    Something to add about Sever-type Kinsects is that they will gain the base elemental attack stat of the weapon you're using. The base elemental attack stat includes Rampage skills, but doesn't include armor skills. Unfortunately, this doesn't work with status weapons.
    In addition to needing Kinsect stamina, Assist-type Kinsects also require you to have the Triple Up active before it will attack with you. The attacks it will accompany you on are Leaping Slash, Forward Roundslash, Strong Dodge Slash, Strong Double Slash, Tornado Slash, Tetraseal Slash, and Diving Wyvern.

      I freaking love the combo. I always do a XXX combo then back A then tornado slash. (I do the back A Bc tornado slash moves your forward, so you don’t always hit the second hit of TS if you don’t B-A)

      So the leaping slash into tornado does higher burst where the infinite has more sustained. For status and element glaives definitely use infinite combo. For high raw based glaives quick burst combo is usually the better of the two. But by no means is the infinite combo bad there either

    The thing with Triple Up Time kinsects is if you partner them with Power Prolonger 3, it basically lets you keep all your buffs per area. You only need to collect the triple buffs once until the monster switches area. So if you want that comfort, it's an option.

    Worth pointing out, the "infinite combo" is 'x''x''a','x''x''a' repeating. It also keeps you more in place than ending with tornado slash and you can still roll out of it whenever (I don't think you can roll out of tetraseal). Also, it really helps buff uptime if you start by getting red and white, THEN grabbing orange once those two's timer gets close to ending. If you do that you can refresh the timer on your buffs. This works this way because the triple buff has its own special timer. This helps keep the buff up longer while not taking up unnecessary time trying to get all three buffs. The timing isn't nearly as difficult as is sounds since the buff icon starts pulsating/flashing when it's about to run out.
    I really like the IG switch skills. With the exception of diving wyvern (I seriously don't know why you wouldn't want to use this, I'm not sure the I-frames on recall kinsect are worthwhile on a weapon with this much mobility), the other four seem to be worthwhile choices depending on your playstyle.

    • @rexflame9
      @rexflame9 3 роки тому +1

      I agree with most of this, but for DPS reasons, it's always best to go for triple buff, plus earplugs. The additional attack triple buff gets you compared to white snd red, makes a huge difference, plus a random roar can fuck you up if you're going for faster times.

    • @nebbythewhale6450
      @nebbythewhale6450 3 роки тому +2

      @@rexflame9 Did the difference between the attack bonus of red/white and triple change? Cause if the difference between attack bonuses didn't change from World, the longer buff uptime would still win out. That said, I did forget orange gives earplugs now, so triple buff does seem extra comfy and nice. Might be worth going for triple just for the comfiness.

    • @rexflame9
      @rexflame9 3 роки тому +2

      @Neb It did change I do believe, it is a very noticeable increase I'm damage. And with dual colors now being a stable on kinsects and not being a temporary buff, triple buff is so easy and quick to get now and maintain. The max earplugs too makes it insane to not go for.

    • @rexflame9

  • @XRay2x
    @XRay2x 3 роки тому +43

    Hey Ruri, just 2 things:
    As some others have noted if you ZR+A after Tornado Slash u can animation cancel the endlag of the Tornado Slash animation, and then follow up with a Strong Rising Slash and another Tornado Slash stringing it together into a loop.
    And secondly, an important note regarding Advancing Roundslash - a big benefit to it is that a successful parry/counter/whatever it is that vaults you into the air also provides you the first aerial damage buff stack, which means you can only follow it up with 2 additional Strong Advancing Jump Slash attacks BUT it also means that Diving Wyvern gets buffed faster.

