Something I noticed that you might have missed, is that Recall Kinsect doesn't actually need to evade an attack to heal. When you jump back, your bug ALWAYS does a delayed sweeping strike in front of your starting point. If it connects, it does one hit of damage , collects any relevant extracts, and you get the heal when it returns. This might require it to be on your arm though, as if you're using a powder type, it isn't there to do the sweep. UPDATE - Just checked in the training room, and if your kinsect is out, it will sweep around its CURRENT location. Same rules apply, you get the heal if the sweep hits the monster.
Rise was my first MH game since the very first game. Picked up the IG and was feeling a little overwhelmed by it even at low hunter ranks ... this guide is brilliant.
Backward slash can be used right after advancing slash if you passed the monster. I find this combo helps positioning and it feels somewhat smooth. Advancing slash - backward slash - tornado slash During the motion of backward slash, you can even use left stick to ‘adjust’ direction of tornado slash for even better hit!
Got to HR 321 with SnS, wanted to try a new weapon and start fresh. Tried so many weapons and thought IG would be something I hated... and I love it. This video made it all seem to simple and I am having a blast with this weapon now. Thanks!
Glad you're enjoying it! Its a really wonderful weapon. Not as OP as in older games, but its still a strong contender and Rise is definitely the game you want to be in the air, so its perfect imo haha :D
If you dont wanna waste your potions you can actually use the really kinsect any time for a heal, you dont even have to dodge an attack with it, as long as your near enough to it ofc
Great video. Concise and I learned a ton. I have a couple hundred hours in Rise and a couple thousand in World, but I've never put serious effort into glaive before. I'm going to give it a try now. Particularly, the tip that one kinsect can get two colors makes it much more appealing for starting out.

@@zhangbill1194 your second half will change here. Instead of L+A, it's X. You are trying to fit two more quick attacks so after Zr+A --> X --> A --> Zr+A. X is a quicker attack and you follow with Tornado slash.
I like it, subbed. I figured out most of this by just playing, but I do play almost exactly like this guide already anyways, so nice to see i'm doing somewhat well. The tip of only doing 2 aerials and then finishing is really good, I noticed I am missing the third aerial or diving wyvern a lot, so that will definitely help. I do admit i'll continue using leaping slash, since I am spacing out most monsters in a way that I'm too close for it and it would overshoot most times. Also I use Tetraseal slash, as I find it better if you're below a monster or want to hit the tail, the final hit of it hits really high and the others still do fine damage combined.
Tornado's end, you mention to recall over rolling ... but I kinda prefer to keep attacking with basic attack. Didn't know the areal dance got better as I continued it, thx. I might be able to pull it off on sleeping monsters if a small fry is close enough to charge up on.
If you are to use tetra seal switch skill with powder bug, be sure to ‘not’ use bug retrieval for recovery after the combo as it will prevent the powder bug from auto attacking the marked area. Instead, at the end of tetra seal animation, just press foward + X. Simple Light thrust attack works well for faster recovery when using tetra seal and your powder bug will continue to attack :)
Been loving the IG since 4U, but clearly I still have a long way to go in Rise, skill-wise. Great tutorial, will definitely put those new combos into practice! (and Diving Wyvern, once I unlock that eventually)

