Apologies, one minor mistake regarding the Kinsects. The Dual Colour Attack/Speed types don't actually alter damage/speed, the name implies the primary extract it will always gather. Dual Colour Attack always grabs Red & Something, Dual Colour Speed always grabs White & something. Sorry for the mistake! 🙏
On this note, I think it's worth it for people to consider the rarity 2 Dual Color Defense kinsects. These will always give you orange, which as you said is really tough to get on some monsters, and the kinsect's stats are on par with the rarity 4 ones. So that could be super helpful in certain situations (although personally I prioritize red extract so strongly that I will always want to use Dual Color Attack 😅). Actually, it looks like across the board the rarity 2 kinsects' stats are on par with the rarity 4. So I don't think rarity 4 is strictly better, they just have different effects. Huh, I just found that out. Good to know. 🤔 Oh yeah, another good example! Say you really wanna lean into the paralysis powder. It could be worth using the rarity 2 kinsect that only has paralysis powder rather than the rarity 4 one that's split between paralysis and poison. Interesting...
I think the most notable use for Dual Color (Speed) and Dual Color (Defense) other than if that color is hard to get from a monster is that you can immediately get earplugs with the first recall, which is useful for ignoring the monster's roar when it first aggros you. I haven't tested this on all monsters to see if it depends on monster, but if you hit a part that gives the same color as the automatic color from your Kinsect, it looks like the second color is determined by the which effect the Kinsect has. Dual Color (Attack) and Dual Color (Speed) will grab red and white, and Dual Color (Defense) will grab white and orange. One other tip is that Kinsects with Dual Color (Attack) are easily the best Kinsects to use if you ever need to farm small monsters since most small monsters won't give red extract. (Also, it's worth noting that there are a few larger small monsters that give 2 colors of extract, one from the head and one from the rest of the body.)
Some other corrections, or added info I guess: Recall Kinsect has really generous I-Frames at it's startup, which is a big part of how to get the most out of it, pulling out of combos for free with a small heal. Kinsects have no element now, but severing kinsects inherit the element from your glaive, so you can still get elemental damage out of it (useful for multi-hitting speed type kinsects, and assist types with tetraseal slash) The Razor Sharp skill is a little lower in priority in this game because IG got 33% natural razor sharp, like dual blades. Razor Sharp is still nice, but not as important anymore. Additionally, you missed the Dodge Slash, which is pulling back on the stick and pressing A in a combo. It's not always that useful, but its good for micro-positioning during combos Thanks for the great guides!
Where each color of buff comes from depends on what the monster uses that body part for. Red Buff: Comes from body parts used as a primary attack. Rathalos shoots out fireballs from his mouth so red comes from his head. Goss Harog likes to attack you with it's ice covered arms so red will come from there. Etc... Etc... White Buff: Comes from body parts used as the primary method of locomotion. Most Flying Wyverns have white in their wings. Lagombi has it's white buff on it's belly. Orange Buff: Historically came from it's most defensive part but now that Green Extract doesn't exist anymore, it's basically anywhere else that doesn't give you red or white. This one is usually the one I have the most trouble hitting in the heat of combat. I know Arekkz mentioned this briefly in the video but once you spend some time with the IG you will find that there are plenty of monsters that don't follow what seems to be intuitive "red buff from face, white from legs/wings" Example: Goss Harog's white buff is in his face. I'd give more examples but between the fact that most of that knowledge is just muscle memory by this point and the fact I can't stick with a weapon longer than five minutes before the overwhelming need to switch weapons takes me on a fever dream of a journey through the smithy crafting lists I don't have too many individual examples available off the top of my head.
Thank you for this. I've been playing Glaive exclusively and I'm only HR 5 currently but I wasn't quite sure why sometimes colors came from weird places. This makes perfect sense to me and much easier to remember than on a monster by monster basis.
@@WilliamKoepke I mean it's not a *perfect* means to figure out where each buff comes from. @markos50100 does point out that the pheromone mark does glow with the color it gives. This is just the method I use to quickly figure out where the buffs come from.
Starting Rise, I remember having a hell of a time actually getting Red from Great Izuchi because of this. I'm used to target the head for Red (it's the red part for tons of monsters even considering the above) but G. Izuchi obviously uses its tail to attack, so the tail contains the red extract. Kind of a brain curler at first.
