Thank you so much for the video you probably saved me several hundred dollars. Toilet was not flushing worth a crap pardon the pun lol but i was going to call a Plummer because i replaced everything in the back of the toilet new float literally everything brand new and still did not flush at all. I cleaned the back hole were you said sedamits can plug it and sure enough it looked like a gravel pit once i started scraping at that back hole. After a good 15 min af scraping at it nothing else was coming out of the hole and now it flushes like a champ. I was being told they were going to have to pull the toilet and snake the plumbing so thank you so very much.

I used to design and install septic systems. I am a state certified soil evaluator. When I have to work on my toilet, I use an old wet/dry shop vac to remove water. Just a tip someone may find handy.
I cleaned the holes underneath the seat using metal coat hanger hook part and I could see good amount of deposits falling down. It took me approx 6-8 mins to clean all the holes properly. Also, cleaned the other holes in the toilet but most of the deposits were in the smaller holes. Cleaned, flushed 2-3 times and it flushes properly now. Thank you for creating this video.
After trying all these fixes this simple solution worked 100% It is most likely your chain is too short if that doesn't fix it then remove flapper and see if there adjustments on it, if so adjust to highest setting. Problem solved
Your suggestion for cleaning out the holes underneath the edge of the toilet where water comes out during a flush was spot on. We have been dealing with a toilet that needs two flushes to work for months and could not figure out a solution. Finally we found your site on line, took out an allen wrench, cleared the calcium from the holes, and IT FLUSHES OUT IN ONE FLUSH! YEAH!
Yes, I saw another video where the toilet was cleaned and dried, duct tape applied to the jets and pure vinegar poured into the overflow and let sit for 24 hrs.
I suggest using hydrogen peroxide, you can close the seat or leave it open (works both ways) and allow the hydrogen peroxide to work through any problem areas. Then before you flush the toilet, I use the plunger to force the the water & peroxide mix to push through the trap & force the water to flush through those small holes in the upper rim of the toilet
I use the toilet auger a little different. It has a rubber on the curved end to prevent scratching the porcelain. Pull the line out at the top where the handle is. Insert the curved end (with the rubber) into the trap and then push the line in as you turn the handle. Reverse these steps to remove.
There are also toilet brushes available that have a flange kind of brush in addition to what we're accustomed to seeing. It fits up under the rim, and will help prevent the holes from getting clogged again. I love mine so much, I bought one for my daughter.

I’m okay with using vinegar because it’s natural and can be neutralized. In any case, yours is the best video I’ve found for my limitations, and it worked great!
Toilet was draining slow. @7:58 This hole was not blocked BUT a lot of mineral buildup that was impeding the flow on the flush. Cleared out with pumice and now draining correctly! Thanks for the tip!!
Very informative! At 1:10, after pulling out the lip on the plunger, fill with water and carefully flip it over with your fingers over the opening. I get a better effect without the trapped air being compressed.
Thanks, your video helped me to fix my toilet issue. You pointed out there is another hole farther from the tank which caused my toilet to flush slow -- quite some mineral built up there.
I'm so glad I was looking into some of your old videos and found this one. I have been having issues for the past 3 years with our one toliet not flushing properly. I bought a new one to replace it, but I will try to clean everything before I toss something that may be just an easy fix. Thanks Jay!
Dude thank you so much !!! Spent hours trying to get my toilet unclogged with SO MANY different things and came across your video with the mirror trick and taking out the water . Found out My kids flushed a pair of underwear and a makeup mirror down the toilet and about 15 minutes of trying to finagle them out of there I am able to use my toilet again 😅😅😅
Thank you for this video. I had planned on replacing the entire flushing system, but after following these tips, the toilet flushes like it's brand new!
Hey man thank you for this video! After some testing I figured out that it was not necessarily that my toilet was blocked, however there was not enough force to flush. I also realized I live in a part of the country where the water is very mineral dense, so I used the Alan wrench method to unclog the jets. My toilet has never had such force! Subscribing! Thank you!

I was going to buy another toilet ad saw your video and found I could not put my pinky finger in cavity at bottom of toilet bowl as it was jammed with crystal like rocks. Then we worked for 20 to 30 minutes to clear out and all was great after that
re 1:25 When using a plunger, I always try to pull the obstruction up first. Since it got stuck going down, pushing it down more, can get it more stuck. Usually, (unless it is a kid's toy or diaper) pulling it back slightly is enough to release it, allowing the flush to continue normally. Also, a plunger only works well when the bowl is reasonably full of water. Air in a plunger is useless.