I think you (and a lot of other IG users as I see) are missing out the fact that Recall Kinsect not only serves as dodge and heal move, but also as aerial combo starter. You can press A or B while in air from RK to immediately return to the monster and start dealing damage with aerial attacks.
It was definitely fun to mess with at LR and I even started using it by turning around to approach shorter monsters since you could turn around and have way lower height then a traditional vault. For short monsters like Jaggis and all the Bear skeletons it was great for getting more dps in and spending less time in the air. its just a shame they put diving wyvern as a choice between the two as DW feels like half of the glaive’s dps and targeted damage. I can’t convince myself not to use it when the heal hitbox is unreliable and it has really unreliable, (none?), s on recall
@@kevin-bf4ww Yeah, I too would definitely rather switch out silkbind vault for RK+DW. But since I have a really bad accuracy with DW I use RK most of the time :D And switch it for DW for rampages, since RK is totally useless there. And DW's targeted damage is so valid point. I farmed Zinogre yesterday, testing both DW and RK on him, and although kill timers were nearly identical, to stop him from charging power without DW way harder even with direct hits with Tornado Slash in the head.
Going for that crit boost 3 with attack up 7 and sacrificing the 10% affinity will net you a higher dps. Using zinogre helm, rembora body, rath arms, anj waist, and raj pants. WEX 2 tali and 3 attack up decorations to hit the attack 7. Then you have attack 7, wex3, cb3 :)
So Recall Kinsect simply heals you if the kinsect hits any enemy monster, large or small, on its way back to you. Maybe it has i-frames at the startup too but the way you worded it was a bit misleading. You can have your kinsect attacking a marked spot while you are 3 jumps away for instance and if you use Kinsect Recall and your Kinsect hits the monster on its way back to you then you'll get a nice heal. I love this skill and think it's really underrated, but I love Diving Wyvern more haha.
Actually nintendo created the snes controller microsoft and sony used as inspiration for theirs, so microsoft has the a button on the wrong side and made things needlessly complicated for everyone
I do see RK for one purpose. I was recently trying out Hellfire Cloak, and for IG RK is the fastest counter kind of Wirebug movement. Sure your losing a lot of damage but mostly grounded won't miss it too much. Also RK puts you in the perfect altitude to aerial combo, so that's something.
Heyo! Thank you for that guide. I think I’m missing something out. You said to perform the bread and butter combo you start with a d-input+x followed by by two heavy attacks. On the right side the inputs are „d-input+x > x> a“. Is that correct? Because it seems like it must be „d-input+x > a> a“ Am I wrong? 17:13
Unfortunately not :( I didn't get a chance to do Hammer. There's quite a few weapons I didn't get to make tutorials for but I've never been too proficient in them so I didn't want to give advice with mistakes >< Hopefully for the next game, I can make some time to learn more weapons :)
Dual kinsects don't always grab orange. It grabs 2 based on the location it hits the monster, sometimes it's red and white. Assist kinsects also use the marker, it just isn't as effective as speed and powder kinsects. it is still useful if you need to grab a certain extract though.
There are multiple dual kinsects. At 3:00 I was specifically referring to the Foebeetle. I explain this in my Kinsect video but you buy one that always picks up a specific colour no matter what you hit. Next to "Dual color" It'll say either defense, speed, or attack. Those are you three colours and which ever it says, it means it'll pick up that colour every single time. The second colour is based on what you hit :)
man charged chain attack looked real cool but i can count maybe once it chopped a tail or got me a k.o. and dozens of times when the bug did a long animation attacking the air, or like a hundred times when it interrupts the initial juice gathering because the first gather causes the bug to be stuck in a long animation
You can also heal if your kensect is on the monster it will spin around and if it hits the monster it will heal you when it comes back so you can snipe heal
