Always amazes how many Vita games i've never heard of.
A lot of hidden gems here! :)
It's not a ps vita game, but i do have a ps1 game that i can't recommend enough to play on vita. It's Echo Night.
It's sort of like a first person horror themed walking simulator but thanks to the vita's re-mapable buttons you can play it with modern fps controls! A very atmospheric game made by From Software in their earlier days.
Other great ideas are to make lists of the games that weren't designed for the Vita, but are great to play on the Vita... like these PS1 games... or PSP games. :-)
Hey not a bad idea for a future video!
Echo Night 2 also is good. Wasn't released in the West but there be a fan patch :) plus the 3rd one on ps2 is great as well.
Amazing hidden gem list!
My favorite vita game that no one talks about is Shiren the Wanderer
I only recently bought this one! Cool choice! :-)
Great choice, that game kicked my butt!
You've probably all heard of them, but I feel these are very much over-looked:
Salt and Sanctuary (A soulsbourne d-make, metroidvania-like in execution); Helldivers (twin-stick shooter with RTS elements, has cross-platform online co-op); Ys 8 (action-JRPG, one of the last major releases for the Vita).
Love it love it Ovie, solid choices there!
Salt and sanctuary is a very good game that should be a must for any vita fans looking for a solid Metroidvania adventure.
The vita is so special. I really have to thank you for pushing through the lull and making vita videos on the reg. I havent played it in a bit, but whenever I do 2 things happen: 1) I get sucked in like it's the 1st time and 2) I cant believe the batteries still full! Thanks again, cant wait to check these out
Your comment made me smile Brian, thank you!
Excellent selection, James! Each game truly a gem. I'm currently replaying Root Letter, love it that much.
Britta I tell ya, this can be no coincidence!
@@PSVitaat2am Ah, we go in tandem. 😀 I am however playing the Last Answer version on PS4 - it's easier that way to play it with PoodlePa and he loves the photo realism. You really fancy you're right there, in Shimane.
I actually have the collector's edition of Root Letter but haven't started playing it. Didn't realise how beautiful this looked, also didn't expect to see it on here. I appreciate this! 🙏💖
Hope you enjoy it!
Just imported playasia’s last copy Catherine full body! Hope that English patch works good
Its a dream man you will adore it!
How about "Shakedown Hawaii" :) Yesterday a friend sold me a physical copy
Hold on to that one!
@Sedret It's just about equally as good as Chinatown Wars, and that's saying a lot because I love GTA Chinatown Wars.
Its a great game. You should try its spiritual prequel
Retro City Rampage
also for the Vita.
That is definitely a great game
Tbh this is my favorite video you've ever made, not because it has games to do with the vita, its because its the only video that actually had an effect on my purchases, when i see hidden gems video i'm like "okay cool" and then just forget about the whole game completely the next day, but THIS actually made me buy 2 games for my vita, and no channel have ever made it half as far as you did, so pat yourself on the back and get yourself a choccy milk, because you are AWESOME!
I LOVE CHOCOLATE MILK!!!!!!!!
Great vid. Keep them coming! I picked up Phantom Breaker from this video. Loved the recs
Awesome, enjoy your new game! :)
so I was playing my video last night and yes I have an exclusive on the soul sacrifice version and I was playing call of duty declassified OMG how many people was still playing just wanted to say I love your channel everything you do PS Vita for life
Thank you so much Sky, your comment made my day good buddy! :)
Wonderful Hidden Gems video there James, your games of choice were totally awesome. I like that Jagged Alliance type war game clone and pretty much all those story based games rocked. Can't wait for a third part to this one.
I definitely plan to do more in the future!
dude in Phantom Breaker, it looks like one of the playable characters is a ninja
I know, but since it wasn't traditional attire I couldn't waste the gag.
Awesome! I'm interested in Legends of War and Ray Gigant a part 2 next month would be great
Thank you so much for the comment!
Hidden gems for the Vita (🦋):
Grand Kingdom
Aegis of Earth : Protonovus Assault
Natural Doctrine
Lost Dimension
Summon Night 6: Lost Borders
VA-11HA11A
Trillion : God of Destruction
Unit 13
Broken Age
Mystery Chronicles: One way Heroics
....and many more out there, I'm sure.
