join me for a 300 km drive in One mans Dream car, his interoperation of a 917 K PORSCHE On some Epic Norwegian roads. #getoutanddrive #porsche #opp #turbo #norway
This gentlemen did a fantastic job putting this replica together. You are lucky to have been able to experience it. Most people would give their right arm to get a shot at driving this. Good for you Magnus! Keep stories like this coming!
Next best thing. Go invest in a decent VR headset, gaming PC, force feedback wheel, and Assetto Corsa game. You can drive this car and many more. Not the real thing but the closest you can get. This car around the Nurburgring is awesome.
What a beautiful tribute to the 917. You wouldn't believe how small the 917 is in person. A 914 is just about as big. The 917 always looked so large in photos and film. I saw my first 917K at the very first Rennsport Reunion at Lime Rock Park back in the day. Got to say hello to Norbert Singer as well!
Holy crap. I've never seen a 917 in person but I have seen a 914. Its hard to grasp that a car the size of a 914 hit 230+ mph. LOL. I met a guy who won the Daytona 24hr Race in his class while in a 911. And the most mind blowing thing I remember talking about is he said, accelerating and doing 180 or so on the straight away was the time he could calm down, relax, check the gauges, take a sip of water until the turns came back and it's probably the same at LeMans, the straights are the time to relax a bit even doing 250mph plus. Thanks for putting the size of the 917 into perspective for me. I have yet to see one, even a replica in person.
The original is arguably one of the best looking sports cars ever build, and to me this even tops it because the dude made it so he could drive it on the road. Some of the footage almost looked like CG, too good to be real :D Fantastic!
it gets better and better as you go further north, too. People talk so much about the Oslo-Bergen rail trip, and it's great, but the north... incredible. Go see Lofotodden National Park.
@@hagestad I don’t think you watched the video. 1000kg and “only” 3-350hp is still a much better ratio than any old 911. How much power does your 917 have? :)

Absolutely unbelievable. Watched every second. The precision, passion, and time taken to painstakingly bring this car to life as close to original as possible but also make the completely custom changes is beyond amazing.
I drove the very same roads together with my son, in my 66beetle, and stayed at the same Laerdalsoyri Motorhotel . EPIC! (And I am born and raised in the fjords of Norway, but the scenery amazes me every time)
There’s something about building your own version of a special car. I built my own 997 GT2RS over a 5 year period from a 997 Turbo. Not as amazing as this car of course but building the car involves staring at images of the original and trying to find out if you can buy or have made the same item for your car. Great experience.
I’m just stunned by the level of detail here. Godsmacked! I don’t care if this is a replica. He had Porsche factory help and it’s as close to the factory car. But better it ways safety wise, I believe. Seeing this car on those fantastic Norway roads was mind blowing. I would have felt like I was in the real car. What was baffling to me at the end of this video Magnus stops off the road at that weird looking hut and going swimming in a lake in the middle of winter. What was that all about? A Viking thing? Now I’m wondering if Magnus’s roots are from Norway. Truly an amazing video!
The hut was a sauna. So heated up quite a lot. That gives you time still personally hot body to get to and in, and back out of the very cold water. To me watching that sauna section I think he had to keep the heat down to not fog up the camera lenses. He didn't act highly heated/ sweaty. Nor did he have sweat all over and steam rising as he walked, oddly slow, to and into the cold lake. (In other words, while wanted to, Magnus ended up not really taking much of a sauna.)
Another possibility why Magnus didn't actually get a sauna: The folks who were supposed to heat it didn't show up/ didn't get the word. He couldn't then wait 2 hours for them. Had to return the 917, catch a flight... So he tried to make it look like he had a sauna (but zero steam rising showed he didn't). Magnus took a shower at the motel and...
Somewhere on UA-cam there is a video of a British company that can make you a replica 917. They have digitised the whole plan and were also going to reproduce the flat 12 engine. However, this replica is a testament to the owner's drive for perfection and ambition. Magnificent and I am so envious. Kudos to Magnus Walker for his intelligent questioning as well.
Video of the year...Totally incredible....I would listen to you 2 all day long....Respect gentlemen..And Magnus, you asked ALL the right questions...Wow...
Thank you Magnus with the dialog and your listening abilities to the owners of theses amazing motorcars. This time you went up a notch... An amazing build. There isn't a question from Magnus that he cannot answer. More than impressed! Kind of cool to see the Esso name... haven't seen that in the states since I was a kid. (For the record, I never use Exxon/Mobil gasoline).
Ok, I typically don’t like replicas because… they’re not real. But that opinion changes when it’s a LeMans car built using the original factory Porsche specs. That’s pretty sick. This car is awesome, the level of work and attention to detail is next level. It’s close enough, and managed to adhere to pretty restrictive rules. Love this so much. Owner is a legend.
What an incredible piece of engineering and what an honour to be able to drive it and experience such a wonder. This has to be one of my all time favourite videos on UA-cam full stop. Awesome Magnus. You are a very special man. Well done Knut for realising your dream
We stayed in that wooden hotel while touring norway few years back, it was off season and called the number on the door,, the owner came rolling down the street in a ferrari 360, we paid cash for half board & the guy said he was off to fill his tank up and get back up the mountains for a couple f9 hours again. What a cool dude
When he's talking about the original aluminium frames on 917's breaking during racing, I remember reading that Porsche had come up with the idea of filling the tubes with gas so that the pit-stop mechanics could smell/tell immediately if the frame on a race car had cracked anywhere! :0)
It's actually a movie reference to the old stop-motion animation film Flåklypa grand prix (Pinchcliffe grand prix in english). One of the competing racers in the movie is called that.
I think the generation of “vehicle” enthusiasts 300 years from now will appreciate this creation in the same way we can appreciate a Spanish galleon from the golden age of sail.
Fun drinking game. Every time the car owner begins an answer with the word "so", take a shot. Guaranteed that before the 5-minute mark you'll be laying on the floor in a puddle of your own vomit and piss, unable to speak...😂
I don’t have the words to describe what a cool car that 917 is, cooler than the snow capped mountains in the background. Excellent work Magnus, truly excellent.

