If Land Rover spent as much time on reliability as they do on style and looks this would be an unbeatable combination. They still have not figured out the reliability part. Great Video Sam as usual!
Just wondering, have you owned one? Thank you :)
Having owned 9 LR/RR in the last 20 years, I have had my issues. And certainly not as reliable as some brands certainly. It also has more capabilities than most brands too. Doing both on and off road well is somewhat unique. Having the TRD pro etc (pick your band trim to off road well) to get the same off road/dirt/mild to medium 4x4 ability you get that LR has stock. Other brands lose the on road confidence. Of course dedicated on and off road vehicles will win on either end of the spectrum (think BMW/Alpina XB7 -Road and Bronco Raptor - off road. LR’s are heavy cars so components are going to wear out sooner. It is a compromise, yes. All cars/SUV’s are.
Of course of you go back more than 20 years or discuss the original Defender you certainly have different conversations. Having to many corporate owners and has both hurt and helped the brand in different way. Jaguar is dragging on LR now for instance…. Every brand has history and issues. Embrace the culture and history or don’t. Pick your band and live with it or move one to something else. So many unique brands …..
@@SamCarLegion Everybody knows how unreliable LRs are nowadays
I have owned several LR vehicles and still have a 2013 Defender here in AU and I love it even though is not reliable.
I agree with you, they spend a lot of money on style and tech but not reliability. They are on par with Alfa Romeo.
Maybe one day they will get it right because they are great cars if it wasnt for the reliability.
Cheers
We have owned a new 110 Defender for the past 14 mths and now has 17,000 mikes on it. Not a single problem ! We also know a number of guys with the same model, not a single problem with any one of them. No other similar type 4x4 has a presence on the road like the new Defender, different league to anything else. We also own a new X5, had major problems with it., but fixed by BMW without any inconvenience. There is no such thing as a ‘bad car’ nowadays, just some people who non stop moan !
x-5 has the worst rating on consumer reports--total junk
Okay.. but do you need such a big powerful, gas guzzling vehicle when the all the ice in Artic and antarctic is melting and changing the climate? Or Are you one of these people who does't care? I have down sized everything. NO Children, NO meat diet, smaller house, smaller cars, no foreign holidays.( flown only twice - both essential trips) in 25 years., etc
@@lakshmandalpadado9066 you must be the king of the “knee jerk reactions “ then?
No such thing as a bad car!??! I totally disagree I have a range rover sport and the list of problems is endless . I practically know every AA man from Newcastle to Portsmouth
Same bruh I owned defender 110 in month of may . Defender is really a beast 💖
Land Rover Defender is definitely one of my favorite SUVs overall but the reliability is still a huge problem! I’d go with the Lexus LX 600 or the Toyota Sequoia instead!
Lx is overpriced old tech like the is500 compare to the competition
@@curiosityredpill7030 old tech that WORKS
@@mvubu6823 would you pay the same price for a old house the same price a new house cost ?

Hi Sam. The mid seats slide forward to climb in. If you collapse them first like you did, they wont slide.
Sam, after you pulled the lever and the seat tilted forward, you just had to push the seat and it would have slid all the way forward against the front passenger seat and you could exit the third row. It's the same as in my 110.
I’ve had my new Defender P400 almost 2 years … perfect so far!
Good review thanks! But in my opinion the new Defender even in its 8 seater incarnation is a step back from the brilliant space utilisation and dimensions of the LR4 (Discovery 4).
Great video! Try to work little bit on the exposure, as in those conditions we can't see much details inside.
Great video Sam! That's a sweet ride. Love the color.
i dont know what people are saying about reliability. i have owned 2 Discovery Sports, a 2016 and a 2020 model. the only things i had to do with them was oil changes and tires. never had 1 mechanical issue with any of them. i live in Tampa
People are high of too much lies
I guess its a hit and miss thing. Experienced the LR4 and boy it spent a lot of time in the dealer for the first year.
Air suspension not balancing, when it rains outside, it rained inside because the sunroof was leaking, wiper blades was replaced twice in just a span of less than 6 months.