oh i missed that the duel color has a color givein 2 say that u don't need 2 collect that 1 and just figured it was the idea of it can collect twice and give any 2 buffs when u get it back
I have learned most things and know how to use it other then that one “sniper thing” were you aim and mark a monster I am wondering what that dose and all that Oh cool the marking thing is pointless to me since I adore the Assist Kinsect
You are aware the skills also have another part to them and that is raw vs elemental damage as you can see some skills do multiple hits wile others do more big damage this is clearly to address the issue in world of some weapons being locked to raw and others locked to elemental now you can change skills based on your weapon preference of raw vs elemental.
The A button is in the wrong spot in the XBOX controller. Nintendo uses it this way since the SNES. Microsoft should just made another button pattern. AND freaking sega with the dreamcast... they are the ones responsible for the confusion.
Thank you for this guide! I'm trying to learn how to play IG and what I struggle the most is staying in one place during aerial attacks. I'm all over the place, jumping from left to right, trying to hit the monster even tho sometimes I can't even see him. So the positioning is a pain in the arse for me. Any tips for that?
Camera control for sure. It's definitely a lot of pressing buttons and adjusting cam. I just started playing IG last week and the default cam speed and aiming speed is horrible esp with a fast monster moving. Increased it and my aim and control are so much better. So definitely try that if you haven't. Oh and increase the camera fov to 100 so the cam moves out more so you can see more. Goodluck!
I wish there was a way to remove the Helicopter move the Old 4th gen aerial 3 hit was way better all you needed was 2 hits and the monster was mount ready
Small detail about advancing slash. I believe it actually raises the aerial charge level by 1 as well. Normally, you're able to do 3 attacks in the air before having to do diving wyvern. But when I countered monsters using this attack, I was only allowed to do 2 instead of 3. I haven't tested the damage on the diving wyvern, but I thought I'd mention this since it really threw me off during some hunts.
I didn't know a duel color kinsect only allows for half buff time. I'm questioning whether I should even be using it now, getting two buffs at a time sounds great but _half_ up time might just be too much of a penalty to make sense.
My personal tips are: 1. Use Assist Kinsects, they get you juiced up the fastest and thus in the fight the fastest. You aren’t going to rely on them for damage anyway. 2. Stop using Nargacuga gear. Crits mean nothing if you don’t even hit hard. Instead, build for Crit Element. As you may have noticed, IG hits pretty quickly. Elemental weapons do way more damage if you land multiple hits. Do the math. 3. Despite being pretty fast weapons, IG hits VERY hard with the Dragoon Jump. Raw damage Glaives can exploit the SHIT out of that. I recommend the Diablos one, very high power. Don’t worry about the negative affinity, Weakness Exploit fixes that very nicely.
I find it hard most of times to get 3x aerial combo to monster before using diving wyvern. Usually monster just hits me off from its back with weird hitbox move, so i find myself from the ground too many times. Im a newbie to monster hunter. But thats like most annoying thing im struggling with.
If someone can answer, what's the point of using the bug retrieval to 'cancel' the end lag of a move, when the light stab attack 'cancels' it the same way but actually does damage? I get that recalling the kinsect after a combo to regain control is good while the monster is active, but when it's damage time it seems like a DPS loss to do this when you can literally just press x and get the same effect + damage.
what does Leftclick+rightclick do when u have all three colors? On MHW the insect turns like gold and spins around you but i have not found out what that does though?
Yea Rise doesn't have the drill attack here. With the newer kinsects (Sunbreak Kinsects), you can do certain skills that use up your extracts. You can see the new kinsect skills in this video --> ua-cam.com/video/tT9j6lIY32M/v-deo.html :) Hope that helps

