    There's just something about the 90s JDM cars that makes them really special. I can't quite put my finger on what it is. We had Evos, STIs, Skylines GT-Rs, Silvias, Supras, Integras, RX-7s and what not. It makes me sad that all those cars (and days) are gone.

      The last sentence in your statement answers why. Nowadays they make stuff for economy and pretty much have extracted all the personality their pre-2000's counterparts had. They stopped being reliable tuners and started to be the cars you buy for your kids. Most people dont even know that honda's civics used to be/could be souped up for racing;Spoons. Same with subaru/mitsubishi and their rallying scene.On top of all that, they were affordable. Look at the GTR now, compared to its r32/33 counterparts, even adjusting for inflation, they were cheaper and still are.
      Plus in japan, their car ownership tax process eventually causes the cars they own to be scrapped because itd be financial suicide to continue the ownership. Youll have to read more on that though as I only know very little about it.
      TL;DR: JDM went to Economy groupings and put off their racing group(what made them) to people with who have money out the ass to by these, once, exhalted cars;Exclusivity.

      Toyota has made a limited edition Yaris but it's a FWD, superchargered 1.8 with, so nothing like a WRC car.

    Recently I come across 90's cars driven by young people quite often. I don't know how the other countries are like, but Japan is like that, actually it is more often than late 2000's.
    I think it means even young Japanese don't really get atrracted to recent sport cars.
    I hope not only Japanese companies, but also car companies in the world think about that again. Young people's passion to sport cars will never change.

    • @og.takumi
      @og.takumi 7 років тому +3

      Very true, but those new strict emission/enviorment laws around the world are killing sport cars out. Many goverments and big companies are focusing on building cheap enconmic cars and electric cars instead of performance cars. Time has changed, it's just sad :(

    • @MrSneakmind
      @MrSneakmind 7 років тому +2

      This is beautiful, and true. I have been to Japan all my life for vacations, and yet only much later in my life I started to really love cars, and when I went back to Japan, excited to notice all the cars I would now see, I look at the cars and am ... apathetic. Kei cars are cool but I thought everyone would be driving cool cheap sports cars for some reason. Silly, and wrong. I did see a LanEvo though, and a stanced WRX. Maybe next time I'll see more.
      As for modern car companies, I think they are starting to care about enthusiasts, with GT86 and more new sports cars. Although Subaru and Mitsubishi will never be back again I don't think so at least :(

Who cares if you have 400hp in your RS3 it's driven by the pentium chip not your hands and feet. I really miss cars like this the only cars that have got close are the R26R for example.

    that evo is SO BEAUTIFUL. I love me a modded Evo, but I would rock the 6.5 Evo with that livery if I had one, and DEFINITELY keep it bone stock. Do not usually care about keeping things stock, but WOW. Japan in the 90's was unstoppable. I wish I was more conscious than like ~2 ish years for it. I can't believe it is worth less than the Subie, I would absolutely pay more for it. The Subaru is also beautiful though, and a great and worthy opponent. But Evo is definitely the winner. I love these Subaru cars!!! That low centre of gravity around the corners, no need to understand that they are Rally legends. But as a guy, that fix his own car on a sidewalk in front of the house I would go for EVO. Boxter engine is hard to work on, as to do for example a head gasket replacement you have to take the engine out, wherewith 4G63 you just go with it. Even the turbo is mounted in the front so you can replace it quickly if you running on a track. Well thank you if you read this comment in full, there is no such thing as a RED or BLUE. No matter what you pick they are legends and badass! ;)

      Absolutely true... the Evo... In particular the Makinen Edition saw as much as 220-230 kw... which makes sense as the times these cars were pulling "standard" just wasn't right with the power to weight ratio... Hell, my stock Makinen pulled a 12.4 quarter mile at 3000km old...about 114-116mph..iirc,. the readout has long since faded to unreadable... sadly..

    Absolute epic "B" roads you're driving on mate... wow!!! Jealous much!!!!!!
    As a Australian (Scotia white) Makinen owner since new, yes... 17+ years I've owned one 23,800km later.And still completely standard too!!.. I Really enjoyed this Vid.. The 22B really is the Holy Grail of the WRX Impreza's, But we never got them here.. Real Shame that.. Beast of a car with the perfect body... Definitely would own one... if I had the $$... the best shape and best incarnation of the GC8 model...Perfect!
    But as far as Evo Lancers go... the Makinen Edition is still my absolute favourite...Driven nearly all.. (except the II and 7... and the Evo 9 Wagon of course lol) \
    Nothing comes close to the way this car handles, talks to you whilst driving and the sheer fun these cars are to drive... Standard.. there's not a lot that'll keep up with them on normal roads...The status of collectible rally icons is true... these two cars are to salivate over... especially if they're completely standard!!! Nice work!!!

      @@jeffel80 respect where it's due, yes, maybe nowadays especially since the Japanese market is starting to get sorta lackluster tbh.. but if you get any muscle car pre 2013, it will not be a good handler stock or possibly modified because they are simply too big and have a harder time getting around corners and especially the hairpins that most older Japanese cars from the 90' and even the 00's can do with much more ease!
      I know I may seem biased, but my favorite company is Dodge and it always will be, (kinda a coincidence that Mitsubishi is also one of my favorite Japanese companies too) and my dream Muscle car is a 1968-1970 Dodge Charger... If not that then the 04-06 GTO would be my second pick.. I still do like Muscle cars, just the only reason I never buy is not only because they are generally more expensive even though they are more bang for buck for the power maybe, but also I just don't have as much a connection to them as I do with [V6]/I4 Japanese imports! Also, it's just cheaper and easier to use for every kind of road course or hairpins that most muscle cars just can't do..
      Will say this though, I would buy a Muscle car before I buy any German car despite how good those can be too... I would not be caught dead in anything BMW especially!

    • @jordanprice9285
      @jordanprice9285 6 років тому

      @Gareth Johnstone but why wouldn't they want a power war? I mean, I get that they won't want it to get out of hand, but isn't that what you would want seeing the kinda of cars that came out because of it and the new tech and stuff that they can produce would have been mesmerizing! I'm genuinely curious my guy.. also, wasn't the 90's Big 6 (300ZX, 3000GT/GTO, Supra, Skyline, RX-7, NSX) also apart of this since they couldn't go over 276hp even though they all made well over 300 (despite the NSX and RX-7)
