I live videos like this. Often times we get new vehicles and would like to do things like this. But no one has attempted such a job yet. Great video man. Saying that, I thought the Type-would crazy cooking for the drive train.
I know the instructions say to remove the bumper but you can technically install the cooler without doing that. You need fairly slender arms, knuckles of steel and some patience. Took me about 1 hour start to finish fiddling with the bolts from above and I didnt touch the bumper. You'll need to remove the horn to get the third bolt on. And you can route the two pipes going to the cooler from inside the engine bay once the intake is removed
You did an awesome job with this and thank you for taking the time to do this video. My onlything that pisses me off...is that acura does not mention this to anyone....you buy the SUV thinking you will be able to tow 5000lb stock....and its not true.....you go to the dealer and they tell you it can tow 5000lb....but don't tell you about the ATF cooler. I wonder if anyone has damaged their MDX because they did not know.
Does Acura offer an option to have the transmission cooler from the factory? On Lexus, if you order the AWD, you get the transmission and oil cooler as part of the package.
I have to assume you have a lot of experience with Honda or Acura products, amazing work and patience to do the job. Maybe you should be working with Acura so they can make better cars from the get go.
What’s more mind boggling is thatbhe wants to install a part that should already be standard in the MDX type S, if i was him. I just dont buy the car. Let me tell you, i test drove 2023 MDX A-spec and Advance. Now remind you, i own a Mdx 2011, so a 2023 no matter what l, should be a better car. After test driving both, the dealer told me that all the interiors on both cars have a basic leather and that the suede / leather combination seats dint age well. He showed me a car with 3,000 miles and the leather was all wrinkled. The quality of their cars had gone done the toilet. Truly a sad moment as i bought my first acura Legend back in the day and that car was amazing in 1987. Sadly, no more Acura for me.
Watched this whole video. This is a trans cooler straight from Acura right, OEM? Does the dealer install this? To me the Type S should come with a trans cooler because those high trans temps will wear the trans real quick. Why even have a type S with no trqns cooler???
We just bought a type S. The transmission cooler is only needed and installed if you are adding a trailer hitch and planning on hauling up to the 5000 lbs limit. In fact you can get a hitch put on without wiring harness and without transmission cooler if you only want to use if for trailer hitch style bike rack or if you have a cargo tray (which we have) for holding ice coolers or luggage etc. Or you can add the wiring harness without the transmission cooler if you plan on pulling a small trailer less than 3500lbs (or maybe less, I can’t remember what limit the sales guy said).
@@danwoodward1527 Id like to add the trans cooler for lower trans temps period. less heat less trans wear especially when you get into a little spirited driving.
Sounds like we are missing a background story to this video. This car seems like it was bought yesterday, why would you need to install something that should most likely be a standard part in this trim level of MDX?

That’s what I was thinking. Why is God’s Green Earth Honda is selling a Type S without a transmission cooler as standard is beyond me. 🙄

I would send it back with all of that delivery damage.. but that just me
This is a smart move, knowing how terrible Honda's transmission history is.
