Why Apple Takes Privacy Seriously

  • Apple has been talking about privacy a lot lately. Releasing a UA-cam video on the topic, using it as a selling point in the most recent Apple Event, and even putting up billboards about privacy on iPhone. This is in contrast to companies like Google, Facebook, and Amazon, who rarely bring attention to their privacy policies. The basis of Apple’s position on privacy, is that they’re trying to do right by their customers. Not necessarily out of the good of their own hearts, but because that’s how they increase the lifetime value of every user and make as much revenue as possible, which comes from hardware sales. And one of Apple’s strongest selling points is privacy. So they talk about it a lot in order to distinguish themselves from the competition like Google, who is known for collecting and selling as much of their user’s data as possible.

The only thing about Apple's respect for privacy is that they don't let others use their users' data. They need it for themselves(including their contractors and their partners). It doesn't mean that your data isnt collected. Your data is being collected and used by Apple. They say that themselves in their privacy policies. Their privacy policy is so cunningly crafted that you won't realise the ambiguity in one reading. But read it again, you'll see a lot of careful wordings that provide a lot of loopholes they can exploit. And they do too.
I'm not an anti apple or pro android guy or something, just pointing out the fact.

Thats right - Google doesnt sell your data like Facebook does it instead takes in ad requests from third Parties and distributes the ads to the users based on the knowledge they have about you - but the data doesnt leave Googles Servers - and why should it - you are much more powerful and valuable for your customers when you have something they dont have - I've never understood why Facebook is really selling the actual Data - they make themselves redundant by every piece of knowledge they give away - Google always will be the one in power as their customers get nothing of their knowledge ;)
If theres anything to really be afraid of when it comes to Google its rather just how much THEY know about everyone and what they will so with that information 😁

    •  3 роки тому +9

This is right. Google actually almost never sells your plain user data to any other company. They just use your data to build an anonymous profile from you and make all ads you see on the web that are provided by google for any website be actuall relevant to you and not just random ass shampoo or dog's food ads. Or apps recomendations on the play store or videos on youtube, or interesting locations for you on google maps etc. What Google sells to third parties is ACCESS to this anonymous profile, not the data itself. Google sells you the ability to target users on their platform. Google makes money from ads, and they sell companies access to the tools and targets for their ads, not the data. RAID Shadow Ls game doesn't know you like games. They just asked and paid Google to show their ad to anonymous user PROFILES (not people) that Google knows usually search for gaming content.
This is a VERY big difference. And you know what, Apple does exactly this. Google could very well also do marketing stunts like Apple does. Oh wait, they do, but no one cares, because it seems that this world (USA mostly lol) only see and hear about Apple stuff and not about Google or Samsung. Google is also trying to destroy Facebook's predatory user collection on Android for years now, and Facebook is also really mad at Google for this.
But at the end of the day, none of them not even Apple really actually cares for your privacy, as they collect as much data as Google from your iPhone even without your consent, and also sell it to third parties. It's all in their terms of service, just buried deep into them. In Apple's terms of service, their consideration for what is "personal data" is very different from what we expect. And they do this on purpose, they market that they don't collect or sell your personal data, but that "personal data" is now what you are thinking it is...
Go watch "The Hated One" videos here on youtube about this subject.

You are right by trusting Apple more than Facebook, but Apple is not better than Google. Apple sadly don't genuinely care about our privacy. No company does. Our data is worth more than pure gold, and Apple can't run away from it. Google also is actively for years forcing Facebook to back down on their predatory data collection and every Android release blocks even more app's access to users data without user's consent. The newly announced Android 12 is focused on privacy. Google lives from selling ads, but they actually anonimize everything and don't sell it directly to other companies. Apple is EXACTLY the same, but it's buried into their terms of service, very hard to find. Google also does a lot of ads about this and talks a lot about privacy, but no one cares, everyone just pays attention to Apple and Apple is gladly using this opportunity for their own benefit. In Apple's terms of service, their consideration for what is "personal data" is very different from what we expect. And they do this on purpose, they market that they don't collect or sell your personal data, but that "personal data" is now what you are thinking it is...
Go watch "The Hated One" youtube channel videos on this subject, like the "Apple is terrible for your privacy" video. Apple will just keep doing this and milk this privacy dream while it gives them good marketing and lures people into buying and buring themselves into the ecosystem.

Apple doesn’t care about user privacy, least not in a way many want it to. You are only as good to Apple so long you keep buying their hardware and services but ultimately Apple cares about its investors. If they did care about us, consumers, they would have had the entire phone doing end-to-end encryption for all of data - they don’t. Also this photo scanning function is just a precedent for worse things to come. They are giving themselves the right to scan photos and most likely far more than just photos on OUR OWN devices that we purchased for OUR OWN money. It feels more and more that Apple hardware belongs to Apple and not its owners. Future is bleak.

I understand companies using your data to push you adds catered to your online habits. But when they actually sell your data to literally anybody that would buy it, for whatever reason, its worrying.
One example is adding a new phone number to WhatsApp (which is Facebook owned), and before you know it you get phone calls from literal scammers.

And the metadata iMessage uses is kind of required for it to function the way it does…
The only information Apple really has is who you have contacted but not what was said, which id way rather have over them being able to read my messages.
So the entire premise of your comment is a distraction from the fact that they can’t see my messages to begin with, which was my entire point.
