I followed this procedure (after years of light coat recommendation videos) and I can honestly say I'm VERY impressed with the results on my 06 eclipse front bumper. Thanks sick dips! I learned something new watching this vid. Side note: I did my bumper the same last year with light coats and took it off after a couple months because I wasn't fully satisfied. QUICK TIP: spray the edges of the tape a couple minutes (maybe 1) before removing the tape, makes for some crispy lines. Careful with the dust. Good video, well documented. Thanks again for the help
Great video dude. You really expanded on the spraying "wet" concept. I was definitely spraying too lightly, but when it comes out of the sprayer, it's "wet" so I didn't really think there was a difference. Someone just saying "you have to put down wet coats" doesn't really mean anything to a noob like myself since it's already a wet product! Thanks for breaking it down!!
great vid, I've notice just before I watch this video of someone doing their wing and I notice the result was rough. that was the first thing you addressed in this video.
I was getting some bumps in mine with dusting method, switched to wet like this video, and a hood scoop I was playing with came out smooth as silk... Great tip.
great stuff, Milan thanks.....one question.....if I already have texture in my PlastiDip wheels, can I continue with wet coats to get a smooth finish, or do I need to peel off all the old stuff and start from scratch?
I really appreciate the time and effort you put into your videos. Have you already gone over tip size or pressure? What about thinning plasti dip? To thin or not to thin? And thin with what?
Been meaning to plasti dip the bottom half of my passat wagon. Been looking at how to for months, but this video has given me alot more guidance, other vids I've seen show lines and marks everywhere. I'll probably do a light coat first as I'm working on vertical panels, and then go wet coats from there. Thanks for the informative vid.
gotta say, this worked great in reverse too... when I was trying to create a rubber snow flock ** something I could peel vs deal with scrubbing. For the "faux plasti flock" I just stuck it in the fridge. Worked GREAT and peeled so much easier than cleaning flock.
LOVE the video!!!!! Other videos I’ve watched gives just the opposite advice put it on REALLY lightly in 20 coats! Yours looked WAYYYYY nicer! I’m gonna subscribe to your channel so I’m sorry if you’ve already did a video on this but have you used their “Glossifier”? I wanna paint my car but I don’t really want it to be a matte finish.
I totally didn't go wet enough and started with two very tacky layers. So after glossifyer I have a textured finish that isn't what I like. Now I know what went wrong, thanks man!
Sir, thank you so much for this video!!! I've been looking for months to see if it is absolutely necessary to by their (DYC's) little compressor. So glad you proved that the compressor I already have can be used!!! Thank you!! What's the best pressure setting to use???
So if I already put a few coats and it's slightly textured can I just finish with a wet coat. Or do I need to peel off and start over. I currently have 5 coats on .
Great video. The wet coats with 50% overlap makes the texture look smooth. I put mine in warm water and the bottom of the can started bulging out. Maybe it was a little to warm. Lol.
Great vid bro, what size of tip do you use in the hvlp gun???? I don’t mean to be rude by all means but I need to know ASAP since the project I have time is a factor. Thank you
I'm planning on dipping a plastic bumper. Do you think I need to use the plastidip primer? I also plan on using the glossifier as the last step. How many coats of glossifier are recommended? Thank you.
I think its all depend on the surface you spary. If you spraying on flat surface of course this technique is better. But if you spray on rim with many edges and corners then thick coat will build up runs and drip on that part.
Doing a very thing rear spoiler lip tomorrow.. should I do heavy coat first? A bunch of other videos say light coat first. But these result do look good
you sir are a smart ass man😂 and hey I'm about to start the new UA-cam channel because of you👌🏻 next week hopefully, its going to be on a customers 2010 mustang and it'll be on plasti dip. Thanks for the inspiration and keep up the great up work and great tips!
thanks for this video. genius...absolutely genius. has DYC seen this? because they DEFINITELY tell you to start with that thin layer at the beginning, which is wack. Also, one other question: do you think it's necessary to use their prep solution? I've seen some people use rubbing alcohol instead...thoughts?
cross hatching helps even the coats as well. also, sanding with 6000 grit wet between coats , and tack cloth between coats to remove all dust particles is important.