I have a 2022 defender 110 and absolutely love it. It’s double the price than in the us owing to custom duties but I still wanted it very well being aware that it will have problems. The one thing I don’t like is that LR hasn’t paid much attention in ensuring build quality. A lot of things keep falling apart, they are all minor things but it happens all the time, every week. I’m just accumulating all the problems so that i can take it once and for all. Having said it, it puts a smile everyday I ride it.
my neighbor 3 doors down also has a Defender 110, and at the beginning of every( usually 4 out of every 5 mornings) school day for his kids, he tells his 6year old son to go in the front passenger door first and then hop over to the second roll seat just so to physically unlock and open the second roll doors from the inside. He takes it back to the dealership and needless to say those people there where not qualified to fix it, so they spent about 7 days to drive it to another facility to get the right personnel to correct the problem and drive it back. Five weeks later, the same problem repeated itself.
You have the right attitude: 1) bring plenty of money 2) keep your expectations low 3) prepare to suffer. That’s the proper recipe for LR ownership, as well as marriage.
I have a ‘20 Defender 110 HSE. Just rolled 30,000 mi on the clock. I’ve had 2 issues: small coolant leak and replaced front LED lamp assembly. Love the vehicle. Rides great. Saw a 90 on the road in Orlando a few weeks ago. Also had same driver front LED lamp out. Am concerned with the reliability after warranty.
There are people who don’t speak honestly about the issue they face with their cars. But you were honest. Thank you for letting us know about your vehicle and I’m sorry you had to spend extra for its maintenance. I guess its time you get rid of it before its warranty expires.
I used to call the 3rd row the death row. In case of an accident, you can't get out from there fast. So skip the seats and enjoy the enlarged luggage space. Maybe you can convert the 130 into a camper now. The colour is awesome.
Exactly.
Or XC90, no one died inside one apparently.
3rd rows are always for emergencies and for one time road trips.
This is absolutely amazing. Just knowing it's so capable of anything you want.
Surprised the seats don’t fold flat. That’s a huge miss for a boxy vehicle that could have been amazing for cargo. Last time I tried configuring a Defender the price reached the stratosphere. Overall, there might be better options in terms of features, price and reliability, even though LR is a very desirable brand for many people.
same with the new sequoia folded down 3rd row takes up to much cargo space
Definitely right… full flat cargo area has always been a strong point of the previous LR versions… (I’ve been owning a LR 3 for more than 10 years now).
It’s not a serious vehicle. It’s basically a status symbol for rich people to putter about in until it overheats.
Agreed. If I'm signing on to a long, boxy vehicle, then I also want the same on the inside. They should offer this with a no 3rd-row option and fully flat second-row seats so that when it breaks down somewhere, you can really stretch out and get a good night's sleep in the back. 😏
@@BillLaBrie brokie mentality
I have no personal experience with the 130 but if you spend a few minutes on land rover forums for the 2022 110 which shares all its parts with the 130 you will find plenty of the same common issues. I’m not saying buy it or don’t buy it but like every expensive vehicle purchase you should spend some time with actual owners in forums and read for issues that keep happening . One major issue is electrical gremlins that left many people stranded.
That could be for the first batches, things gets fixed every time a new batch comes out
@@SamCarLegion sometimes yes but sometimes it’s cheaper to just let known flaws come out and repair warranty work on the few that have issues. Look at Subaru who knew about oil pickup issues in their EJ engines for years and didn’t change a thing . Same thing with Hyundai and Kia in the Theta and Theta II engines they knew the oil pick up tube was getting clogged with metal but just let them roll out without changing a thing.
Edit: being a car review journalist you should know that Hyundai and Kia just settled a class action lawsuit here in Canada where they have to extend lifetime shortblock warranties on almost all theta and theta II engines in 2.0 and 2.4 GDI versions . Which include cars from 2009-2021
Haven't seen any issues beyond the initial release.
I own a 2022 model 110 S with the P300 engine. Basically I’ve had zero issues, the software updates have fixed most of the very minor systems annoyances. Bottom line, the longer I own the 110 the more l like it. The ride is impressive, the P300 motor is so much better than the reviewers lead you to believe, I’ve owned and driven both Porsche and BMW SUV’s for roughly the last 20 years. Final point, the 110 has a 3rd row option, it’s tight for adults but for a short trip or in a pinch it’s nice to have, which is why I selected this option.
There’s one interesting difference between the P300 on the 110 vs the 130, the 130 comes with a 6 cylinder where as the 110 gives you a 4 cylinder. Not sure many folks understand this point.
