I definitely prefer the 130 to everything else in this segment. X7, Suburban/Escalade ESV, Grand Wagoneer, etc. I prefer the Defender 130 stylistically and functionally.

The three row Range Rover will blow the X7 out of the competition! It is way smoother, way quieter way more luxurious. It is the choice of royalty and celebrities for a reason, it has more cache.
I’m gonna stick with my X7 because I don’t go off-roading. I don’t live in rural areas where I may need a more rugged vehicle. And if I do live in a rural area, I’d probably get a Tundra instead. And besides, the reputation that Landrovers have of being unreliable vehicles that are always in the shop is a huge turnoff. I do like the old Defenders and even these new ones are gorgeous. I looked into getting a Defender when I was getting my X7, even test drove one.

Its an unfair comparison. The X7 is more comparable to GLS as they both are focussed on ride quality, luxury and comfort. While the Defender is more comparable to Land Cruiser as they both are focussed on off road with luxury and are both rugged SUVs.
my brand new 2020 Defender spent first 5 months in repair shop where its whole transmission system had to be replaced (under warranty) plus 6/7 other different issues. what an unreliable beast
I don't think the defender is reliable, that's why i don't own one, the BMW looks like a mini van ( Chrysler Pacifica) that's why I don't own one. I do however own a new designed escalade premium luxury model and it's very nice and gas mileage is about 400 miles in range on a full tank.
Why are you comparing the BMW X7 to a offroad based Land Rover Defender? Not the same class nor the same capabilities? BMW screwed up by discontinuing the offroad pkge ( rear locking diff) for the X7?
No one will drive a X7 for serious offroad. A single headlight can cost near $4000 to replace. I use my X7 to drop off kids and grocery. My Wrangler is built for offroad.
There is a trick for the 130 to look better, install the side ladder at the end of the roof rack (you hv to do some modification on the mounting side), it will balance the rear proportion. with some rear-end stickers, it will look as great as the 110.
The defender would be better for off-roading and a more rugged lifestyle, but the X7 is faster, sportier, Way more luxurious, higher quality materials, and just more luxurious looking inside and out. And realistically are you going to buy a 3 row SUV/BUS to offload?? No you would just buy a defender 90 or 110.
For going off-road, it seems to me from looking at Defenders that the lower part of the real suspension might be a bit too low for a medium stone on the road in comparison to a Pajero, Patrol, Wrangler or Land Cruiser. But what makes me considering the Defender is the legroom of the 3rd raw.
For most people the X7 will be best. Landrovers been having many many issues like leaking water hoses, electrical, power steering etc. X7 was thinking when they put that grab handle to get in. Land Rover failed to put one in. Defender is good looking, but its kind of cheap in some areas. If you offroad enough it will be better than the X7 but most people don't do much of that.
BMW is more realible oddly enough. Meaning the defender will go in and break, more than the bmw. But offroading get land cruiser. But if you ain't get the BMW X7

Sport only comes in 2 row seating while both Defender 130 and X7 have 3 rows of seats. Could compare with the Range Rover HSE long wheel base 7 seater but then it's in a different price range - starting at $112K in the US.
You have to consider will the Defender look good and feel comfortable sitting in a pool of its own oil on the side of a motorway. If you answer yes hand over that money