@@justsomejojo Yeah most monsters primarily bite or have some form of breath attack so I can see how one would think that. Hell head for red is still my first go to on any new monster.
One more thing to add about Kinsects is that while you can no longer manually apply elements onto your Kinsects, Sever-type Kinsects will now automatically take the element of your glaive. Blunt-type Kinsects, however, are always non-elemental.
@@Johnnyb3g00d Kinsects in previous games were unaffected by skills (Power Prolonger affects the buff duration, but that's you, not your Kinsect), so it's unlikely that any skills apply to them in Rise.
Looks like the kinsect damage scales with the weapons element damage value. Which also gets affected with rampage skills that increase element damage. Didnt look like armor skills that increase element increase dmg ie dragon attk 5
Well that's good to know! Cut-types were always kind of useless, because it wasn't that hard to manage a single KO over the course of a fight with a blunt, but you hardly needed the kinsects help to cut off the tail (and who actually worried about the usually small differences between cut and blunt vulnerability on a monster?). So do the Kinsects just now do wholly elemental damage (that can also cut tails)? Or do they get bonus damage on top of their base, and thus will always outdamage a blunt kinsect because they have that elemental advantage? Or is it simply that a percent of raw is turned into elemental, so it's situational?
@@Sines314 Unlike in World, where elemental Kinsects slightly reduce the physical damage of the Kinsect, in Rise, the element is added on top of its full physical damage. The base Kinsect attack has a motion value of 20 physical and 100 elemental. The physical attack stat used is the Kinsect's physical attack stat (e.g. 180 for a Lv. 7 Monarch Alucanid). The elemental attack stat used is the glaive's *base* elemental attack stat (Rampage skills count, but armor skills do not).
This video is INCREDIBLE. That's how a weapon tutorial should be made: HUD adjustments, tips & tricks, hidden mechanics, explanation clarity. Not just a mere listing of the moves. Great job there 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
@@alphalekter4474 I will , just sooner or later , it’s a game filled with excitement and hardships . I’m just preparing that whether I could 100% the game
An armor skill I'd definitely add to the list is power prolonger. It let's your extracts last longer so you can have more dps uptime and less gathering times. Super useful especially if you decide to not run a double buff kinsect.
Yeah, I was surprised not to see it in the recommended skills list. Curious if that was an oversight or intentional. If the latter, I'd want to know why.
@@HelloGeneral If you're using the double extract Kinsect it's so quick to get the triple buff back up it's not really worth the slots for PP. Probably worthwhile for dust or speed builds though.
Alright, time for some math because I feel like doing this. The triple buff lasts 90 seconds. Let's assume the triple buff takes 10 seconds to reapply, which seems pretty reasonable. This means that 10% of your time is spent buffing. This is completely ignoring that fact that you can gather extracts while you don't have an opening for attacks. Even if Buff Extender made these buffs last forever, it would only be a 10% damage increase, and that's only if the monster never attacked. Even in this utterly ridiculous setup, with everything possible and then some in favour of Buff Extender, it's still almost useless.
@@PlazDreamweaver It's also a reason why tornado slash is likely much better than tetraseal slash. After the backward flip slash, you can go straight into tornado slash to get back in for tons of damage.
Lmao they also forgot that move in the world tutorial years back xD they do a fantastic job of really explaining everything and going over almost every possibility tho so you cant blame them too much
I never set foot on the “Dump IG” train XD Three things to add: 1- When you cling to a wall, if you press R, you sheath your weapon and proceed to wall run. 2- You can stick to the wall indefinitely, it both silkbinds and stamina recover while on the wall. 3-You can chain aerial B to silk bind vault and travel further.
An important detail/quirk that bears mentioning: Dual color Kinsects also widen the areas in which you can get certain extracts, because (by subtype) they always gather two types. If you find a monster is difficult to get that Orange or White buff from, chances are the other one is much easier to get. A dual color Kinsect will give you both from either spot, meaning that ~80% of most monsters gives you speed, flinch resist and earplugs in one go. It also means that, when you grab that red buff, you will get that flinch resistance at the same time from the bonus orange if you don't already have it, which is nice. Personally, I find my (slightly unorthodox) opening preference is the white/orange dual color extract from point blank range. When most monsters are engaged initially they'll roar. If you have earplugs for that after a quick extract->recall from up close, you can get a free red extract grab while they're sitting still and making useless noise. Do that, and you have the triple buff in the first ~5 seconds of the fight to start strong, and even if you somehow miss the free red grab you've got a nice long buff timer to try for red again. I highly recommend trying this out, it's very beginner-friendly and a strong opener.
