I've got a 2009 Lr3 HSE 4.4L V8 with about 150,000 miles and it's still running like a top. I've had to replace lower control arms, alternator, and a water pump. The original air ride still works but with every day I wonder if is gonna fail or not. Not looking forward too that day lol. I know I should get rid of her but it's such a love hate relationship. I know I'm flirting with danger but i love the truck.
I have a 2002 Range Rover which I bought 12 years ago with 230,000 km on the clock for 13,000 euros. Since then: new gearbox, front air suspension, turbo, fuel pump, wiper motor, handbrake assembly, discs all round, brake pipe, full anti rust treatment, total cost approx 17,000 Euros. Plus some bodywork. Who told you the BMW 3.0 TD6 wasn’t a good engine? It’s fine. Yes the newer 3.6 and 4.4 have more power but for a normal driver like me it’s fine. I make a 1200 mile trip across Europe twice a year and it cruises comfortably at 80-90 mph all the way. Yes, the gearbox is not the best but too many people believe Land Rover when they say it’s sealed for life. Nothing is sealed for life. Change the gearbox oil at least every 40,000 miles. Anyway it’s 3 years since you posted this so I’m curious to know, how did it work out?
The TD6 engine in these cars is indeed the most reliable and with regular maintenance it can last forever, however for a heavy car like this its simply not powerful enough. Of course for calm cruising its fine but for overtaking not so much. Yes with regular oil changes you can prolong the lifetime of the gearbox. I sold it a long time ago, the new owner replaced the gearbox and he continued to use the car.
Then that’s on you, for the past 2 years I’ve been driving the Sport with the 5.0 supercharged (the least reliable out of all the engines allegedly) and have had 0 problems.
@@1240Dax I salute you sir, but I think you're wrong on the L322 2003-2006 lot. My local Land Rover specialist rolled his eyes when I bought it and said that he had no end of nightmares from all aspects of the car. But hey ho, pleased you had 0.
Wow, interior oddly is quite nostalgic for me, having driven many e46, e39, e53. I guess the engine is horribly slow in this big car, but atleast the BMW 3.0d from that era is very reliable when maintained properly. One German guy managed to drive over million kms with an e39 530d, original engine and gearbox. End of life came as a result of crash, not engine or other techincal failure :)
Mechanic here. I work in a euro car auto shop in Australia. These things are the worst of the worst other than Volkswagen. I have no idea how the fuck that thing is still alive
I had a 2007 range rover 3.6 tdv8 with 220000 miles on it, Drove like brand new and was perfectly reliable, Had 2 toyota Landcruisers, Both fell apart with rust.

well, if you are aware of the things which can fail and if you are willing to loose some money when they fail, then there is no reason not to buy one 😃 it really is a completely different experience driving this thing even if its this old + life is short so why not to try it even if it ends up being a disaster
If the air suspension is like in the series before it (p38) the compressor doesn't run while the car is off as a draws abit of power and it does store compressed air but after a few adjustments it takes time time refill the reservoir.

To be honest I have seen some newer range rovers with less millages on them that were in a lot worse shape then this. But this should be interesting to follow, so subscribed 👍

Expensive , considering it's a dog. I paid less than that for a 4.4V8 with a recon gearbox and no problems apart from a bit of wheel arch rust, even has a digital TV conversion. It is missing the original phone... If that's the cheapest one for sale, come to the UK, that car would struggle to sell for 1500 Euro
Brian Green LHD cars are always better at resales in Europe as it a bigger market hence retain a higher value ... RHD Vehicle’s are less attractive for Europe unless you are happy to be on the wrong side and want a bargain Priced vehicle. RHD makes tolls and drive thru’s annoying
Tired air compressor is your suspension problem. You can by a cheap (Chinese) replacement these days that is just as good or better than the Land rover part.
Have this car with same engine and gearbox. Car has more than 420k kilometrs but drives with no problems. Common issues were electronics and thats it. But still amazing car!

