I like using the Dual Colour (Defence) Blunt Kinsect, that way I can smack a Kelbi, Slagtoth, Rhenoplos or the body/legs of a monster and boom, instant Earplugs!
omg kinsects were such a pain in the ass back then. You were told whether you were using blunt or severing depending on your glaive, the nectar was a gathering spree and a half, and you needed to level up a new kinsect with every new glaive and to max out the stats you had to do it in a certain way. If it weren't for gajin hunter I would not have figured it out. I'm just glad that we aren't watching another one of those videos because that would mean stupid amounts of grinding. literally insect glaives took more grinding than any other weapon cause of that. I do wish we could control the elemental affinity of our kinsects instead of being stuck with the weapons element though. That I miss. But it's not a big deal and realistically elemental damage is not the reason to use a kinsect in this game. it's a nice bonus but not required to be effective.
I usually recommend blunt kinsects. This does not change with the added elemental attacks of severing types. My reasoning is that severing damage is more for tail cutting than optimal damage and insect glaives are cutting weapons. you can cut the tail with your combos. exhausting the monster and stunning it gives you openings to go ham on the monster you wouldn't have without blunt damage and depending on the kinsect it works out to give you easier access to extracts that are harder to get on the monster. I will say the assist to get orange extract is probably the best kinsect in the game for damage as even knowing exactly where to hit the monster for the orange extract the head or the tail or the legs tend to get in the way of it and it's hard to mark or attack unless the monster is stunned. I'd go healing or assist (orange) blunt kinsect depending how scared of the monster I am. some monsters deal nasty damage and having quick and unlimited heals is absolutely something I'll sacrifice dps for. Anyone who thinks healing items are always enough has never had a high rank magnamalo that was fighting a flying creature cause both of them to crash into the player. That hurts. A lot. tbh I didn't mind magnamalo that much till that happened to me. I don't even think that happening is random. I think they target you while they are fighting because it happened to my friend once and me twice and my other friend once. it's almost hit me more than twice I just was moving. but yeah depending on the monster and it's damage I'll go heal or assist (orange). maybe powder. but almost always blunt. and if I'm going severing that tail is getting marked and I'm using powder or chain attack. powder seems safer for damage but slower. but again the glaive itself does severing damage so usually I just go blunt. it really comes down to playstyle. I've played insect glaive since mh4u. it's better in this game than ever and whatever you use as long as it fits your playstyle you will kick ass.
I really like how Rise has such a huge focus on, customize how you play. Between the switch skills, rampage skills, accessibility of armor skills, and the diversity of kinsect behaviors there's so many ways to play
Dude I'm so glad you are still making tutorials. I have been playing since the original game on PS2, but I never understood wtf was really going on until I found your videos while playing on 3DS lol. You have added so much to my enjoyment of the game. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!
Another great thing about the Assist(Defense) is that you can get white/orange before the starting roar. In Rise W/O gives you a bigger earplugs effect which is very handy.
Gaijin, you’ve done it again! I thought for sure I would know everything in this video, when I’d really only scratched the surface of what’s a much cooler system than I realized!
@gaijinhunter - I know you know, but you mentioned in the Powder section at 20:08 that there are 2 ways to mark a monster, and obviously there are 3, the third being "Hold ZR, hit ZL and shoot the pheromone." This pheromone shot can also detonate dust at range, which can be fun with Fiddlebrix. Also maybe note that the Valstrax meta hates healing dust.
Just wanted to tell you that I'm really thankful for your videos. I got into Monster Hunter thanks to a friend a few years back, but it's been largely a solitary experience for me, but a very good one, and your videos were and are are great asset to learn from. I hope you'll make detailed Rise tutorials for the other weapons as well. I've always been a GS main from day one and I doubt that will change, haha.