@@chaoticnote insect glaive in mhw did indeed provide a earplug buff just not 5 levels of it. with orange and white you'd have 3 points of earplugs so if you wanted to have it maxed out you'd need to take 2 points of ear plugs with you.
Don't forget guys, Recall Kinsect silkbind move also grants Invincibility frames during the backflip; so, in addition to the heal, you are also able to get off of/out of the way of Attacks that you wouldn't normally be able to avoid, while still healing and fully replenishing your kinsect's stamina gauge. The dive is flashy and can do big numbers, but powder and speed type players can really take advantage of Recall Kinsect.
Thanks for this, i'm just getting into IG and i'm running a blast glaive with the powder type bilbotrix, i think rather than going for the big dives i'll want to refresh the kinsect for more powder bombs.
And while most weapons had their strongest hitting silkbinds like hammer or HH, IG had the recall kinsect as ZR + A which is both useless and bad looking (a demo should attract players...)
@@Anducar not only that they did them wrong lol. The vault has an attack element to it which wasn't shown. And the recall kinsect wasn't even shown dodging anything.
@@TheMoonman4 there is no way to choose it on the dive whatsoever, and it would have helped against magnamalo with iron weapons and 15 mins on the clock
Something I didn't see mentioned; back + A can position you a step back so tornado slash doesn't pit you past the monster tail etc. I combo x,x, back A, a,a on tails since you can sometime inch too much forward and miss the big hit. Edit: in my haste i didn't take the time to say thanks to Arreks... Thank you for all the time you put into these videos and all the testing that you do. I watch every weapon guide you put out even if it's something I'm not interested in learning.
I want to point out a minor correction. The normal type kinsects are a bit more special than you let on. They have a bonus heal effect, that causes you to heal a bit of HP any time you gather *any* essence.
Huh. And here I thought he had always been waiting for an All-out Attack. Maybe that's why he kept repeating it; he was just always confusing enemy beatdowns for a specific UA-cam video.
Abit of correction on the assist type. The dual color attack/speed does not make the kinsect stronger/faster. It just means that you always get that essence when the kinsect hits an enemy.
Well it does sort of mean the kinsect speed and attack. the attack dual colour one has higher attack damage and the speed dual colour one travels faster
this is the first insect glaive tutorial Ive seen that even mentions the earplugs from white and orange extract, let alone other important things such as the aerial ramp-up. pretty good overal, nice.
one other thing, and I cannot stress this enough: CONSITUTION. if you're running an aerial focused build, just max it out if you can. it will give you so much more breathing room in the air. you can substitute it for dash juice or amplify in the same way. on a similar note, having at least one level of Latent Power also helps as it gives you a stamina boost too. very good to have around as it tends to trigger just before your dash juice runs out. and also Flinch Free. Just grab 1 level of Flinch Free. just do it, you'll appreciate it.
Oh, one thing I noticed you didn't mention. After using Tornado Slash, you can immediately use a Strong Thrust to simultaneously cancel the recovery animation and go back into a combo. You can then continue your X combo or perform the Backflip with Back+A & then follow up with another Tornado Slash. Really fun.
Given that Tornado Slash throws you so far forward I find it better to either use ZR + X or ZR + A to cancel your animation. It's quick and you can freely move during the animation so you can completely turn around and face the monster to continue thrashing. Plus, your bug gets to join in on the fun (assuming you're not using an assisting kinsect but you can still use ZR + A even when the kinsect is on your arm).
@@argentum1738 on a downed monster, you can often position yourself so that tornado slash does not move you at all, and as long as poke would still hit the monster, the backflip+tornado generally leaves you in about the same position you started.
Note: since you can auto sheath a weapon by running, an easy and fast way to gather kinsects (especially for triple up) is by tapping ZR as you run. The Kinsect will fly out a short distance and automatically return and you'll be able to quickly run around to the next part you need to harvest from
The one thing I was a bit disappointed by is that the glaive tail monster Magnamalo's IG doesn't just mount its tail on a pole. Considering the amount of almost carts that tail stab causes me, I'd have loved that. On the other hand, the Tigrex glaive looks amazing.
