- Chrome does look nice on some vehicles, however when you’re working with a car that is nearly all blacked out, the chrome window trim can be annoying. In this video, you’ll be able to see how I change my window trim from chrome, to black using plastidip.
If you guys have any questions, post em below and i’ll be happy to help :)

PreDip Spray - www.dipyourcar...
I would neverrrrrr put Paint thinner
Also, a useful tool I've found is WD-40 for removing plasti dip. If you're ever too nervous to use paint thinner, a spray of WD-40 on a microfiber towel and a quick rub does the job in seconds.
The overspray comes off just with the microfiber cloth, never use paint thinner on your paint
+Joseph Louis (Jrod) It can be much more difficult than that. I find that using paint thinner works great. Just dry off any excess and you're safe.
+Sick Dips I would suggest 3M Adhesive Remover. I don't like the idea of paint thinner, but I get where you're coming from. I found that just spraying the Adhesive Remover on a microfiber towel does the same thing and it's safe for your paint.
Maybe alcohol on the trim first.
Why not some quick Detailer spray
@jay Because it turns blotchy over time
Clay bar would work as well as paint thinner for removing overspray, less sketch factor
Nathan Comstock
clay bars don't really work on a lot of Plasti Dip
Black trim on a black car looks so clean. Great work and good explanations.
Out of all of the vids I’ve watched you’re the first to mask off the door jambs.
automotive goo gone is best for over spray and is paint finish safe
This is going to sound weird but I used black electrical tape on my chrome trim. Its looks perfect and does not peel off. Been on my car for 3 years now and seen different weathers.
+IlmWolf Ahah thats awesome!! Never thought of something like that
+Sick Dips
Can you pls tell me what car is that i like it so much!
The car he plasti dips here is a 8th gen Honda Accord Coupe Manual. I love mine, i got the (better) V6 version ;)
ArsenaL by far the most cever thing ive heard.
I tried electrical tape and found it did peel up on me but it's not dangerous to apply to your molding so give it a shot!
No way paint thinner?????!!!!
A series of before and after comparison shots at the end would really help sell the dip job I think, just my 2p...
lol never use paint thinner on car. terrible idea, id use wd40 if anything. Better idea is to just not overspray and tape everything up takes an extra 5 mins.
He never mentioned that once you use thinner, you need to rewax that area.
Mark Halvorsen goo gone worked best for me
should of just used a heavy claybar
Mark Halvorsen right smh should smack the shit out of this nigga with a plastidip can
What I was thinking haha
Did you just put paint thinner on your car lol
Great video man, I'll be doing this to my trim very soon and your video was very easy to follow and understand. Appreciate you making this video.
I've got a 2012 chevy colorado that I put fender flares on. Unfortunately they got sun bleached. I plasti dipped them and my front bumper.. Man they look amazing now.
WD40 on microfiber towel if needed for overspray. Please do not use paint thinner.
This is a good tip for removing plastidip if you sprayed it too thin, and it won't peel in a sheet, too.
great video. first try the plasti dip peeled off the chrome surface as well. is the surface not clean enough? it doesnt peel at the edges properly. thanks again
Be sure to remind your watchers that after you use thinner to remove overspray, they need to rewax that area.
This is the best video I've seen on PlastiDip
I have always used Denatured Alcohol and found it to work great!
A simple microfiber cloth will get rid of that Xtra dip. If you don't like your paint job then by all means feel free to use paint thinner.
It’s the prep work that keeps postponing me from doing This. Lol
wwhy not put plastic over side mirror
Hey dude, I did this. Over time I had noticed it peeling off a bit. I know I put it on right. I bought the black out liner tape instead. I'm a put it on this weekend. I'm a peel the plasti dip off. It looks ok and decent but I'm going with the tape. I wouldn't dip your lining windows. Get the tape. I got mine from Auto Zone. $13. Great video though. That's how I did it.
What kind of tape or wrap you used for window trim?