Thanks for the vid man - had a question though. I found it funny that you recommend basically doing what Fonzie at DYC doesn't recommend...that is going heavy on the first coat? In his instructional vids he recommends doing light coats and building up the layers slowly? Just curious, as your finish seems to come out great with no texture. Do they heavy coats seem to just work better for you?
+NickBen11 I find that you can do it thick from the very first coat and you will not get texture with it. If his way works for you, by all means do that, but this is how I get it to work. :)
Hi, I watched your video and I realized that you use a compressor very similar to mine '' air force commander 4.0hp), I want to connect a professional gun with professional compressor hose to that, as I can do? as you did? What precautions should I take? the compressor will endure? I need your help. Thank you !
+Dip In I only use that 'compressor' to blow water off of cars. I dont use that to paint. I have an actual compressor like this to paint (see the link). The air force commander pushes air, it does not compress it like a compressor to pump up a tire. My compressor is like a much bigger version of this: www.amazon.com/PORTER-CABLE-C2002-Oil-Free-Pancake-Compressor/dp/B000O5RO1Y/ref=sr_1_16?ie=UTF8&qid=1447462172&sr=8-16&keywords=compressor
There is a bit of an art to working with this stuff....as I'm starting to find out 🤣🤣 I did the mirror caps on my car yesterday....deliberated removing the caps first but as at least one of the caps has some broken clips I was concerned if break them getting them off so decided to do them in situ. Masked them off using proper 3M tape and also masked off what I thought would prevent over spray.......needless to say it turned out a bit disastrous. The weather cooled, there was a light breeze and I began to run out of light, I didn't know about warming the cans either so the product went on too thickly and left a mottled finish. Also the fallout from the spray went all over the car so its now covered in over spray and plastidust....apart from where I masked off. I know it will come off but not looking forward to having to do it....might try the WD40 method if it proves too difficult. I am going to warm the can and add 2 or three thick coats on each cap (assuming the remaining can will go the distance) and hopefully will then have a smooth finish. I will then add glossifier to finish it off at some point. So advice to anyone trying this..... If in colder condition/climate warm the cans (102f/38c about right), it doesnt atomise properly for a smooth finish otherwise. Be sure to mask up properly.....the stuff literally gets everywhere particularly if there is any sort of breeze. Again it's not the problem it would be with regular paint but it will save you some cleanup effort afterwards. If you are going to go the rattle can route consider getting a pistol grip for your cans, at least for the final coats. Having to press the nozzle whilst workable isnt comfortable and I dont think contributes to a decent finish. Really and truthfully, I probably shouldn't have cheapskated and just gotten two new caps and had them painted but if I can get a decent final finish and it lasts a few years I'll be happy.
after applying PDS and then the high gloss top coat with the pearls and it is all done, How would it look if just the high gloss was sprayed on top? (not mixed with any pearls) you think it would make it look like actual paint? and on the DYC gun what percentage of paint do you have it on?
+Jesus Borjas It would have a nice high gloss but you will need to build up layers in order to get it to look like automotive paint. I have it about 60%
Hi, have u tried dipping black powder coated wheels straight with plasti dip gold metalizer?? If so, what's the outcome? If not, can u make a video of it? Thanks! Note: wheels don't have plasti dip base coat.
so I was thinking of dipping my emblems, should you still do a light tack coat, or go heavy? I Dont want uneven spots with texture, I've seen it on emblems like that and it looks terrible. I was trying to figure out of getting even coat through the inside and outside angles. Heating up the can downs like a great idea.
+Amrit Bhathal The only time you EVER want to do a tack coat, is if you are working with small surface areas like emblems, mesh grilles, or anything like that. If you do tack coats and dust the plastidip on, you won't get the plastidip to self level. Heating the can is probably the best thing you can do to improve your results because the plastidip atomizes much better that way as the pressure in the can increases
+MrJRR67 You don't need any hardener or anything else. The PlastiDip Spray is already pre-thinned so you just have to load it in your sprayer and then it is good to go
By spraying "wet", do you mean just push harder on the nozzle for the spraycan? Cuz I unfortunately already made the mistake but for future would like to know.,
do you mix anything in your dip before loading your hvlp? 50/50 thinned. or just load it up and shoot. i read you are using a 1.8 tip.. what kinda gun?
