    Removed my dash a few weeks ago to replace diaphragms in the vacuum pods. Big job, but much more manageable than I thought it would be!

      Yeah it's not so bad once you know how.

      @@woodsandbarclay Does the service manual document the process for removing the dash?

      @@timfetner8029 I don't know I've never looked I just learned it from an older mechanic that showed me how to do it.

    Great video John, and very interesting getting a peek behind the dash. Lots of things going on back there! I wonder why they decided to put the window relay all the way behind the dash like that. I would have thought it would have been somewhere close to the switches in the center console. However, as smart as the Germans are I’m sure there was a logical reason for the location.

      The window relay is actually really easy to access it's right behind the gauge cluster. It takes about 5 minutes to pop out the gauge cluster and then you have access to it.

      @@woodsandbarclay Gotcha! Dealing with the dash and gauge cluster looks intimidating but I imagine if you do it a couple of times you get the hang of it. Kinda like the throttle linkages.

    I have a W124 300e 1987 with 130,000KM (81,000 miles). But it's still 35 years old and this scares me. LOL.
    I'd love you do do a W124 some time.

      Good low mileage 124 diesels are so hard to find there's not many out there but would love to do it if I can find one!

    Is it impossible to remove the AC unit with the dash in place ?

    • @woodsandbarclay
      @woodsandbarclay  6 місяців тому

      If you're talking about the AC evaporator yes you have to take the dash out.

    So my manual HVAC 1980 240d has no vacuum pods. Right?

    • @woodsandbarclay
      @woodsandbarclay  2 роки тому

      If it's manual then I would assume no because the vacuum pods are used to automate the vents opening.