Also, don't forget that you can hold down ZR and press ZL to fire a marking shot, just like in MHW. For Normal/Assist/Speed type Kinsects, if you then launch the kinsect, it will automatically target the marked spot, allowing for quite a bit of concentrated damage at long range!
Thank you so much. I didn’t understand the kinsect thing and why it was so complex/confusing. I can see now the point and different styles you can build around. Thanks I’ll give IG another chance.
Nice video! I didnt know the rarity 1 kinsects had that kind of utility, thats a pretty cool find! Here are some extra tips from an IG main; - most IG mains know this but you can also mark from a distance using zr + zl - not many know but charge type kinsects will auto aim (to its best ability) to a marked area on the monster, so mark the head and dont worry about aiming
Gullshad is my favorite Kinsect in Rise. A charged attack often knocks flying monsters right out of the air, is great for breaking horns, and it has landed the killing blow on monsters more times than I can count.
Thanks sooo much for this! I've played IG for most of the game but I was having trouble understanding all of the information, I am used to the simpler ones from World/Iceborne. Very informative!! I'll definitely be swapping my Kinsects more. I did mainly use the Assist/Red/Blunt before!
Odd thing I found out as me and my friend tested a Insect Glaives blast powder build. That insect glaive blast powders damage is based on the attack and crit damage of who hits it with a weapon.. it is not effected by your kinsect or your own armors attack or crit boost. Note: the same happens for the healing powder . And the recovery up skill . It only is increased if there one who positive has the skill.
THANK YOUUU for this guide and the incredible amount of work you’ve put into it. Your MHX/GU kinsect guides were outstanding and really helped me figure out that system coming from the very different MHW kinsects. I’m sad there was no intro title card & fanfare though!!! This counts as tutorial!!! Hahah maybe you gotta use the Bunny Dango song as a intro for your tutorial-related vids like this. 😂
This video made me realise how little time I have spent with the insect glaive in Rise. I had no idea about any of this. Looking forward to playing around with these kinsects now. Excellent video Gaijin, very informative.
One of my first videos of yours was the 4u Kinsect guide. That was back when I was still new to the series as 4u was my first game. Even though I know virtually everything about the Kinsects, I’m still gonna watch this whole vid! Also I’ve noticed some people in here are using one specific type. Make sure to show your other cute bugs some love as well! I use a different Kinsect for each of my Insect Glaives and it really makes the weapon feel more varied!
Gaijin I love your videos men, I grew with them since MH4, is kinda sad that you don't upload as fast, but is still amazing to have your videos every once in a while
Great details thanks for the video! I am also so happy with how simplified the kinsect is compared to MHGU (my first MH game). That game with the level ups is just a pain and if you mess up it's an ever bigger mistake to fix.
Xbox release today, I am switching around beyond Swagaxe and glaive. Thanks for the guide clearing up the changes. This is so much better then it was in world. :D
I can't use the slow kinsects, so I've never been a carnage beetle user. coming from World I couldn't believe how slow some of these things were so I've always just been switching between the fastest ones, and had a blast using them! sometimes I'll switch off to another bug but I'll always come back to the fast bois
I like using Recall Kinsect while using Assist Dual Attack so i get a good escape option and it recovers the Kinsect's stamina so i can keep going with it
Thanks for the amazing job with the video. Btw, I preffer to use dual powder, with heal as a Air Glaive main. Heal powder helps my team so much, i saved a lot of people with it lol. I know that everyone just care abut numbers and damage, so i do, but i preffer to sacrifice a lil damage with my kinsect helping people including me, staying alive is more important.
My biggest qualm with this new kinsect system is that they put the increased triple up time on a kinsect that you'll want to continuously throw out anyway, which contradicts the goal of lower maintenance. It would be much more optimal to have triple up time on an assist type kinsect.