@@nicholasroberts9618 The new Defender is the best selling JLR vehicle, it sold more than 16K units in the quarter ending September 30th. It’s horrible that you got stranded on a test drive but based on reading and viewing a lot of social media on the vehicle, this was a anomaly. As I noted on my post above my ownership experience has been excellent.
First time when I saw the new defender, it looked quite modern and futuristic but lately don't know why it has started to give the retro vibes.
When he said the Telluride’s third row isn’t close he made a mistake! Third row in the Telluride is awesome! Third row seats recline telluride has USB ports in the back for the third row. With amazing leg room. Also the Telluride has 87 cubic feet of space. The Defender only has 80.
I'm guessing you have a telluride?
My heart beats louder 📢 when ever DEFENDER passes by..
I live in the UK and the only reason I have a Land Rover is because it is a lease for our business but if I have to own the damn thing I will go for a Lexus.
I hope Land rover makes the pickup version to both the 110 and 130 which they made in the past
I think you'll find the seat folds out the way on the driver's side on the second row, someone's going to get into trouble not showing you that, it's actually on the old defender as well
This Land Rover had been in the market for so long…still reliability is a big issue…they cannot even perfectly address comfort is specially the second and third row sets….only SAM is reliable in reviewing this car….keep up Sam…..❤❤❤
It checks all the boxes except the most important one: RELIABILITY.
To be fair, we don't know yet. But with all those electronics and sensors I can't see how it's going to be reliable in the long run.....or easily fixed.
At least the old defenders were easily fixed, anywhere. I thought that was the point.
I would love a new defender, look great, bet they are comfy and capable. No way would I do a wilderness trip in one.
This SUV is just Awesome
Love the content. Great work guys.
The audio for your video is inconsistent. The music is very loud compared to the dialogue recorded. It's a si ple thing to solve I am sure a few UA-cam videos will help solve that problem.
PS: My opinion is biased cause I do Post Prodution to be specific final mixing.
Keep well guys.
The lighting could be brighter too
lighting sucks bro....
Sound was very muffled and annoying at times, makes it difficult to follow well. Music then suddenly blasts out of the ....not a great experience. Do audio checks as you record and also before posting, that way viewers watch the whole thing.
Thanks for the video. In my opinion, the suv looks very long and I can see that the additional seats are not that practical. Hopefully that the reliability improved a bit after the release I like the 110 and a bit concerned about reliabilty
everything nice ? what an unbiased review ! good job
Defender gonna defend its title for the best off roading suv ... 🔥
Saggy air ride , check engine light and faulty electronics standard on all trim levels .
Superb, do u have reviews for the range rover 8 seaters?
Love the Defender. For people who only need two rows, but would like to maximize cargo space, will there be a version of the 130, without the 3rd row? I know you can fold them, but they use space. I mean without the 3rd row completely. Cheers
You can choose to have the Defender 130 ordered without the third row. :) I say ordered because I doubt any dealerships will have non-3rd row Defender 130's available for a long time.
Every time I see the red pumas I know it’s gonna be a good video
Very nice review. Here in Europe we can buy the V8 and the V6 turbodiesel like the Mercedes Benz GLS 400d inline six. Those diesels are the best option for hp and the amount of torque.
Greetings from Spain.
The defender 130 it's nice that means your video is awesome
Land Rover has always in my opinion Made some of the most if not the prettiest, capable off-road SUVs in the world. But unfortunately you almost need a tow truck to follow you everywhere you go for when they break down! LOL 😅 keep those awesome reviews coming sam!
Now the most SUVs have camera technology out back, I wish more would put the spare tires on the back end as I always thought that was a cool touch!
I have heard from some owners that I personally know, that this is very strong in term’s reliability.
@@SamCarLegion I was being somewhat sarcastic as past Range Rovers have had enormous reliability problems, but newer ones are definitely more reliable! Have a great day Sam!🙂
I have had the new car from just after launch. No reliability issues at all - on road, off road. A great car.
@@martinbowen9928 no doubt, as Land Rovers have come a long ways and my comment was somewhat sarcastic mixed with a little bit of truth.
Does Orange peel clear coat come standard?
Review was great Thanks for the information!
Something I noticed. The Alert for headers during presentation was a bit intense. Not sure the pitch level though my fire alarm was malfunctioning.
Thanks for the info!
Beautiful video, I love how you showed around…. To bad land rover has no lightening to brighter my view in the trans space
How was the wheel well cut out in the 3rd row? Was it odd for the legroom? Also, this thing is as long as a Tahoe but with less space?
