renewing the seat just be careful to get quality fitments and tools.
Top video mate. I’ve not seen these kits before. I thought the only option was just to reseat the old one. I recon teflon tape might be the go instead of lock tight though, as who knows, the replaced seat might need replacing again in 20 or so years. Thanks for sharing!
Great video I've done steps 1 and 2 for years to fix my taps but always thought how can I fix a tap fitting which has been refinished multiple times, never knew about the rethreader kit!! Will keep that in mind, if I ever get that far up s*^t Creek!!
helps at times to open the tap a turn before you try to loosen the spindle, then you are just working on the thread minus any pressure/friction from the washer
hi mate, your video is really helpful, thanks. Can you add a link of socket spanner you used in the vedio? I couldn't find the right one on the market😅
Thanks Bill, my mums shower has a continual leak and the plumber said there was a damaged tap seat- scratched exactly as in your example, now I know how to fix thanks to you. You’re a gentleman and a scholar!
Great video, I have ordered all the bits shown in your video and I trust you will get an Amazon affiliate link. I did not know about the reseat replacement damn good idea. Cheers
I have found is easier to reseat then put new 1/4 turn ceramic tap good for 100 years. Just clean the seat up with the tool no need for the insert if putting in the ceramic tap. Has its own seat. Bit expensive though. But I was desperate very old house.
Great video. I resurfaced using the drill bit but still leaking. Can i reseat the tap if i have already resurfaced twice? I just dont want to cause more issues trying to do it on the cheap. My wife is already suggesting a plumber
Great vid. My shower spindles are covered with some sort of clear silicone, preventing me from unscrewing them. Can i cut around this to unscrew the spindle?
Hey Bill, if after reseating, new washers, valves etc and there's still a slow slight drip is that when you replace the seat itself with the tool shown in this clip? I think the answer is yes but wanted to ask before going ahead 🤣 After that next step is calling a plumber cos I only did new new bits and bobs listed above only 12 months prior 😢
Sometimes the seat has markings that would take excessive resurfacing and may be too far gone. The seat should be resurfaced as much as possible before installing the new seat either way to have it as clean/flat as possible 👍
Always put a little bit silicone behind the new seat. This is the tips from work. The rubber washer at the new seat sometimes can also cause leak. A little bit not much silicone absolutely can help.
Make sure the main water supply is turned off first👍👍👍👍

you’re very welcome 👍
A great suggestion.
Also put the plug in the sink or bath tub so nothing goes down the drain! Many people dont do that and they lose things.

Glad you pinned the need to turn the mains off first! Hopefully no one tried changing their washers without turning the mains off.

Tap spanner! Thank you for using the name so I don’t have to walk around Bunnings showing teens a screenshot of some metal hexagon
I finally fixed our leaking shower after so many tries. Thank you Bill!
Magic. Thanks for this video. The new tap seat is what i was hoping for. Never new you could do that. You have saved me a plumber bill. Thank you so much.

Your a legend
I Had no idea that you could simply tap in a new valve face

Thank you for making every tutorial easy to follow. I now no longer have leaky taps, also I now have also installed a new shower head!!
The best video I ever seen in my life as second generation migrant .clearly&simply spoken bravo Vasili
👍👍👍
Love it. If you added a part about installing quarter or half turn taps, that could save even more money and effort for homeowners.
That may have to be a separate video. I’ll add it to my list 👍
Yes please

I have done a few videos on this but on shut off valve’s. Exactly the same process but I’ll add it to the list in case people can’t find them👍
superb video, id defo recommend turning off mains and flushin a toilet or running a tap to remove any system pressure!!
Your videos are aways so helpful, straight to the point, and show me exactly what I was looking for. thank you!

Well done Bill..You only need to view the size of Plumber's advertisements to conclude many charge like wounded Bulls..
As always, easy-to-follow instructions and valuable information. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Bill, another informative video.
Coming from a first time home builder, your videos are always my go to when it comes to home improvement 🤙🏻
Unfortunately the way new houses are being built including mine, maintenance and repairs come much quicker than they should. Hope all goes well👍👍👍
Thanks a million, it's so easy and quick to do as long as you have that Tap Spanner. Annoying drip now gone after replacement washers.
Cheers mate! Appreciate your input and insight on such a simple repair that almost anyone can do. 👍🏼
Thank you Bill a very well-made and perfectly explained video.
You’re welcome 👍
You are fantastic, Bill. Thanks for sharing all these useful videos.