The rest of them are not so hidden 😀
This 👐🏻
This list brought a tear to my eye!
Definitely do more of these hidden gems vids! :-D As you said, there is room for a lot more games. I always felt TxK is one of the best games on the Vita... yet, it seems that a lot of people never heard of it. It's basically Tempest 2000. Soooooo good. :-)
Another great pick from Kabuki, you're on a roll! :)
Once again providing us with a solid list! I'll need to give Little King's Story a try, and I cant wait to see what you'll pull up next.
Glad you enjoyed it Alex.
Glad you have listen bro I don't comment as much but I still watch every single video
Hey its all good man, means the world to me just having you here. :)
Im playing ray gigant now, and if you are not familiar with drpg games its a great intro to the genre. Sorcery saga is a great slapstick comedy of a rogue like rpg...plus its only 4.50 on the psn. Im having fun with them. Root Letter looks like a non spooky NG...which is a really awesome visual novel which seems more like the pen and paper table top rpg of call of cthulu.
Yes you are right about that regarding Root Letter, more people need to play it.
Uno, duso, threesee, fouro, fivali, sixunoc, seveneckemen.
Hope your throat has healed after that opening.
Great compilation
Thanks!
As someone who owns a complete physical NA vita collection, I'd like to see a top 10 or hidden gems on Digital Only releases. Vita has tons of digital only games that physical collectors may have missed.
Ooooh I like that idea!
I haven't heard many playing Oceanhorn. I really recommend it, reminds me of Zelda. Sadly we can't have Oceanhorn 2.
i thought we got oceanhorn 2???!!!
Mobile phone: Yes but for the vita, nope.
Correct me if I'am wrong.
Wait there's oceanhorn for vita? Nice
Yup both physical and digital.
I'm actually on my Vita watching this at 5:13 AM instead of sleeping... nice video as always!
Thanks buddy, appreciate you tuning in. :)
I'm adding la mulana ex. I'm literally playing it now after owning it for so long a finally got round to playing it and wow if you like Metroidvania games with epic adventure and puzzles then la mulana is a must.
Great game! I remember getting stuck on it and haven't played it since, need to get back into it.
@@PSVitaat2am oh yes it's definitely a game you will get stuck in multiple times but the feeling you get when you discover something new is amazing lol.
If you like metroidvanias, I think Axiom Verge is on the Vita as well
@@vincenttimdanlaposh3603 yes another amazing game👌
Omg! I must have 3 of the 5 games! You did such a great job! I've never heard of any of these titles! The ones I didn't want were the war game and the little King one.
Thank you Eevee, I know you will love Little Kings Story. :)
Ray Gigant was always alluring to me and I’m not sure why I didn’t pick it up. Love those dungeon crawling games
Thank you so much for the comment!
Great selection! I only have New Little Kings Story. History Legends of War looks better than I expected.
Check it out, fun game!
Nice video! My favorite was Phantom Breaker. The only problem was that this game was very short in size. Root letter, though, is AWESOME!
Fair enough!
New Little King and History look really good. I played Pikmin and Overlord franchises a ton as a kid. You've convinced me yet again.
Thank you so much for the comment!
My hidden gem (really personal favourite) is Ridge Racer Vita. I admit the game doesn't have most of the RR features like career mode and much tracks and cars, and it is very demo-ish with DLCs, but it's still to this day my favourite arcade drift-based racing game. You can hate me for it, but I love the game.
Thank you for sharing your story
I know I'm stupid for reccomensing a PS1 game for Vita, but Legend Of Dragoon is a hidden gem that has a cult following that has been growing rapidly recently! It even has its own community on reddit!
Not at all man, all hidden gems are welcome here. :)
@@PSVitaat2am, yay!
Great list of games, and I never bought Phantom Breaker for some reason. Will fix that immediately -- looks fun!
Hope you enjoy it!
great job on a suggested topic! i'm not a man of few vita games, but i got none of those. will give phantom breaker and ray gigant a look.
Let me know know what you think of them once you do. :)
@@PSVitaat2am i've bought phantom breaker today and added the stein's gate girl dlc (whom i mostly play as). really good value for money. easy to pick up and fun to play.