+Albert Wesker Because PDS comes ready to spray, you don't need anything else other than the dip, and the spray gun. Load and shoot :) As for the tip, yes it is a 1.8 and i'm using a Devilbiss StartingLine HVLP gun.
Dipyourcar people say that the pds material can not be sprayed thru a hvlp gun with out thinning... do you thin yours out when you use a hvlp instead of the dyc gun?
What if I already got coats that are textured could going over it wet with following coats fix that? I'm used to using regular spray paint which you want to do quick passes
Hey dude, great tips. Thanks! Question. I'm gonna plasti dip the side covers on my bikes radiator. Is this stuff heat proof (ish)? Can it handle being in close proximity to high temperatures? Thanks
Great video! Was messing with some plasti-dip and some emblems, had a rough surface. Your tips address my issues!
Well hello there Jason! Did you ever make a video of you dipping your emblems?
"That's enough talking for now, let's get started."
Immediately starts talking.
+Brandon Darensburg Ahaha I actually died when I read that lol I watched the video too and was like, yeah.. i did that ahah
xD
Brandon Darensburg lmao xDdd xD xD XP CX xD
EXACTLY WTF I WAS THINKING!!! GOD HE TALKS TOO MUCH.... LIKE WE KNOW HOW TO SPRAY
You know only does it to make it to 10min
I followed this procedure (after years of light coat recommendation videos) and I can honestly say I'm VERY impressed with the results on my 06 eclipse front bumper. Thanks sick dips! I spent an entire day looking for advanced Plastidip tips. This video was the BEST BY FAR. REALLY GOOD INFO
I used your method, to paint my bumper, and it turned out perfect. Thanks for your technique! 👍💯💯
The comments here helped me more than the video. Saved me
facts
You are the man. Those people at Plasti Dip should learn from YOU. They are not helpful but yours was very helpful.
Bro wet coat only the 2 or 1 last coats. Wet coat on first one will sometime get you some drips and trouble.
Only for VERTICAL situations. Horizontal has no runs...that defys gravity and newtonian liquid physics lol
great vid, I've notice just before I watch this video of someone doing their wing and I notice the result was rough. that was the first thing you addressed in this video.
I was getting some bumps in mine with dusting method, switched to wet like this video, and a hood scoop I was playing with came out smooth as silk... Great tip.
awesome video i like how you get straight to the point and no tom foolery!
great stuff, Milan thanks.....one question.....if I already have texture in my PlastiDip wheels, can I continue with wet coats to get a smooth finish, or do I need to peel off all the old stuff and start from scratch?
There is probably a point of no return. Worth a replication trial to see.
I really appreciate the time and effort you put into your videos. Have you already gone over tip size or pressure? What about thinning plasti dip?

Well explained and demonstrated. Great job man.
Yo keep it up bro yr young and look and sound very professional keep it up bro that was one of the better videos I've watched
Fantastically helpful video, thank you so much!
What does Fonzie from dipyourcar say to start with a light (not wet) "tack" coat if it introduces texture?
3 years late but it's diffferent - Fonzie is spraying an object that rests vertically
Great video. You are so well spoken.
Thanks bud, you're a good instructor
gotta say, this worked great in reverse too... when I was trying to create a rubber snow flock ** something I could peel vs deal with scrubbing.
For the "faux plasti flock" I just stuck it in the fridge. Worked GREAT and peeled so much easier than cleaning flock.
Thanks..really key....so I can correct a textured dip surface by spraying hot and wet.
I used deep sea blue pearl over texture and it looks rather cool with the texture. I'll do better next time thanks for the tips.
Hi great video thanks. Have you ever attemted clearcote plastidip on a wrists watch bezel to protect it from scratches?
So if I already put a few coats and it's slightly textured can I just finish with a wet coat. Or do I need to peel off and start over. I currently have 5 coats on .
How long do you let it dry in between coats?
Great video. What size is your compressor?
Nice video ! Could you post your HVLP setings?
hello?
Great video. The wet coats with 50% overlap makes the texture look smooth.
I put mine in warm water and the bottom of the can started bulging out. Maybe it was a little to warm. Lol.