Diagnose first. And simple. Pour a bucket of water directly into bowl & at the drain. This will indicate a blockage/partial block if it still drains slowly. If it flushes correctly, it's probably mineral blockage at holes under the rim. If so..dry under rim, duct tape holes, pour vinegar (or CLR, etc) into the tube that's inside tank. Wait, let the chemical do the work. Untape..flush, repeat if necessary. Usually does the trick for me.
The video host is wrong to tell people to use bleach to remove mineral deposit. Bleach does not removed mineral deposit, only acidic cleaners such as vinegar, CLR, etc. do. GOOGLE: Why doesn't bleach dissolve limescale? Do not mix bleach and acidic cleaner when cleaning the toilet because it will form chlorine gas, which is a deadly gas.
What is wrong with UA-cam? Why does UA-cam shadow ban my reply carrying helpful information warning people not to use bleach and an acidic cleaner together when cleaning the toilet so as to avoid being poisoned by a deadly gas? UA-cam censorship is getting more and more absurd and unconscionable.
@@jesseellis7298 I just poured 2 cups of vinegar w/food coloring into the overflow tube and the only place it came out (appeared) was the large exit hole in the bottom. Excellent quick video explaining the workings of the toilet. I'm not handy at all and was able to fix my slow toilet just by understanding what was going on under there. Thank You
For hard water buildup, usually calcium, put toilet bowl cleaner in that stand pipe you showed at the end of your video and let it wash out the discharge holes. If you will notice, most commercially prepared toilet bowl cleaners come in a necked bottle for spraying up into those discharge holes all around the rim. Some maintenance guys will jam toilet paper up under the rim and slowly pour TB cleaner into that fill pipe saturating the toilet paper without washing it out of place, and let the active ingredient, usually Hydrochloric Acid, work on the calcium build up. After a while they remove the packed in toilet paper and Viola' crapper works again.
Had a weak flush for months. Didnt ever clean the larger hole in the bowl. Used coat hanger to kock off hard water calcium and flushes like new now. Thanks!

When using that type of plunger to remove a clog one should try to fill the plunger with as much water as possible, adding water to the bowl if necessary. This is usually necessary as you don’t want to just push air into your drainage system and you can also make alot more force with water in it than air. Side note. only if you know it’s a toilet paper clog because anything else shouldn’t be pushed down the drain. Like. Anything else
Great videos, never disappoint. Suggestion: Overflow tube pour in one quart of VINEGAR; let it set overnight [only toilet in house, this will not work well; sitting overnight eats this stuff up]. VINEGAR eats minerals quite well vs. bleach I believe and TYVM.
One thing you should never do ever I see people do this all the time. They pee in the toilet and just leave it sitting here and it causes a great build of calcium in all the Jets and in the trap. I've also seen it build up through the toilet and down into the sewer lines and cause all kinds of trouble that stuff is like concrete. So don't use the if it's yellow let it mellow and brown flush it down. Always flush your toilet even when you pee in it you may use a little more water but you'll be saving yourself a big plumbing bill or even a new toilet.
I have watched many U - tubes to try and figure out the problem...? YOU where the best ONE. It took me forever to clean out each hole of calcium deposit ( there was lot's) Certainly worth the effort vs. changing the whole toilet. If it is better, it will be the best X- mass Gift of all... Are you supposed to pull the handle of the auger so the snake retracts into the handle and insert the plastic covered end into the toilet and then push the handle downward to insert snake into the trap. This will prevents black marks on the porcelain and also makes it easier to insert the snake.
I Have HARD water. NEVER considered cleaning holes. Will try.❤ Trying citric acid & other less toxic cleaners for the inside back tank. ALSO wondered if winter weather or the problems I've been having with my split top round toilet pusher is an issue
When using the toilet auger you should retract the handle so tip of auger in pull back to curve in tool. Then place in toilet and turn auger, that will eliminate the scratches you showed in the toilet. A lot of time scratches in porcelain toilets are hard to get rid of.
You're not using that auger correctly and you're scratching the toilet! You need to push and pull the metal cable through the guide tube, which is there to protect the porcelain. The curved tip of guide tube needs to stay pushed in the hole of the toilet to all times and you push or pull the metal cable through it with the rotating handle
Easy to install, ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxjA-hDN2m8_mi0Dg0JD8U6QiArozIAc4I and comfortable. No idea what other people were talking about when they said it was difficult to install or uncomfortable.
