Why iPhone Says Your Password Was Leaked

- It’s become common for users to receive this popup window on their iPhone. Explaining that their password has appeared in a data leak. It’s a concerning message that most users want to know more about. And that’s what I’ll explain in this video.

apple: your password was leaked”
“how would you know that?”
apple: ._.
it checks your email, not password
they take the raw passwords, hash it (which cannot be reversed), erase the raw passwords (so you only have an irreversible hash), and check those hashes against your password.
and your email is also checked.
maybe because you entered the password
(Now get this, this is a rare concept)
into the phone
@@bemwy it was a joke
They also paid hackers to sell the leaked lists 🧐
I wouldn’t mind using Apple’s suggested passwords if my devices were more consistent in using said passwords when autofilling account information.
yeah but as for log-in somewhere else is nightmare. makes sense for something you would use on your phone or IOS devices only but not ideal if you have multiple platforms.

Sorry, I put this on your last video not knowing that you were posting half an hour later. I used to work at my local apple store as a genius. My friends always ask me why the iPhone doesn't support the apple pencil, I'm sure you're also asked often. It'd be cool if you made a video about it and here's the reasons: Number 1: There are hardware capabilities, the ipad is built with a special display that supports and recognises the movements of the pencil. Number 2: The size. The largest iPhone has a 6.7 inch display and the apple pencil 2nd generation is about 6.5 inches long and the 1st generation is 6.9 inches long. Its too large to sit comfortably on top of an iphone to wireless charge and too long to sit inside the lightning port. Thirdly: It just doesn't look appealing to see someone on their iphone with a white thing hanging out of the botttm and the it doesn't match any of the colours of the flagship iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max. Lastly: The iPad battery is much larger and takes 15 seconds to charge an apple pencil for half an hour whereas an iphone would take about 7 minutes to charge the same amount. It takes 28 times the charging time. It is rumoured that in the next few years, apple will drop the iPad mini from the lineup in favour of a large display iphone with pencil support. Hope this helps for a potential video, hopefully if it did get made into a video, my friends would stop pestering me about it.
Thanks for the info. But I just wonder since you worked for apple as a genius, does that make you a certified genius? Idk why my stupid ass thought of that when I read it.
It’s because the phone isn’t a note
absolutely! i think this is a nice topic and fits well with the channel.
thanks for the info man!

Being a lifetime Android user, I'm actually baffled by the features iOS offer that actually make so much sense. 👏
Sideloading is now the only thing stopping us - to be honest, and it isn't even a strong excuse anymore. 😅
you can sideload apps without jailbreaking your iphone. it’s not that convenient like on an android, but still pretty doable. all you need is a laptop, altstore and the .ipa file (equivalent to .apk files) of the app that you want to install
@Ben Toon For example? Which brand does that *without* an app?

When you have the same password everywhere... 😰
That is straight up a nightmare
That is just stupid
Unfortunatley some of us actually have a hard time remembering a lot of passwords and don't feel safe putting on a sticky note as we know we would lose it.
@@malice6081 put it in a locked notepad on an app then. Then activate Face ID to auto fill complicated passwords. If you wish to log onto a non IOS running device, just copy letter by letter to the password keyboards and you’re set. I’d rather take my time filling in my password than use the same because of the convenience. My info can mess my professional life up, tbh.