I'm planning on dipping a plastic bumper. Do you think I need to use the plastidip primer? I also plan on using the glossifier as the last step. How many coats of glossifier are recommended? Thank you.
When u use the spray gun Do you mix the plastidip with anything alse?
Warming the product is a good idea. I do this with my mascara 🤣 but it would seem you would also use less product? 🤔 Thank you!
thx for the tips about using a htlp gun at what air pressure would you be at for a whole car?👍thx for vids

Thin...not thing
So if we do have texture can we do another coat like this and fix it
Great video and tips…thanks!
Great tips!
Do you buy the sprayable dip for your gun or do you mix it yourself
Watched this after I messed up 😂
wth😂
Same here lol 😂
you make it look easy
Can you use this technique for the roof (rattle can)?
was wondering what kind of compressor are you running and can you do a video set up of your compressor hvlp set up
+Luni “Tha Game Changa” 1200 I'll throw up a video for ya :)
Nice you tha man
Is that a stock tip on the can ?
Great video, very informative.
on the first air gun you used did you thin the plasti dip? if so what did you thin it with?
+Imakevids67 Nope. I bought it prethinned from DYC
What song is your outro ! Also love your video great tips for my upcoming weekend project.
great video 1 question for you what PSI are you running on that HVLP gun?
SWEEET!! WHAT IS THE PERFECT DISTENCE TO SPRAY TEH PLASTI DIP FROM? AND DOSE IT CHANGE IF YOU SPRAY VERTICALLY OR HORIZENTALLY?
you sir are a smart ass man😂 and hey I'm about to start the new UA-cam channel because of you👌🏻 next week hopefully, its going to be on a customers 2010 mustang and it'll be on plasti dip. Thanks for the inspiration and keep up the great up work and great tips!
+Usman Syed (Uzii_mann101) Yeah you are :) I'd love to see the video after you're done 👍
+Sick Dips hahaa thanks man, I'll keep you updated!
Sweet :)
Thanks a lot for the tips. This is what I need to know.
Great info, thank you..great job
thanks for this video. genius...absolutely genius. has DYC seen this? because they DEFINITELY tell you to start with that thin layer at the beginning, which is wack.
Also, one other question: do you think it's necessary to use their prep solution? I've seen some people use rubbing alcohol instead...thoughts?
I have a small 40 gal compressor... should I buy an HLVP gun or the DYC DipSprayer?
+Larry Harris HVLP gun
cross hatching helps even the coats as well. also, sanding with 6000 grit wet between coats , and tack cloth between coats to remove all dust particles is important.
so how many heavy wet coats do u recommend? do you recommend using glossifier?
Excellent tutorial!
So if car is already sprayed over a week now and has some rough texture can i use this technique and go over it all and get a smooth feel to it?
Very helpful and informative. Thank You
+plennon3574 No problem :)
What kind of spray gun do you use?
+Liquid Dipper It is a devillbis starting line with a 1.8mm tip
Thanks for the vid man - had a question though. I found it funny that you recommend basically doing what Fonzie at DYC doesn't recommend...that is going heavy on the first coat? great video man ! does this also apply when spraying emblems ? thank you !
The same approach however you need to be very careful because you are working with very small surface areas
+Sick Dips thank you so no tack coat?
Only when doing emblems *****. Other than that, no tack coat is needed
This wet coat would run on a vertical surface and should have been addressed at the beginning not the end..
Thx bro. Great video
whats a better way to spray? dyc gun or air compressor gun?
what gun are you using? and how much psi are you using at the gun? thanks in advance!
Can you fix a previously sprayed texture with a few wet coats if the job is fairly recent?
There is a bit of an art to working with this stuff....as I'm starting to find out 🤣🤣
I did the mirror caps on my car yesterday....deliberated removing the caps first but as at least one of the caps has some broken clips I was concerned if break them getting them off so decided to do them in situ.

thank you for the very fine tutorials
great job
will use some of your tips
are you using a turbine or the dip your car sprayer?