Thanks for the video.
No worries!
Shinobido 2!!
Oooooh I like this choice!
I'll try root letter, really love how there are so many visual novels available for vita. I can take them on the go / in my couch instead of sitting in front of my computer for hours
I couldn't agree more with you. :)
Thanks. I never heard of phantom breaker. I need to get it!
Hope you enjoyed it
@@PSVitaat2am Yeah it's been great!
On the subject of visual novel, I feel like nobody talk about Muv Luv.
Amazing games, especially when you get to Alternative ... requires a big time commitment to get through all three games tho, and I think since they were "late in life" games for the Vita (with zero publicity) not many people bought them...
Muv Luv = 💖
Muv Luv Alternative = 💔
Pretty cool VNs.
I mentioned that game in my list of long ps vita games while social distancing.
I really like the twin stick shooter elements in Phineas and Ferb on Vita.
Oooooh that's one of my favorites on Vita. :)
I just found out my dad is my father
Whoa dude, you're being a little too real for me here!
Great list of games. Still haven't bought phantom breaker even though it's only 3 bucks. Ray Gigant is on my radar but if it has Odin sphere vibes, then for sure I'll get it👍
Try these games out Marco as I'm sure you will love them.
I wouldn't compare Ray Gigant to Odin Sphere. Visually, It's kinda hard to compare any game to Vanillaware's. Plot and setting are very similar to God Eater, while gameplay is like any other first person dungeon crawler....with a twist lol
Finally someone talks about Little kings story! Great game👍🏻
I love it
Biggest Vita Hidden Gems: Grand Kingdom and Aegis Earth. I mean, I never hear nobody talk about them ever and they are really great games. Awesome video as always.
Edit: I really want to try Phantom Breaker. I have Scott Pilgrim downloaded on my PS3 and it's really good. This game really proves my point about digital content, you're not buying, you're renting long term... Or short depending on the case.
I know quite a few people on #Vitaisland who love Aegis Earth, and I always recommend it to people looking for a different kind of tower defence experience.
I did a gameplay video on Aegis Earth back in July 2019, and I know others have done so too.
Couldn't agree more!
Streets of Rage 4 would have been perfect for the Vita
It really should have been!
I checked the trophy guide for New Little King's Story and it looks interesting.
Try it out I'm sure you'll like it! :)
That 2nd game tho i never thought anime RPG and the rhytm genre would be mixed also those are my most favorite genres of the bunch so having Anime dungeon crawling RPG mixed with rhythm genre element and the characters kinda look like the caligula effect characters on my beloved psvita that's biscally a matchmade in heaven
Trust me you won't regret picking it up. :)
@@PSVitaat2am yeah i'm pretty sure i won't the detailed information from your commentary and the footages of the game all of them promises me a good time also phantom breaker seems great idk how it cost for other regions but for me it was 5.79$ i'm actually thinking of getting it soon next week edit:i just got the game today and its been more than a week "i'm gonna get next week" more like next month😂
You should do a Ports for the Psvita from non PlayStation consoles . Like Ninja gaiden sigma plus - Xbox , Oddworld Strangers wrath - Xbox , Muramassa rebirth - Nintendo Wii , Jet set radio - Dream cast , Dungeon Hunter alliance - I phone etc.
That is definitely on my to do list!
There will be like infinite gems with remote play, if I ever get a PS Vita this thing will literally eat my time. There are so much gems if you don’t have a PS4 or PS3. RPGs can be awesome for those graphics hungry people. Visual Novels are perfect for TV fans. There is content for everyone! I wish the PS Vita was more popular... Anyways thanks again for this video and see in the next one!
Thank you David! :)
Great job. How about a review about all the bootleg memory cards. I’d like to know what one is the best.
You mean the ones like from China? None really as they can easily corrupt, especially the 64GB.
A hidden gem I'm playing for a Hwhile on my Vita is Akiba's Trip Undead & Undressed. Love that you strip vampire-like enemies to kill them while you too can be killed in that method because your character turns into one of them at the very first scene in the game. Only gripes I have so far are the assload of laaaaag and some repetitive side missions, but I have a metric fuckton of fun.