I watched the gunlance video that Arekkz recommended yesterday and it was almost an hour long haha. Very informative and helped me decide to give the gunlance a try.
Tried Insect Glaive again as my secondary after struggling with the Helm Breaker playstyle. The Diving Wyvern completed this weapon. It's basically its own Helm Breaker. Before this game, IG felt fun but always lacked that "oomph". That switch skill is the best thing they added for IG in Rise and I hope they keep it for future games.
We need more of these! I wouldn't have made it to endgame Iceborne without your weapon workshops for world, and now that we're getting rise on PC, I really hope to get the rest of the weapons as soon as possible! Keep up the amazing work!
Thank you for this!! I thought I was doing pretty good with this weapon, but now I realize that there's sooo much more to it. This game is a masterpiece.
30:20 While not an auto-include, Power Prolonger can also be a nice luxury skill. It lets you keep your buffs longer, so if you're not a fan of micro-managing your extracts, definitely consider it! Great video Arekkz!
There's a mistake in the description of the Dual Color Kinsect Bonus. There are three different Dual Color effects: Attack (Monarch Alucanid and Carnage Beetle), Speed (Empresswing and Bonnetfille), and Defense (Alucanid and Foebeetle). The difference between them is the guaranteed color they bring back. Attack will always bring back a red extract. Speed will always bring back a white extract. Defense will always bring back an orange extract.
they also have better stat on the assist type. attack assist actually have better power than other bugs with same stat/rarity. same with speed and defense assist, but defense increase the healing.
Great tutorial, I never knew about the diving wyvern buff! However, no mention of Power Prolonger? I find it immensely helpful to not have to constantly gather extracts.
As a glaive user, this guide is fantastic. Two things I feel are worth mentioning; holding back when pressing A will do a cool backflip attack, which is great for repositioning, but you can follow it up with a Tornado Slash to get back in and deal some damage. He also mentioned that Forward Roundslash puts you in the air and counts as the first tier for damage but that also means you can only do two follow up attacks instead of three.
This may be weird but I always wait for Arekkz weapon tutorials before I try any new weapon. I cant watch anyone else video - anyways cant wait for the Switch Axe tutorial :D
As a glaive main (but still a noob at MH, even though I've been playing since MH4U), I think it's better to explain the kinsect essences differently. Rather than "red=face, orange=chest/back, white=arms/legs." I've always found that a better way to think of it is "red=aggressive body parts, orange=core body parts, white=movement body parts." For example, if a monster mainly uses their tail to attack, their tail will give red essence, but if they mainly use it for mobility, it'll give white. This is anecdotal, and I can't remember which monster it was, but I swear there was on monster in Rise whose face gave orange, and I got really frustrated having to hit the front paws just to get my red juice up for my triple.
rise is my first monster hunter game, thank you for this!! all of the aspects of the weapon were stated in a way that was easily understandable! also super cool title cards for each section of the video!
Green extract and healing bugs were pretty strong in IB. I always used a healing bug in random multiplayer Fatalis hunt, so there would always be little potion clouds all over the arena that anybody could use in a pinch or pick up as they’re attacking.
Something missed in the video is Kinsect element. If your glaive has elemental damage, all Severing Kinsects also get that element bonus. However, Blunt Kinsects will never get any elemental damage. So if you're using an elemental glaive, you will want a Severing Kinsect for more damage.
@@karuflan9215 This does not apply to status. For raw/status, either damage type will work. It's just if the glaive has any of the five elements where a Severing Kinsect will do more damage because of the element.
30:09 The fact that you made the armor skills list disappear when your hunter got hit made me smile, that was a nice detail in your video ;) Thanks for your guide, I needed it to understand how kinsects work in this game. It is nice to see that IG is even more enjoyable than in MHW.
I've been looking at the higher tier Kinsects, but I always fall back to the two default ones, because free healing on every single essence gathering cycle is just too good to pass up on until I can effortlessly read the monsters' movements and predict the incoming attacks properly.
This was a very in-depth tutorial, best one I've seen so far! I like that it seemed like you were really taking your time and making sure you covered everything in a well-structured and well-paced manner. I'm definitely sending this to my friends. 👌 The only thing I noticed that you didn't mention is follow-ups after Leaping Slash and Advancing Roundslash, both of which I think have noteworthy options. For example, being able to go straight into a Tornado/Tetraseal Slash after a Leaping Slash is real strong. And after doing an Advancing Roundslash, you can turn in ANY direction and start attacking with X, which is super helpful.