Thank you. Since I have some other repairs to this toilet, I thought I would try and fix the slow flush. I'm sure one of these methods will work.. And, I thank all your followers for their comments. It will work.
A better substitute, actually. Since mineral buildup is usually calcium and/or lime, which are alkaline and bleach is alkaline. The acid in the vinegar (or citric acid) will dissolve the buildup. The bleach might clear a little of it but it's mostly going to disinfect it, lol.
Thank you for sharing the tips, that really helped. One comment of your last method. Bleach can help remove stains and disinfect your toilet, but it may not effectively dissolve built-up calcium deposits. Calcium deposits are typically hard and require more specific cleaning methods. Using a toilet cleaner specifically designed to remove limescale or mineral deposits would be more effective. These cleaners often contain ingredients like hydrochloric acid or citric acid, which can break down calcium deposits. Remember to always follow the instructions on the cleaning product and take proper safety precautions.
There are a few things that need to be addressed with this. A slow flush is only two things. A; either a clog, thus an issue behind the P-trap or under the floor in the drain line and / or B; a slow flush can be from a build up of mineral deposits in the small ring jets around the top of the bowl and the main jet at the bottom which pushes the water and waste out when you flush. It's typically easy to determine what the cause is (A or B). If you can pour in a few gallons of water very quickly down the bowl (from a pitcher or half full 5 gallon bucket) then you know it it's not A because it flushed fine and therefore there is no clog, in which case the issue is B; mineral deposits which can be solved by vinegar or Muriatic acid. If however the P-trap is definitely clogged, then you have no choice but to plunge it and or snake it to remove a clog. But also know that things like old cast iron pipes can become so clogged that the only option is to remove and replace them. Ask me how I know :).
I've had bad plumbing issues this past month we are all old cast iron. Our septic line tees off right before the septic tank to some unknown area. Flushing very slow I'll try B.
@@Sterling_arboretum Yes, try the B method first, a fast pour of at least 2 or 3 gallons straight into the bottom center of the bowl. If it flushes ok and quickly then you need to soak the toilet bowl and ring in muriatic (1:1 water mix) for a good hour.. And if you know you have cast iron, the lifespan of it is about 50 years. I just had to replace a 3 ft section under our bathroom sinks, meaning replumbed with all new ABS from sinks to where they meet the toilets. Our house was built in 1959 and has city sewer connection at the street. At some point cast iron closes up to the the size of your pinkie in which case no chemical or mechanical scouring will work. If is still draining some, you will probably want to hire a plumber to come scour the lines but if severely clogged, sometimes it will just add to the issues unless you can flush all the debris out as it's being scoured with the plumbing snake (and good cutter head attachment not just a spring spiral)
Citric acid or vinegar will get rid of mineral buildup too. Figure a way to let either one of them sit and soak the target areas, then rinse/flush and it's less physical labor.
Well... I tried a fifth option. Since I did just do a huge dump, I figure there was poop lodged in the pipe somewhere. I tried soap, hot water, ice (to cover the opening to form seal to plunge). None of those works. I did saw some brown water came out after the hot water so I thought that the poop was very near and probably lodged on the s-turn. I decided the best way to clear it without buying new equipment in the middle of the night is to just fully clog it with toilet paper. This way, the plunger can actually push the obstruction out of the S-Pipe. It works and now it's flushing fast again. Or perhaps it's the combination with soap/hotwater and the toilet paper and plunger did it.
Never ever pour hot water down a toilet. Yhe wax ring underneath will melt or get deformed and you will get dirty water going into your ceiling below or worse.
My first course of action and best tip for unclogging, is my trusty 5 gallon bucket of water. Fill up clogged bowl to the top, and let the water pressure do its trick and clear the clog. Severe clogs may take overnight to clear. However, if you have only one toilet, you will have to use other means if the bucket-of- water trick does not immediately work.
using an allen wrench and mirror is exactly what i did to clean out all my inlet holes around the rim that was definitely my problem i also used vinegar in my tankn
thank you. I watched a few videos. All failed to talk about the bottom hole. that thing is deceiving, you would think it's too big to clog. sure enough using a 14g electrical wire i took a few ounces of sand like material, calcium build up. all good now.
For cleaning the discharge holes… shut off water flow, flush and drain bowl, dry under the rim, use duct tape under the rim to cover all discharge holes, then pour vinegar or CLR into the overflow. Let the vinegar/CLR sit for at least an hour or longer then remove the tape, clean out discharge holes and flush as usual. The vinegar/CLR will help break down any calcium deposits in the discharge holes.
