I'm 66 and now live in Seattle. Back in the mid 70s I would ride my motorcycle to Chino airport and for a small fee I could go into any restoration hanger I wanted and could touch and go into any plane that was there, and one was their Me-262. I was fascinated by the lawn mower pull starter on the front tip of the jet engine nose cone. It actually started a two stroke engine which help turn over the jet engine to start. To this day I have a small service door round cover from that Me 262 that was lying on the floor. I got to see so many famous planes long before they were restored including a AM-6 Zero and the original small orange prototype flying wing. Decades later I got to see that very same AM-6 Zero restored and fly over my house in Seattle in 2010 during Seafair. Great stuff.
@@emerykinzie794 Thank you for your comment... Decades later I now with a family moved from LA to Seattle in 2000 where I found by pure accident/rumor of a restoration hanger owned by Paul Allen. Few people knew of this place all you had to do is find this tiny unmarked door on this huge hanger, open it and it was Chino all over again. To my shock and my kids who are airplane nuts like me, many airplanes that went missing in LA parks were there! One was the Navy Vought Corsair that I used to climb on at Griffith Park. And better yet they were restoring a Wild-Cat and my first thought was that some day Chino's AM-Zero and the Wildcat would fly together.. My dream came true when both the Chino Zero and Paul Allen's WildCat flew over our house on Mercer Island during a Seattle Sea-fair event. Needless to say I was with my children and they were totally aware of their restoration history. I was in tears. Unfortunately after Paul passed away and the hanger turned into a fancy no touch museum and no longer can you just wonder in willy-nilly. It is a great museum non the less. I also discovered that we lived just a couple blocks away from Paul Allen's shore front home on Mercer Island. I only discovered thos as I got to know several of his staff. Small world. A year after they shut down the tiny door, the kids and I drove around the Paine field airport and discovered the hanger where they were restoring a ME 262 and again you could go in and actually touch the ME jet and talk with those restoring the jet. I told them about the ME at Chino and were shocked that I knew any thing about it. Enjoy, ( : Dan
I like seeing a pro modeler fix mistakes on camera like you did. Us fellow modelers need to see that more often. Thank you for being vulnerable! And nice build!
One of my favorite things about your videos is you aren’t afraid to post mistakes and how to fix them. I think that’s ultimately more encouraging for views to really go for the gusto on their own builds versus seeing some slick edited video that makes it look like everything goes off without a hitch.
I visited this shop yesterday The first thing I noticed was how clean the shop was 1st there is a fabulous collection of models from planes to tanks to ships to other various model kits 2nd outstanding selection of all model paints made by various makers 3rd also selection of modelling tools and tape 4th was how the owner took his time to help with enquiries and also helped me with a tape I never knew about to help me with masking so it doesn't peel off paint work I had already Also say he's prices are extremely competitive all I can I say is this store is well worth the visit we travelled over 60 miles he had everything I needed I can assure you that will be the only place I will be getting all my modelling needs in future whether it's online or going in person if I had to score it would be 10 out of 10
What an amazing build of an amazing aircraft. It is a tremendous hobby and I recommend it to anyone. Build and build. It’s relaxing and working with your hands is very rewarding.
I honestly wish my work came even close to your "imperfect" build. Amazing rescue on the panel. It's a beautiful museum quality build in my eyes. I'm learning a great deal from you. Although my attempts fall a bit short I'll keep trying.
David R Lentz, Columbus, Ohio, USA (Tuesday, 3 September, 2024) What a joyous quadrifecta! 1) a Tamiya model kit of 2) a remarkable, indeed, intriguing topic, 3) CMK mixed media detail sets, and to top it all off, 4) a skilful model builder! As satisfying as anyone could want! (Well, short of the means to follow in your stead to do much the same.) Thanks, Andy. BTW, the last-minute correction: openly acknowledging it, and showing here your effort to repair the error all reveal your adaptability in a tight spot. You now are “the Error Repairer”! In fact, you could make T shirts to that effect: black, with “the Error Repairer” in bright blue across the chest about two-thirds the way up from the centre, with “Scale Model Shed” immediately below in bright yellow. Then, just to the left of the middle, an illustration (a well-rendered line drawing in white-no, not me!) of your likeness making a bit of frown, as a big, bright-red splodge of paint intrudes from the right . . . .