I’m HR7, hours of gameplay with the glaive and this video has just made me change my whole play style. This is why I love Monster Hunter. Thanks Arekkz 🙌
some mistakes: the best (raw) dps combo is forward +X ->A -> A (strong thrust, strong wide sweep, tornado slash) The kinsect recall is only good if you want to cancel an animation at the end without rolling. some notes: as tornado slash propels you forward a lot, doing a forward + x -> backwards+A -> A will do a double thrust, backflip dodge slash to reposition and then a tornado slash you can aim 30°, really good if you want to precisely hit the head, especially with assist kinsect which hits on the backward+A dodge slash. forward roundslash (the new switch skill): when it launches you up in the air you are in stage 1 aerial charge; meaning you can only laucnh yourself up in the air twice instead of three times, but also means you only need to hit two aerial pogo sticks before you can do a double damage diving wyvern (which is theoretically the highest dps you can achieve with IG)
Thanks for the video! I didn't know about the charging aerial diving wyvern! That's so cool! I've been playing with the pukei pukei glaive running a blunt build with the dual color attack severing kinsect. A few things that weren't mentioned that I wanted to share was that an orange and red buff actually give a defense and 10% affinity buff. The affinity does go away if you get the white buff, or the timers run out. In addition, Uroktors actually can give all 3 buffs. I'm not sure about any others, but I thought I'd drop a few tid bits I've gathered using the glaive! Loved it in world and I love it in rise! Hope this helps! Thanks again for a spectacular video!
As a minor note to add from an insect glaive main; the kinsect recall silkbind move has some obscene i-frames... im talking dodging magnamalo explosions by just pressing zr +A not to mention it can be used to animation cancel. It's a good safety option if you're learning the glaive, but yeah diving wyvern damage is too juicy to pass up.. its the new airborne greatsword!
Thank you. I've been a LS main since mh4u and picked up IG in rise as a secondary weapon.. this cleared some confusion I had with certain mechanics and damage outputs I've been experiencing while learning the IG... thanks arrekz!!!
Firstly, This man likes Blunts confirmed. Get this man what he likes. In more seriousness. Getting back into Insect Glaive after not playing since world and also being extremely rusty and learning on PC now, this video has been very helpful. Have actually watched it a few times just to make sure the information bleeds in while I play. 10/10 as are your other videos. Keep it up my guy
My bf got me a switch and bought MH Rise as our first game, he's been really busy and couldn't teach or play with me. Glad these guides are quiet easy for brick brain like me to follow, though I will still need to watch it again from time to time.
I wanna add that some of the lower rarity Kinsects are actually pretty nice as well! The Dual Color (Defense) is a favorite of mine because orange is generally harder to grab in my experience, and by opening up with grabbing white and orange you can have earplugs before the monster’s first roar, and use that time to then get the red extract and have the triple color by the time the monster finishes roaring. And also severing kinsects are elemental based on your weapon element, while blunt ones are non-elemental
What I like about the insect glaive the most is that it's a continuous DPS weapon. Even if the damage is minimal the attack never technically ends unless you either want it to end or the monster hits you. Then there's the evasion aspect of it. I remember when I fought the tigrex with this thing and we were all over the place it was a contest to see who out maneuver who. But if you're fighting a flying wyvern with this thing. Develop a keen eye bc it's very easy to lose your place if you're not paying attention. I know I'm really late to the party but I'm planning on getting a switch once I have enough money for it. And mhR will be my first purchase. So it's good to familiarize myself with my main weapon from MHW.
Great video, thanks for all the hard work you put into these, I am now converted from SA main to an aerial assassin and having so much fun learning this weapon, love the fact you have so much customisation with kinsects too.
The demo did this weapon dirty, it’s currently in my Top 5 for most fun to play weapons in Rise. Assist kinsect, wyvern dive, and that advancing counter are crazy fun.
Nice tutorial vid, glad to see that you and I have the same choice for the switch skills and insect😂😂. Just a quick tip, if you can fit Power Prolonger into the build, you definitely should because that extends the harvest up time. Really good QoL
The day after my bday but close enough. Thanks guys! I'm new to the series and the GI has been an instant fav of mine. Your guides and tips have been really helpful.