It's just such a weird, cool weapon that's unique to Monster Hunter. I'm currently using the kinsect that brings double buffs, so I can get those up faster. I haven't unlocked some of the later kinsects though, looking forward to trying them out. Thanks for this guide! Something to add to buffs that I saw another person explain very well: Think of the buffs as coming from what the monster uses the bodypart for.
    For instance, what the monster attacks with (primarily) would provide red-buff.
    What they use to move would provide white-buff.
    Basically everything else is orange-buff. Tough hide is a good rule of thumb as well, as stated by Rurikhan.
    I like this explanation because it helps with monsters like Goss Harag. Their arms are the source of red-buff, where-as most other monsters arms are white-buff.

    When you start using more animation canceling (using send/recall kinsect cancels most animations), the speed bugs like Grancathar become amazing. I think Focus decreases the charge time on the chain attack, and the speed bugs are the absolute best for knockout and tail cut. They go where you point, they go fast, they hit 5 rapid strikes, and you recall it with your next animation cancel or the silkbind recovery. They also hit AOE so if another monster is in the general area, the bug hits everything.

  • @Manawolf25

    I mainly use the speed charge attack kinsect. I'll mainly focus on getting my buffs, but once I have them when I notice that the kinsect is charge I'll let it attack the monster. The damage adds up pretty nicely since it doesn't take all that long for it to charge up.

    One thing about Severing Kinsects that a lot of people don't know, they actually do the elemental damage of your insect glaive as well, so on element builds they can do really well! Blunt kinsects don't do this, and I'm pretty sure Severing doesn't do Ailments, just Elements

    Heal works a little differently!
    It WILL heal you wherever you are! It’s based on your Kinesect! While on your arm, pressing zl and a sends it out, and recalls it.
    IF it is out already, it will jump forward, then recall.
    The heal, is IF the bug HITS the monster, during its special attack animation during the few moments after the zl and a press.

      It also fully restores the kinsect's stamina once it comes back to you regardless of if it hit or not, which I don't think was mentioned. The FoeBeatle Kinsect is nice, even though its not one of the higher rarity ones, because it always gives you Orange/Defense buff. This is nice because the belly of the monster is usually the hardest part of the monster to hit. Combine that with the fact that it effectively makes the monster now have only two halves to worry about in terms of getting Red buff or White buff, it makes it a nice Kinsect all around, plus its an Assist type so it helps you deal more hits when its with you and you have all three buffs (which again it helps you get more easily)

  • @aaronmorgan5860
    @aaronmorgan5860 3 роки тому +3

    There is actually one other way to increase the damage for kinsects than just the level. You have to increase the elemental attack of your weapon through a ramp up skill. Normal elemental increase skills won’t work, but the ramp up skills can affect the kinsect attack as long as the weapon it’s self is an elemental weapon. And yes I have tested this on multiple different kinsect weapons.

    EDIT: putting the edit on top bc its important, but there are a couple things that should be added in. First, you get earplugs when you have both white and orange buff active. This follows to how some highly skilled users run their kit: with dual orange to avoid roar and then gather red during the roar.
    Also, recall kinesect can be used to cancel an animation, making combo recovery faster.
    On top of it having great dps, having been a newcomer to the series, it also allows hunters to scout out which body part is a weak point and observing early attack patterns, which was really useful having never seen any of the monsters before.
    Also, with chameleos I like to shoot pheromones on its face to track it when it goes invisible, so it’s useful for people not used to chameleos

    One thing you might not realize is that slashing type kinsects gain element from the weapon so a Charged Chain with High Element glaive could work where you alternate between attacking the monster and using the CCA
    Unfortunately the damage of CCA is too low to justify building an entire playstyle for it but maybe in G rank we get R10 kinsects that are insane.

    One important thing about the Recall Kinsect skill (ZL + A) I think you forgot is that once the kinsect gets back to you, its stamina is completely refilled, instantly.
    I know Diving Wyvern is unga-bunga and Recall Kinsect seems far less so, but between the I-frames, the healing, and the instant kinsect stamina recharge, Recall Kinsect can be OP in its own way. It's more for the tactical IG user.

