Superman: "Jimmy has turned in to the giant turtle, and Titano is on the loose, what should we do professor Hamilton?" Professor Hamilton: "Let. Them. Fight."
Clearly, what DC Comics needs most as an ultimate getting-back-to-its-roots mega-story is Jimmy Olsen turning into some bizarre monster, Lois Lane marrying him, and a team-up of all the Clayfaces plus Supergirl's stalker horse to save the day. Rebirth 2.0.
all the clayfaces fuse together to become the one true clayface who his cured and create's new character that's a combination of all the other clayface's. Then he gets a redemption arc but is turned back in to clayface.
Good luck figuring it out! Sometimes he's treated like he's a teenager, sometimes he's in his twenties, sometimes he celebrates his 21st birthday and some issues later celebrates his 18th... his actual age is all over the place in his series.
First off, someone was stretching the definition of "turtle" with that design. Secondly, the fifth famous turtle teen, Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael, Michaelangelo... Jimmy, and maybe Franklin, once he actually grows up, and him coming over to your house becomes a threat.
At 3:56 waitaminute, waitaminute! Superman finds an enlarging ray and instead of grabbing it (so he can, you know, see if it works on KANDOR) tells Jimmy to get rid of it? I guess that's part of the charm of Silver Age stories. If you think two minutes about them they fall apart. Fortunately when this was first published I was seven, the perfect age for it.
If you didn't already find it over the last year, googling "godzilla playing guitar t shirt" turns it up instantly, as you'd expect. As someone who grew up with floppy disks and dial-up, the internet never ceases to amaze me. :)
I like how Superman's first thought is to hurl Jimmy into space. Then there's 1:51. Superman doesn't look particularly upset that Jimmy is stuck in Kandor forever. "The growth ray broke". Probably because you stepped on it Superman!
So Much Fun!!!! I especially appreciate the Blue Oyster Cult lyrics. I will always sing it that way now whenever I hear that song. Silver Age plots (at DC at least) were certainly the most contrived, but also the most fun.
I'm glad you threw in the fact that the story was based off a *_Thrilling Wonder Stories_* cover. I was completely stunned when I first saw that magazine cover, with the scaly pop-eyed alien who became Jimmy, and the spaceship that became Superman.
In the first panel shown of this story, when Clark, Lois and Jimmy are on the cruise ship, I liked how Clark was laying on the deck chair with his feet up, reading the newspaper, and he's still in his default Clark-at-work suit. They couldn't even switch him out to be in casual clothes while he's on vacation on a cruise ship???
This should've been an ongoing feature of Jimmy Olsen. He could be turned into the giant turtle man when needed. He'd be like the Hulk in the Avengers films: "I'm sorry Jimmy, but we need the Turtle."
Jimmy the Menace and Lois the Bride, Superman never has a chance to relax. Jimmy at the time was a menace even when not transforming into something. Like Lois, Superman was always having to save Jimmy.
You should also do a playlist of other jobs Jimmy has done besides being a cub reporter or as part of his cub reporter news efforts. He once took Robin's place. He was once or twice a rock star during the Beatles craze. I think he was a cowboy once and a gangster, taking the place of his evil duplicate. Or at least I have a memory of that. Or that could have been another red-headed teen I'm thinking of.
I thought this was going to be about Turtle, the possible villain identity of Wally's son. Speaking of which, since you did a close look at Lian, will you also do one for Wally's children?
IIRC the plans for Jai West becoming the next Turtle (and there have been multiple Turtles in Flash lore) also included Eobard Thawne having a daughter named Mara. Mara Thawne. Gotta love pun names.
I love Jimmy's crazy transformations: a lot of them (including Turtle Man) showed up in Countdown (aka Countdown to Final Crisis) where Jimmy temporarily gained the power to turn into those forms. Turtle Man even fought Darkseid in hand to hand combat in the final issue.
Hide all the handsome men from Lois and all the weapon/magical-or-alien souvenirs from Jimmy Damn, these two are a chaotic duo. I'd feel bad for Sups if he wasn't a piece of work himself
He is or was an honorary member of the LSH as Elasti-Jimmy. Lana Lang is an honorary member too. Lois never was made an honorary member. Probably a good thing since she would have had a number of eligible male Legionaires to try and marry.
Of course people remember lori lemaris, or at least the writers of the animated movie of the dead of superman do. I'll always treasure ma and pa Kent teasing their son in front of Lois for dating a mermaid as a teen
Lmao 😂 Jimmy cannot be left alone for one day! Superman needs to get some new friends. That is some durable underwear Jimmy has. Was probably a gift from Superman for these certain occasions. Lol. Love the Godzilla shirt and the Go go Godzilla reference. Lol Favorite Sasha quotes: "With a purposeful grimace and a terrible sound he pulls those spinning high tension wires down. Helpless people on subway trains scream bugeyed as he looks in on them. Go go Jimmy Olsen!" "But we are not here to see Jimmy get small. We are here to see him get big and mutant into a grotesque lizard turtle thing." 🐢
I love how someone builds a growth ray and, instead of simply getting one gold coin and enlarging it to make themselves rich, they tack on mind control for fun and concoct the most ridiculous plan ever. Also, I love how he had to go all the way back to Metropolis to steel metal from the bridge because they were out of ships in the ocean or something. Gotta love silver age chaos.
I have to say, I never really understood/appreciated the Jimmy Olsen moments in All-Star Superman until this playlist and realizing what his Silver Age characterization was all about.
I do hope she makes good on her promise of more Silver Age Jimmy Olsen goofiness. These stories make me think Superman befriended Lois and Jimmy to reduce the amount of collateral damage from their tomfoolery.
I'll have you know that as a 10 year old boy, finding that Superman only fell in love with beautiful women with the initials "LL" was edifying. It made perfect sense (given that both Lois Lane and Lana Lang also fit the criteria) and the fact that she had fins was totally irrelevant to me. Granted, once girls became more than plot devices in comics and a source of cootties I realized that made no sense whatsoever, but for a while it was there ...
I had my brothers comics to grow up on. These were part of his collection that i distinctly remember. Loved the Elastic lad stories and of course the turtle boy. Thanks a bunch for this.