Some other Vita hidden gems I highly recommend are the Neptunia and Senran Kagura series. Both are full of fanservice, both feature great female-lead casts... some with big assets if you know what I mean :P, both also feature great gameplay and both are very fun to play.
For my final recommendation today, since we've already talked about Phantom Brave Battle Grounds and Scott Pilgim, I give you 99Vidas, a sidescrolling beat'em up with a similar art style as the former 2.
If you're all interested in these suggestions, I'm happy to have helped out. :)
OH CRAP! I've done the Stewie Griffin thing again. LOL
Thank you so much for the comment!
@@PSVitaat2am My pleasure, James!
I’m definitely going to try that Everybody Loves Ray Gigant game.
Three games I’d like to mention are:
Dead Nation, Dungeon Hunter Alliance, & Plants VS Zombies. All of them have tons of replay value, cheap, and platinum trophies.
Love these picks love them
My hidden gems: Urban Trial Freestlye ( a 2D single player biking game in the motorstorm series), Rocketbirds 1 and 2 (two of my favorite games ever!) Quell Memento (great puzzle game), Kick and Fennick (Fun puzzle platformer no one talks about), Attractio (first person puzzle game based around a deadly reality tv show), God Wars Future Past (excellent RPG which not many people talk about from the makers of Natural Doctrine), A Men 1 and 2 (fun addictive 2d puzzle platformers) Factotum 90 (first person puzzle game aboard a spacecraft with an alien onboard!)... thats a tiny few from the bowels of my mind. Have tons more where they came from!
Awesome, thank you for participating!
For Phantom Breaker, Yuzuha is a ninja btw.
I had a feeling, couldn't waste the gag though. xD
Just remembered one my favourite games that doesn't get enough love, Teslagrad.
Definitely one of the better metroidvanias, especially if you don't want extreme difficulty. Another you might want to try, if you haven't, is "forma.8." It's a bit different. You play as something like a small space probe. You constantly float/fly and your movements have momentum to contend with. Because you're just a little probe, you're offensively weak. If I remember correctly, you start off with a defensive forcefield which pushes enemies away and does a little bit of damage, then later you get the ability to drop a small bomb. The only way to launch a bomb is to push it with the forcefield. Most of the combat (maybe there were other offensive abilities later that I'm currently forgetting) involves maneuvering so that you can get a bomb between you and your target and then pushing it into them.
Aside from a few "race" moments, the game is a bit slower but the combat is still really exciting. Teslagrad and forma.8 are the only metroidvanias I've bothered to platinum (I'm one hard mode run from the Guacamelee Plat though) and since I'd consider them both in the "hidden gem" arena and I think forma.8 is a pretty unique and underrated game... I decided to rant at you. If it sounds interesting at all, hopefully you'll give it a look and if you've already played it, let me know if you liked it.
@@Rpm2878 I'm definitely going to play it at some point. I've played most metroidvania/action/puzzle platforming games on vita. My favourite that iv platinumed is salt and sanctuary. I got the plat for guacamelee too. I'm currently playing La mulana ex and it's absolutely incredible. I'm trying to beat it without a guide I'm over 20 hours in. I'll definitely post here again after playing forma 8. Oh I got the plat for Teslagrad too.
@@Crazyoldman84 I'm pretty bad about finishing games. Playing La-Mulana EX without looking anything up seems pretty daunting. I don't remember how much I spoiled but it was still pretty tough, and I only beat 1 or 2 bosses. It's another game I want to get back to and finish one day. Also congratulations on platinuming Salt & Sanctuary, yet another on my stack of shame. I'm only to The Mire, after a couple of stretches over the 2.5 years I've owned it. I keep letting myself be detracted by friendlier virtual environments.
As for puzzle-platformers, have you played The Swapper?
Oooooh nice pick, will have to include that in a part 2
I played a few of these
root letter
history of war
and new little kings story that game was the most fun of the ones I played though relay enjoyed getting that platinum pretty sure it was my first platinum trophy as well
Thank you so much for the comment!
I've never heard of people Talking about Lost dimension That much, Its really a hidden gem, Turn Based JRPG with Plot Twisting Plot and yea You've gotta see it for yourself
On #Vitaisland people talk about Lost Dimension *a lot*. It's one of the highest rated Vita games there.