But for some strange reason even so i read Insect Glaive is not a good beginner weapon. Well i click for me, Combo´s not so hard to pull off and super fun flying around. Cant find any gear progression guide, Like i found multi of gear progression guide for Gunlance. And the Gear guide i have found to now for Insect Glaive, Is more Meta build.. Is there a good combo to work on, If my goal is to Cut Tail ?? What Insect Glaive XXXX Damage type, Kinsect XXX Damage type. Have a easy time kill stuff and faster then did when using Gunlance, And i dont get hit all the time. ha ha I am sure it is because i am total newbie in Rise... Kindly.
the buttons dont seem to match up for my default controls. I have a PS controller and I use L2 and Triangle to launch, and tringle does light attacks it seems. This is becoming very hard to follow as I dont know the xbox controller scheme. Kind of wish this wasn't solely on XBox controls. Maybe say the light attack, or heavy attack buttons, or dodge button.
Apologies. I believe I designed this tutorial for the Nintendo Switch actually. That was before the game was released on any other platform. I literally didn't even know at the time that the game would ever come out on console cause they only said PC after an exclusive year on switch. Even if I had, I had no controller scheme to add to this tutorial. >

I feel like im getting slapped out of the sky almost every time I try to go aerial ... which is kind of a pain lmao. Mained the weapon for the entirety of world but had to switch to sns in rise. At least til I can get diving wyvern and mess around with it some more. (Gotta take it slow because work schedule's been fucking me)
Definitely take it slow man! More content will be released, but rushing it at the start will dry out pretty fast. SnS is fantastic looking in RISE. I have yet to try it! Hope your work schedule calms down soon bro. Everyone needs that down time.
In the previous games I could lead my kinsect to the right or left by moving the left stick, but in MH Rise it only flies right or left if I move the camera in this direction, is there a way to make it fly with the left stick in this game?
I find advancing slash keeps pushing me past enemies. I use advancing into tetraseal and don’t find myself missing very often, and I stagger/stun enemies consistently with that move.
I also use the assist kinsect to add damage to that attack. I use the rarity 4 blunt assist kinsect that always gets red so I can always jump into my aerial attacks even if I don’t have time to get the yellow or white.
I cant figure out how to do the diving attack. Im vaulting and pressing the combo after im launched and its not doing the dive attack. Any help or tips?
Have you unlocked it? It's a switch skill that needs to be unlocked by completing the 6 star quest of Hub. Once you have it unlocked, you can enable it in the switch skill menu shown in the video!
Yeahhh aerial hitboxes are really bad in Rise. You gotta be very careful with aerial Glaive. You'll get a feel for it after some practice but yea I feel you on that one.

The advancing rounds slash is locked behind having multiple insect glaives from different starting trees if I'm not mistaken. Basically try to get around 1 rarity 3 insect glaive from at least three of the following trees: the bone tree, the ore tree, kamura tree, or the altaroth tree
How are you standing in place using kinsect recall to animation cancel? When I use kinsect recall it propels me backwards, making it impossible to stay in one place.
Ah ya so I named it wrong in the video subtitles. Kinsect Recall is the regular cancel skill at 1:50. Recall Kinsect, is the silkbind skill at 12:06. My apologies!! The Kinsect Recall is the one you can stand still to cancel the animation.
Damn, I really want to get into IG but the aesthetic of the weapon is really turning me off :/ It's too large and clunky looking to match the swift strikes and elegant movement it performs. I mean, it's almost the size of a gunlance but it's matching the attack speed of dual blades. Really hope they come up with a sleek looking weapon skin for IG in the future
You can definitely add it! Drop some of the attack decos for it :) I'm working on a more comfy build. The build I have atm was a 100% crit build so not a lot of space for comfort - I'm fairly good at managing my kinsect so usually I notice when its about to run out and can pick up the buffs as they run out to reset.
WEX is the best if you can get it. It makes a lot of space since IG is a blade weapon. If you have low blue/all green sharpness, bludgeon can also be a good option.

@@kevin-bf4ww Yeah, I too would definitely rather switch out silkbind vault for RK+DW. But since I have a really bad accuracy with DW I use RK most of the time :D And switch it for DW for rampages, since RK is totally useless there.
And DW's targeted damage is so valid point. I farmed Zinogre yesterday, testing both DW and RK on him, and although kill timers were nearly identical, to stop him from charging power without DW way harder even with direct hits with Tornado Slash in the head.
Going for that crit boost 3 with attack up 7 and sacrificing the 10% affinity will net you a higher dps. Using zinogre helm, rembora body, rath arms, anj waist, and raj pants. WEX 2 tali and 3 attack up decorations to hit the attack 7. Then you have attack 7, wex3, cb3 :)
Using Nargs IG of course haha

So Recall Kinsect simply heals you if the kinsect hits any enemy monster, large or small, on its way back to you. Maybe it has i-frames at the startup too but the way you worded it was a bit misleading. You can have your kinsect attacking a marked spot while you are 3 jumps away for instance and if you use Kinsect Recall and your Kinsect hits the monster on its way back to you then you'll get a nice heal. I love this skill and think it's really underrated, but I love Diving Wyvern more haha.

I do see RK for one purpose. I was recently trying out Hellfire Cloak, and for IG RK is the fastest counter kind of Wirebug movement. Sure your losing a lot of damage but mostly grounded won't miss it too much. Also RK puts you in the perfect altitude to aerial combo, so that's something.

Heyo! Thank you for that guide. I think I’m missing something out. You said to perform the bread and butter combo you start with a d-input+x followed by by two heavy attacks. On the right side the inputs are „d-input+x > x> a“.