Anytime Blue Oyster Cult can be worked into a vid it should be. Then a reference to Battleship-The Game-not the movie. The Giant Snail went on to star in the original Dr. Doolittle with Rex Harrison.
For a theme, you could look at Superman's various pals who somehow managed to become honorary Legionnaires. I can't remember which version of Jimmy got that honor, but I do recall Lana as Insect Queen and Pete Ross as . . . Pete Ross.
Turtle Boy Jimmy Olsen made a small cameo in the Scribblenauts Unmasked comic tie-in. He was in Comic-Book Limbo, a concept originally from Grant Morrison's run on Animal Man. Scribblenauts Unmasked is a good comic btw. It captures the tone of the games very well.
Jimmy's transformations like the Turtle Man, was also referenced in JLA: The Nail by Alan Davis and Mark Farmer. Basically, what if the Kents never found Clark and thus no Superman. Jimmy eventually ends up becoming like a Bizarro by Lex. It's interesting.
7:30 -- If I remember correctly, an episode of the KL UNLIMITED series opened in Tokyo, where a Gamera look-alike had a shock of red hair hair growing out of its head, another Turtle Jimmy reference I'm sure.
I love your hair in this one! Those bits of pink against the black look amazing. Also yes I would 100% shoot random things if I found a ray gun on the beach. 😅
This is from that era when they would come up with a cover 1st, and forced the writers to figure out what was going to be happening in the book, if what I've been told is true. I seem to remember DC doing a little gimmick thing where they did that again sometime in the early 2000's or late 90's, but I cannot remember anything specific, or even if I'm just making it up it up in my own brain. Anyone? This isn't one of those things that's particularly easy to Google.
First up the Jimmy voice is hilarious. Second of all, more Jimmy Olsen transforming, fab. However what would really do it for me is more Silver Age transformation- Flash, Supergirl, Wonder Woman, Justice League, there's lots of zany shenanigans that would be fun.
You mean like the time the Flash got fat? Or the time he was turned into a wooden puppet? Or Wonder Woman turned into a gorilla? Never going to happen here!
I hope you talk about the Adventures of Jimmy Olsen story "Boy in a Bottle" one day! There are some wild moments. 'It's not Jimmy's fault.'
You can't trick us, comic. This is /entirely/ Jimmy's fault, and he needs to take responsibility for his wacky hijinks.
A traumatised survivor from that bridge is clearly the person who "disliked" this video!