Love that game love it
Lovely list
Appreciate that :)
Okay then...
I am more on the action side of the ps vita games. And i think you missed out talking about vitua tennis 4 world tour edition. Still they are online matches available. Severs are online. And the graphics? One of a kind!
Best regards.
If you want this one now, you need to hunt down a physical copy. Sadly, they removed it from the store, so you can only download it if you bought it once upon.
Will have to add this in a part 2
💗
For me : lost child, Berserk band of thieft, Empires2, and Spiderman
Great picks here
Nintendo switch:Am I a joke to you know...lmao
Hahahaha!!!!
Iconoclasts is an indie game with a deep story, fun gameplay, and endearing characters. I went in expecting nothing and found a diamond in the rough.
Love that game! :)
Here more Hidden gems for psvita:
The princess guide (also on PS4 and switch) Vita versión Japan only, but can play in English with a patch.
The liar princess and the blind Prince (Same case as other mentioned game, both are from Nippon icchi soft)
Gun gun Pixies (another not located Game for Vita, but it's available un west for PS4 and nintendo switch)
Although in truth it is not very good, but it is worth a little mention, more than anything for those looking for games similar to gal gun, bullets girls phantasia and Senran Kagura.
Army corps of hell (this is like Pikmin, but with demons and metal music)
Reverie (this looks like a fusión with earthbound and legend of Zelda)
Awesome choices there, you certainly know good games when you see them!
Awsome vid, i love this kind of content (^-^)
More to come! :)
Fairune is a interesting game for vita I never hear anyone talk about
I'll have to try that game out! :)
@@PSVitaat2am I hope you enjoy!
I think Caligula Effect doesn't have an attention and praise it should have. It has anime but the gsme is much better. Root letter is so good. I played it 2 years ago.
Ah yes very great choice there!
Caligula effect eh when it comes to looks the characters doesn't vary that much like some of the characters looks basic as hell and they all have the same gosh darn pale white skin and by white i mean WHITE and the characters lack facial animation in anything that happens espically in fights so it's no surprise it doesn't get praise and if you can't operate facial expression for 3D models then why couldn't you settle in for 2D art styled battles like ray gigant that's something the bugs me so much about the game and i'm glad my sis bought it on ps4 instead of me deciding to buy it on my psvita
I am going to be honest. Have not played any of these games yet but they look very interesting.
Hope you get to try some out brother! :)
@@PSVitaat2am I will definitely give em a shot.
I have phantom breaker on xbox360 it would be a great on the vita, I just good root letter the last answer day edition on ps4 and don't want to open it it because how nice it's packaged lol.
Hahahaha, a true collector!
Fantasy Hero: Unsigned Legacy. If you can deal with a little bit of frame rate issue (though not horrible), a corny story, and reading text, you will be rewarded with one of best real time RPG, dungeon crawlers on the Vita.
Awesome, appreciate your input. :)
everytime i hear him say “purchase” i giggle because i’m the biggest game pirate on the internet 😂
Hahahaha!!!
Another fact I learned a few months ago about the ps vita I remember watching and reading people comparing the definition of the vita with the wii of 480p how both have the same definition but that isn't truth the vita has 540p definition not even the 3ds had that definition lol
Oh you have a solid point there Rugal!
You mean resolution?
Unit 13 doesn't get as much live as it should imo. Yeah the framerate is annoying most of the time, but stick with it and it's a very rewarding game. Just wish that framerate was better!
Great choice Dojo, have you tried overclocking your Vita?
@@PSVitaat2am Hmm, I haven't no. I've only cracked one of my PSTVs. I might have a look into it. You keeping safe over there James?
First game was pretty good I still have Scott pilgrim vs the world
Man I wish it would get a re-release.
OK, just bought Phantom Breaker thanks to this video. For 3.69GBP, why not. Thanks for the suggestion, people.
Hope you enjoyed it buddy
I just thought of another one, but it is almost a cruel one to post, since you can no longer get this version of the game... Plants vs. Zombies. It was only available digitally on the Vita store for like a year, or so. It was maybe the best version of the game... and the designers even said so! Sadly, it was pulled very early into the life of the Vita. I'm thankful I snagged it while it was still available for sale. A definite hidden (and lost) gem.