Hay David. It's called black out trimmers tape. When you put it on you would need a squeegee card like object to press down and tuck underneath the lining so that you can no where to cut with a blade. I used a box cutter knife. But, make sure you put a lining of painter's tape or duct tape down over the tape you are using overlapping it so you dont scratch your paint. I do think it's better. See, I wash my car every week and it peels. So, to me it's the best alternative. Still like this video. But, just google it and you a see.
Alright brotha, thanks for your advice. 🙏
Great clip, you made it look so easy. I really like how you explained the steps so to a viewer like me to understand. Aloha!
Sick video~! Very clear instructions.
ahhhh, that spray pattern! it looks far better when you do long strokes, tilt the can so maximise can usage. wait 30 mins between coats, not 15. Do 4 coats, wait overnight, repeat with glossifier 3 X coats. wait overnight between colour and gloss.
Can I spray it on that middle trim in between the two windows? Mine is cracking real bad
I’m confused on when peeling off how the excess you didn’t tape peels off but not on the silver. Did you go over with a razor 1st? Thank you for the video.
Are you spraying the thin rubber seal at the bottom of the window or did you completely mask it off? I only see you slide a piece of tape behind. In general, if something to be sprayed has a seal behind it or under it do you spray over the the rubber seal then peel it?
The proper way is to make the first coat a tack coat. Then the 2nd coat would be a heavier wet coat. You also don't need anything other than a MF towel to take off the over spray. And to use paint thinner on your paint, well as a detailer, I'll tell you, thats just not something you put on your paint..PERIOD. Use mineral spirits, NOT paint thinner.
Thanks for instructing on how to use a microfiber cloth.
Sweet....you saved me some money 💰 🤑 thx bro✌🏻😎
Uses microfiber so it’s safe for car....uses paint thinner 🤔🤔🤦♂️🤦♂️
how easy is this for a beginner
So...... I did this long time ago... instant results were great. 1 year later... results not good. If your car will be parked outside, black plastidip will fade in no time and peel off. Use few coats of the plastidip glossifier/fade buster along with the black then it may last. Vinyl wrapping is more tedious but the better way to go.
well yeah its only like 10 bucks for the black + glossifier if it gets ruined just do it again
On removing the dip while wet what if you use glossifier, do you treat it as a final coat of dip and then remove the tape while its wet ??? Also I find that dip peels off the rubber trim quite well leaving a nice clean edge. Do you also??
this was awesome! so easy to follow. I will be doing this asap
PAINT THINNER!!!???!? Bro, everything you said up until that point was solid! NEVER put paint thinner on your cars paint unless you dont want it there anymore. A simple dap of mothers carnuba cleaner wax will remove the dip w/o a problem...or you could just cover the whole car. Plastic drop clothes are cheap at home depot.
This might be a stupid question but if the plastidip peela right off the paint, what is the point of being overcareful with the tape and plastic sheet?
Swear this kid does the most in videos
why black gloss car with black matte trims ?
Looks much better!
Did you peel the dip from the rubber strip that separates the window trim and the car?
Very clear .....and fine!
GOt me excited!!! as soon as the vid started, I thought was an F13 BMW. WOUld have been perfect tutorial for me :D But still great! Just tape everything off extensively to avoid overspray. Thinner will burn your paint :o
Do you think this would look good with glossifier on top?
Does glossifier peel the same way?
Can you put dipcoat onto glossifier?
I use Glossifier on my car on all NON black parts because its obsidioum black color and it's glossy. After you put 5 layers of Black put 2 of glossy and its incredible... Removing is same way absolutely, because glossy is top layer and remove happens due to bottom black layers. This morning I failed my last trim parts and remove Plasti dip there for 5 minutes without issue with 2 layers of glossifier above. Now need to redo for better result.
Amazing young man
That first coat looked way thicker than 50% transparency and you sprayed from so close. Still turned out great though! How long do you expect this to look as it does when it is first done?
+goodshoes07 I can easily expect this finish to last me years if its not abused
pre dip spray is the biggest rip off ever
+Danny Finnamore I was thinking that. I'm doing my trims this evening after work and surely any old cleaning spray will do!
+goodshoes07 it's rebottled windex
+Danny Finnamore Pretty close but not quite. Its more of an Isopropyl Alcohol/ Cleaning Agent.