The entire point of *not* putting it on an Assist Kinsect is so that no one type of Kinsect gets too many perks. If you're using the charged attack for damage, it's better to go for one of the other Speed Kinsects anyways, meaning the Kinsects with the Triple Up Time bonus are specifically for minimum upkeep effort. The reason the Triple Up Time bonus is tied to Speed Kinsects is not for the charged attack, but for the high Kinsect speed stat, which helps with minimizing the effort of acquiring the Triple Up.
One question regarding the Rarity 1 Heal Kinsect... If it works with Heal Up, does it work with Wide Range? That would be ridiculously good for a support build
I haven't switched off my Monarch Alucanid since I picked it up, which I didn't expect because usually I'm all about those speed bugs, so maybe I'll need to experiment more. I'm not fond of the Powder types, though that might just be them acting differently than in World, where I would happily just set and forget with marking. It feels a lot more maintainence heavy to keep Powder up in this game.
That seems to be from the fact that the bugs are stronger in this game damage wise; I've been running slugger on IG since world but wow do they k.o. faster here. My Ladypavise deals enough stun that if she didn't tire after 10 seconds she'd be broken, and powders feel like they don't need as many to proc as in world.
All I know on kinsects is I generally use the dual color ones and just change what I use depending on the monster and how easy getting certain buffs are than others example being using speed for Narwa
20:37 If you mark with Tetraseal and bring an Assist type, recalling does NOT remove the mark. The only way to remove the mark is to sheathe your weapon. Not sure why this is the case.
Glad to know my favourite of the early game Kinsect types (Foebeetle) is still a viable Assist type despite its rarity Also - and apologies if I'm a tad asinine to say this - it's probably worth noting that Assist type Kinsects need to consume a portion of the Kinsect stamina gauge in order to... well, assist you in those certain attacks, so if you wanted to try pulling off some crazy *X combo finisher > ↓A* (tilting the L stick behind your avatar) *> Tornado/Tetraseal Slash > Diving Wyvern* combo, then you'll likely find your wrist-mounted buddy too tuckered to join in on the final attack or two Anyways, Happy Hunting
As much as I love the double extract kinsect, it sometimes feels kinda cheap to use. You can keep your triple buff no problem, which is nice for lazy hunts, but it's so. SLOW. And pretty boring.
But having assist active during triple up is the opposite of boring. It's like they looked at adept style glaive and said "how can we make this actually work?"
Thank you! This video is fantastic for me as a HR5 insect glaive main who's been exclusively using the dual color (red buff) kinsect ever since it unlocked.
@@gaijinhunter I see, nice of you, although it has the opposite effect on people that have been using the glaive for a bit, but I guess they probably already knew the damage the bug deals
@@Moro-Goro-300 Huh, that's strange, I've been using IG for quite a while now and I certainly didn't know the difference in damage for the individual kinsects, which is the reason why I'm watching this video. Showing the damage numbers of the kinsects in a video ABOUT KINSECTS sounds like a pretty good idea, but I guess seeing full tornado slash is clearly more important. 🙃
@@daskleineirrbis4952 I dont see what was wrong about what I said and yes there was also no need to justify, since I was just making an "imagine" joke, just feels weird to see the dodge cancel after 500h of recall kinsect cancel, I didnz hate in any way, I didnt state it to be important, I was just mentioning it
I'd like to add that powder Kinsects will re-incitiate their auto attack when the monster is remarked. Mostly useless but you might be able to get one extra hit out of them. Plus, with Tetraseal Slash you might be able to get even more hits from your Kinsect.