  • @argentum1738

    You should not neglect the low rank bugs. They _all_ have properties that none of the high rank bugs have and even have the same stats. For example, Foebeetle and Alucanid both have Dual Color (Defense) which always let them grab orange off a monster which is good if you want quick earplugs. Another example, Rigiprayne is the only powder bug with just paralysis powder and Ladytarge is the only powder bug with just poison powder. In addition, their kinsect bonus allows them to get the most hits on a monster before running out of stamina (5 hits; Cancadaman and Ladypavise gets 4 hits; Fiddlibrix and Arkmaiden gets 3 hits).
    Also, the heal stat does not affect the healing the kinsect gives you. It only affects the kinsect's stamina regeneration... that's it. I've tested healing from Recall Kinsect with a kinsect with the lowest heal stat and one with the highest heal stat, it's the same. The starting bugs heal more but that's because of their bonus heal not their high heal stat. I've tested the heal powder with a level 1 Arkmaiden and a level 8 Arkmaiden, no difference. I even tested if it affect the kinsect's stagger value or part break value (like it did in Generations), and after abusing some low rank Great Izuchi I can say it does not do that. It only affects how fast they restore their stamina while resting on your arm... and that's it.
    With all that being said, it's not a useless stat. A higher heal stat means your powder bugs can be sent out more to spread more powders and your assist bugs will have plenty of stamina for assisting (and the Foebeetle/Alucanid have the most heal out of all the assist bugs meaning it's more likely to be available for assisting; another point for the low rank bugs).

    How much IG did you play in Iceborne Rui? Because oh boy, aerial hitboxes were definitely already a thing back then, less so in base MHW, but Master Rank kicked that up a notch.
    Also, the Heal stat on the bugs actually affects their stamina regeneration. Not sure if it affects heal clouds as well, but it definitely affects stamina regen.

    I was a glaive main in MHW, didn't play in Icebourne though.. but from what I remember, it seems like the insect glaive isn't nearly as good. The attacks seem a whole lot slower than what I'm use to from when I played MHW. I could manage most monsters easily enough with a number of different glaive builds, yet on MHR I'm having trouble with even basic monsters, or monsters I know well such as Diablos without having a party around, even the village quests I'm having trouble with the glaive. Finding it better to use dual blades, or even a hunting horn. Only rank 5 currently, so still a long ways to go, and my gearset is far from ideal. (Crit 5, Att 4, Con 4, SSharp 3, Ice 2, Recovery 2, Sleep 1, Heroics 1 currently) The increased mobility with the wirebugs is nice, but the damage (attack speed) seems to be way behind what it was in MHW.

    I have mixed feelings towards advancing roundslash. Sometimes it feels amazing cause you're like a dragonfly waltzing around the poor monster, other times you forget that your draw attack is a 15 feet dash and barely clip the monster. Definitely interesting to me though. Tetraseal I hate cause there are less damaging infinite combos that allows me to roll out more freely

    The sauce is to use Advancing Roundslash into an attack get the buff, reposition if you need to then Diving Wyvern immediately if its favorable to do so. Leaping Slash just sucks so much by comparison. Its essentially obsolete now as Diving Wyvern does so much more damage its not worth it to run Leaping and Recall. You can even have sleep on your palicos and Sleep Bomb + Diving Wyvern for a huge chunk.

    More seriously, with the insane mobility of the aerial style, if you master it, basically you are a god lol. I almost never get hit by a monster with this mobility, and follow him too to land the 3 hits is easy when you master it. We just don’t have the armor efficiency to slot in enough skills to make non-raw IGs compete with the standard Narga Masters Touch set up. If you could fit in masters touch, with afinity and max out elements it probably could be close but it currently Narga is best in pretty much every play style/match up. Would love to see elemental be viable down the road.

      It's just like hitting things with your weapons. The reason a tail is mentioned is that you can only cut tails with severing damage, you can hit a tail with a hammer all day long, and never cut it for instance. So yes, you can still break any piece of a monster with a kinsect, you just can only cut tails with severing ones, not with blunt ones.