I'm glad you went back to fix the front windshield. You know it's just of those things that when you finish a build you keep looking at until it drives you nuts . Looks 100% better ! I see Tamiya has reissued the Me262 with the Kittenkrag tow tractor as a package deal as well as few other classic combo's! The prices are well below what people were getting for them online ! Your beautiful Me262 will be one I'll be picking up !
The weathering on these builds is incredible. I really enjoyed this video, even as a mainly aeroplane builder myself there’s always plenty to learn from this motor content. Excellent work Andy.
In the end a great build of my favourite bird. I've long pined for a new tooled 48th kit with slats and flaps but you've shown me it can still be done without hunting around for rare resin sets.
Despite the issues it looks fabulous. If you can, go to the shop, this and other models are there to see. Unfortunately I’m never going to get this good.
I know for a fact that it were my real time service aircraft there would be bird poop , and bug guts all over it , cause that’s my truck ! Incredible build .
It looks really good to me. I’d be super proud if I made something that good. Thanks for my recent order too. I’ll check out your store again in the future!
Hah, the bit with the resin engine reminded me of my attempt to integrate one into a HobbyBoss 1/48 Me-262, and my hare brained scheme to separate a section of resin engine from its pouring plug using a scalpel blade...that finally decided to go straight through it and into my palm. Fun times, lol, and lesson learned 😋
Wonderful model. Having worked on the real thing and built the full size flying replica's. That's a great job. Not to be a ball buster. Gear down and parked the automatic leading edge slats would be down. I know the model makers did not mold them in the wings to be out, I will guess? Love the detail Jumo 004's and cockpit. Gun sight a Rev 16?
Excellent attention to detail 👏 One tip is to use Tamiya Airbrush Cleaner for bonding and making 'sprue goo' as it's the same as Extra Thin and works out much cheaper 😊
Great result Andy and well done with all that tricky effort to put right the areas you weren't happy with. As for the strap hanging outside the cockpit I always think which careless so and so left the aircraft like that! the wind will make the buckle rattle against the airframe and chip the paint. Always a black mark in today's world but I suppose the least of the Luftwaffe's worries at that stage of the war.
Beautiful air plane. Nice selection. Why the engine exposure? Personaly think having correct 1945 weapons load out and color pattern will give you a better effect then exposed engines.
Great work on the red and blue markings: not worth painting the crosses too? I've started painting markings at 1/48 for no other reason than we go the extra mile with colour and tone variation in the paintwork only to lay perfect paintwork water slide transfers over the top. The paints used for markings were affected by environmental conditions and maintenance just like the paint on the rest of the aircraft. I've not yet invested in a vinyl cutting machine but I've had great results with tamiya tape so far and just treated them like the rest of the paint when it comes to chipping, sanding, 'blooming', and all that.
I really enjoy your builds and especially enjoy seeing you make stupid mistakes. I feel so much better about myself! 😎. Thank you for being transparent and seeing what it takes to recover. Also, us “regular” model builders often think when we have a problem, “oh shoot! I screwed that up (like the canopy gap in yours). So yes! Even Tamiya provides us with challenges that is not our fault. One more thing …can you keep up the text of your product description longer please.
Excellent build and great tips on building and painting but wouldn’t surface priming detected the uneven surface before you started airbrush mottling the Me262’s RLM colors? 38:00
Excellent build! So that panel that's part of the cross, I assume it was cannibalized from an Me-262 that was too damaged to fly, which accounts for the misaligned crosspiece. Even so, I'll bet that drove the pilot and crew crazy given how meticulous the Germans were.
The me-262 was also a night fighter that would be mostly black. the most advanced aircraft in the world in 1945 and were used with extreme brutality and lethal aircraft. If your found by your in big trouble.
Looks great! Does the perfect model even exist? There is always something that could be a little bit better in the end. I've never managed to build the perfect model 😅
If I'd built the model and was confronted by the bad gap in the end, my first though would have been "Nah". Quickly followed by "Fixing this will probably ruin the build". So the final score would have been Gap 1x 0 Me. But that surely makes me an exception.
I never use mask on my surfaces I am going to glue. Too easy to just scrape it with a hobby knife or use sandpaper and knock the paint off with those. I have been modeling for over 46 years and have my share of tips. =)
It is not a perfect build to the person who built the model. It IS a perfect build to all who did not build the model. Incredible work.
Exactly! We are never happy with our own builds.
The next one will be better.
That says it well for me, too.