in all fairness the assist bug clearly.proved to be the best even in the vid you posted, but it's nice to know that severing gets elemental bonuses whereas blunt doesn't, i did not know that. also i feel like unless the powders attach to the monster or have passive effects while they longer they just aren't worth it and speed just doesn't do nearly as much damage as assist does. the issue with the IG is that the fastest recovery after a combo is to recall the Kinect. if you send it out for speed you have to recall it anyway otherwise it won't charge and for powder you can't recall or you have to reapply the marking. assist beetles just don't have that issue at all, they like being on your arm and it's super fast to triple up with them. kinda sad because i like the idea of powder Kinects and speed Kinects used to be king
Thanks, this is the info I needed. I was wondering why my bug wasn't auto attacking the mark like it did in world, now I see it's because I specifically need a powder type, this will make things awkward because I can't see myself ditching the speed
In the powder kinsect in PS5 if you pressed R2 triangle and circle at the same time the kinsect will collect all the dust to one big dust and explode them to make bigger boom
if you mark the monster one way or the other and you manuall press the kinsect attack button it will target the monster on that spot(or it at least tries to...)
On recall kinsect You know how when you use the skill it briefly sends out the bug infront of you. If it's already out it'll do the arc where it's at. Good for bug stamina or heals
I'd be more inclined to use bugs other than assist if they did more damage. Triple Up time hardly matters when assist make triple up so easy to get and do comparable damage on several attacks. The bonus heal is a nice option though. Foebeetle is probably my favourite mainly because it always has stamina to be added to your attacks thanks to it's 20 heal + it does decent damage, is blunt so you can spam it at a head for a KO once in a while AND it's free earplugs, movement, and knockback res in a single tap. Meaning any fight you start you can just nab red while the monster greets you and get right into the fight.
I use support and dust bugs often, using tetraseal slash with both of those is great the support attacks with you and tetraseal marks the monster for dust types, speed bugs are the weakest link sadly they do nothing with tetraseal and damage wise the other two can output more damage over time actually, they need a buff of some kind
After watching this, I suddenly miss The Ultimate Kinsects in GU (Elscarad and Arginesse) and super speed grancathar after feeding it all speed extracts. lol
So, I know severing kinsects take the weapon's element. But I never really found out if that's true for status as well? Would the extra hits of an assist type (when mounted on your arm) theoretically allow two chances of building status? (one for the glaive hit and one for the bug)
Sever Kinsects do not get your status ailment, only elemental power. So no, Assist Kinsects can’t double up on status dealing. They can double up on elemental damage, but not status.
Finally an ultimate guide. When I started learning IG before it’s so hard finding useful and accurate stuff. Anyway I just want to add/reiterate some things: 1. Heal stat is about stamina gain of Kinsects, not the amount of heal it gives you (either from Bonus or from Recall Kinsect). I see a lot of answers in some forums mistaking this one. 2. Triple Up Time + Power Prolonger 3 almost always means you only need to gather extracts once per area before monster moves to another area.. Include this in your set if you can’t be bothered collecting multiple times per area. 3. Assist Dual Color Defense is also my preferred over Dual Attack because it has the highest Heal stat among the Assist Kinsects. This means almost always your Kinsect will have enough stamina to attack with you. And also you can have earplugs very quickly.
I really miss how I could have a really fast bug with blast powder. My butterfly in world really put in the work and this wasp in rise really just doesn’t hit the same way.
Man I had been avoiding the lower rarity kinsects and been focused on trying to up my glaive kinsect levels. I suppose I should buy the rest of the kinsects. These looks neat. That said I do miss the GU kinsects to be honest. I used to farm jelly for a while in the trader so that wasn't particularly annoying to me. But what I missed the most was all the skills you could have on one kinsect. Like the 30% affinity with white extract and the spread atk/def buffs with the whole team from extract ones. It was nice to be able to customize the stats too and go purely for speed.
@ReivaOkami That sounds incredibly powerful, I love it. Might be too strong for the game rn though, with how easy it is to aim yourself in flight. But I really like the idea of being able to stun a monster midair, i imagine kind of like a hammer does.
I think the thing that messes me up most with kinsect is I'll mark a part, then my buffs wear off then I have to sheath my glaive to remove the mark otherwise getting buffs again is hard since the kinsect keep hitting the marked spot
A second polearm would be greatly appreciated. Unfortunately it seems they have relegated all other polearm type weapons to the status of alternate skins for longsword, greatsword, and sometimes lance and even hammer. Don’t get me wrong those weapons almost always look really cool, i just want another big stick class with long reach, maybe slower combos?