As I recall the seats are really comfortable to travel in Hold & Repair? Thinking if you aren't too ocd about everything being perfect and working, I think it would make a good partially road runner (all essential bits work and it's safe). Think the RR killer for most people is that each breakdown is repaired at the dealer and there are so many breakdowns the cumulative costs kill the car. Doing it yourself possibly lends itself to buying another donor car and combining them, but then I think you would be under the car and not in front of the camera. If you can repair yourself and source parts close to trade price it might be viable, plus informative for us. You seem spoilt for choice with your creative resourceful nature, there are many other things you could also do to keep us watching. Await your future plans with interest.

The saving grace of that car is the diesel engine. However if it is revealed at a later time that Range Rover manipulated their emission's software like Volkswagen did, then that detracts from the value of the diesel engine in this car. The thing about old cars like this is, you have to buy one that you like: that is your favorite color and has the features you want. Then you won't mind all the trouble fixing it. This car, however, is a wing-win situation because if someone doesn't fall in love with it and give it some Tender Loving Care = TLC, then it is worth more money by parting it out, thousands more! Every cloud has a silver lining!
Mars J I believe at the time this vehicle was built the emissions regulations were sufficiently lenient that manufacturers could easily achieve compliance without doing anything crazy. I have a 2003 diesel that doesn’t even have a DPF, let alone an SCR system.

For this price you can invest a little bit more in the technical parts like motor and gearbox/suspension and drive the car 3-4 years. But I don’t think you need to repair something in ex/interior.The car already started to rust. Btw GTA San Andreas sounds are funny 😆
there is actually more than 1 reason: -I always wanted a range rover especially this generation, so I was searching for one, but since I don't have much money to just throw away for a car like this - I was waiting for the cheapest one which will still work -of course because the mileage of this thing is surprisingly high I also wanted to make videos about it, since I have never seen a range rover with this engine/gearbox combination which would work for this long -lastly, the roads where I live are getting worse by the year and I need to use the car on dirt roads as well, so I was thinking of buying a cheap but comfortable car with good ground clearance as well + life is short so why not to try it even if it ends up being a disaster
Jesus for that many miles the interior is in surprisingly good condition... But 2800$ yikes I bought a loaded disco2 4.6 left hand here in the US with only 127k miles for 1600$

for the tailgate lights you can make a very small hole with a drill and it will drain

The M57D30 from the early 2000s is a very reliable engine.

Here in California you can find an ok running 6/10 Range Rover, but 100% rust free for around $4000 dollars.

This has been in an accident previously. Rear lights don’t fit or seal properly and the rust on the tailgate is also a tail tail sign

I'm not working for Terraclean but I would do a Terraclean cleaning on gearbox, engine, cooling system, air intake. I'm about to do it on my car... It's not that old but still...

For this price you can invest a little bit more in the technical parts like motor and gearbox/suspension and drive the car 3-4 years. But I don’t think you need to repair something in ex/interior.The car already started to rust.

If this unreliability is a deliberate design feature on Land Rovers/Range Rovers, I say it’s not so much a design feature as it is an inconvenience.

there is actually more than 1 reason:
-I always wanted a range rover especially this generation, so I was searching for one, but since I don't have much money to just throw away for a car like this - I was waiting for the cheapest one which will still work
-of course because the mileage of this thing is surprisingly high I also wanted to make videos about it, since I have never seen a range rover with this engine/gearbox combination which would work for this long
-lastly, the roads where I live are getting worse by the year and I need to use the car on dirt roads as well, so I was thinking of buying a cheap but comfortable car with good ground clearance as well
+ life is short so why not to try it even if it ends up being a disaster

Jesus for that many miles the interior is in surprisingly good condition... But 2800$ yikes I bought a loaded disco2 4.6 left hand here in the US with only 127k miles for 1600$

Brilliant video. Very funny. I have seen way better LHD Range Rovers for sale in the UK for about the same money. Your car would be way beyond economic repair in the UK.