Thankyou, I'm going broke buying new washers that don't make any difference, will try the drill reseater tool as my hand driven one does SFA.
Great building advice for the many Bill, always awesome.
Same here A big thank you bill . Ho a do you close and out door tap but is still Water is dripping .?
I have made a video on that exact problem 👍
Thanks Bill, I knew you would had a video on this. Great work like Always. Now onto the toilet running 😁
Wow. Awesome video. I didn’t realise about being able to redo the seats. Great info. Thanks. 🙏.
Thanks mate your videos are fist class so professional.I am surprised you don’t have any sponsors. 👌👍😊
Great Mate. That is exactly what i needed. Tried to shave but that did work so I am going to do exactly what you have shown us.
helps at times to open the tap a turn before you try to loosen the spindle, then you are just working on the thread minus any pressure/friction from the washer
Thanks Bill for this excellent plumbing lesson👍👍
👍
You could shine a light unto the seat at the beginning and different stages to really make it easy to see into it
Great video Bill. I never knew about those re-seating kits. 🙂
Just a shout-out... Man, these are seriously impressive how-to videos.
Always great new innovations out there and blokes like you put them out for us to see👍
This is gold , thanks heaps mate, this is the exact problem I have!!!
Great video thank you. Does the new seat simply sit over the old one after the new thread has been created?
Thank you Brother so much, for your very valuable demonstration and explanation.
Great plumbing video, just gotta question, how did u remove the old seat?
You’re life saver ! Love your channel
hi mate, your video is really helpful, thanks. Can you add a link of socket spanner you used in the vedio? I couldn't find the right one on the market😅

I've been putting up with the ensuite cold dripping for months... Ill have a rack this week, Legend cheers 🍻
👍👍👍
I ment crack at it 🤣
Hi, great video. What would you suggest would be the problem if you had a ceramic tap which was leaking? Same procedure?
do you have patreon Bill? you saved us thousands in plumber bills
we definitely owe you so how can we contribute to you?
Links are in the description 👍👍👍
Hey bill can you still shave the seat on the hydro seal or does it have to be the original seat?
I have found is easier to reseat then put new 1/4 turn ceramic tap good for 100 years. Just clean the seat up with the tool no need for the insert if putting in the ceramic tap. Has its own seat. Bit expensive though. But I was desperate very old house.
Great video Bill. Very helpful
Quality content and video Bill.
👍
Great demo
Thank u so much man i fixed my shower but the tub is a priblem i i put in the new seat but spout is still leaking could it be the spout???
Fantastic vid Bill 👏 thanks heaps for sharing
Thanks Bill! Followed your steps and it worked perfectly! :):) :):)
Great video. I resurfaced using the drill bit but still leaking. Can i reseat the tap if i have already resurfaced twice? I just dont want to cause more issues trying to do it on the cheap. My wife is already suggesting a plumber
Sure can👍
How'd you go with reseating the tap?
Very well explained. Well done!
Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge ❤
You’re welcome 👍
Bill, you fkn Legend, mate!
Wish the landlord would let me do it myself
Great vid. My shower spindles are covered with some sort of clear silicone, preventing me from unscrewing them. Can i cut around this to unscrew the spindle?
You can cut the silicone out. The silicone is sometimes used to create a waterproof seal and prevent water from making its way into the wall cavity
@@billshowto Do i need to put more silicone down once im done changing the washers?
Cheers Bill. You are a life saver 👍
Awesome presentation!!
Thank you very much for your video 👍非常感谢你的详细教程👍
You’re welcome 👍👍👍
Can you do a video about old taps that have the hot ans cold coming out of 2 separate outlets
I have a question can I use the tap from a shower to taps for a washing machine ?
Are all shower valves the same size/thread or do you have to know what size your old ones are?
We took the head of put in the reseating tool then put a new washer job done as good as new.
Thanks Bill. Great video.
Let's get straight into this guys, let's do this 👌
👍
Legend. Super easy to follow. 👍

thanks mate for your generosity..
with the tap seat replacement, it may still leak if the threads were made a little loose, and you can fix that with a bit of thread sealer
Super good video Bill!
Great video Bill❤
Great tutorial for the girls, thanks.
👍
Mate just joined your channel. Love your work ! Cheers
Super handy video. Thank you
Too easy. Awesome video. Subscribed
Hey Billy if you used the reseater tool to reface the brass why would you have to replace the tap seat afterwards?
Sometimes the seat has markings that would take excessive resurfacing and may be too far gone. The seat should be resurfaced as much as possible before installing the new seat either way to have it as clean/flat as possible 👍
@@billshowto Cheers for the heads up mate 👌
Nicely done!
Is it a different repair if it's a single tap (mixer)?
Always put a little bit silicone behind the new seat. This is the tips from work. The rubber washer at the new seat sometimes can also cause leak. A little bit not much silicone absolutely can help.
Silicone may work but I haven’t tried. Loctite is what I would use👍👍👍
@@billshowto ture.loctite is also a great idea.
The hardest part of the process so far has been that my tap cover does not just screw off lefty loosey, with 40 years of corrosion :)
Hi bill, can you give some ideas , roughly how much charge install new hot water system ?
Would depend on what type of system your installing, where and the type/location of the old one.