That’s awesome I wish I could do that someday

This is an amazing kit and only et down by the front windshield. Your fix was excellently done Sir. Top marks.
I visited this shop yesterday The first thing I noticed was how clean the shop was
1st there is a fabulous collection of models from planes to tanks to ships to other various model kits
2nd outstanding selection of all model paints made by various makers
3rd also selection of modelling tools and tape
4th was how the owner took his time to help with enquiries and also helped me with a tape I never knew about to help me with masking so it doesn't peel off paint work I had already
Also say he's prices are extremely competitive all I can I say is this store is well worth the visit we travelled over 60 miles he had everything I needed I can assure you that will be the only place I will be getting all my modelling needs in future whether it's online or going in person if I had to score it would be 10 out of 10
Humbled.
No other word for it.
God bless these ridiculously brave men. Regardless of who they were flying for.
It just shows that almost any model from even the very best manufacturers can have flaws to overcome. Bravo with the finish!
What an amazing build of an amazing aircraft. It is a tremendous hobby and I recommend it to anyone. Build and build. It’s relaxing and working with your hands is very rewarding.
Fantastic video Andy! Thanks for showing off what our RLM colours can do.

I prefer to see builds that are imperfect as it shows us how to rectify the issues that we all get ourselves in. A great model.
The weathering on these builds is incredible. I really enjoyed this video, even as a mainly aeroplane builder myself there’s always plenty to learn from this motor content. Excellent work Andy.
Except for the boondoggle with the front windscreen your finishes model looks excellent. Great work!
That was a bit of an impressive rescue. Amazing model.
Nice workflow, windshield seam fix and final result.
In the end a great build of my favourite bird. I've long pined for a new tooled 48th kit with slats and flaps but you've shown me it can still be done without hunting around for rare resin sets.
Fantastic build again Andy, I particularly appreciated your approach to correcting the canopy fit late in the build. See you soon in the shop
Despite the issues it looks fabulous. If you can, go to the shop, this and other models are there to see. Unfortunately I’m never going to get this good.
Great work on the canopy at the end, and reassuring that even a very good modeller can make mistakes. Thanks for the encouragement 👍🏻
It takes courage to go back on a finished model for correction, very risky. Well done my friend.
I know for a fact that it were my real time service aircraft there would be bird poop , and bug guts all over it , cause that’s my truck ! Incredible build .
It looks really good to me. I’d be super proud if I made something that good. Thanks for my recent order too. I’ll check out your store again in the future!
Love your attention to detail, wish I could do some of that, when I try it always turns out a disaster lol
Courageous on the seam line fix post built! and definitely worth it
That’s model making on another level
Looks great! Loved seeing how you fixed that gap!
Hah, the bit with the resin engine reminded me of my attempt to integrate one into a HobbyBoss 1/48 Me-262, and my hare brained scheme to separate a section of resin engine from its pouring plug using a scalpel blade...that finally decided to go straight through it and into my palm. Subd! Absolutely incredible work! The chipped paint gives it such realism. Especially from the end of the buckle.
Excellent attention to detail 👏
One tip is to use Tamiya Airbrush Cleaner for bonding and making 'sprue goo' as it's the same as Extra Thin and works out much cheaper 😊
Turned out to be a great looking warbird.
Glad you could fix the issue eventhough it might have cost some of your sanity. 😯
Nice work and a good save at the end! Thanks, I enjoyed that.
Superb finish to a testing build paint scheme looks excellent 👍
Very nice build as always saw it today in the shop
Amazing work and stunning result. Well done mate!
Stunning build my friend... cheers from Argentina!
Excellent video and beautiful work, thank you very much for sharing it, I send you greetings from southern Argentina.
Hey, I was just planning on building this one! Excillent timing!
Excellent work
Iam supper lucky to own a host of the clear edition of this kit lovely job on yours fella
Guy's like you make me so jealous, you're an artist. I can't say enough except awesome job.

very nice build...and well done on that correction...keep up
Love it.
I wish I could do things like that
Simply a piece of art

Hi nice me262 I mainly build military figures and AFV but might get one of these in the future
Excellent walk through on how you came to the end result. It came out really nice 👍 subbed 💥👍💥
Awesome work my friend keep up the good work 👍
nice to see the Swastika on the tail for accuracy... a finger to the snowflakes.
Looks very, very nice. But be careful with using maskol. ;) All the best for You! ;)
Excellent build and great tips on building and painting but wouldn’t surface priming detected the uneven surface before you started airbrush mottling the Me262’s RLM colors? 38:00
Looks absolutely amazing. I really like this plane. Currently got 17 of those beauties :-)
amazing model build.
Thank you for a very instructive video. You've brought many of us to a higher skill level.
Love it bru. Keep up the good work
Das es ist Besönderer.. Perfekt!
Beautiful as always!
Another perfect build
Superb detail,great job
Brilliantly done.
I'd be proud of it
Awesome build 👍

Isn't it true that we are our own worse critic.
I think she came out real nice.
Well done !
She's a beauty!
Hello, I see many people using Mr surface primer . Is it better than primer in a can? Tamyia or other sprayers?
nothing to said MATE Job WELL DONE......!!
A great video. I am virtualy a new commer so i have some basic questions.
impressive.
Very impressive 👏
What is the song at 10:20?
what brand are the thin sanding sticks you're using?
Congratulatións of Spain, of Manuel, 😊😊😊😊👍👍👍👍🐂🐂🐂🏃🐂🐂
4:50 I feel like this has far more application for table top miniatures - particularly for resin
化けるねーいい腕です
10% thinner what does the mixture is mixed would be great for reference
If I'd built the model and was confronted by the bad gap in the end, my first though would have been "Nah". Quickly followed by "Fixing this will probably ruin the build". So the final score would have been Gap 1x 0 Me. But that surely makes me an exception.
Any chance of shipping to the states in the future?
........Exquisite...... 🤷🏼♂️
Super 120% 👍🏻
I never use mask on my surfaces I am going to glue. Too easy to just scrape it with a hobby knife or use sandpaper and knock the paint off with those. I have been modeling for over 46 years and have my share of tips. =)
i m like y'our réalisation
New Me-262 or the old one from 1990 ?
Only thing is you should've colored the nose yellow, depicting the plane belonging to a squadron leader.
I never did model planes before and Therese a reason for that. Mine would look nothing like that.
elegancko 👌🏿👌🏻👌🏾👌🏼👌🏽👌