Tahoe is wider. Hence why Tahoe isn’t sold in Europe and other problems
I would never give up my 21 Land Cruiser.
Love em so much but everybody knows it will be in the shop more then my garage
hello I'm from Brazil this vehicle is something without comments excellent vehicle
Vehicles like this need to be tall enough to accommodate e-bikes, upright (perhaps with front wheels removed). ~1m from folded seat back to ceiling. It would help if they were reliable too.
Can they put two captains seats in the second row? Maybe they can make that an option in the future
Going off-road with an unreliable vehicle is a deal breaker. My favourite is still the Toyota Landcruiser Prado or the 300 series Landcruiser here in Australia. It’s just so reliable
I wished to have a LC300 in Canada...
I love that land rover 130 model but I don't know if their can be two seating capacity of five passengers so you can get much more cargoes space
Now it is a proper Discovery!!
Love it! I want, I need in my life right now
Great review.... Have been searching for 8 seater options and this looks the business...
Every 3 row MPV/SUV at the highest trim level drops the 8 seat and offers only 7 seat.
This ticks all the boxes
Check out jeep and the grand wagoneer or grand cherokee
All time favourite land rover range rover 🔥
Good jobTata .....making 🇮🇳 love it!
love the color sedona red. this and the expedition xl can be orderd with a 2 row
Good video! Thanks for sharing, but next time try to have more light inside the vehicle, as it gets hard to see the details while filming with low light.
Happy to see D130 review.
Really they have missed the opportunity in 2nd row. Atleast the manual tumble fold seat could have avoided this crazy situation to get in and out....
I think only competition to this Diffender 130 is Jeep Grand Wagoneer L. It is so huge that D130 will look small infront of it being 8 seater...
He actually showed it incorrectly, if you use the upper handle and slide the seat forward it has much better ingress. Using the lower handle and folding the seat back all the way down limits how far it can slide forward.
I have a Discovery Sport HSE and I am fed up with the whole brand itself. It had battery drainage issue and fuel pump failure within 10000km and now its again in garage with turbo failure and odo is 20000km.
Does it tick the "reliability" box though, I wonder 🤔
finally Harry can get his rake into the back ,)
What aren’t the seats electric folding?! In My Discovery 5 all the seats are electrically folding! Seems like a step backwards with this Defender
The second row seats will roll forward more in the first position in one sweeping movement. You used the seat incorrectly access is easier if rolled
1:51 that is a lot of orange peel in that paint work.
I have seen you reviewing both Yukon Denali the new one and this. Which one would you pick? Prices are exactly the same now.
Defender
Nice video sam but the difference in audio level from the speech to the music is a bit too much.
Great video, love the defender. But the music sound on this video is too loud.
Gotta love the key board warriors on here 😂🤦🏻♂️
I can't see how the break over angle could be the same as a 110? You never mentioned, LC200/300, LX570/600, armada/patrol?
title: RIP Every 3Row SUV! The New Land Ro...
me: rolling on the ground
If a person is buying a defender he or she won't be buying it for a third row probably he or she will buying it for a off roading plus luxurious features the defender offers
The color is "Sedona Red".
Jeremy Clarkson and Richard Hammond: "IT'S BROWN!".
This car is great investment for any mechanic in the area where it is purchased.
Absolutely love the colour!
As an 8 seater I think it fails but if I was getting one I'd have the 5 seat option as I'm always looking for more trunk space.
Or just keep the third row folded
Does it tick the reliability as well?
As a Mercedes guy after having more than 30 mercs, from 40 year old to almost new... LR makes the most stylish, extravagant, luxorious suvs. I wont be buying merc anymore if they are willing to fix the reliability issues in LRs. Wouldnt touch them for now. You can go to the himalayas for weeks and see mt. Everest region from the price of a service of a 🚗.
Love it
The coolest impractical vehicle for daily driving
Just tilt second row seat and slide forward to enter third row.
that high pitch sound tho
If they have kept the sharp corners like MB does with their Gwagens, these new Defenders wouldn't look like an expensive and larger Kia Soul.
As LR at risk of the Defender line taking sales from the other models? The features and style of the 90, 110, and 130 seem to replace Discovery and Range Rover.
Did it tick the reliability box?
