- That install was on a 2005 nissan altima if you didn't know. Also test if it actually charging i didn't have a usb cable on hand to show, so make sure you test that before rapping everything up.

The whole never matters perfection, as long as it is covered completely. Plumbing you always cut a square out of sewer main, and a coupler wraps around it, sealed by a gasket, and 2 metal tension bands.

I got a USB pass through. Connects to my stereo for wired Android Auto and Car Play.
For the test light to actually work, open your hood, connect the negative to the negative terminal on your battery. You may need an extension for it to reqch thats fine. Then take your positive test light wire and touch the wire one at a time to see which one lights up. The one that lights up is your positive. The one that doesnt light up is your negative. In his test all he did was complete the circuit which is why it lit up both times
you certainly do NOT need to go all the way to the battery for a ground. Touch the ground lead from the test light to any metal on the car. The metal is grounded back to the battery.
Would've been nice if they made those USB extensions/adapters just that little bit thinner to pass through those cigarette lighter socket holes.
How do you determine which wire is ground? When you tested each cable, the light came on both times!

Black wire is almost always ground on vehicles
The best way to test is to test from a wire to a known ground such as a metal bracket. When you get the light or a power reading that is power. If you get nothing that is ground.
He tested power to ground and ground to power so it was confusing if you didn’t see it.

Maybe you can help I have an 08 Titan trying to put one of these in and there’s power to the wires but won’t power the plug itself unless I have my test light touching one of the metal pieces inside of it
That’s weird u got a good ground?... or could be the plug itself be defective cause it should power up

They do make usb charger that PLUG IN to the lighter, you know. Get one of those, and you can charge USB, use the lighter, and power other 12v things.
Just buy an adapter.
If you don't smoke, and don't want an adapter this is the way to go.

@@devisissy1 I watch the Scotty Kilmer video on this subject and apparently you have to be careful not to buy a cheap adapter because it can mess things up in regards to your car computer module. Do you have any idea how to figure out which adapters are safe to use. Scotty linked to one but amazon no longer sells it

Because sometimes the cigarette lighter socket wears out, and no longer provides constant contact.
The test light just shows a complete circuit. It lights up either way.
Can this usb ports b used as a media to play songs from the USB? Cos my car don't have the original USB option on the stereo. It's just aux or CD. Wondering if I go through all of this effort and then find out that I can't play the USB songs. Will b mad af

He used an aluminum oxide grinding tip but messed up the plastic. Best to use a step bit (Christmas tree) bit…much easier and more precise.

Now what happens when you need a 12 volt load, you have no source. Should have just installed it on its own fuse. Can make it look stock anywhere.

Yeah there gaudier, the female cigarette adapters. They should be under panel on all vehicles, with USB in dash, and back of the arm rest/cabin
My 08 Tacoma has a separate 12v female and a cig lighter. I’m also going to delete cig lighter. Looks ancient. Lol
Most vehicles have more than 1 12v plug....normally you have one in the front and one in the back.

@@JulesMechanics hey man. i bought one but i had open it to cut the led lights off. i couldn't stand the brightness of the led light. mine was on even with the car turned off. because it is connected where i used to have my cigarette lighter socket. the cigarette lighter socket still provided power even when the car was off. but with this new usb socket, i had to break the led off so i wouldn't have that bright light. it was blinding the shit out of me. thanks to your video i decided to get one too. works great and charges great too. but i had to get rid of that bright led light. plus, it would have probably caused to drain my battery if that led light stayed on all night. i prefer darkness in the interior of my car when i drive at night. i even dim the dash lights when i drive at night to a limit where i can barely read the mph when i drive.

Don't be stupid people just buy a dual USB accessory that goes into the cigar lighter and keeps it because if you blow a tire you might wanna have a small 12V compressor inside your trunk and a cigarette lighter to power it and be able to inflate your spare wheel that will be (obviously because you need it) deflated. ;)
Some cars like my f10 535 got 3 or 4 12v sockets. I wouldnt do this but if u got some sockets to burn and want to fuck it
The stupid thing is putting a 12v compressor into a cigarette lighter. Get one that connects directly to the battery terminals.
What's stupid...is having a adapter sticking out....some people want a clean factory look....not some cheap part.
Plus a huge majority of cars have more than 1 12v outlet. My 07 HHR has 3.

Those things usually don't last too long either.....the push pin will break or stop working. This set-up is the way to go for a clean factory look!
