Outside of the front lights on this car (which feel rather "Amazon aftermarket"), this has to be one of the coolest Japanese resto-mods on the market. Takes me back to Colin McRae hooning the original through a forest at break-neck speeds with a body panel missing and a tire gone. Pro-Drive hit it out of the park with this one! I wish we could have gotten a deep dive into the rebuild process as I think many people would like to understand how much R&D and labor went into these. Most people seem to think Prodrive just ordered some gearbox and coilovers and some bodywork and screwed it all together. I think this car is hiding a lot of R&D and manhours and I would love to see what went into making these cars happen.

    • @bingoberra18

They didnt pay homage to the street car WRX, they paid homage to the WRC car that they built for Colin Mcrae and that is a competition rallycar not a econobox semi-sportscar. When a company like Prodrive is tasked to do a nut and bolt rebuild with proprietary parts it´s not going to be cheap how ever you look at it as they could have spent that time building actual rally cars which cost the same.

Also, I would say Prodrive are putting out a 100% top quality product, but there are other companies that can do similar projects, for a lot less. A LOT less. @@Elberoth incredibly shortsighted. The obvious answer to this is look at a mainstream manufacturer like Ferrari etc where they can also build a limited production car for much less.
But I'm not talking about that. Ferrari can build you an ENTIRE car for less. This is smaller in scope, because the original chassis is used. If you went to Roger Clark, or Scoobyclinic, or many others that specialize in Subarus, you could get a similar product for much less.

i've never seen anybody driving a car in a review so obviously being shaken around by the absolute lack of suspension as Meaden! He could hardly speak. I used to own an 03 plate WRX from new, which I had the Subaru garage add the Provide Performance Pack, and since the suspension was too soft the stiffer springs which I didn't know lowered the car too. In addition STi wheels that came off the WR1 when that came in to the country. This combination was excellent. Far better throttle response with less pronounced turbo lag and smoother from off boost and into boost. Road holding with the RE070 tyres was excellent, but the spring kit was just perfect for the local B roads. Better body control, which I was looking for, but able to absorb all the bumps. Yet still a comfortable drive. Probably quite unique combination but it really suited the car and the car really suited the roads around me. I miss that car.

Same! He's in a paint shaker!!! I had a 2005 WRX PPP. I put it on eibach springs and KYB shocks because the OEM upside down dampers were shot, and it handled great and rode like a dream. This thing has the spring rate of concrete and he utterly fails to mention it. A more supple car would be faster, easier to drive and closer to the WRC cars which had pliant damping and travel!!! And let's not forget the joy of a WRX was anyone could afford one.

Yes, suspension is like a high pass filter where higher frequencies of bumps are passed through. Faster you go, higher the frequency, the more compliant the suspension becomes. What a thing, and will hopefully garner the attention of a new generation of enthusiasts who will keep these Grp A era Imprezas running when we all retire from them. What's great for the average punter is that 90% of what Meaden said about this car could be applied to a factory GC8 Type RA or R, at 1/20th of the price. Plus you get one of the most tactile manual gearboxes of all time in those. They ride beautifully as well, and are devoid of all the modern driver assist that buffer driver from machine. I have an RA and each time I drive it I'm smitten again; tactile, agile, balanced and so direct. My ultimate road car.

That front end lets it down massively. The original looked amazing. Some bit of kit though.

Amazing car, slightly (for now) out of my budget but I imagine it must be bollocks to drive ! You guys at EVO should consider an all GrA rally car test (like in the old days with the numerous Impreza and Eco road tests....). But for this one you should take all the eye watering expensive but magnificent remakes.
The P25 ,Best Impreza, Maturo Lancia Delta, Redux M3 to name a few, there are more out there....and compare them with their (OEM) grandfathers....
    Should be an intresting test.

Also, why does it have slots for rear seat belts in the C pillar trim when it's caged and 2 seater only? His voice is very jumpy, that must be a crap ride!

I love this modern version of the Subaru Evo with carbon fibre parts the two things i don't like for me it's has a little less horsepower than i would like it to have and the other thing is the price £500 thousand pounds is to much, but i suppose because it limited to a small number of the P25 being built which makes it quite special.