The moral of the story is to never let Jimmy near any new and strange objects, ever.

Two minutes? That's fine for most of the Silver Age, but Jimmy stories tend to fall apart if you think about them for two seconds.
"you know how jimmy is... We ALL know how jimmy is!" LOL i almost spat out my oatmeal! LOL
In the Death of Superman novel, Jimmy was working as a kid's show character named Turtle Boy.
Lois interrupts taping to cover the fight with Doomsday.
And somehow the turtle's bite combines with mustard in Jimmy's bloodstream from whatever he was eating to turn into a giant Turtle Boy.
See I knew ht was somewhere in my head-canon, but I couldn't place the context.
I need that Godzilla playing a guitar T-shirt in my life

Aw yeah, Jimmy Olsen turning into things 😎
The original animorph.
That's the comic i want, Jimmy Olsen, DISASTER HUMAN!!
At last, the perfect companion series to Lois marries (not Superman)! I love your take on these Silver Age stories.
For me, this is the trippiest part of the 60s Superman era. Those eyes are just wow...
Giant-Sized Jimmy Olsen: "Am I not turtlely enough for the Turtle Club?"
Jimmy Olson's transformations are as timeless as Supermans " Up..UP..and away!!!"
OK- after that opening we need 'An Evening with Karaoke Woods'
"Oh no, they say he's got to go
Go go God-Jimmy!" 😀

Thank goodness he could relax around Perry White! No ... wait, Perry caused problems a half dozen times or so.
Goxo sounds like a cleaning agent from the 50s. Goxo! Twice the cleaning power of the leading brand!
I gotta say that Jimmy as the humungous Turtle Giant was far more believable than Jimmy in the 1970's in his " Mr. Action " phase .
What we need next are Lori Lemaris stories! Just for the fish puns alone!! Fin-tastic!!
Superman's hanger on, Jimmy Olsen
Decades old comics are the best. I mean, this is just nuts. I love it.

How Jimmy's the true bane of Superman
In the first panel shown of this story, when Clark, Lois and Jimmy are on the cruise ship, I liked how Clark was laying on the deck chair with his feet up, reading the newspaper, and he's still in his default Clark-at-work suit. They couldn't even switch him out to be in casual clothes while he's on vacation on a cruise ship???
THANK YOU for doing the giant Jimmy turtle man! One of the most iconic yet least understood episodes from this era of comics!
This should've been an ongoing feature of Jimmy Olsen. He could be turned into the giant turtle man when needed. He'd be like the Hulk in the Avengers films: "I'm sorry Jimmy, but we need the Turtle."
A series of Jimmy Olsen transformations?!? How about mixing them up with a DC gorilla series, or a series of silver age Flash transformations?
You have no idea how excited I was for this video! Can't wait for more Jimmy "A Danger to Humanity" Olsen vids.
Jimmy the Menace and Lois the Bride, Superman never has a chance to relax. Jimmy at the time was a menace even when not transforming into something. Like Lois, Superman was always having to save Jimmy.

I always wondered why I kept seeing Jimmy Olsen as "Turtle Boy" in various comics since the 90s. It was an homage to this story.

Yes, send Jimmy into the sun. His incompetent bumbling makes him more dangerous than any super villain!
Giant Turtle-Man Jimmy is still more dignified than ... MISTER ACTION!
I don’t know why but the fact that Clark once dated a mermaid makes me very happy.