Unfortunately not :( I didn't get a chance to do Hammer. There's quite a few weapons I didn't get to make tutorials for but I've never been too proficient in them so I didn't want to give advice with mistakes >< Hopefully for the next game, I can make some time to learn more weapons :)
Dual kinsects don't always grab orange. It grabs 2 based on the location it hits the monster, sometimes it's red and white. Assist kinsects also use the marker, it just isn't as effective as speed and powder kinsects. it is still useful if you need to grab a certain extract though.
There are multiple dual kinsects. At 3:00 I was specifically referring to the Foebeetle. I explain this in my Kinsect video but you buy one that always picks up a specific colour no matter what you hit. Next to "Dual color" It'll say either defense, speed, or attack. Those are you three colours and which ever it says, it means it'll pick up that colour every single time. The second colour is based on what you hit :)
man charged chain attack looked real cool but i can count maybe once it chopped a tail or got me a k.o. and dozens of times when the bug did a long animation attacking the air, or like a hundred times when it interrupts the initial juice gathering because the first gather causes the bug to be stuck in a long animation
You can also heal if your kensect is on the monster it will spin around and if it hits the monster it will heal you when it comes back so you can snipe heal
oh i missed that the duel color has a color givein 2 say that u don't need 2 collect that 1 and just figured it was the idea of it can collect twice and give any 2 buffs when u get it back

Oh cool the marking thing is pointless to me since I adore the Assist Kinsect
You are aware the skills also have another part to them and that is raw vs elemental damage as you can see some skills do multiple hits wile others do more big damage this is clearly to address the issue in world of some weapons being locked to raw and others locked to elemental now you can change skills based on your weapon preference of raw vs elemental.

Nintendo uses it this way since the SNES.
Microsoft should just made another button pattern. AND freaking sega with the dreamcast... they are the ones responsible for the confusion.

Thank you for this guide! I'm trying to learn how to play IG and what I struggle the most is staying in one place during aerial attacks. I'm all over the place, jumping from left to right, trying to hit the monster even tho sometimes I can't even see him. So the positioning is a pain in the arse for me. Any tips for that?
Camera control for sure. It's definitely a lot of pressing buttons and adjusting cam. I just started playing IG last week and the default cam speed and aiming speed is horrible esp with a fast monster moving. Increased it and my aim and control are so much better. So definitely try that if you haven't. Oh and increase the camera fov to 100 so the cam moves out more so you can see more. Goodluck!

the Old 4th gen aerial 3 hit was way better all you needed was 2 hits and the monster was mount ready
Small detail about advancing slash. I believe it actually raises the aerial charge level by 1 as well.
Normally, you're able to do 3 attacks in the air before having to do diving wyvern. But when I countered monsters using this attack, I was only allowed to do 2 instead of 3.
I haven't tested the damage on the diving wyvern, but I thought I'd mention this since it really threw me off during some hunts.

You didn't stand still and press A. Tornado slash is still there if you have advancing slash, so there's no downsides to having it over tornado.

I didn't know a duel color kinsect only allows for half buff time. I'm questioning whether I should even be using it now, getting two buffs at a time sounds great but _half_ up time might just be too much of a penalty to make sense.
My personal tips are:
1. Use Assist Kinsects, they get you juiced up the fastest and thus in the fight the fastest. You aren’t going to rely on them for damage anyway.
2. Stop using Nargacuga gear. Crits mean nothing if you don’t even hit hard. Instead, build for Crit Element. As you may have noticed, IG hits pretty quickly. Elemental weapons do way more damage if you land multiple hits. Do the math.
3. Despite being pretty fast weapons, IG hits VERY hard with the Dragoon Jump. Raw damage Glaives can exploit the SHIT out of that. I recommend the Diablos one, very high power. Don’t worry about the negative affinity, Weakness Exploit fixes that very nicely.
I find it hard most of times to get 3x aerial combo to monster before using diving wyvern. Usually monster just hits me off from its back with weird hitbox move, so i find myself from the ground too many times. Im a newbie to monster hunter. But thats like most annoying thing im struggling with.
If someone can answer, what's the point of using the bug retrieval to 'cancel' the end lag of a move, when the light stab attack 'cancels' it the same way but actually does damage? I get that recalling the kinsect after a combo to regain control is good while the monster is active, but when it's damage time it seems like a DPS loss to do this when you can literally just press x and get the same effect + damage.