Thank you Greg for the explanation!
All of these alerts that I’ve ever gotten are for extremely old accounts and passwords that I haven’t used for years. I’ve never had one for any current passwords!
Great video as usual. Particularly useful since I recently saw that message and was wondering about it. I've been wanting to ask about the background music that play in those videos. I find it relaxing, yet empowering as it odd as it may sound. Is there a download link available for it ?
Thanks a bunch. This video was really helpful. Even though I did not receive this message on Apple services but I did receive it on my Google services and that got me a lot concerned.
Thanks Greg. Great information.
I'm impressed there wasn't a password sponsor in this video, I was expecting one since they're pretty common on UA-cam.
Apple offers a free password manager for apple products. So you only need a password manager if you want to share your passwords between your windows + iPhone.
I have different passwords for different apps, and a extra password for apps that I will most likely to forget in like 2 days. The thing is, I’m 14 and I don’t have any sensitive data that could be leaked. Maybe I’m too over protective
ohhhh i thought it just meant that i was using the same password too often! thanks for the clarity
MFA is also your second line of defence against data breaches. MFA (Multi Factor Authetication)
Useful, thank you.
I honestly haven’t seen this message before on my iPhone and I’ve had mine for almost a year. I really hope I don’t see that message ever.
haha
I’ve gotten them recently
All my passwords are the same
😰
ur very lucky then :,(
Oh wow, I've experience this problem on my iPad till I had too email a company that I'd subscribe to thinking their was the problem, not realized this was a new feature from apple.
I got 3 alerts on my passwords of a data leak. 2 were Roblox accounts, and another was a Genyo account (Genyo is basically homework but online) all are changed and I’m now happy
Amazing that this is provided free of charge
it happened to me on google but not apple, which clears things up a lot. i'm assuming it's the same for google? like my gmail. very helpful!
This feature is also available in browsers in windows PC, I'm not sure about android

Can you do why the iMac 2021 dosen’t have a full screen?
I think the dialog on the phone explains it pretty well but I know you need to make a video so there you go.
Sherlock, he explained how data leaks happen lol
whats the background music? its amazing
I do not wish to use iCloud on my phone or tablet. Yet I keep getting iCloud prompts and status reports and back up warnings. What should I do ?
One time, my friend fell for a scam, then there iPhone said “Your Phone Has 47 Viruses”. I broke down laughing
This would have been more used if they showed the user where the data was leaked
a BIT late to this but I don't think they can get that data from the hackers they buy the lists off of
Hi dear Apple Explained a few days ago without no reason suddenly my mobile was starting vibrate. So because of that I turn off mobile. Can you explain why this happens? Or is this happens with you also?

Funny about how this was made soon after the release of FNAF: Security Breach! Nice video btw!
Thanks for the info!
I already new the answer but I wanted to hear him explain it
The information that you receive on Apple devices is about a “data leak”. The narrator talks about a data leak, and how it happens. Yet, the video shows a message from Apple about a “data breach”. A data breach is much more serious, and means that you are at real risk of having someone steal your information. There is a difference between data leak and data breach, and the narrator should not mix the two.
that's why i've resorted to good ol' pen and paper. not updating my saved passwords any more... if i don't remember it, i'll check myself
I have never ever encountered this and I've been using Apple devices since 2017
This only happens to me when I access my router settings.
Well i had that feature for ages XD on Android lol. But seriously though it's good to have it on every device.
I remember when I got one of those notifications seeing my Bitmoji password was leaked and I was literally like so scared
Can you please explain why Voice messages disappear after 2min in messages
Thank you so much, I was panicking, I don’t use the password much so I am not worrying about changing password yet.
This is very helpful information 👏👏
did anything happen so far?
hey, why can I not check battery health on my iPad air 2?
Any ideas?
I have never gotten this Notification. Am I just safe or do I need to change something in settings?
Thanks for the informative video!
Too bad it's useless to me because I'm an android user!
My best guess is that the phone knows you have used the password more than once and they want to scare you in to changing it
Makes sense

No.
Weirdo conspiracy theorist.

I thought my passwords were encrypted and not even the OS should know it, it only knows the encrypted hash??
Hey, Greg. Which iPhone is featured in this video?

You should do a video on why the iPhone Brightness 🔆 goes up when you pull down control center
Im pretty sure it’s just in case ur brightness is too low so if ur in a bright area you can see it
or make a video about the brightness going down if it's all the way up for too long,
i'm assuming it's for protecting the screen from burn in since it's an OLED screen though.
So do I need to change or not? Please let me know asap?
It doesn’t matter since I use 2FA for all my accounts