Solid pick there, always sad to see a game get delisted from the store.
for me you missed mary skelter and Bad Apple Wars
I shall keep them in mind for future videos. :)
Can't find New little king's story on the PS store 😭 does anyone know where is available?
I believe it depends on your region as it may have been delisted in some areas. There is a physical version out there though.
Is Freedom Wars any good?
Yes it is - on my list to play but head alot of good things
For sure, especially in multiplayer!
Yes it's very good. A must if you ask me.👍🏼
Amazing! And the last big Vita game published by Sony ...
No doubt about it. It's a really good game👍🏻
Please feature Shinobido 2. ☺
Will add it to the list :)
I want more!!!!
More to come :)
I played Scott Pilgrim and loved it.....then the PS3 broke....sigh....I miss that game...
Ouch very sorry to hear that.
@@PSVitaat2am forgot to mention that I checked out Phantom Breaker on the PS store and got it for $3
I mean i don't think you can add ninjas to this game considering one the characters is a highschool ninja
Ah great point!
I wouldn't say any of these are really hidden gems, seems to be more of a anime jprpg community list of games for that genre. Not my kind of games but good to have diversity for vita.
Well admittedly anime, JRPGs and indies is what makes a majority of the library on Vita.
I think ppl should play Invizimals
You are right about that. :)
Legend of wars reminds me pathway to glory from nokia ngage
I think you'll like it.
or play devious dungeon 1 and 2. a rpg 2d dungeon game.
Great picks here!
Ahhh I wish I had a vitaaaa
I'm sure you'll get one soon enough. :)
PSVita at 2am yeah I started working a couple weeks ago and watching your channel makes me want to splurge my entire paycheck on the handheld 😂 I just gotta save up
keeping the vita alive
One video at a time! :)
Awesome
Thanks buddy! :)
@@PSVitaat2am Thank you!
Retro city rampage , shake down Hawaii ..
Love it love it! :)
Patton is turn-based strategy game. Definitely wouldn't put it in the rpg genre. I did enjoy it though.
True, I just thought since it had some simular eliminates to it is all.
@@PSVitaat2am
I definitely saw where you were going with it. Makes sense.
this isn't *really* a Hidden Gem but more of an underappreciated game overshadowed by its more popular sequels, but guys please play the Persona 2 duology
Oh definitely! Persona 1 and 2 are so overlooked!
@@PSVitaat2am they're so overlooked that Atlus didn't even acknowledge their anniversaries
7:30 😂😆😊
Hahahaha!!!
Conquer the world you say?
Based on the description yeah. xD
How about "Best _non_ anime vita games"?
I can try, but unfortunately the Vita is known mostly for its anime and indie title.
@@PSVitaat2am Yeah I've come to find that out. I got my OLED Vita a little over a year ago and immediately modded it because, memory card prices. Only had a few titles and didn't play it much because of all my other hobbies. The eShop scare got me picking it back up and now it's my daily driver. I've played (or started playing) some of the more known anime titles like Freedom Wars, Tales of Hearts R, and P4G and I actually like them because they're not visual novels and not, I dunno, "over the top"?
Aside from all that, it's more of a digital game platform with not nearly as many physical releases in comparison which can be frustrating for a collector like myself. But, I still love the little guys and hope Sony learns from their mistakes with it and tries again.
I dont see soul sacrifice in this list .-.
That is a great game, though I feel many know of it already.
Well-known to be one of the Vita's best games, esp SS Delta!
I'm tryna save my money I got news for u guys if I get this devkit I'm a be in work for 2021
Bro that is simply amazing!!!
Dunno why, but Ray Gigant reminded me mostly of Time and Eternity in its presentation lol
Oh heck yeah I LOVE Time and Eternity. It was the text book definition of being in full control of an anime!
@@PSVitaat2am is it good though? I've seen some gameplay videos of it but not sure if it's worth getting it
Ugh! Stupid new UA-cam app update. I accidentally unsubscribed. Re-subbing now!
All good my brother

Love Rucks' in-game narration...Thanks 👍🏻😀