I use denatured alcohol works perfect on chrome before plasti dip
Black chrome wrap looks much better!
Hello, sir !
Need advice. I Plasti dip whole car basically ( chrome parts , grill, lights etc. ) and as final part I have to plasti dip Window trim chrome but only down part like 2 pieces on both door. Upper trim went very good because there are good gaps and i can pill of plasti dip which is not need after finish. Unfortunately downside trims have no gap between chrome part and rubber seal so when i finish with my 5th layer + glossyfier layer and try to remove mask it starting to remove plasti dip on chrome parts also... can you advice me how you did it ? I replay your video multiple times and I did the same masking as you basically.
Sexy car! And sadly but with chrome looked better :)
BJ BJ
adding paint thinner to perfectly fine paint and on a black car to just make it easier to get rid of plasti dip wow. Just buff with a towel, wd40 works too, goo gone, and a claybar and detailer spray. Wow
I will receive an old bmw car, it's also annoying for to see the inox flashing windows trim, i want to put it to black as you did. Thanks for the tutorial. Just one question, it's possible to paint with a normal spray? what is the advantage of plasidip? Does it last longer than painting?
I actually liked the chrome trim on your car. What kind of car is it? Looks great
accord coupe
+La MotorWorks fuck i have this car, should i go back to chrome trim? i just wen matte
Man you have a lots of time. I wish i could do all that.
Not your first rodeo hey lad?
Thanks for giving me the courage to go throw a spray paint can at my $150,000 car.
LESSGOOOOOOO
When you peel the plastic dip off it won't peel off the trim?
No, It’s just coating overtop
Nice job! I want to do the chrome on my car....its really thin strips though. A little patience I guess. Lol. Plastidip cans have been sitting in the shop a few months now
Lee Brooker Thanks!! :) After you're done i'd love to see some pics!!
Clay bar worked well for me on over spray!
I have heavy rubber seals, i drive a '14 QX60. I have plasti-dipped the chrome before but where I tried to remove the plasti-dip from the rubber seal i lifted the dip off the chrome trim. should i mask up closer to the chrome trim over the seal?
Josh Rodriguez I would mask up right up to the chrome, and then after I sprayed the last coat of plastidip, peel up the paint so that you have a nice clean break and you won't have to worry about it peeling.
milanmastracci I see why you remove your mirrors. lmao mine all looks smooth until i get to that area and cant get close enough. I masked to the chrome but i dont know if the heat (I live in Texas) makes the dip dry faster or what but i cant seem to avoid peeling up the edges. Also got any tips on using Glossifier?
Yeah removing the mirrors make life so much easier.
As for the glossifier, make sure you do wet coats when you're spraying. It makes the final finish very glossy. If you don't apply it wet, it won't look shiny.
I preciate you giving your 2 pennies. It amazes me at how smooth your coats lay. keep up the vids!
Your back finally
Marcus Ball Got some more on the way too :)
What’s wrong with his back?!?
Your car is so nice man !
paint thinner on ur nice shiny car paint??.....really lol
+Steven Adams Yeah..
Damn that looks good!
Any reason not to put tape in-between the door and body? So that the two don't stick together. Then you wouldn't need to open the door before its dry.
how many hours did you let that dry ?
great vid. personally i would of thrown a few old bed sheets over the rest of the car so as not to get any over spray. only needs a little breeze.
Hi there how many cans you needed to do the trim on both sides and whats the masking tape called as we in uk that i know is paper tapes also the other tape with the plastic on ? Also do you have any videos of doing the mirrors in gloss black?
Did you open your door so they wouldnt stick after every coat?

How would plasti dip dry in a paint shop with heating n everything? Would it dry too fast or crack up or anything?
Banana The Annoying If you have a paint booth and have the equipment available to you, by all means go ahead and use it. The only time the plastidip reacts negatively is when you go from warm ambient temperature to cold.
Sick Dips and the spray guns in a booth would work the same without problem, right?