"So how did you kill this mountain-tall dragon monster?"
"I threw a bug at it, got high and beat it with a stick"
Lmaoooo bruhh 🤣

20:37 If you mark with Tetraseal and bring an Assist type, recalling does NOT remove the mark. The only way to remove the mark is to sheathe your weapon. Not sure why this is the case.
Glad to know my favourite of the early game Kinsect types (Foebeetle) is still a viable Assist type despite its rarity
Also - and apologies if I'm a tad asinine to say this - it's probably worth noting that Assist type Kinsects need to consume a portion of the Kinsect stamina gauge in order to... well, assist you in those certain attacks, so if you wanted to try pulling off some crazy *X combo finisher > ↓A* (tilting the L stick behind your avatar) *> Tornado/Tetraseal Slash > Diving Wyvern* combo, then you'll likely find your wrist-mounted buddy too tuckered to join in on the final attack or two
Anyways, Happy Hunting
I tried the weapon a little, now I wanna play with it again thanks to this video :D
As much as I love the double extract kinsect, it sometimes feels kinda cheap to use. You can keep your triple buff no problem, which is nice for lazy hunts, but it's so. SLOW.
And pretty boring.
At the end of the day dmg is king. So the fast red buff is perfect for everybody.
@@ironmaidenmetalgod I use Dual Color Defense all the time. I love it because I don't have to worry too much about getting those orange stocks.
But having assist active during triple up is the opposite of boring. It's like they looked at adept style glaive and said "how can we make this actually work?"
@@LeviathanLP That's just Valor glaive, lol
For a beginner like me it's perfect tbh. While yes it's cheap it helps soooooo much while I'm learning the right spots
Thank you for this! Great guide!
Thank you! This video is fantastic for me as a HR5 insect glaive main who's been exclusively using the dual color (red buff) kinsect ever since it unlocked.
I know im late but thank you so much, i couldn't find anyone to tell me the differences for each of them now i know.
16:20 imagine rolling to cancel out the tornado slash animation
I was keeping it visually simple so the viewer’s eyes are on the damage
@@gaijinhunter don't feel the need to justify yourself mate, do what you do
@@gaijinhunter I see, nice of you, although it has the opposite effect on people that have been using the glaive for a bit, but I guess they probably already knew the damage the bug deals
@@daskleineirrbis4952 I dont see what was wrong about what I said and yes there was also no need to justify, since I was just making an "imagine" joke, just feels weird to see the dodge cancel after 500h of recall kinsect cancel, I didnz hate in any way, I didnt state it to be important, I was just mentioning it
Chaotic Gore Magala set+ Heal set? O dear god this is beautiful
I'd like to add that powder Kinsects will re-incitiate their auto attack when the monster is remarked. Mostly useless but you might be able to get one extra hit out of them. Plus, with Tetraseal Slash you might be able to get even more hits from your Kinsect.
Thank you I didn't know half the shit And I've been playing since this weapon's introduction
Thanks GH now I can finalize my IG build I knew I was using my kinsect wrong
in all fairness the assist bug clearly.proved to be the best even in the vid you posted, but it's nice to know that severing gets elemental bonuses whereas blunt doesn't, i did not know that.
also i feel like unless the powders attach to the monster or have passive effects while they longer they just aren't worth it and speed just doesn't do nearly as much damage as assist does.
the issue with the IG is that the fastest recovery after a combo is to recall the Kinect. if you send it out for speed you have to recall it anyway otherwise it won't charge and for powder you can't recall or you have to reapply the marking. assist beetles just don't have that issue at all, they like being on your arm and it's super fast to triple up with them.
kinda sad because i like the idea of powder Kinects and speed Kinects used to be king
Thank you very much this is going to help me trying out the weapon
Damn! Insect Glaive in rise really shines in the insect itself!