When you attach the IG to the wall you don't lose the aerial charges you've got, your stamina recovers while you're there and it's also a safe way to evade some attacks while maitaining your aerial dmg charge instead of just falling flat on the ground. Oh, and I think it's good to say that the max Kinsect Level right now is lvl 8, if you use the Rampage Skill Boost Kinsect Level on a Glaive that already have lvl 8 Kinsect it will stay the same.
@@Johnnyb3g00d who cares about meta 'nyway :P I just wanna know that some randoms on a game will look at me beating on a monster with Spider Man moves and think "Damn I wanna play IG now"
Just a note, something to add to what Arrekz said about the dual color type kinsect. The type also denotes what type of extract it will always grab, regardless of the part of the monster you hit. I.E: attack type will always grab a red extract, even if you hit the area that gives you white, speed type will always give white extract, and defense will always give orange extract. Otherwise this was a great vid, even as an insect glaive main I still learned a few things.
One small thing..The silkbind vault can be used to extend the amount of times you can evade or time you spend in the stay in the air. Meaning you can do something like evade, attack, attack, evade, silkbind vault, evade, attack. Great for repositioning or covering large distances if the monster moves
Someone mentioned it, but you didn't mention the back + A move. Which goes into my personal favorite combo when using an assist kinsect of x -> x -> back + a -> a. Those last two use the kinsect to also attack with a backflip slash, then tornado slash. Thank you for the video though! I definitely learned some stuff!
Great video and thank you for the info. I was a glave runner on Mh world and feel like glave on rise has some new features that I needed to grasp. Your video definitely helped.
I’ve never played a Monster Hunter game before besides maybe an hour or two on MHW, which I could never get into. Went on a UA-cam dive after playing the Rise demo and ended up watching Arekkz a lot, and decided to give MHW another go. I’m not good at the game at all, and it’s very overwhelming - but I’m absolutely addicted! I’ve been using a Switch Axe & a Bow but I think I’m going to have to revisit the IG after this...downloading Rise as I type!
When I unlocked the Magia Pitareen in low rank, you can bet I instantly attached a powder kinsect. Paralysis and blast damage for days, all while staying in the air (so sharpness is less important)
Oh yeah, another good example!
Well stop yelling at you any second now.
Some other corrections, or added info I guess:

The Razor Sharp skill is a little lower in priority in this game because IG got 33% natural razor sharp, like dual blades. Razor Sharp is still nice, but not as important anymore.
Additionally, you missed the Dodge Slash, which is pulling back on the stick and pressing A in a combo. It's not always that useful, but its good for micro-positioning during combos
Thanks for the great guides!
Thanks for posting the correction. I was going to mention this myself because a lot of people seem to miss this detail, but you beat me to it!

No.
Etc... Etc...

The easiest way to check what extract you'll get is to just hit the mark on the monster. It glows in the color it will give.
Also, kinsects can't crit, so critical element won't apply to them. It's likely that stamina thief and slugger also do not apply to blunt kinsects.

Why is magnamalo's theme just so damn good at making this weapon workshop so damn epic.
Because Magnamalo's theme is just damn good and epic.
Gathering extracts is so fast that I doubt it would be worth it.
Okay, a 10% buff is *passable*. However, this 10% is entirely unrealistic and would probably be far, far less.
lol 2-3 months ago eveyone was shitting on IG but now its one of the coolest, most buffed weapons in the game.
You forgot about the move where you move the left stick back and press a to do a backflip slash
@@PlazDreamweaver It's also a reason why tornado slash is likely much better than tetraseal slash. After the backward flip slash, you can go straight into tornado slash to get back in for tons of damage.
Yeah with assist kinsect, it’s an awesome hit-and-run move
Yeah I find my main ground combo is Advancing Roundslash -> Backflip slash -> Tornado Slash.
I was worried they didn't keep this!
Lmao they also forgot that move in the world tutorial years back xD they do a fantastic job of really explaining everything and going over almost every possibility tho so you cant blame them too much
I never set foot on the “Dump IG” train XD
Three things to add:
1- When you cling to a wall, if you press R, you sheath your weapon and proceed to wall run.
2- You can stick to the wall indefinitely, it both silkbinds and stamina recover while on the wall.
