Remember doing this with my dog Bonny, I think by the time I'd meandered I'd done 14miles, she had a GPS in her backpack and wandered 32 miles! :) Happy days. A super hot day, never been happier to see a little beck down from sand hill. :) Feet in and chugged water. Great video.

I did this same walk last year although I did it clockwise, included Hopegill Head and omitted Causey Pike, Outerside & Barrow, so not the same walk at all. A really well done vid. This is one of my wife and I favourite walks. Started at same place as you did but included Hopegill Head as we we bagging hills. We were going to do it clockwise, but when we were at Sand Hill and saw the blood red faces of those coming up in 75° heat I was grateful for going the other way. It looked hard word as it was loose underfoot.

this looks like it should be our next walk when we return. and as usual the videos are inspiring and informative. is it possbile to reverse the direction and head up the Barrow first or does that make no sense? thanks for all these films.
Thank you. Yes, I’d say this can be done clockwise - ultimately there’s no particular advantage either way, with this route. Hope you have a good day for it. Let us know how you get on!
Loved this video and I’m going to attempt the horseshoe in August. Can I ask a question? Why are certain peaks/summits not considered when searching for all the peaks in the lakes. On the map of this route for example is Sand Hill and Hobcarton Crag, but they get no mention. Just wondering the rules of peak bagging as it were, for when I do the route.
Thank you! The only peaks that we tend to highlight are those that count as Wainwrights (I.e. those that Alfred Wainwright, sometimes for his own reasons, decided were worth including in his guidebooks: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Wainwrights). This does mean that perfectly lovely hills or peaks don’t necessarily get the attention or visitors they deserve, but that’s the only logic to it. With this walk, we did not include Hopegill Head, which is a Wainwright, simply because of time, to allow the latter ones to be reached, so sometimes the only reason a peak isn’t “bagged” is logistics. How long did this take you please? I'm hoping to do this in couple of weeks time
Our filming takes longer than a normal walk, but this is probably a 6-7 hour walk. Hope you have a great time!