Good review Sam, but if I want an eight seater I would buy a mini van or a larger suv. This doesn’t cut it
Having owned a minivan in the past… never again. I’ll never be able to enjoy the oxcart handling and quirky “safety” features that make them so insufferable.
@@S8ER that’s fair. I just think there are better options for space, and this thing is way too big for a practical off-roading.

Great review but OMG - the orange peel on the paint finish out of the factory is not good. I mean - this is a new vehicle and my first job would be to flatten and project that paint!
Digging your new look Sam.
very rare vehicle on.. india KERALA.. my dream vehicle
There is no difference between my Discovery 4 and 130, even though the D4 had higher headroom and comfortable 3rd row seat. By the way, moonroof is at every seat row.
Now you can have up to 7 more people keeping you company as you wait on the tow truck
Hey Sam, in my opinion the second row issue shouldn't come up, reason being if people are sitting in the third row, this means the second row seats are also occupied & the second row occupants can assist the third row occupants to move out without much hassle. Until and unless relationship emotions play hard & the third row occupants are not in good terms with the second row & front occupants, this should not be a problem. What say??
Oh my god!!! another reviewer who doesn't tell us if the second and third seats recline or not. I will give props on letting us know how tall you are so we get a better idea of the space in the second row.
Kind of frustrating that the lighting was so bad I couldn't see much of the interior and the extra space in the back, particularly with the seats folded. Which is kind of the whole point of the 130. Do the seats not fold flat anymore? I have a Discovery 4 with 7 seats and was thinking about this as a replacement, but I'm not sure.... Looks like it actually has less usable space inside despite being bigger outside? I use my Disco 4 with the third row folded flat into the floor like 90% of the time and I really use all the boot space in that configuration.
I took the 130 for a test drive today. When folded flat the third row leaves a bump on the floor. Not like in the Discovery 4 which I own and which has a fully flat boot.
Boot space on the smaller Defender 110 is also inferior to the Discovery 4. But the 110 is longer with the spare wheel attached.
However, the Defender rides much better than the Discovery 4 and the infotainment system is on a whole different level obviously.
The Discovery 4 still has a lot going for it after all these years. I never liked the Discovery 5’s looks. The Defender ticks a lot of the boxes. But sometimes I was very glad I could put even adults on the sixth and seventh seat, knowing they’d be perfectly comfortable there. The 110 7-seater is too cramped for adults in the third row.
I think we’d better keep the Discovery for a little longer. Such a great car that!
@@TonnoTorpedo Thanks for the reply, much appreciated. Yes I agree, the Disco 4 is tough to replace! I really like the completely flat floor (we sleep in it very comfortably when we go camping), plus the vertically opening tailgate and bench seat thing. I often use that as a seat and shelter in the rain whilst we’re out - can’t do that with the Defender either. And yes, the Disco 5 looks like a great car but I don’t really like the softer rounded looks of it. Looks like I have to wait for the Disco 6 and hope it’s a looker!
I just wonder why they can’t do the independent suspension on the rear wheel like the new Denali so you don’t sit with your knees in your chest in the 3rd row.
The chassis looks great ...but...I can't seem to let go off how tiny the wheels are compared to the size of the car!
The Yukon Denali XL blows this thing out of the water. Big V8 with crazy power, air ride suspension, 10 speed transmission, and I think the interior is even more luxurious. The LR4 was the pinnacle of Land Rover and now they can't seem to figure it out in the family space. The storage behind the third row is a joke on this thing. After church, we put 2 or 3 more kids behind our third row to make the lunch run. That ain't happenin in this thing.
Ticks every box except reliability 😂
Ticks every box except reliability and affordability..🥵
I have a cousin who turns wrenches (spanners) in England for a LR dealership. He drives a Land Cruiser, he told me he needed something reliable. To quote him "Land Rovers are rubbish" he should know.
Hmm, sounds made-up.
Believe what you like, but he has worked at that dealership for years (he is 63). Plenty of job security according to him and a good place to work.
‘A Land Rover takes you to the jungle but with a Land Cruiser you get out again’ they say.
Wagoneer has a third sunroof for 3rd row passenger also
Sad this doesn’t have the alpine windows. Love those on my 110.
Man if this is available as reliable EV, it can beat the Rivian R1S for sure..!
This thing is beautiful
Maybe lower the settings for the sound fx
You make it look like it's better than it's actually is.