3-You can chain aerial B to silk bind vault and travel further.
you can recharge wirebugs on the wall? seems like i may have to try the weapon just to explore maps faster :D
@@litapd311 It's my dedicated map exploring weapon =D
I did not know about that first one. That sounds incredibly useful.
An important detail/quirk that bears mentioning:
Dual color Kinsects also widen the areas in which you can get certain extracts, because (by subtype) they always gather two types.
Also Speed Kinsects being a lil bit faster helps, the Attack Type is just so damn slow
This really is a "Started from the bottom now we here" moment. We got Earplugs back and a million other buffs.
We had earplugs in world
@@djwolf5395 clarification: Insect Glaives Kinsect Essences in MHW did not provide earplug buff.
@@chaoticnote insect glaive in mhw did indeed provide a earplug buff just not 5 levels of it. with orange and white you'd have 3 points of earplugs so if you wanted to have it maxed out you'd need to take 2 points of ear plugs with you.
Lol insect glaive never started from the bottom... IG was crazy when it was introduced in mh4u 😅
@@djwolf5395 pretty sure you needed 3 points in flinch free to have those effects in world so he's correct.
The sheer amount of things we didn't see in the demo or weapon showcase is astounding.

@@rossjs1980 for the attack it does do more damage, but the speed ones give morr healing, not speed

this is the first insect glaive tutorial Ive seen that even mentions the earplugs from white and orange extract, let alone other important things such as the aerial ramp-up. pretty good overal, nice.
one other thing, and I cannot stress this enough: CONSITUTION. if you're running an aerial focused build, just max it out if you can. it will give you so much more breathing room in the air. you can substitute it for dash juice or amplify in the same way.
on a similar note, having at least one level of Latent Power also helps as it gives you a stamina boost too. very good to have around as it tends to trigger just before your dash juice runs out.
and also Flinch Free.
That Rathian at the end is freaking enormous.
Note: since you can auto sheath a weapon by running, an easy and fast way to gather kinsects (especially for triple up) is by tapping ZR as you run. The Kinsect will fly out a short distance and automatically return and you'll be able to quickly run around to the next part you need to harvest from
I can barely play IG but I gotta admit, IG got some of the coolest weapon designs this time around.
That big paint brush is looking nice!
Yes you can give it another shot! So fun once you get the glaive dancing down to phase 3
Somnacanth IG looks amazing!

Heck yeah! This is my first game and I’ve been loving the Insect Glaive! Thanks for making this guide!
My old love. Over 500 hunts in World and around 300 in Iceborne. Only 3 in Rise so far. Granted I only started using it today.^^
I remember seeing another video mention this too. I guess it's just some misinformation going around.
they also have better stat on the assist type. attack assist actually have better power than other bugs with same stat/rarity. same with speed and defense assist, but defense increase the healing.
There doesn't seem to be a defense dual Beetle at rarity 4 unless i somehow didn't unlock something?

First monster hunter game and I choose Insect glaive and have been experimenting alot so this video is great
As a glaive user, this guide is fantastic.
The content and quality has only been getting better! Great stuff Arekkz!
This was a super helpful summary of the insect glaive. Thanks for the hard work/research making it!
As an IG main this made my day (I’m also really enjoying all the other weapons, just took the Bow out for a spin and I think I found my alt main)
I wish you had finished the series! Your guides are fantastic, clear and easy to follow, yet packed with information!
As a glaive main (but still a noob at MH, even though I've been playing since MH4U), I think it's better to explain the kinsect essences differently. Rather than "red=face, orange=chest/back, white=arms/legs." I've always found that a better way to think of it is "red=aggressive body parts, orange=core body parts, white=movement body parts."
For example, if a monster mainly uses their tail to attack, their tail will give red essence, but if they mainly use it for mobility, it'll give white.
It's hard to put this weapon down. Flying through the air and landing a crispy Diving Wyvern just never gets old.
Arekkz: "The green extract is a bit of a waste of time".
Me: *sobs while killing Fatalis and healing while not using a single potion*

Hunting Horn has it beat on heals, get it ;)
Green extract and healing bugs were pretty strong in IB. I always used a healing bug in random multiplayer Fatalis hunt, so there would always be little potion clouds all over the arena that anybody could use in a pinch or pick up as they’re attacking.
I knew I couldn't be the only one.