This level of a build is impressive. Most have no idea of the work involved and commitment to project. I have built 2 959 speedsters and can only imagine what it took to build this. Amazing.
It's so beautiful I'd love to have one if it only had 4 cylinders. Since I was a kid, I never understood why there weren't more production cars that had this body style

First video I've seen of yours, wow what a beautiful car, certainly got my attention. Just felt like you're "interview" style was more interrogation than a friendly chat, absolutely bombarding the guy with multiple things but interrupting him mid sentence as he's trying to reply, some of the comments seemed a bit condescending for example the zip tie duct tape comment. I may have got you totally wrong as like I say I've only seen this one video. I'm not one for writing comments normally but this bugged me so.....? Fantastic camera work and enjoyed the talk over work.
I was just in Norway for a 5-week-long road trip (incl. Laerdal) - but in a camper. The roads and the nature is simply incredible, would have loved to have my 944S there, let alone a 917 🥰

Nothing but flat farm land and a flat boxer engine 917 out driving that land it’s a beautiful thing to see and hear!! Not the place you’d ever expect to see a 917 driving by even more crazy to see it there than Norway!

😊 Man there was so many Porsches at Norway. I would love to be there I’m a freak of Porsches or a Porsche nut or a Porsche enthusiast Porsche, all in my room and in boxes with hot wheels and matchbox one of these days I’ll buy a Porsche.
Knut is the father of my ex girlfriend who I unfortunately am not together with anymore. Luckily I got to experience the last 3 years of the building process of this amazing car. Knut is an extremely talented man who has an exceptional attention to detail. I remember he used several months on just the door hinges, as an example. I have ridden in this amazing car, and it is an experience of a lifetime, there is no other car that compares. I wish I was able to continue to be a part of this amazing piece of artwork.
An interesting bit of tech way ahead of its time was the frame for the original 917's, it was "permanently pressurized with nitrogen to help keep it solid and detect cracks", which is kind of crazy considering the stresses on the chassis. I've loved this car since I was a kid, it looks, and sounds so raw, and primal. My favorite it the rear, and those massive tires, every bit needed to keep all that power in check. This is a beautiful, and honest nod to it's great legacy, great work.

Well, that was probably the best video I've ever seen on anything Porsche! Thanks Magnus, you are the Man!
One of the most unique cars and locations. Inner child is real in this one. Rock on!
Awesome build , can only imagine the smile you get driving this .
WOW! Just wow! What a build and what a fantastic experience. A taste of the past. 👌
He dropped some serious coin on a full carbon fiber body. Respect.
This was fantastic. Magnus kept on coming with the questions, I appreciate that he was quite thorough. The 917 is one of my all time favorite cars. Easily one of the greatest cars ever built.
Porsche. There Is No Substitute.
Thanks mr. Walker you are a real petrolhead . I am also a petrolhead i bought 2 Jaguars XJS 5.3 in Amerika to restore. Keep going mr. Walker I watch them all thanks
To me, the most beautiful race car of all time. Jaguar XJ13 and Lola T70 right behind it. Thanks for a great vid.
This proves once again that there are still Heroes who build their own cars. Awesome.
This car needs no excuses nor a fake 12 cover. It's kick ass as it is. Really any replica 917 with a close enough accurate body ,a tube chassis and a Porsche motor. Is really all a kick ass 917 replica. Needs. It doesn't need a 12 at all.
Great build great car.
Since I was a kid in the 1970's this has been my favorite race car. Very beautiful IMHO
😊❤😊 sick 917 that is so damn sweet Mangus keep up the good work bro can you do a very good job with the Porsche enthusiast keep up the good work and have a good day peace
this guy has great talent and should build a "texas legal" version of this baby
Very glad this popped up in my lunch break, My all time favorite livery on one of the best all time cars Skal 😀
I live vicariously through this content 👌🏾
I remember the little slot cars porsches like this.
Was allways fascinated by the design and engineering of these cars.
The sound of that engine =Porche there is no substitute.
I had this car with my AFX slot car track when I was 7, circa 1971
Beautiful, so much passion and soul! It's not the real deal but it's almost as epic!
The “Schnellfahrer” (loosely translated to “fast driver”) under the driver’s name is ::chef’s kiss:: What an awesome build.
The door closing 🎶 Perfection 🤌
The greatest most beautiful race car ever... The Porsche 917
A 917 in this wonderland landscape makes is surreal - I love it.
This is beyond cool. Incredible car and the most stunning scenery. I want to visit Norway!