Thanks, this is the info I needed. I was wondering why my bug wasn't auto attacking the mark like it did in world, now I see it's because I specifically need a powder type, this will make things awkward because I can't see myself ditching the speed
I need another one of these for the sunbreak kinsects!
Look, I just use the one that looks like a giant fluffy Moth..... because it's fracking adorable.
This video is amazing, ty!!!
On recall kinsect
You know how when you use the skill it briefly sends out the bug infront of you.
If it's already out it'll do the arc where it's at.
Good for bug stamina or heals
You teach me in MH4U,now you teach me again in Rise.. thanks senpai❤️
So there's no "wide-range" Kinsect, like the Elscarad from MHGU, anymore?? 😭
Not that I've seen no :(
I'd be more inclined to use bugs other than assist if they did more damage.
Wondered why the animation looked so familiar, then I watched Shrek.
Thank you so much, this helps a lot.
I’m so ready to start learning Insect Glaive
ultimate kinsect guide: pick the rarity 4 red one, guide over
is what I thought until 1:20
Gaijin: "So another reason why people don't use it with Tetraseal"
Me: * Uses Dual Color (Attack) with Tetraseal Slash *
I use support and dust bugs often, using tetraseal slash with both of those is great the support attacks with you and tetraseal marks the monster for dust types, speed bugs are the weakest link sadly they do nothing with tetraseal and damage wise the other two can output more damage over time actually, they need a buff of some kind
After watching this, I suddenly miss The Ultimate Kinsects in GU (Elscarad and Arginesse) and super speed grancathar after feeding it all speed extracts. lol
I've been waiting for this! Lol IG Tutorial soon? 🤞
@@wyycathewyvern2292 Bummer. I was hoping there'd be an idea for a good status glaive build. Thanks for clarifying.
Finally an ultimate guide. When I started learning IG before it’s so hard finding useful and accurate stuff.
Anyway I just want to add/reiterate some things:
I been using this weapon at the start
I didn't even knew this
I always thought kinsect just for look
I really miss how I could have a really fast bug with blast powder. My butterfly in world really put in the work and this wasp in rise really just doesn’t hit the same way.
Assist type will attack as long as you have red.
GU really gave us team buff potential.
I recently went back to GU to study IG there, and I'm totally addicted to that Affinity Up L bug.
I like Assist Kinsects just cause it means I can be in the Air More over doing the ground combos
Kinda sad Assist doesn't attack in midair...
@@LokiToxtrocity it is with diving wyvern finishers
@@The_Pikaboi yes it does, but would be nice if it attacked during the aerial combo.
@ReivaOkami That sounds incredibly powerful, I love it. Might be too strong for the game rn though, with how easy it is to aim yourself in flight. But I really like the idea of being able to stun a monster midair, i imagine kind of like a hammer does.
@@Caedynna You can do it, but it requires the Thunder beetle
I think the thing that messes me up most with kinsect is I'll mark a part, then my buffs wear off then I have to sheath my glaive to remove the mark otherwise getting buffs again is hard since the kinsect keep hitting the marked spot
If you use a Powder Kinsect, then it’ll automatically lose the mark when you recall it.
WAIT, SHEATHING REMOVES THE MARK???
@@ZenZenDaijoubu yes
I don't mark, I aim and fire.
I would love if they introduced a glaive type weapon without the forced setup. I have such an issue gathering buffs and keeping track of all of this.
Is the ranged pheromone shot removed from the game? Meaning Tetraseal and the attack with the back of the glaive are the only ways to apply the mark
no, the button input is just switched. You hold ZR to aim and press ZL to shoot
WE NEEDED THIS
I'm so happy you go over the fun stuff instead of just dmg dmg dmg. Like, not everyone is a speed runner and I'm glade you understand that.
now this is masterclass