Good day Bro, hi im Aj from Philippines- Your work is so Good!! I'd like to dip my Mirage Car Roof.. How Many Spray Cans should I Buy??
after applying PDS and then the high gloss top coat with the pearls and it is all done, How would it look if just the high gloss was sprayed on top? (not mixed with any pearls) you think it would make it look like actual paint? and on the DYC gun what percentage of paint do you have it on?
+Jesus Borjas It would have a nice high gloss but you will need to build up layers in order to get it to look like automotive paint. I have it about 60%
I did my car rims, they look matte and grainy.. how do I get them shined and deep black? More color spray or more gloss?
Hi, have u tried dipping black powder coated wheels straight with plasti dip gold metalizer?? If so, what's the outcome? If not, can u make a video of it? Thanks! Note: wheels don't have plasti dip base coat.
Basement31 I probably wouldn't do that... you'd never be able to peel it off without a solid base coat.
video was well done. Thank you.
+Mike Hanratty No problem Mike :)
so I was thinking of dipping my emblems, should you still do a light tack coat, or go heavy? I Dont want uneven spots with texture, I've seen it on emblems like that and it looks terrible. I was trying to figure out of getting even coat through the inside and outside angles. Heating up the can downs like a great idea.
Allways go heavy. I plasti dip my emblems and grill for a year and wet coats and the more coats you pass, better results
Hi, I have to coat a 9mm Silicon hose (about 60cm in lenght). Any tips for me? Would you spray it or immerse the pice to the colour? Tanks in advance!
Sorry if this has been asked before, but what size tip you use on your HVLP for dip? Do you prime before?
+Charles Gill It is a 1.8mm tip. There is nothing to prime
+Sick Dips have you tried using other tip sizes? also What gun are you using I've been looking to upgrade?
No but i've looked into different sizes. 1.8mm seems to be the best for plastidip, thats why I bought the gun
+Sick Dips oh ok have you sprayed just pure top coat with it yet? I figured that would be when you would change tip sizes. great videos by the way.
I would probably go with a 1.5 but it is still fairly thick for a sprayable product. It is still thicker than an OEM clear coat.
Question: how do you spray the gloss.... I’ve heard you don’t let it dry before applying the follow up layers....
How do I get it to have a nice shine? Or do I need to use the glossier once I'm done
Glossifier 1 heavy coat only
For plastic dip grabber blue Straight out of the gallon do I need to put in a Harden Additive to it ?
+MrJRR67 You don't need any hardener or anything else. The PlastiDip Spray is already pre-thinned so you just have to load it in your sprayer and then it is good to go
THANK FOR INFO
Hey bro! I have a question. Some people say vinyl wrapping is better than dipping. What's your take on that?
+Hugo Gamboa Schekaiban Better, in some ways, however it is much more difficult to apply.
How about plsti-dip to cover an auto seat bolster with good foam ? will it last ?
By spraying "wet", do you mean just push harder on the nozzle for the spraycan? Cuz I unfortunately already made the mistake but for future would like to know.,
Does all this technique work for Nite-Shades as well?
do you mix anything in your dip before loading your hvlp? 50/50 thinned. or just load it up and shoot.
i read you are using a 1.8 tip.. what kinda gun?
+Albert Wesker Because PDS comes ready to spray, you don't need anything else other than the dip, and the spray gun. Load and shoot :) As for the tip, yes it is a 1.8 and i'm using a Devilbiss StartingLine HVLP gun.
Dipyourcar people say that the pds material can not be sprayed thru a hvlp gun with out thinning... do you thin yours out when you use a hvlp instead of the dyc gun?
Did you ever find an answer on this? They told me the same thing but I have seen people get great results with an hvlp gun without thinning.
So would I do a light coat first if I'm spraying hubcaps?
What type of filtration system do you have for your compressor and how much psi you getting ?
What if I already got coats that are textured could going over it wet with following coats fix that? I'm used to using regular spray paint which you want to do quick passes
Where do you get you dip supplies from in Canada?
+Bill Plotsky Canadian Tire or Home depot have it for sure
Great Video!
Hey dude, great tips. Thanks! Question. I'm gonna plasti dip the side covers on my bikes radiator. Is this stuff heat proof (ish)? Can it handle being in close proximity to high temperatures? Thanks
Steve Febvre I think it's rated for somewhere around 300° F