Tip 5 for deposits: 1) Turn off the water behind the toilet. 2) Flush the toilet to empty the tank. 3) Remove all water from the bowl, and 4) remove the rubber flap from the bottom of the tank. 5) allow to dry completely. 6) Use waterproofing tap to block the jets under the rim and the small water flush inlet at the bottom of the bowl, so nothing can get into the bowl. 7) Pour CLR cleaner into the round standpipe inside the tank (this works in the under bowl jets specifically. 8) pour CLR cleaner down the drain hole in the bottom of your toilet. 9) allow to sit for 8-12 hours. 10) wearing gloves, remove the waterproof tape. 11) replace the toilet flap. 12) turn the water back on. 13) flush toilet several times

When using the toilet auger you should retract the handle so tip of auger in pull back to curve in tool. Then place in toilet and turn auger, that will eliminate the scratches you showed in the toilet. A lot of time scratches in porcelain toilets are hard to get rid of.
You're right !!!!
Amen brother you you save me the trouble I'm glad I read this first. When I saw him put that auger in that way I was like no
Exactly……
Thanks. Very informative.
Excellent video thanks
Wonderful explanation
Thank you so much. Appreciated
I’m glad to help! 🙏🏽😊
Filling tank with very hot water and dish soap is a great trick as well
The actual tank or the overflow tube?
It can also split your
Tank
You're not using that auger correctly and you're scratching the toilet! You need to push and pull the metal cable through the guide tube, which is there to protect the porcelain. The curved tip of guide tube needs to stay pushed in the hole of the toilet to all times and you push or pull the metal cable through it with the rotating handle
Easy to install, ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxjA-hDN2m8_mi0Dg0JD8U6QiArozIAc4I and comfortable. No idea what other people were talking about when they said it was difficult to install or uncomfortable.
I use a much more beefier closet Snake. Also CLR down overflow sit all night. But a Pro Snake will clear ALL OBSTRUCTIONS unless you Shit Bricks😜
I put a little vinegar in the overflow tube and let it sit for a few minutes. That fixed my issue.
Thank you. Since I have some other repairs to this toilet, I thought I would try and fix the slow flush. I'm sure one of these methods will work.. And, I thank all your followers for their comments. It will work.
Thanks! The mineral blockage trick worked on mine! Would white vinegar be a suitable substitute for bleach?
Remember to always follow the instructions on the cleaning product and take proper safety precautions.
best in😊fo i have seen yet. thanks
Does draino or anything help the old cast iron for temporary satisfaction
Best of video. Thank you.
Good Job. Thanks
Fix #2 work for me- thanks!
For hard water, use vinegar, pour in the overflow tube and let it sit for 24 hours. Cheap and easy.
You are always great
Thank you so much! 🙏🏽😊
Awesome! Thank you!
Citric acid or vinegar will get rid of mineral buildup too. Figure a way to let either one of them sit and soak the target areas, then rinse/flush and it's less physical labor.
Clean the jets with a brass wire brush and use vinegar instead of bleach
Great video. Thank you.
Thank you very well explained.
Thanks! Good info!
Thank you very helpful
I’m glad I could be of help! 🙏🏽😊
Thanks for tip.
This is awesome. Thanks!
Thank you! 🙏🏽
Instead of using an Allen wrench and risk damaging the porcelain, I think you could try a disposable mascara wand :)
Thank you for sharing! I do this method too at times and it does work! 👍🏽😊
Yes - you will need another bucket....
Thanks for your help 😊
I’m glad to help! Thank you victor! 🙏🏽😊
using an allen wrench and mirror is exactly what i did to clean out all my inlet holes around the rim that was definitely my problem i also used vinegar in my tankn
Thanks this really helped
The holes inside the bowl plug up over time i used a paper clip unbent to insert and open the holes, Also use a mild acid even vinegar
Thank you so much for ur vedio... U help a lot
You are most welcome my friend! 🙏🏽😊
great video..thank you
Our overflow tube is covered and sealed then encased with a wider cylinder tube. Pour the beach into the wide tube?
thank you. I watched a few videos. All failed to talk about the bottom hole. that thing is deceiving, you would think it's too big to clog. sure enough using a 14g electrical wire i took a few ounces of sand like material, calcium build up.
all good now.
Great .. very good info.
For cleaning the discharge holes…
shut off water flow, flush and drain bowl, dry under the rim, use duct tape under the rim to cover all discharge holes, then pour vinegar or CLR into the overflow.
I'm on a limited income. You saved me two hundred dollars. God bless you
Thanks for the Info.