Yup when fighting ukanlos my role was the helaer of the team since the tail is a huge target lol
Something missed in the video is Kinsect element. If your glaive has elemental damage, all Severing Kinsects also get that element bonus. However, Blunt Kinsects will never get any elemental damage. So if you're using an elemental glaive, you will want a Severing Kinsect for more damage.
Makes sense, kinda how the shield bashes in SnS don't make elemental damage.
Does it apply to the status moves too, tho?
@@karuflan9215 This does not apply to status. For raw/status, either damage type will work. It's just if the glaive has any of the five elements where a Severing Kinsect will do more damage because of the element.
@@OnePunkArmy Gotcha, i'll be sure to remember that. Tysm!
Excellent tutorial. The IG is definitely a bit overwhelming at first, so this is much appreciated.

2:54 look at that zeny count, that's a mood right there
When you get to HR and starts crafting different weapons. From the 200 zenies tier 1 weapon to the 24.000 zenies tier 5 >
30:09 The fact that you made the armor skills list disappear when your hunter got hit made me smile, that was a nice detail in your video ;)
Thanks for your guide, I needed it to understand how kinsects work in this game.
I'm only 10 minutes in, but even as someone who's solod to rank 7 with the glaive, this has actually had so much info I didn't know in it. Much love
This was a very in-depth tutorial, best one I've seen so far! I like that it seemed like you were really taking your time and making sure you covered everything in a well-structured and well-paced manner. I'm definitely sending this to my friends. 👌
The only thing I noticed that you didn't mention is follow-ups after Leaping Slash and Advancing Roundslash, both of which I think have noteworthy options.
For example, being able to go straight into a Tornado/Tetraseal Slash after a Leaping Slash is real strong. And after doing an Advancing Roundslash, you can turn in ANY direction and start attacking with X, which is super helpful.
The aerial combo charges ‘damage increase” are a game changer. Thanks for this information.
You and everyone else who works on these are awesome. Thank you for making these!
I’m HR7, hours of gameplay with the glaive and this video has just made me change my whole play style. This is why I love Monster Hunter. Thanks Arekkz 🙌
Insect Glaive is my fav weapon in MH. Thanks for coming out with this weapon tutorial video !!
some mistakes: the best (raw) dps combo is forward +X ->A -> A (strong thrust, strong wide sweep, tornado slash)
The kinsect recall is only good if you want to cancel an animation at the end without rolling.
some notes: as tornado slash propels you forward a lot, doing a forward + x -> backwards+A -> A will do a double thrust, backflip dodge slash to reposition and then a tornado slash you can aim 30°, really good if you want to precisely hit the head, especially with assist kinsect which hits on the backward+A dodge slash.
forward roundslash (the new switch skill): when it launches you up in the air you are in stage 1 aerial charge; meaning you can only laucnh yourself up in the air twice instead of three times, but also means you only need to hit two aerial pogo sticks before you can do a double damage diving wyvern (which is theoretically the highest dps you can achieve with IG)
I watch every single one of these knowing full well I wont touch any other weapon besides GS. Your videos are just that good

I just picked up IG again for the first time in a loooong while and had no idea what I was doing and now this video dropped lol thanks Arekkz

I've always found insect glaive kind of inscrutable so I'm excited to actually try to understand it, haha, thanks Arekkz!

Interestingly, you can also run after attaching, triggering the attack boost from wall runner. Not viable or meta, just interesting.

Monster Hunter and weed are all you need
One small thing..The silkbind vault can be used to extend the amount of times you can evade or time you spend in the stay in the air. Meaning you can do something like evade, attack, attack, evade, silkbind vault, evade, attack. Great for repositioning or covering large distances if the monster moves
This video is freaking amazing! So thorough and well explained, this is exactly what I was looking for since I’m considering practicing the IG
Someone mentioned it, but you didn't mention the back + A move. Which goes into my personal favorite combo when using an assist kinsect of x -> x -> back + a -> a. I’ve been using a Switch Axe & a Bow but I think I’m going to have to revisit the IG after this...downloading Rise as I type!
Status builds are going to be so fun.
When I unlocked the Magia Pitareen in low rank, you can bet I instantly attached a powder kinsect. Paralysis and blast damage for days, all while staying in the air (so sharpness is less important)
Thank you for the in depth explanation of the IG! Am gonna try it out tonight :)
Dropped right when I decided to pick up the IG again like in World. Thanks Arekkz!