As long as you use an appropriate tip, yes. You'll need something a bit larger because the consistency of plastidip is thicker than that of regular paint. Go with a 1.6 or a 1.8 mm tip.
Sick Dips I've actually never been inside a paintshop, but i have a friend that owns a body shop and I was asking him about plastidip. he said they had customer who came to him, but he's like there's no point buying all the equipment if they're just going to do a 50 dollar job here and there.
There isn't that much extra equipment. If you already have everything to paint a car with regular paint, you'll only need an extra needle for your paint gun to get everything done.
Nice ricer red trim inside.
Hey do you know how to paint the inside of headlights? If you do can you do a video on it?
AnDre Like the chrome housing? Painting it black?
Use a heat gun to separate the glue to take apart the headlight, then paint the housing! :) then reverse the steps to get it back together :)
good job man. looks awesome
Mien did not peel well, I used rustoleum brand. I'll have to try plasti dip brand
Try Hyperdip. A little more expensive but it trims really nice and no need to use any kind of gloss. Good luck!
That peeled really good for only 3 coats.
+Billy Kordecki Hence the thick coats of plastidip. When you spray it wet, more product goes down, and you get a perfectly smooth final finish.
Didn't he have the vehicle covered so where the over spray come from?
good job well done young man
great video! thanks for posting this.
Got any idea on how long this last? Would love to do this to my silver 2011 Cadillac coupe. Not a car guy but even I know not to use paint thinner.
Hey man i got the same Honda Accord that you have. but mine are all different compare to you ??
Why did he tape the back and front differently
hey u should do a video of u dipping a car and adding your pearls to the pds
+Ivan Mendoza ua-cam.com/video/1vhdI4ua4k0/v-deo.html
I'm thinking of plasti dipping my chrome parts black on my silver clk 430
you never go full coverage on your first coat.
Not true. When using traditional spray paint- yes.
But plastidip is a different game entirely.
Not thinner dude..use hard wax or thin compound..its fresh so itll come off easy.
Can you send me a link to the paint ?
You look like a Fonzi Jr lol
Sounds like him too!
Looks, mannerism, body type, is like a young fonzi with different color hair.
Is it okay to get plasti dip on window tint?
Dude! Thanks for the video! I was wondering what color of plastidip would go nice with pearl red car. Thanks in advance!
+ACE55ism Like for wheels? Or accents? Gunmetal grey, black, maybe even white would look good :)
Question, how do I removed this later on...if I don't want it anymore
Peel it off
really nicely presented.
+hikkmits Thanks :)
Question! The blue tape with the white plastic attached; what's that called? It's absolutely PERFECT for masking off large areas, something I've been doing with painter's tape and garbage bags for too long.
+Westley Strand Its called Tape and Drape
looks good
Just use index cards and
Shove em in the gaps
How many cans would I need to do the window trims on my car altogether
I would buy 6 just to be safe. In theory 4 is all you need (2 for each side) but having the extra can for each side is a nice safety net
Hi, I tried Plasti dip the chrome on my 98 E38 740iL and when I tried to peel away tape, some of the dip came off the chrome....thank you for enlightening on opening the door before drying! After all dipping on Windows n door side moldings, how long should the wait be before removal ? Thanks , Annemarie C.
+anne marie conrod I would wait about an hour so it is dry and you won't ruin the finish, but it is still soft to work with.
great video man, I want to do the same thing on my Accord!
I also want to dip my rims but I just dont know if that will work out Lol
I dipped the wheels on my gray 98 accord and it looks so much better. I also dipped the honda and accord and v6 logos and it looks a lot better than it did before. I'm going to be doing the chrome around the windows like he did next, I hope it turns out good.
+HighFructoseFun It will :) I think it looks alot better than the chrome
+Sick Dips that's what I'm hoping haha I'm just waiting for it to get warmer outside to do it
Pre dip spray? You mean Windex right!!!
guys trust me that was 100% not paint thinner in that bottle. Ive accidentally touched my paint with a rag with some on it and it went to work instantly. 5 seconds later I was down to the metal panel. PLEASE NO NOT EVER, I MEAN EVER PUT THINNER ON YOUR PAINT