Yea Rise doesn't have the drill attack here. With the newer kinsects (Sunbreak Kinsects), you can do certain skills that use up your extracts. You can see the new kinsect skills in this video --> ua-cam.com/video/tT9j6lIY32M/v-deo.html :) Hope that helps

the buttons dont seem to match up for my default controls. I have a PS controller and I use L2 and Triangle to launch, and tringle does light attacks it seems. This is becoming very hard to follow as I dont know the xbox controller scheme. Kind of wish this wasn't solely on XBox controls. Maybe say the light attack, or heavy attack buttons, or dodge button.
Apologies. I believe I designed this tutorial for the Nintendo Switch actually. That was before the game was released on any other platform. I literally didn't even know at the time that the game would ever come out on console cause they only said PC after an exclusive year on switch. Even if I had, I had no controller scheme to add to this tutorial. >

I feel like im getting slapped out of the sky almost every time I try to go aerial ... which is kind of a pain lmao. Mained the weapon for the entirety of world but had to switch to sns in rise. At least til I can get diving wyvern and mess around with it some more. (Gotta take it slow because work schedule's been fucking me)
Definitely take it slow man! More content will be released, but rushing it at the start will dry out pretty fast. SnS is fantastic looking in RISE. I have yet to try it! Hope your work schedule calms down soon bro. Everyone needs that down time.

In the previous games I could lead my kinsect to the right or left by moving the left stick, but in MH Rise it only flies right or left if I move the camera in this direction, is there a way to make it fly with the left stick in this game?
I find advancing slash keeps pushing me past enemies. I use advancing into tetraseal and don’t find myself missing very often, and I stagger/stun enemies consistently with that move.
I also use the assist kinsect to add damage to that attack. I use the rarity 4 blunt assist kinsect that always gets red so I can always jump into my aerial attacks even if I don’t have time to get the yellow or white.
What happened to the old BnB combo from 4th gen? X,X,A-X,X,A-repeat
The motion value for the A finishers (Tornado / Tetraseal) is a lot better than 4th gen
I cant figure out how to do the diving attack. Im vaulting and pressing the combo after im launched and its not doing the dive attack. Any help or tips?
Have you unlocked it? It's a switch skill that needs to be unlocked by completing the 6 star quest of Hub. Once you have it unlocked, you can enable it in the switch skill menu shown in the video!

I love the glaive, but the hit boxes are weird in this game, and it seems like I'm constantly getting knocked out of the air.
Yeahhh aerial hitboxes are really bad in Rise. You gotta be very careful with aerial Glaive. You'll get a feel for it after some practice but yea I feel you on that one.

I need help, how to unlock the skill Advancing Round slash? I try to find in the hub and the village quest but unfortunately I can't find it 😢
The advancing rounds slash is locked behind having multiple insect glaives from different starting trees if I'm not mistaken. Basically try to get around 1 rarity 3 insect glaive from at least three of the following trees: the bone tree, the ore tree, kamura tree, or the altaroth tree

How are you standing in place using kinsect recall to animation cancel? When I use kinsect recall it propels me backwards, making it impossible to stay in one place.
Ah ya so I named it wrong in the video subtitles. Kinsect Recall is the regular cancel skill at 1:50.
Recall Kinsect, is the silkbind skill at 12:06.

Damn, I really want to get into IG but the aesthetic of the weapon is really turning me off :/ It's too large and clunky looking to match the swift strikes and elegant movement it performs. I mean, it's almost the size of a gunlance but it's matching the attack speed of dual blades. Really hope they come up with a sleek looking weapon skin for IG in the future

Why no power prolonger?
You can definitely add it! Drop some of the attack decos for it :) I'm working on a more comfy build. The build I have atm was a 100% crit build so not a lot of space for comfort - I'm fairly good at managing my kinsect so usually I notice when its about to run out and can pick up the buffs as they run out to reset.

What are ideal IG talismans?
WEX is the best if you can get it. It makes a lot of space since IG is a blade weapon. If you have low blue/all green sharpness, bludgeon can also be a good option.
